Firefox just sent a notice that it no longer works with Mac OS X 10.5. Is that why my gmail calendar keeps non- or dysfuntioning?

I have been experiencing constant dysfunction in my Gmail calendar on my Mac Mini, but not on any other computer. It happens whether I am using Safari or Firefox.   This morning Firefox sent a notice that is no longer works with Mac OS X 10.  Suggestions?

Your best bet is to get a computer capable of running the latest version of Mac OS X - Mac OS X Mountain Lion (10.8). This is the most secure option and will allow you to run the latest and greatest Firefox.
That is a pretty crazy suggestion just to update a browser! There is another alternative if you are worried about having an unsupported browser.
You can run TenFourFox whose purpose is to support older Macs.

  • Is it true that IE no longer works with MAC OS 10.4.3?

Probably this is a well-known fact and not that I really care about it because I do not use IE on my PB, but today, as part of my system health checkup, I just started up IE (out-of-curiosity) and it came up with the following error message:
The application "Explorer" could not be launched because of a shared library error: ":<MacIE Carbon (Release)><MacIE Carbon (Release)><JNILib>"
So what really happens? Did the upgrade from 10.3.9 to 10.4.3 really destroys some run-time environments for some obsolete applications such as IE?

  • Firefox no longer working with Mac OSX 10.4.11

i'm using Mac OSX 10.4.11 and Firefox 3.6.12. As i understand it any of ur upgrades no longer work with this computer system. ( I tried to upgrade last week and ur site said upgrades no available gfor my platform version. Last week every time i conducted a search (default Google) i was redirected to http://search.creativecommons.org/?q=crossword+puzzles&sourceid=Mozilla-search.what gives? Have I been hijacked? also sites that I use daily are clipped and entire pages are smaller than usual . see www.shockwave.com
If u are no longer supporting Mac users, please let us know in advance or at least post it on ur site. Can no longer use Firefox...

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Cmd+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
(You also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
    Firefox > Preferences > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now")
    (2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:
Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?
If you open about:crashes, you should get links to online crash reports. You could post some of the crash IDs for review by volunteers here.
Given the timing, another issue might be some ads or media in the page. There are some add-ons to block such things...

  • Firefox 18 no longer works with Mac OSX v10.8.2 Mountain Lion

I have been running FireFox v17 with Mountain Lion (OSX 10.8.2) without any issues.
The auto updater from Mozilla requested that I upgrade to FireFox v18, but since installing Mozilla FireFox crashes immediately.
The browser opens but then does nothing. If you enter a URL and enter then nothing happens. It just shows a continuos blank screen.
I wanted to make other Mountain Lion users aware of this problem and wondered if anybody else has had this problem? Please Mozilla, check this bug and offer an update and solution.
I'm using Chrome in the interim, which I really do not like as a developer.

    Hi cor-el,
    Thanks for your advice.
I had already carried out the re-install and restarted the iMac etc.
This has not fixed the issue. When I start Firefox it opens fine but if I type in a URL and press enter then it does nothing. It is as though FF is dead!
I have repeated the steps, exactly as you suggested again, and nothing has changed?
This has never happened before? So I need to continue using Chrome, which I hate, until another solution is found.
    Thank you and regards,
    Sean.

  • Re: Firefox no longer works with Mac OS X 10.5, will upgrading to Lion, OS X 10.7, help with this issue?

I cannot upgrade my Mac to Mountain Lion, OS X 10.8 and cannot buy a new Mac so will upgrading from
OS X 10.5 to OS X 10.7 help with this issue?

If you are going tob e upgrading to 10.7 you should be able to just upgrade, and then install future updates of Firefox with no problem.

  • Firefox 5 won't work with Mac OS 10.4, but I can't afford to upgrade the system; how can I keep using Firefox 4?

This computer is an eMac running the Tiger operating system. Rather than upgrading the entire system, which is costly and time-consuming, is there simply a way to keep using the previous version of Firefox?

