Firefox doesn't display bookmarks in the sidebar, only in the menu bookmark. It doesn't display bookmarks in the "organize" bookmarks. It doesn't save tabs on exit. Problem began with 3.6.6

FF 3.6.6 doesn't display bookmarks in sidebar, but a search in the sidebar shows they are still there. It does display them from the menu bar. It doesn't display bookmarks in the "organize bookmark" display. It doesn't save tabs on exit. Doesn't save browser screen size.

With so many issues with your current profile it would be better to try a new profile.
Be careful with what you copy to that new profile and it sounds that at least you have problem with places.sqlite and maybe prefs.js and localstore.rdf as well.
First test that new profile without copying files and installing extensions.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems
See [[Basic Troubleshooting|#Make_a_new_profile|Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile]]
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

I have just downloaded Firefox 4 and my autofill on the google toolbar is not working for any webpages it previously worked with. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks

Crap. That's what I was afraid of...Well, since I'm away from home and not near my pc, it sounds like I'm out of luck. The problem is that I need my phone to be at least functional for making and receiving calls. There's an apple store nearby. Perhaps I can go there and have them restore it and at least I'll be able to make and receive calls until I get home and restore from my backup. Does that sound feasible, or am I missing something?
P.s. I tried to click "correct answer" and accidentally hit "helpful". Sorry about that...

  • Firefox doesn't save the settings

As the question might say this version of Firefox (5.0.1) doesn't save the settings u do to it...For example my problem is with the toolbar and the buttons i add to it...i have tried to customize it as i previously had it in the earlier versions of firefox but it doesn't save them...i need to customize them from the beginning whenever i close and open firefox...even when it updates the add-on's and restarts it still needs to be customized...i have also checked many forums and apparently i am not the one having the same problem...some also can't save the bookmarks but that is not my case...i have recently downloaded a Premuimplay Codec-c add on and also a Facemoods and maybe ththose interfere with firefox even though i doubt it
The addon's that i definitely wanna keep on the toolbar are IMTranslator,WOT,Read It Later,Save-To-Read,ADBlock Plus and also the Home button never stays in the place i move him when i customize the toolbar
    Regards
    Albi
PS:(some add-ons don't work with firefox 5.0.1 but i guess thats the developers problems right?

Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.<br />
You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session.<br />
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default <b>about:home</b> Home page.
    Another possibility is to use:
    * [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Menu_differences Firefox (Tools) > Options] > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

  • Emails in my Inbox (both "Read" and "Unread") are all displayed in BOLD type - cannot tell the difference. Problem began with Firefox update. Problem does not occur with Internet Explorer.

    Hi,
this can be related to the compression of the PDF file.
You can turn off the FlateDecode compression again via report RSTXPDF3 as described in Note #843480. It is a little confusing. The option 'FLATE_COMPR_OFF' needs to be set to 'On' to turn off the FlateDecode compression.
To set this please run as follows:
se38 -> RSTXPDF3 -> enter 'FLATE_COMPR_OFF' in the 'Name' field -> Select 'Change Settings' radio button
You will get a pop-up 'Do not use flat compression'.
    Select the 'on' button.
After this check if the PDF is created correctly.
    regards,
    Aidan

  • Why doesn't "Save Tabs as" appear in my files menu any more?

Those are all the details I have. "Save tabs as" isn't an option in my files menu now, so I can't save a tab as a .maff file anymore. I have a screen shot of the menu, but I don't know how to include it with the question, since there doesn't seem to be any way to add an attachment to the message.

You can see the Add image, below the comment box to add your screenshot.
If you want to keep your tabs always try with session manager addon

  • Many problems began with F. 3.6.12, mostly with bookmarks.

First Firefox appeared to close but remained open, and the only I get back to Firefox was by a computer restart. That problem went away, but then I appeared to loose all my bookmarks. I recovered them with the restore operation. Then they disappeared again. This time the restore date menu did not extend back far enough in time for me to recover the bookmarks. I uninstalled 3.6.12 and attempted to reinstall it, but repeatedly received an error message. I then reinstalled 3.6.10. My bookmarks returned, but the list under "Organize Bookmarks" is still empty. Also, the menu of bookmark folders is very limited when I attempt to save a new bookmark, preventing me from putting new bookmarks where I want them. I'm continuing to place new bookmarks in the desired folders by copying the URL onto the clipboard and right clicking and pasting the copy where I want in the main bookmark list. How can I get the organization operation to show the bookmarks which I know are there? Can you tell me where, in Vista, Firefox 3.6.10, bookmarks reside. I want to copy the list to an external media so I will never loose the list again and can reinstall if lost. Is there a file like C:\***\***\***\bookmarks.html ?

  • Firefox 4 mac. no save tabs when exiting/restarting

I just upgraded to firefox 4 on my mac.
I have looked in the preferences for the option to save tabs (multiple tabs) when exiting / restarting firefox.
I have found info on this for windows but not for os x.
I love and use this feature extensively. How do I get it back?
    Thanks in advance

App tabs and Tab Groups (Panorama) are stored as part of the session data in the file sessionstore.js in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder]

  • Since upgrading to 3.6.13 on my Macs, Firefox doesn't restart tabs. I have replaced th e "|" with "%7C" as suggested in Support article, but it continues to happen. Is this the same fix for Mac or is there a different fix?

I have the preferences set to "Show my windows and tabs from the last time". I used "Use Current Pages" button. I have changed the used the "|" and I have changed the "|" to %7C that I read in one of the support articles. If Firefox is shutdown and restarted, either while the Mac is still up or after I shut down the Mac and then restart it, the problem continues. I am running Mac OS X 10.6.5 on both Macs.

