A restore might not even fix it; a fair amount of the time, when the Wi-Fi is grayed out it is a hardware issue.

you have definitely tried the correct steps, all you would need to do now is a back up & restore to factory settings. If after that the issue remains then you would most likely need a replacement unit.

I have the exact same problem trying to use the Remote app on both my iPhone 3gs and iPad 2 with either my Mac or ATV2. It might be an issue with your HD. Run Disk Utility from your installation disk and "Varify" your Macintosh HD to see if there any issues. Hopefully you have a backup of your data.
After runing "Varify" see if Disk Utility's "Repair" can repair the problems if they exist.
If there's nothing wrong with the HD try "Repair disk Permissions"

The error 0x80070005 means access denied. Please make sure you are using Admin account and already runned VS Setup with the option"run as admin".

My step son's phone and my phone are on the same AT&t account. I believe we have the same icloud account, but different apple id's. There have been times where he gets my imessages. I would like to disable this option permanently. What do I have to do?

This is caused by using the same Apple ID for iMessage. To fix it, either:
On one of the phones go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign in with a different ID. (Note: you can continue to share the same ID for purchasing in Settings>iTuens & App Stores. It does not need to be the same as the ID used for iMessage, FaceTime, iCloud or other services); or
On both phones, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, under "You can be reached by iMessage at" uncheck the email address.
If you are also sharing the same iD for FaceTime, on one of the phones you'll want to go to Settings>FaceTime, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a different ID. Otherwise you'll end up getting each other's FaceTime calls.
Finally, just a word of caution that if you share the same iCloud account, any data you sync with the account (such as contacts) will be merged and the merged data will appear on both phone. Also, any action taken on one phone (such as changing, adding or deleting a contact) will take place on both phones. (It's usually best to each have separate iCloud accounts to avoid this.)

You can open Word files in Pages by default without any problem. Select one of the Word files by clicking once on it in Finder. Press cmd-i to Get Info on the file. In the bottom half of the window that opens, is Open with:. Below that click on the drop down box and select Pages.app. Then click on Change All... and confirm the "Are you sure... " warning. Now, all Word files will open in Pages.
