Firefox is already running but is not responding... I get this error ten times a day or more!

I love Firefox and don't want to use a different browser, but the error "Firefox is already running but is not responding" is driving me crazy. The reason I get this error is because I frequently use http shortcuts from my desktop or click links from within a thunderbird email. I hope someone has a solution other than "just use bookmarks" or "just end the task". This is a legitimate (and major) bug and should be fixed! Thank you.

Do you have a profile lock file in your profile folder? If so, delete it and see if TB runs properly:

somehow i couldn't get rid of one website called www.searchqu.com/405 set as my homepage... Firefox will be hanging for some reason. The quick solutions to kill the process and try again. The next step is to try to see if it will start and exit normally a couple of times, if so the problem is solved. If not the reason needs further investigation.

Firefox keeps hanging up and freezing. I get this message. "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing--what a mess.

No matter how many times I open and close, firefox hangs up after surfing a few pages. When I look at task master, firefox is using up hundreds of thousands of kb, causing the processor to stall at 100%. I do not have this problem when surfing with IE. I have the latest version of firefox. I never had this problem with version 5. It keeps getting worse with each "update".
