Firefox 4.0 beta is not opening a window when I try to start it up

downloaded the firefox 4.0 beta on my laptop MacBook Pro, with OSX 10.6.4. Firefox would not open a new window when I tried to start up the application.

Often you have to start by using the Adobe Cleaner tool first to remove all the Adobe applications:
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
Then do your reinstallation.

My computer thinks firefox is running and will not open browser window,error = firefox is already running, you need to terminate the process or restart computer. restart has no effect. what file would make the computer think firefox is running?

Reinstalling does not help. Computer locked up for unkown reason and this has happened ever since when i try to start firefox.
Is there a file I can delete or kill that will terminate this process?

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

Safari will not open a window when "open at login" is enabled

I seem to be having this issue where I can't seem to get a Safari window to open at login. I've tried many many settings from disabling the pop-up blocker to application permissions, it just doesn't want to open a window upon login. The icon in the dock has the indicator light that it is open, but no window appears.
I had no issues with this up until the past few updates that were done. I don't have any 3rd party plug-ins installed and it happens on both my Macbook Pro and Mac Mini and it is not profile specific.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

You're having symptoms of a common problem here.
Your problem may be with the Community Toolbar.
It's a terrible app/plugin that messes up Macs like the plague.
Did you ever install a customized toolbar? Like a Facebook one? Or for watching sports?
Here's how to search and destroy:
Close Safari.
Check here for CT Loader
Locate and delete:
HD/Library/Application Support/Conduit
HD/Library/InputManagers/CTLoader
HD/Library/Receipts/ctloader.pkg
HD/Library/Receipts/<Toolbar name>.pkg
HD/Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/CT2285220.bundle
HD/Users/<User name>/Library/Application Support/Conduit
It may not be in every single location, but get it out where ever you find it.
Restart Safari. Any Better?

My Quicktime will not open, and therefore when I try to play a video I get a message saying I need to download Quicktime, but I cannot do that as when I try, I get a message saying I already have it. How do I un-install Quicktime so I can re-install it?

I am having issues with Quicktime. It would not open, so I tried to "delete" it and re-intall. When I did that, it would not let me install it and I got a message saying it could not install because I already had it.
So, I guess what I need to know is how do I un-install Quicktime (even though the icon is gone) and then re-install it.

Yes I had that problem this week. Did search in finder and dragged all files to trash,including any attempted down loads of updated quicktime, emptied, restarted and then down loaded latest version and all ok.

Why do i get an "open with" box when i try to start screen saver?

I have an Hp a6120n PC. When I try to install a screen saver, I get a dialog box that says open with and gives a series of suggested programs to use to open the screen saver. The same thing happens when I try to download a program from the internet. What can I do? Also, I would like to wipe my hard drive and start over. Is there some way I can do that? I am not ver computer literate so please try to explain so I can understand. This is my first computer and I bought it from my Daughter so I want to take all her information off of it.

Thunderbird freezes and takes forever to open "write window" when I try to send emails

I'm using Thunderbird 31.4.0 and when I wanna send an email Thunderbird freezes and it takes forever (in this case 20+ seconds) for the "write" window to open and ALLWAYS with the recipient left out.... and oh please don't get me started on how long forever is when I try to reply an email........

I'm using AVG Internet Security 2015 and I should perhaps also mention that I have a chosen few Thunderbird add-ons (adblock, email security and a few others) installed and that it works "so-so" when I run Thunderbird in "safe mode".

I am trying to open facebook with my firefox 4 but the page is not opening. where as when i try to open it from a friends laptop(internet explorer8) it opens perfect. It also opens perfectly from my Iphone

I am unable to open facebook from my computer. I am using Firefox 4. whereas when I use my Iphone or my friends Laptop who is using IE 8. It opens perfectly.

I don't know if these are important or not, but I thought I would include them anyways.

