Finding an Imagewriter II extesion for Tiger classic to download

I have an application that runs in classic. I need to have it print on an Imagewriter II. I have the Imagewriter II attached to a Mac mini using a keyspan serial to USB converter. There is no Imagewriter or Imagewriter II extension in the OS 9 extensions folder on the Mac mini. I can not find an Imagewriter II extension on my OS 9.2.2 CD. Where can I find an Imagewriter II extension to download?
Thanks,

  • How to FIND BootCamp for Tiger? (own Leapord)

I have Leopard but won't install until Pro Tools and all the OS 10.5 bugs (10.5.2 supposed to be huge), fix comes out - in the mean time, any way to get a copy of bootcamp for TIGER as this is supposed to be the best way to get your mac to run the fastest with games in windows. Parallels on a Macbook Pro is a joke (regarding gaming) and is extremely choppy.
    Thanks

  • OS-9 applications crash Tiger Classic, worked fine in Panther Classic

    Greetings,
I recently installed OS-X Tiger and upgraded to 10.4.10 incl. all security and Java updates. Some older OS-9 applications (e.g., Chessmaster 4000 and some of my own software I created years ago), which ran flawlesslyl in the Panther Classic environment, now crash Tiger Classic. In fact, even 10.4.10 gets screwed. E.g., empty ghost windows appear that cannot be removed or the upper Tiger menu bar is empty. Only a computer restart sometimes solves the problem, not the forced quit of Classic or an OS-X Finder relaunch.
When I rebooted from OS-X Panther again, I got told that there was a problem with the "new Classic". So I set preferences for a different, not updated (by OS-X Tiger) 0S-9 System folder - and my old applications ran flawlessly again.
Right now I have to switch between Tiger and Panther. Is there a workaround to have Tiger Classic run older OS-9 applications? Obviously, there is a problem with the "new" Classic.
Some OS-9 applications like Photoshop 5.5 run well in Tiger Classic. Therefore, I can rule out a general problem with my Classic environment. OS-X updates do not exist for some scientific software I use.
Thanks in advance for your advice,
    Dietmar
PS: Apple states that there is no firmware update required for a G4 Quicksilver Mac.

Update: I realized that Tiger's new Classic environment cannot handle OS-9 applications that require 256 or fewer display colors for operation. In fact, the new Classic environment will not even start up successfully, if 256 colors are set.
That is not correct. I run Classic under Tiger with 256 colours fairly often. I have one very, very, very old game (Harpoon Classic) which won't run unless the system is set to 256 colours. Every now and again I still play it. Classic works with 256 colours, and it also starts up with 256 colours.
Classic does this with my iMac, and with my eMac, under Tiger, and with my beige G3 under Jaguar. (Or at least it did the last time I ran Classic on the beige.) The eMac shipped with Panther; Classic ran with 256 colours there, too.
I suspect that you have a different problem.
    Which applications are you using?

  • Tiger/Classic and USB problems

I have two instances where a USB device that worked in Panther/Classic will not work in Tiger/Classic.
One is StylusRIP from Epson that I use to print Postscript files with my Stylus 3000. Worked fine in Panther/Classic, since I upgraded to Tiger the printer is not recognized. The printer works in OSX using the non-Postscript driver, so I know that basic connectivty (cables, ports, etc.) is OK.
The other is a RoboLab USB infrared transmitter. Same scenario.
While troubleshooting the transmitter, I tried booting into OS9 (on my G4) and the connection was made. It worked fine. I tried the same thing with StylusRip, and it too worked fine, the printer was recognized. I can, as a workaround, output PS files or press-ready PDFs (since I won't be able to use any of my designs apps in Classic), reboot in 9 and print, but I'd rather find out how to fix the problem.
Can anyone tell me what could be different about the way Tiger handles USB that could affect the interoperability with devices/software that require Classic? I did find one post that recommended resetting the PRAM, so I will try that. Any other recommendations are welcome.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I am running 9.2.2. The only thing that changed was the update to Tiger. I have called ESPON, and they refer me to Adobe because they licensed the RIP from Adobe. I've not had any success with that yet. The last update of RIP does not support the Stylus 3000 printer, and I don't think it's native anyway. The set-up I was using was a "non-supported workaround", so I may just be out of luck. Which is a pain, because the printer still has some miles on it. I may try to see if I can use an older Mac running 9.2.2 as a print server.
Robolab has an OSX native update out, so we will get that.
What I found curious was that both pieces of software, or the USB connectivity required by both, was broken by Tiger.

