Firefox don't open but it apears in task manager

When i click on firefox icon... nothing happens. I'll go to task manager and there it is... firefox. But it won't open...

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to install for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • I have windows 7 and my firefox client will not open, but it shows in task manager with 108k memory. Whats going on with my firefox?

As stated on the question I have windows 7 and meet all the requirements. But when i launch firefox It wont start, but it shows in task manager with 108k memory.

Got the exact same problem aswell, finally fed up with it now as i just started up firefox and 14 new windows opened because of this bug, luckily my computer can handle them but someone with a slower processor it would have been a nightmare, needs fixing ASAP.
Reverting back to 3.6.3 until this issue is solved. (link for anyone wanting to do the same below)

  • Firefox 3.6.9 doesn't open but is running in task manager

I received Animalware via µTorrent and was very busy cleaning up. I changed from AVG (because it let it slip by) to Avira Anti-Vir, ran MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, among other threat removers. In the beginning, none of the current browsers, as well as Outlook Express, were able to connect, but as I progressed with the cleaning operation, IE, Chrome, Safari & Outlook Express were able to connect. Firefox still doesn't open and displays no errors, but runs in Task Manager using 95% of the CPU. I am also running online scans from Trend Micro, Panda and bitDefender. Meanwhile, if anyone has any other suggestions, I would be very thankful.

  • Firefox won't start, but is running in Task Manager

I was running 3.x for a long time with no troubles.
Last week it crashed, and since then I have been unable to start Firefox although it is showing as running in the Task Manager when I attempt to start it.
So it opens no window, but appears to be running.
    Same for Safe Mode.
    Same for Profile Manager.
Can't use switch to from task manager.
I uninstalled 3.x and deleted all mention of Firefox or Mozilla from the registry.
I installed 4, and still have the exact same problems.
Running XP with a load of business apps, but nothing installed recently.

There may be a corrupted file on Firefox.<br>
Please attempt to perform a clean reinstall. [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/forum-response-clean-reinstall (More Details)] This is different than a regular uninstall.
If a clean reinstall does not fix the issue, please try starting your operating system in safe mode.<br>
To do so, please do the following:
#Ensure that your computer is shut down completely
    #Press the power button
#Tap the <code>F8</code> key repeatedly before the Windows logo and startup screen is displayed
#Select Safe Mode With Networking for the advanced startup options list
Please report back with the results of both solutions.

  • I loaded a new Firefox because F does not open. That new Firefox does not open. At all. Task Manager tells some loadings, but F not open. I have restarted, cleaned register, but F does not work.

Earlier F crashed, crashed etc. Now it does not start.
    I have checked viruses etc.
When I started a new loading, no questions of add-ons or anything.

  • I close out Firefox and a sign still comes up saying it's open and won't let me open anything else. In task manager it is not open even when the sign says so.

The task manager does not show that a Firefox window is open but it will not let me do anything more until I shut down my computer. It's a real hassle to have to do that so often and wait for everything to load again and again

    Hi,
This may mean the Task Manager is "lying" and could indicate a OS malware issue. These dedicated security forums would be helpful:

    Hi
I actually dont think its Lion (sorry i put that as couldn't remember) as not on that computer at the moment, its at home, I am at work. I know CS2 is compatable with whatever OS I am using because I can using CS2 indesign etc and I was able to use CS2 photoshop until I updated the Camino browser (I believe this is when it stopped working). I have CS5 but it wont work at all on my Powerbook G4.
I can send a message later with the OS I am using and maybe you can suggest other help? They told me in the MAC shop to try and get the installation discs. They also said I would be able to get these via Apple's 'media replacement programme' which I cannot find anyway! To be honest, I am not even sure getting the install discs will work but I'll try whatever I need to try and get Photoshop working on it again!
    Thanks

Just installed Firefox 3.6. Firefox will not start and Firefox safemode does not start either. Using Task manager I do not see if started either. If I create a new profile and start from that window, Firefox starts up. I see no error windows/messages. I do have it listed in my Firewall as an exception program with Permit All. What is happening?

I have Windows XP (Media Center Edition) and all updates (Firefox, Adobe PDF, Microsoft, virus protection, etc) are installed. This has only been a problem since Firefox 4, and isn't a problem in Internet Explorer.

    Hi David,
Thank you for your detailed question. It sounds like the real issue is pdf files. Are there any antivirus/firewalls that might be blocking this specific file type? or are there any preferences in your control panel that might be blocking this?
Do you have any stored preferences for PDF files in Firefox?

I'm using Vista, 32 bit - not even downloading the beta version of Firefox 4 helps; it downloads (just like the regular version of Firefox, 3.4) and I can install it, but trying to run it gives me nothing - no warning, no text; it just doesn't open up, but is still visible in my start menu, programs folder and in task manager.
