Firefox always starts maximized

Whenever I start firefox, it's maximized. This normally wouldn't be a problem, but I've got dual monitor with xinerama, and it spans both monitors. Even that would be tolerable, but it doesn't start centered, it starts with it's upperleft corner in the middle of the right monitor. It's a pain to drag it over and restore it. I'm using fluxbox-devel, and the remember stuff doesn't seem to work. I restore it from maximized, drag it over to the left monitor, make it a reasonable size, pick remember position and remember dimensions from the menu, and hit save on close and close. When start it again, it's back the way it was! It's really aggravating  . Has anyone else had this problem? I can't seem to find any info on it.

perhaps it is a bug with firefox have you looked through their bug tracker to see if this is a bug? perhaps googling will give you some info? also maybe check some other distros forums to see whats up.
i would help you out but my web browsing is limited to about an hour from work. i am not at home right now and where i am staying has no internet capabilities.

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
#*Windows:
#**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
#**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Installing Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!

• My new Firefox ver 29 always starts maximized how do i set the window size and not maximized?

I had reinstall my Windows 7 (win 7 pro 64bit)
so i had to reinstall firefox as well, installed ver 27 and updated it to version 29
now when i start firefox it will start maximized and i want to set the window size when it starts,
why the size of the window will not change and it will start maximized all the time?

# In Firefox, type about:support into the address bar and press Enter.
# Click the Show Folder button. A Windows Explorer window opens.
# Right-click the Firefox taskbar icon and choose either Close All Windows or Close Window.
# In the Windows Explorer window that opened earlier, delete the localstore.rdf file.
# If you have Firefox pinned to the taskbar, right-click the taskbar icon, then right-click the Firefox icon in the menu that pops up and choose Properties.
#* If you have a desktop shortcut, simply right-click it and choose Properties.
# Click the Shortcut tab in the Properties window.
# Make sure Run is set to "Normal window".

• Firefox always opens maximized and does not save window size unless I delete localstore.rdf

I use Linux MInt 13 with Cinnamon 1.6.7. Since the updates to Firefox 17 came through the update manager, the program always opens maximized, no matter what state I close it in. When I de-maximize, it comes up in a different size and position than the last time.
Some googling turned up that this can be due to a corrupted localstore.rdf file, and indeed the window sizing works properly if I delete that before starting.
It also works propoerly in safe mode, but even a fresh install without any add-ons, search engines or anything opens in window mode at first startup, but will always open in the same place as the first time after I move and close it, and if I resize it, it goes back to always opening maximized.
Any help to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

We're sorry to hear that your Firefox seems to be crashing when you open it. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.
#Press the following shortcut to get a Run window: [Windows] + [R]. This should bring up a window that contains a text field.
#In that text field, enter %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
#From that explorer window, double-click on the Mozilla folder, then double-click on Firefox and then on Crash reports. Double-click on submitted.
#Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to View > Arrange Icons by > Modified to get the most recent files at the top of the window.
#Open the most recent 5 files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
#Paste each ID with bp- into the reply window on the forums.
Thanks in advance!

• How can I clear out whatever is making Firefox always start with the restore sessioin screen?

The restore session screen appears with the same website. I cleaned out my cache, updated to the latest version and it still comes up with the restore session.

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the sessionstore.js [2] file and possible sessionstore-##.js [3] files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
* Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
* http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

• I can't get Firefox to start with a blank page, which I always managed to do up till 17.0, buy now it always starts with the last page.

I have been using Firefox for several years, and know how to set my Home Page by going to Tools/Options/General, and selecting the appropriate tab.
However, since the last update to 17.0.1, It now always starts as it was when I shut down, including multiple windows if I had them open. It is so irritating that I am considering changing my browser.

On start-up, Firefox always tries to connect to a proxy even if I set the "network settings" to "no proxy". I have to manually go to "network settings" and set it to "no proxy" every time I start Firefox.

Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
* https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>Safe mode</u>:
* Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
* Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

• When trying to send a link, firefox will start opening new blank tabs and continue until I shutdown my computer.

This started about a month ago. When try to send a link from a page Firefox will start opening untitled tabs this continues even though I try to close Firefox. It just keeps going until I'm forced to shut down my computer. Just today the same thing happened just clicking a link within Firefox. It seems to have become very unstable.

See Firefox keeps opening many tabs or windows
You can have infinite tabs opening if you have selected Firefox as the application to handle a file if you get an Open with download window.<br />
Firefox should not be selected as the application to handle a file and you have to remove the action that is associated with that file type.
See also http://kb.mozillazine.org/File_types_and_download_actions ("File handling in Firefox 3 and SeaMonkey 2" and "Reset Download Actions")
Set that action in Tools > Options > Applications to 'Always Ask' or delete the file mimeTypes.rdf in the Profile Folder to reset all actions.

• Firefox is starting in the 32 bit mode it says Firefox*32.. How can i get rid of this?

Firefox is starting in the 32 bit mode it says Firefox*32.. How can i get rid of this? Whenever i close Firefox and restart my computer it goes back to normal. There is also another problem associated with this which is that whenever Firefox is in 32 bit mod I listen to music the sound always comes unclear like clogged up.When i restart my computer its not 32 bit anymore the sound gets back to normal.I am using Windows 7.

Hi,
If 32-bit Firefox was installed, it will be always listed as such. If both 32-bit and 64-bit were installed, please make sure to start the correct one. Usually the 32-bit would be installed in Computer > ?:\Program Files (x86) > Mozilla Firefox, and the 64-bit in Computer > ?:\Program Files. You can also type about: in the location bar and look in Build identifier:

• Despite setting a Home Page Firefox always opens in the last page viewed. How do I solve this?

I have followed the instructions for setting a Home Page. Firefox always opens in the last page I viewed. Clicking on the Home icon does take me to my Home Page once Firefox has opened.

You can check if you have an user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that sets the browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once pref to true.
Your System Details List shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize some prefs on each start of Firefox.
The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created it, so normally it wouldn't be there.
you can check its content with a plain text editor if you didn't create this file yourself.
The user.js file is read each time you start Firefox and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.

• A new window used to open windowed, now always opens maximized

Clicking on "Print" inside of maps.google.com opens a new window.
It used to open windowed, not maximized and always in a certain size.
Firefox crashed, had to restart the PC and now this new window always opens maximized.
I want new tabs maximized (eg, clicking the + button) , but if an application opens a new window, I want it windowed, not maximized.
I deleted prefs.js and localstore.rdf, the problem still persists
Firefox 24

If the page uses a script to specify certain window dimensions, then Firefox usually will honor those dimensions.
However, if the new window is launched without that information, the window typically will have the same size/state as the current window, or maybe the last closed window.
The information about window sizes and positions is stored in the same file as toolbar customizations. You can get rid of this file without doing a full Firefox reset. Here's how:
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
Leave that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename localstore.rdf to something like localstore.old
Restart Firefox. Hopefully now your window behavior will be back to the default.

• Stop Firefox from starting a new tab when a new window opens?

This might be answered, but I cannot find a solution. I will give a scenario for my issue.
I am on the UPS website and click a button to print a shipping label. This opens a new FireFox window, BUT... the new window defaults to a generic tab that ALWAYS opens in circumstances like this. It does NOT open to the tab with my label. The print menu opens, but I cannot switch to the tab with my shipping label. No right click to print either. So I have to go to another browser. Absolutely annoying.
So how can I STOP Firefox from starting this generic tab when a FireFox window opens? BTW, the tab has a search bar at the top and several boxes that I can click on for Facebook, Instagram, etc. Thanks!

Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
