Finder window no longer shows files info (number of files, size etc.) at bottom

OK, I don't care for those who think this is an "improvement" unless you can share back to me how, at a glance, can I now look at a finder window and know how many files are in it. Sure, when there are 4 files that's easy, but keeping multiple cloned folders and drives a "quick look" is helpful. It's minimal to remove that bar, I get it, but not helpful if it hampers using the interface itself. Any one know how to turn it back on, implement it etc.?
thanks

Thanks Barney... Kinda a "duh" moment. Thanks again for your help - maybe if I'd thought it through more (I was looking in finder preferences, not window options) I would have found it. Taking up Lion on first week out is kinda like being forced on a date you're not so sure about going on and it takes a while to "get comfortable". Appreciate you pointing me in the right direction. Now if we can just ditch these video artifacts.... Cheers.

My email window used to show the list of received on a bottom portion of the window, while showing content of whatever email was selected. I can't find where to make this happen again. Help!

You are posting in the Mac OS X v10.3 & earlier dsicussion. Is that where you want to be? If so, Mail 1.3.11 in Panther 10.3.9 normally shows the list of emails in the top frame and the text of the selected email in the lower. You can change the size of the frames by clicking and dragging the border between them up or down.

  • Finder Window Flashes When Showing Preview Of Multimedia Files.

When Show Icon Preview is selected the finder window flashes(i.e, its gets highlighted and deactivated in a flashing manner) especially when previewing files of movies and pictures(PDF previewing is fine). The problem is there even in cover flow mode while loading the preview, and once the preview(thumnails) of files are done the finder behaves normal. When i checked the problem in another account it's working fine with out any problem in show icon preview mode, clover flow mode.I think the problem is a corrupted preference file.I tried deleting com.apple.finder.plist but its of no use...

    You are using Perian?
--> Delete ~/Library/Preferences/org.perian.Perian.plist and re-login! May update the Perian tool and the flashing is gone.

  • Finder window icons not showing

In the main part of my finder window when I am in column view, the icons for each individual file are not showing. The file name is there as is the extension (if I go into preferences and enable it). I am concerned as-although in itself it is merely an aesthetic thing-I fear it could be the symptom of something more serious. Thus far I have repaired disk permissions but that is about the extent of repair jobs that I can do.
Thanks in advance if you can help.

This could possibly be related to changing the "view options" - mine seem to have corrected itself when I right clicked > show view options and then changed some minor settings - think I changed it to last view and then clicked "Use as defaults" - seemed to work. But this wasn't due to changing it to list view as the icons were also missing as soon as I changed to the different view - just seemed to work when I clicked "Use as defaults" and then they appeared when I open and closed the finder. Hope it works anyway.

  • "Name" portion of my Finder windows too long

When I open most (but not all) Finder windows, the Name section is extremely long, even when the names in the directory or folder are very short.
Does anyone know a way to reset or define the width of the name column? The other columns seem fine.

Thanks, I agree it's a bug but one doesn't throw such words around here too quickly. Here  are the main issues:
    • It does not matter how I adjust the size of the NAME section in a Finder Window in List view. The next time the very same window is open, it defaults to the original size when initially opened with the NAME section too long for the content.
    • The NAME section is always extremely long regardless of what is in the list (see image attached).
    • Often, the TAG dot is so far over to the right that is does ot appear.  It is not visible because the LIST COLUMN is too long. The rest of the window columns (SIZE, KIND, etc.) are similarly completely hidden in the overlarge window scrolling off to the right. They can be scrooled into view, but still default to the "too large" size when the window is opened.
    • About half the time, it is not possible to adjust the LIST VIEW column size by the handle betweem the sections (NAME, DATE, KIND, etc.). Clicking on the handle (the line between sections) has no effect and the left and right arrows do not appear. This seems to be limited to only the NAME section ofthe window.
Again, resizing the screen does nothing to fix any of this. I've looked at the FInder Preferences in the User Library which I have bolded below. I have opened and changed these in TextWrangler but they revert to the exact same settings, which I assume is becuase there is no way to quit the Finder w/o it saving the currently used preferences and settings (at least the unmutable ones). I will try booting in Target mode and replacing that file later today to see if i can force the OS to default to a smaller column size.
Please! No more "novice" answers to this question. It's not a matter of my not understanding how the Finder works, nor any user error. The Finder windows on this system, for whatever reason, are not working efficiently and not accepting user adjustments for some reason. THAT is what I am trying to address.
Thanks again, Edwin Drood, for your confirmation of the issue.
    Best,
    mm