In the [[How to set the home page]] article, you are explained how to set multiple home pages and how to show windows and tabs from the last time.
Is your issue about home pages or about windows and tabs from the last time?

  • Firefox doesn't save the web page's title as themselves!

I want to save web pages, for example a link like below:
    http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap080406.html
in other browsers like Avant or Opera the web title saves as itself (for example for this link the web title save as "APOD_ 2008 April 6 - Wisps Surrounding the Horsehead Nebula" ) , but in Firefox the web title save as "ap080406" .
I appreciate if somebody help me that ,if I can save the web title's as themselves.

Firefox now always stores the old session which you can access by going to the History menu and selecting "Restore Previous Session".
If you always open the last set of tabs, an alternative approach is this:
    # Click the orange Firefox button, then select options to open the options window
    # Go to the General panel
    # Change the setting "When Firefox starts" to "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

  • Firefox doesn't save any preferences (options) upon closing.

Whenever I close and re-open firefox, any changes made to options are reset. This happens both in ESR 17.0.8 AND in the latest version of FF 23.0.1.
    Things I have tried:
    Troubleshootnig information > reset firefox
    Uninstall / Re-install
    Create new profile
    delete all profiles, uninstall re-install
    check permissions on profile folders
I have been bumbling around with this issue for several hours and I noticed in the profile folder that extensions.log has an error regarding startup file checks that references preferences and am wondering if it is related. I tried a google search and couldn't find anything specific to my issue:

  • I recently installed firefox 5 and lost some of the google stuff I liked. Especially sidewiki. It is incompatible with 5. Is there anything like it that is compatible?

Would like something that is compatible with firefox 5, or do I need to go back to the previous firefox?

Extensions for Firefox, such as the Google Toolbar, include a list of compatible Firefox versions. Last time I checked, the Google Toolbar only goes up to Firefox 4. However, people have tested and it mostly works on Firefox 5, so there are two workarounds:
    (1) Edit a file to revise the range of compatible versions
    (2) Install an add-on that lets you ignore the range of compatible versions
This thread has info on both approaches: [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/837142 google toolbar does not work with firefox 5.0. why not! | Firefox Support Forum | Firefox Help].
    Any luck?

  • Why is FFX 4.0.1 so ergonomically poor? Doesn't save tabs anymore and some buttones, eg refresh "designed" virtually out of existence. This starts to look like IE!!

I am running FFX 4.0.1 over XP with SP3 and latest Windows downloads until yesterday pm.
I don't like the way I don't get offered opportunity to save multiple tabs on closing FFX - in fact I think I ought to be offered the chance to save any tabs I have open when I close it. To me - and I guess to a lot of others that's important. I also don't like the way that the refresh button (which I use often) and others have been relegated, aren't and aren't as obvious as they used to be.
FFX used to be ergonomically well-thought out...this looks like it is slipping backwards towards IE Standards.
I wanted to submit this via the normal "complaints" channel, but that doesn't want to work properly. Come on Mozilla; get your act together. This is possibly the worst release in years!!
FWIW I have been using FFX since it appeared and Netscape before that. I have never moaned about this sort of thing before. That is how poor I think that this is.

    '''Saving multiple tabs'''
Firefox now always stores the old session, and you can access it by going to the History menu and selecting "Restore Previous Session"
If you want Firefox to display the message to save the session, it can be turned back on by changing some preferences.
    # Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter
    # Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
    # Locate the preference '''browser.tabs.warnOnClose''', if its value is set to '''false''', double-click on it to change its value to '''true'''
    # Repeat this for these 3 preferences '''browser.warnOnQuit''', '''browser.warnOnRestart''' and '''browser.showQuitWarning'''
If you always open the last set of tabs, an alternative approach is this:
    # Click the orange Firefox button, then select options to open the options window
    # Go to the General panel
    # Change the setting "When Firefox starts" to "Show my windows and tabs from last time"
    '''Refresh button'''
In Firefox 4 by default the Stop, Go and Reload (refresh) buttons are combined and attached to the right hand edge of the location bar.
When you are typing in the location bar it will show the Go button. When a site is loading it shows the Stop button. At other times it shows the Reload button.
If you want separate buttons, right-click on a toolbar and choose Customize, you can then drag and drop the stop or reload buttons and place them elsewhere. If you place them in the order "Reload-Stop" on the right hand edge of the location bar they will be combined again. For more details on customizing the toolbar see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/How+to+customize+the+toolbar
    '''Appearance'''
If you do not like the new UI, you can make Firefox 4 look and behave more like Firefox 3.6, for details see http://www.computertechtips.net/64/make-firefox-4-look-like-ff-3-6

  • The older version would allow to save tabs when closing, how can i get the new version to do the same?

the previous version would ask something like 'save file' when i would close firefox. as i use various tabs this is a very helpful feature for me. i would like to get this same feature on the new version, otherwise i want to know how to go back to the older version.

  • At one point, I accidentaly chose to always save tabs when exiting. i fixed this by reseting browser.startup.page to 3; however, while it now asks me, even when i click no it never opens the next session to my homepage, only to what the last tab was.

When trying to close multiple tabs, mozilla warns me and asks if i want to save. Even if I click no, the next time mozilla opens it opens to the last open tab of the previous session. If there is only one tab open when i close firefox it does not ask me, but will still load that tab when firefox next opens.

So, I fixed it...but I'm not quite sure how. I compared, line by line, my about:config with the one on my houses main computer...only did about two screen's worth, but I changed some values to match the other computer and the problems gone!
