Firefox has become a bloody nightmare!!- what on earth have you done at the update?! how do i stop any 'new' opened tab opening as 'zone alarm'??!!!
I have had to reset my homepage to my regular one (msn.com) as Firefox suddenly put 'zone alarm' into my home page (default ) and also the search bar (instead of Google). I have reset the Google in the search bar, and have reset my homepage to www.msn.com - yet, despite this, every single time a new tab is opened low and behold it opens up as the Zone Alarm home page.
I either need to solve this immediately, or Firefox, you're history on my laptop. Utter trash !!!
Do you have ZoneAlarm software installed?
If that is the case then you need to check this in that software or contact ZA for support.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

OH Apple & SL what on earth have you done!! Airport, DNS, network all hosed
Dear All,
We've been following the various network related posts with interest and i seems we too have now joined the very many posters here who's networks have been totally 'screwed' by Snow Leopard.
Our experiences to date since upgrading:
Airport connection has completely gone. I've given up trying to fix this one. Have followed fellow posters suggestions, deleted configs, new network locations, you name it. It just does not want to know. We keep getting the dreaded 'self assigned IP' message too.
These problems have now spilled over to our wired network> Netgear DGN 2000 router of which is DHCP server, is now giving out very odd DNS addresses, and we're getting the self assigned IP' message on his one too. The only way we can connect to he internet is to plug directly into the router, any network access has been lost. We've been following various suggested solutions posted here all to no avail. Prior to the SL upgrade everything was working flawlessly.
If anyone has any additional suggestions, possible fixes, we'll be extremely grateful, by this whole experience could rapidly be turning into Apple's 'Vista' moment.
Good luck everyone, let's hope there's some update patches posted soon.rack0 tack0 wrote:
There is another thread that seem to confirm that Apple knows about DNS problems with SL so maybe the next update will have the network fixed for most people.
I'd be curious to know what these "DNS problems" you speak of are.
The only one that's biting people is that there is an issue where SL will "round robin" which DNS servers it queries on occasion for unknown reasons.
This is only an issue if your network requires that DNS servers be used in the order provided, for whatever reason.
By this I mean if you had two DNS servers:
foo # My main DNS server
bar # Only use if foo is down - on 56K dialup link!
SL will occasionally decide to direct all queries to "bar" even when "foo" is reachable.
It is, however, arguable as to whether that is a bug or a feature, but it's unexpected behavior at the least. -
What GOOD or NEW things have you noticed after the update?
What good things have you noticed since the update that were not mentioned in the update video?
One or two of these may have been already there, I might just be taking a closer look.
Faster screen switching in Phone mode
Ability to specify ports in email settings
Slightly smoother scrolling in ContactsMore ways to spend money on iTunes. Nothing else. Guess we'll have to wait till OS 10.5 for possible inclusion of any real useful features.

What in the name of Goodness have you done with the full screen picture of Contacts? How dare you just change it without so much as a bye or leave? This is NOT progress but a throwback to about 1997! I supposedly 'updated' to an iPhone two weeks ago. Should have stayed with Samsung I reckon. I am deeply unimpressed!

I had interruption on rented movie when attempt to return to movie , no library and said to go to downloads , guess what no download setting , will not allow repurchase through Apple TV now have to repurchase through iPad *** have you done to the old syst
Thanks for the pointers folks. Yeah, 1.5GB is pretty poor isn't it? There are other suppliers, but you have to get a their phone line installed to access the internet so it's an £85 setup fee plus a day off work for a guy to come round and drill a hole in your wall before you even get to the monthly costs.
Don't get me wrong though - I'm certainly not an Apple basher, but am equally frustrated with both them and the ISP.
Virgin Media spend all kinds of money advertising their broadband as the fastest in the UK, but don't tell you (up front anyway) that you'll be cut off if you actually try and use it.
Apple on the other hand carry on with their 'it just works' mantra, but with Apple TV this only applies if you meet certain criteria (again, not mentioned up front).
I guess it aint a biggie, as i was gifted my Apple TV, and love all the other stuff it does, but from the number of posts on this forum can see that there's a lot of angry customers out there who want explanations as to why they're having similar problems to me.
Will be very interesting to see if Apple release any kind of software update that turns the flash drive from a buffer to permanent storage, to at least ease some of the pain...

Your partitions are also messed up.
I'm guessing here you have "Untitled" as a OS X boot volume and your user data on "My Mac"?
If you keep everything on one partition and all data (users, programs OS X) on the first 50% of the hard drive, it will perform at it's best virtually forever, or until the machine dies of hardware failure.
It's rather easy to defrag once or twice in the life of the machine using the method I have outlined here.
How to safely defrag a Mac's hard drive
Since you might have software and bad sector issues, I suggest you backup user files off the machine (not to TimeMachine, to a regular storage drive) and then (more RAM of course)
Install/upgrade RAM or storage drive in Mac's
and do this + fresh install for optimal Snow Leopard speed on that machine. (ditch the extra partition)
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
For Snow Leopard Speed Freaks
Make sure to use the Disk Utility > Erase with Security > Zero all Data on the hard drive (2 times best), this will map off many bad sectors that are there or have occured due to shock damage and will slow read performance.