  • Items in Finder window will not show alphabetically while in columns view

I am running a Mac Pro Yosemite 10.10.1
a couple of weeks ago I had some kind of glitch since then it takes a long time to save items having a continuous spinning beach ball.
Also in the Finder window items will no longer listed alphabetically while in columns view  they list fine in the other views.
Is there an easy way to fix or  could I fix it by reinstalling the operating system?

    Hi tundrabob,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it sounds like Finder takes a while to save and you need to sort a window. I would recommend that you read these articles, they may be helpful in troubleshooting your issue.

  • My Finder window no longer opens when I click on it.  What do I need to change?

My finder window in my dock used to open when I clicked on it.  Now it does nothing when I click on it and I have to right click and select New Finder Window to be able to see the contents of my computer.  What setting do I need to change to get back to click and open?

Tried this (thanks) but the Finder is listed twice in the Force quit box and each time I select Relaunch both windows just reappear and I still can't click on the Finder icon in the dock and get it to open!

  • File Info in framemaker files

I want to update the information under file info automatically.
I want it to be populated with the Doc title, release date etc.
Is there some way to do it. Can I use variables here...
    Any suggestions anyone?
    Sujatha

Unfortunately, the File Info dialog box does not support variables and has to be populated manually.
The File Info fields are exposed to FrameScript and the FDK, so different mechanisms can be set programmatically to update fields in automated ways.
Specifically with respect to FM->PDF workflows, my FrameMaker-to-Acrobat TimeSavers add-on can optionally set the Title field from the first/top bookmark (see http://www.microtype.com/ImprovePDF01.html for additional information).

The indicator of airplay for Apple TV no longer shows up as a choose at the scroll up tab at the bottom of the screen

Make sure your phone is running the same iOS or higher as the one you backed up.  If not, first update the phone.  Then try restoring the backup again by going to Settings>General>Reset and tapping Erase All Content and Settings.  This will bring you back to the setup screens where you will be given the option to Restore from iCloud Backup again.

  • Finder: doesn't show EXIF info for remote files

When you select a jpg-file in finder and do a "get info" on it, you see Exif-info in the "More Info" section. That does not occur however for remote files (NFS or SMB). Does anyone know the cause of this behaviour and how I can change it?

Here's an update. The zip file in question contains the latest version of a suite of Java applets that I've been using for some time. The developer just sent me the previous version and the latest version, but the latter was compressed with a different compression tool; he didn't say which one. I moved the two zip files onto my iBook G3 running OS X 10.3.8 and they both unzipped correctly. However, under 10.4.4 only the one compressed with the different compression tool unzipped correctly. This suggests a bug in 10.4.x does it not?

  • Finder no longer shows document folders, only All Files

Suddenly, Finder only lists "All My Files", "AirDrop" and "Applications" under Favorites where it used to list "Documents", "Pictures", etc. from which I could access "My Documents" and subsequent document folders.  Now I have to wade through all of my files irrespective of file type or subject.  This is obviously untenable, so what have I missed?

Okay I have figured out part of the problem and fixed it, although one issue still persists.
I fixed the "Current Status" issue for my servers by adding port 5900 & 3283 to the port forwarding settings in my Airport Extreme via the Airport Utility application. I don't remember having port forwarding turned on for my (now dead) Linksys router, but I could be mistaken.
Now I have a different problem. When I go to "copy" a file from my local machine to a remote server, I get a message that says "This task will fail: A console user is not logged in on www/servername/com"
If I log into that computer first, I am able to copy items, but I remember being able to copy items to my remote servers before without having to first sign into them? Am I mistaken on this or have I uncovered another problem?
    Any help appreciated.