Apple discontinued BootCamp beta last year. They have all expired and no longer work.
    It was a beta program.
You need to purchase Leopard in order to install BootCamp and get the updates.
You can also install Winders without BootCamp using a virtual program like Parallels or using the free bootmanager, rEFIt. Either of these will allow you to install Winders, Linux or any other OSs on your HD, but you are on your own if you take that route.
The only support path is using Leopard.

  • TA48312 where do you find OS 9.0 updates to use classic on G3, & G4?

where do you find OS 9.0 updates to use classic on G3, & G4?

OS 9 does not come as part of the OS X installation package. You will need to purchase an OS 9 installer CD. You will need OS 9.1 or higher. The likely sources for it would be eBay or macsales.com. However, if the particular Mac model you have does not boot OS 9, then you cannot use a standard OS 9 installer CD. You would instead need a special version of OS 9 that would have come as part of the Software Restore disks distributed with your computer when it was new. The last PowerMac G4 model that could boot OS 9 was the original Mirrored Drive Door (MDD) introduced in August 2002. That model required OS 9.2.2. If yours is a later model that cannot boot OS 9, then you will need to contact Apple about obtaining replacement CDs.

  • QT 7.2 installer for Tiger ?

Nope, just for the iPhone and Touch. The only thing for the Classic are the "Clickwheel Games" section.

  • SE/30 as print server for Tiger Network

Is it possible to use an SE/30 running 7.5.3 to act as a print server on a Tiger network?
SE/30 has an ethernet card installed. Network involves a Linksys WRT54G. AppleTalk is on, because I print to a LaserWriter 4/600.
The reason for asking, is that the Assante EtherTalk box is troublesome. (Altho' it's about 6 years old.) When there is a power interruption, it is very uncertain whether I can see the LaserWriter again.
By using the SE/30, I could connect the LW to it with the simple LocalTalk connection, and bypass the Assante stuntbox.
    Help would be most welcome.

    LocalTalk Bridge 2.1 Information
The Apple LocalTalk Bridge is an unsupported tool used to share LocalTalk-only devices, such as some LaserWriter printers, PowerBook notebook computers, or Newton MessagePad communications devices, on an Ethernet, Infrared, or Token Ring network. With the LocalTalk Bridge, you can access an Ethernet, Infrared, or Token Ring network while maintaining a seamless connection to your LocalTalk network. Again, this is an unsupported tool and has been provided solely as a convenience. Apple makes no warranty or representation, express or implied, with respect to this program, its quality, performance, or fitness for a particular purpose.
System requirements for the LocalTalk Bridge
System software version 7.1 or later.
Either classic AppleTalk networking software or Open Transport version 1.1 or later. For machines running Open Transport, version 1.1.2 or later is recommended.
    Memory requirements:
    • The LocalTalk Bridge driver requires approximately 70K of RAM to run.
    • Open Transport requires a minimum of 5MB of RAM for computers with 68000-family microprocessors or 8MB of RAM for computers with PowerPC microprocessors. Open Transport memory requirements are based on total system memory including virtual memory, minus the size of any RAM disk and disk cache you choose.
    Hardware Requirements:
    • The LocalTalk Bridge requires at least a 68020 processor.
    • Network interfaces to include one LocalTalk port and an alternate interface (Ethernet, Token Ring, or Infrared).

  • Quicktime 7.4.5 for Tiger?

    Hi all,
I suffered the dreaded jerky playback with the QT7.5 "upgrade", so I reverted to 7.4.1 using Pacifist.
Problem is iTunes now says I need QT 7.4.5 to watch videos I have purchased, and if I open those videos in QT 7.4.1, apart from just getting a grey screen, I am told that I need to re-authorise my computer to play this content, even though if I do that in iTunes I am told my machine is already authorised.
    Two questions:
    1. I could not find a QT 7.4.5 on the Apple site for Tiger - only for Leopard. I clearly recall my QT was auto-updated to 7.4.5 a few months back so what is the URL to download the right version?
    2. How do I re-authorise my iTunes content so that I can play it (or will getting 7.4.5 fix it?
    Thanks muchly...