My Snow Leopard machine is incredibly fast, even faster than many Macs with later (bloated) OS X versions.
It's because Snow was written to be fast on older 32 bit processors, so it screams on more recent machines. -
After opening Firefox, how do I stop every new window I open from having old tabs?
Whenever I start Firefox, it opens a window with tabs I used from a previous session, which is what I want since I set it on Tools > Options > When Firefox starts. However, whenever I open new windows after I have opened Firefox, it always opens four tabs along with my homepage. I tried deleting the four tabs from history then opening a new window again, but it still opens five tabs in the new window. This started around last week. And I don't think I did anything different. I was just surfing the net as usual.
Check the home page setting.

Firefox has become extremely slow in the recent times
Firefox suddenly has become very slow. It takes too much time to load all websites and even the typed words and scrolling has a great delay in appearing. It becomes unresponsive very often. I tried reinstalling it and even reset it. Its becoming a pain to use this to surf the net. Please do help!!
I also have found that Firefox has become a dog. I've followed one thread that disabled the plugin-container with no help. 20.0.1 can hang for over a minute and actually hog my entire CPU so I can't even start Chrome! I like my FF plug-ins, but the performance problems of FF 20 are becoming intolerable and no one seems to know what the heck! Chrome does not present the problems and I have been visiting and working at the same websites. If many folks are encountering this mess, I suspect that FF is done for. I have actually found that the Android FF is also tending to slow down my smartphone - stall it! I am a few days away from just removing FF from my computing life.

Firefox has become so unstable I have to reload it every time I use it
XULRunner
Error: Platform version _____ is not compatible with minVersion >= 15.0
maxVersion <= 15.0
_____ = 13.0, 14.0 15.0 15.0.1
Regardless of what I do, removing ALL Mozilla Files, Passwords, Preferences etc... there crashes happens and now I am also getting BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH. If you don't know what that is you can't help me anyways. So what is the solution???Did everything you said and when given the option to start Firefox up after install and I declined hoping to be able to copy everything before things got on wonky but sadly they downloaded badly. When I attempted to open Firefox XULRunner Error popped it's ugly head up once again 15.0 is not compatible despite downloaded version 15.0.1 Personally I think Firefox has become so horrible the last 3 patches I may stop trying to use it. IE 9 is slower, has worse navigation but doesn't require restarting my computer every time I download Firefox and use it One Time before it becomes unuseable. This is BullS_ _t.

Firefox has become internet explorer or google chrome, with their icon and everything on my windows XP computer. I cannot uninstall or redownload Firefox without it saying "Firefox must be closed to proceed with the uninstall/install. Please close Firefox to continue." It says that when I dont even have Firefox open, and I closed everything with task manager. How can I get Firefox back? It's the only brower I ever use.
Please try a reboot of your pc and if that doesn't work, try the following:
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
#*'''Windows:'''
#**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
#**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

FIREFOX HAS AGAIN CRASHED.WHEN I WENT TO MOZILLA HELP IT SAID THAT THE REASON FOR THE CRASH WAS "EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION_WRITE".WHAT IS THIS SUPPOSED TO MEAN?I SAW THAT THIS WAS THE REASON FOR EVERY CRASH IN FIREFOX.HOW DO WE MEND IT?
PLEASE HELP.Thank you but there are more important issues going on about my Medical records that are being falsified that I am trying to report and hopefully get help with. I know this isn't the best forum to do this but it is the most secure forum available to me to hopefully get some help with my continuous problem.
Were you able to see the problem of medical record fraud that I have posted in this tread? Thank you for your help. -
Firefox has become slow and bloated.
Since using the add-ons my once elegantly swift Firefox has become nonreactive and the height of the toolbars, bookmarks and the rest takes up too much space over the screen.
It's neither, it's using the "add a keyword for this search" button that appears in the context menu of most in-page search fields. This creates a bookmark with the place in the GET request where the query should be replaced with %s.
I've imported both of those files into my new profile, and the bookmarks do indeed get imported, but the keywords do not, so I can't use them to search. -
i also get a message sometimes that says something is going wrong with a script - i always choose to stop the script - i don't know if its related
the slow closing isn't an every time occurrence but happenes more than 50% of the time - it seems to get worse the longer Firefox has been openMy first reaction is it sounds like you're pocket dialing your passcode? In iOS 6, it used to be you could go Diagnostics & Usage Data under Settings and see if things were crashing on your phone due to bad memory, but don't know if that works in iOS 7.0.4 on the 4s, but that's the first thing I'd look for. (I think crash notifications return in iOS 7.1?)
