1. Right-click the shortcut icon you use to start Firefox.
2. Select Properties.
3. Select the Compatibility icon.
4. Select Run this program in compatibility mode.
5. In the drop-down for compatibility mode, select Windows 98/Windows ME.
6. Click OK.
7. Restart Firefox to see if the hanging has gone away.
'''Hang loading every Firefox window'''
The SwitchProxy Tool extension checks for updates each time a new window is opened. This is a known issue. If you use SwitchProxy Tool, you can disable it to see if hanging is prevented:
1. At the top of the Firefox windowOn the menu bar, click the Tools menu and then select Add-ons. The Add-ons dialog appears.
2. Select the Extensions panel. The list of installed extensions is displayed.
3. Select SwitchProxy Tool.
4. Click Disable.
5. From the menu at the top of the Firefox windowbar, select FileFirefox and then select the ExitQuit FirefoxQuit menu item.
6. Restart Firefox. Open several new windows to see if Firefox no longer hangs.

Firefox locks up when I try to play Pirates Rule on Facebook
Every time I try to play my favorite game "Pirates Rule" on Facebook, Firefox locks up on me and I have to restart my PC to get it to stop. I am not able to close Firefox at all once I try to load Pirates. Any idea for a fix?

Firefox is crashing when I try to download anything.
Whenever I try to download anything, the download window will open up, but then will freeze. This started as an intermittent error, but now appears to be happening every time.
I am running Toshiba T510i Win7 x64 with Sophos Anti-Virus. This same issue does not occur at home when I am using my AMD machine, with Kaspersky.
Both instances have the same addons and themes.
Is anyone else having this issue? When I searched for a resolution, I found a page detailing removal of the downloads.sqlite file. This has not resolved issue. This appears to be known but resolved on a bug report found about it. I have post on the bug report. I will update here if I receive a response. Meanwhile you can try the following:
Hello,
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
[[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
[[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
Thank you. -

We had to download Firefox once we had installed Windows 8. Although we now have a Firefox tile on the new Windows desktop, to enable access to Firefox, whenever we click on it to go to Firefox, we get the option to select Firefox as our default browser. Whether we say Yes or No, the screen then locks up and we have to use Control, Alt and Delete to close it.
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
#Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]] article.

I have tried resting Firefox and even sacrificed all my data (bookmarks, add-ons, saved passwords, the whole shebang) for a clean installation. Firefox Stared hanging and doing the "(Not Responding)" thing with a whited-out window. Thus force me to force close Firefox.
This happened as soon as I updated my computer (running Windows 7) and the Task manager is show high usage of processes. All my other browsers work (Chrome, Safari, and even the god forsaken IE) don't hang when trying to leave the home page, browse fine, and close and reopen perfectly.
Needless to say, I'm annoyed with this development.''Sashoto Seeam [[#answer-689162|said]]''

Did you try the minimize memory usage. If not then try it by following method:
- On your navigation bar of Firefox write about:memory
- Click on the button "Minimize memory usage"
Hope it will work!
</blockquote>
Unfortunately, I can't even use the navigation bar without triggering the high process usage thing. So this is not an option.

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to install for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

DW 8 locks up and crashes when I try to do anything
DW 8 locks up and crashes when I try to do anything to a
file. This started 2 days ago.
When I open a file, and I try to merge table rows, or change
the CSS of some text, or anything, DW 8 locks up and is "not

How do I fix this?Might have to do with the time change.
There is a document on Adobe that goes over what you have to

After Effects locks-up when I try to use preference submenu
I have an issue with After Effects "freezing" or locking up when I try to use any sub-command under the "Preferences" menu. Any guidance fixing this would be greatly appreciated. I have a quad-core Intel PC with 8 gig of memory. The applications are installed on a 2 Tb drive. I don't think memory or space is an issue.
Thanks,
VidmistThat's a weird one. Never heard of such a thing happening before.

The front camera on my iPad locks up when I try to use it.
The front camera on my iPad locks up when I try to use it. The entire camera app locks up until I do a reset in settings. I have done the manual reset as well as a restore and it still locks up. I want to use Facetime and Skype. How do I fix?
If you restored the iPad to factory settings and the camera still locks up, you may have a hardware problem and it may be time to get Apple involved.
If it was just Skyoe, I would suggest deleting the app and reinstalling, but you can't delete FaceTime.
Can you use the camera otherwise - meaning to take photos and videos - front and back facing both work? -
firefox keeps crashing when I try to launch it. I uninstalled the program, but now when I try to download it from your website the download freezes with 1 second left. This has happened several times.
Hello Deb,
Something fishy going on with those particular files. But without looking at them directly I couldn't say what. Usually in a case like this the problem is some of the metadata that is attached to the file. Where did these files come from? A camera, a scanner, the internet?
An explanation about the Watched Folder function: It looks for changes to a folder, not just automatically grabbing whatever files are in it. Generally, you want to select an empty folder as a Watch Folder. Once this has been set up, as you add files to this folder they will be imported into the Organizer. If you start with a folder full of images, those will be ignored, any new items will be added.

My 5th generation Ipod locks up when I try to play a video? I did the factory reset (ugh) and still, total lock up with video. Any suggestions?
If you restored to factory settings/new iPod and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.

Note that your System Details List shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize some prefs on each start of Firefox.
The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created it, so normally it wouldn't be there.
you can check its content with a plain text editor if you didn't create this file yourself.
The user.js file is read each time you start Firefox and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.