It is possible that something in either your pre-existing setup or your method of installing updates, are the root causes of whatever problems you are having with QT 7.5 particularly with choppy playback. Out of date plug-ins and add-ons could also be playing a part. Some users have found choppy playback to be associated with improperly loaded plug-ins and add-ons from third party vendors as well as those included by Apple with prior versions of Quicktime.
Third-party add-ons include DivX, Flip4Mac, or FLV components, while the included plug-ins are AppleIntermediateCodec.component, and AppleMPEG2Codec.component. The files for these are located in the root library, therefore a faulty component will load improperly for all users, resulting in choppy playback even when a user creates a new account. Some may need updating or just reinstalling to work with QT 7.5.
    You should therefore:
Remove and re-add all quicktime components and plug-ins.
    Navigate to /Library/QuickTime/
Move all plug-in ".component" files from the folder (to the Desktop, for instance)
Launch QuickTime and quit it again
Place the ".component" files back in the QuickTime library folder
Launch QuickTime again, and the choppiness should be better.
A few more things to try but in each case first close all applications and repair permissions.
1 Try opening then closing GarageBand, or launching then quitting the "Audio MIDI Setup" application located in Applications/Utilities. Failing that, go back to Audio MIDI Setup, and under the Audio Devices tab, make sure the Audio Output Format is 44100.0 2ch-16bit.
    Restart your Mac.
2 Go to the Library on your main hard disk and find the Internet Plug-Ins folder. Try removing the following files:
    QuickTime plugin.plugin
    Quicktime plugin.webplugin
    Restart your Mac.
    Re-install the Quicktime 7.5 update
Go to Home/Library/Receipts and delete the file Quicktime 7.5 pkg.
Download from the Download page on the Apple site the correct version of Quicktime 7.5 for your Mac.
Install it and restart your Mac. Repair permissions.
3 If still no luck, it is time to look carefully at your plug-ins and add-ons. The safest way is to download and re-install all of them. The ones you need in order to see and hear virtually everything the web has to offer are:
RealPlayer 11 (which is no longer in beta) for Mac from:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/15540
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs.
Adobe FlashPlayer should first be uninstalled using the appropriate uninstaller available here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=2 and then the latest version obtained from here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash and installed.
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.)
You should also ensure that you have downloaded and installed all the correct version for your Mac of all recent Security Updates.
(N.B. Security Updates require both a restart and a permission repair.)
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them) to enable Java.
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz, and that you have selected 'Built in Audio'.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
There is an additional 'fix' you could try if you are having problems with Flash and Quicktime, depending on which type of Mac you have:
On Intel Macs, make sure that you are not running Safari in Rosetta. You can check this, and change it, in the Get Info window.
On PPC Macs, go to the Hard Disk/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, and drag the file 'QuickTime Plugin.webplugin' to the desktop. Quit and restart Safari. If things have improved you can trash that file. If they haven't put it back, as the lack of this plug-in can cause QT content in some widgets to cease functioning.
If none of the foregoing worked, then you should consider and archive and install before repeating all of the above.
Note that most users experiencing these problems have reported that the Quicktime update 7.5.5, and the security update 2008-006, cured the problem.
Lack of free space on your hard disk can also cause 'choppy playback'.

  • Good troubleshooting book for tiger

hello, has anyone heard of the "x-lab" book by dr smoke? is it pretty good? i read a little and it seemed like it could help. before i get it i wanted to check and see if anyone knows or can recommend other books for troubleshooting and repairs and such for tiger. i have the missing manual book and its good, but it's more like an intro to tiger. i would like to learn how to fix my mac and do troubleshooting and learn more about the os.
    thx

Hi! Dr. Smoke is one of the "masters" and is revered by all one these boards. It's a good book to have around in that time of trouble especially if you don't have another computer that you can use for research on a problem. Also one of the best ways to learn is by reading the posts and especially solved ones. You'll soon pick up on the best "experts" and you'll always find yourself reading anything they post! Tom