Firefox 3.6.28 is the latest version of Firefox that works on 10.4. [[Firefox no longer works with Mac OS X 10.4 or PowerPC processors]] You unfortunately have a PPC processor, so the only way you can use modern software is to purchase a new PC. Or, you can try using [http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/ http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/]. But please note that you will be using a community project that may or may not work.

Follow the steps here. If nothing works, make an appointment at an Apple store or with whoever handles iPhone warranty where you live:

  • IPhone 5 doesn't work with Mac OS 10.5.8 - do I need to ugrade to 10.6 and then upgrade to Mountain Lion or can I just upgrade to Mtn Lion right away?

iPhone 5 doesn't work with Mac OS 10.5.8 - do I need to ugrade to 10.6 and then upgrade to Mountain Lion or can I just upgrade to Mtn Lion right away?

At least to 10.6.8. You must do this to upgrade to Mountain Lion.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

  • When using Firefox as my browser, my "back" button no longer works? And by the way...getting help is a real pain in the butt on this site!!!!!

When using Firefox as my browser, my "back" button no longer works? And by the way...getting help is a real pain in the butt on this site!!!!!

    see -- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Kill_application
which explains how to completely exit (quit) your Mozilla application
    Try closing Firefox completely
*Close Firefox properly '''File > Exit''', not with the "X" which just closes the window.
*Use the Windows Task Manager "Processes" tab to make sure that firefox.exe is not running and also that the plugin-container.exe is not running.
If that does not work, try restarting the system.
If still no luck try restoring bookmarks from last backup, or better create your own .json backup and restore from that.
*''If you had to go this far, please provide feedback if restoring bookmarks alone fixed the problem. I think I may have done that once with success, but never see that suggested -- I'd try most anything to not lose history or bookmarks. But then I could restore files from my profile and restore latest bookmarks backup from current profile.''
The following will result in complete loss of history if it comes down to deleting places.sqlite, so rename files rather than deleting. With Firefox down.
Of course you have backups of your profile you could replace rename and
    replace those files instead.

  • The "new" hotmail no longer works with safari, but works with firefox. Hmm.

The "new" hotmail no longer works with safari, but works with firefox. Hmm. i find this very convenient being a microsoft product. anybody else wonder why this new version happens to not be safari compatible? does anybody know if it works on the PC version of safari? if not, i find this to be a blatant move on microsofts part to bias the safari browser (especially since its basicly new on the window platform). forcing safari/hotmail users to "have" to use another browser to access their hotmail accounts.

I have been successfully using Hotmail and Gmail with Safari for a long time. For roughly the past month, that relationship is rocky at best. At times, one of the following actions suddenly opens Hotmail, but it is a short-lived solution:
    (a) Hotmail directly
    (b) Hotmail Home>Hotmail
    (c) Sign up to Windows Hotmail
    (d) Deletion of prescribed cookies, resetting, etc. - made no difference
Both Firefox and Opera work fine with Hotmail - especially Opera is very fast.
In addition, Safari and Gmail does not work with Attachments, but otherwise Gmail is OK.
I suspect I have to wait for a Safari fix because in my case I do not wish to abandon Hotmail, and Safari is a given. I would think that Safari would want to stay competitive with the two biggies, Hotmail and Gmail, which must have large numbers of users.
I certainly would appreciate any other suggested fixes.

  • I am currently using Firefox Version 1.5.0.12 on my iBook G4 with Mac OS X Version 10.3.9. I have problems using Facebook. What can I do?

I am currently using Firefox Version 1.5.0.12 on my iBook G4 with Mac OS X Version 10.3.9. I have problems using Facebook. I cannot confirm friend requests or view messages in the inbox for instance. What can I do?
== URL of affected sites ==
    http://facebook.com

Firefox 2.0.0.20 is the last ever release for Mac OSX 10.3.9 and earlier versions, but that may not work any better because some large websites are blocking those older browsers or dropping support for older browsers like IE6 & earlier, and Firefox 2 & earlier due to security issues.
Using Safari on those websites ''(not enough total users for websites to be concerned about)'', or installing a new version of MacOSX are two solutions; or getting a new computer.