Firefox 3.6.6 will not open any page when I open firefox... how can I get a page up

When I open firefox (3.6.6) on my macbook it opens across the bar at the top but no page ever appears... there is nothing diminished across the bottom... I've rebooted my computer and quit Firefox a number of times and nothing changes

Photoshop cs3 will not open any files when I try to open them?

Can somebody please help me? I have tried resetting my preferences in photoshop and it still does not work. I go to file < open < and the image does show up or anything I try to open in photoshop. I have windows xp and I am using photoshop cs3.

It almost sounds as though something has corrupted your installation of Adobe programs. It could be perhaps a necessary Common File being deleted, or corrupted.
Most Adobe programs offer the Repair Install feature, and I would see if it's available for CS3. CS2 Production Studio apps. allow for this. When I have had to do the Repair Install, I have just inserted the installation media (Disk 1), and have chosen Repair Install from the AutoRun menu. In some later versions, there was a Repair Install available from the Help menu, so you can look there too.
With suites, I have done the Repair Install for each program in the suite (CS2 Production Studio in my case), and just gone down the list (second, or third menu) of installed programs. For Production Studio, the whole process took no more than 45 mins. from the installation disks.
If you have lost something, the Repair Install should fix it.

You will have to close firefox.exe with the Windows Task Manager from the "Processes" tab of the WTM since you don't have a widow to close.
The best way to close Firefox is through File > Exit, for those who stuck with the "Firefox" button click on the Firefox button then Exit. It is not perfect but it is a lot better than just closing the window with the "X" in the upper right corner

I switched on my PC and there was an update for realplayer. Since then firefox will not load. It is running according to Task Manager. I've downloaded a another copy of the programme using IE but whilst it loaded as a programme, does not open a window.

Helps if I give the correct link ! <br/>The press shift button appears to still work, but the option to start in safe mode from the programs listing of a standard install I do not think exists anymore.
Safe mode will start from a command line, (or a shortcut) and in some circumstances you may need to enter the full path name on a command or shortcut detailed instructions are at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode
Remember (at least at this stage) do not make changes when you get the options list, just click on the continue button.
If you think that RealPlayer is causing the problem you could uninstall that for now.
Firefox recent versions are 3.6 4.0 (and 5.0 in beta). There is some debate as to whether creating new profiles or re-installing Firefox is the simplest method of troubleshooting and solving some of these problems, personally I use multiple profiles and multiple versions of Firefox, and tend to forget the required procedures are less than straightforward. For now at least try [[safe mode]] again.

Firefox will not open multiple windows.

Just upgraded to Firefox 3.6.3. I can open multiple tabs in the open window, but I can not open another window. Possibly unrelated issue is the search bar not functioning.
As for the window issue, I've tried;
Ctrl + N
File [N]
File -> New Window
Rt Click Link -> Open in New Window
Nothing whatsoever happens with either of these attempts.
As for the Search bar I've tried to input a search and press [Enter] as well as clicking the magnifying glass with the mouse. As with the window issue nothing happens.
I'm not sure if these issues are related. Restarting does not fix these.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the ''Safe mode'' start window.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (on Mac: "Firefox > Quit")

Firefox will not open new window for websites that require it

I am running Firefox 3.6.16 on Windows XP.
For some time now, certain websites will just not work - for instance, when I use Mapquest, it used to open the new window when I clicked on "print" - that no longer happens.
Today, I was trying to use the eScrip online mall, and when I clicked on the store name, it did not open a new window - this was working fine back in December when I was doing my online shopping.
My suspicion is the new version has some kind of problem. does anyone have a solution for this?

I use MapQuest a lot but haven't used the PRINT option for a while. I just tried it and you are right, the PRINT does not open any window or even work. But if you change it to the NEW MapQuest, the PRINT function will work. I guess MapQuest has disabled the PRINT option in their CLASSIC version. Maybe they are trying to encourage users to use their NEW version instead.
If you still want to use the CLASSIC version, you can always copy the map and paste it onto a Image Editor program and print from there.
