Firefox (Mac Lion)cannot display PDF directly

My firefox on lion cannot display any kind of PDF files. It can recognize the file as PDF, but the whole page is blank, only the titles says: application/pdf object. I use acrobat, I have change the default application to preview and tried using the js extension, but none of them works. Helps! Now I can only right click to download pdf, which sucks. By the way, the windows version works just fine.

"If using a Mac, go to the Firefox Plugins and disable the Adobe Acrobat NPAPI Plug-in, Version 10.1.3. This is a recent plugin update, and as soon as it was installed I noticed that PDFs wouldn't download.

I don't know what other side-effects it can create, but it solved my problem."

  • Cannot Display PDF in Browser

On our enterprise network I have found that suddenly folks cannot display PDF's in the Internet Explorer 7 browser.
The software and versions that are affected are:
    Adobe Acrobat Pro 8.3.3
    Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.3.3
    Adobe Reader 9.3.3
    Troubleshooting steps I have done:
Unchecked the option to Display PDF in Browser and rechecked it/
Completely uninstalled Adobe Pro/Reader has no effect.  This includes deleting all files in c:\program files\Adobe\  and c:\program files\common files\Adobe\Acrobat\
    Rebooting then manually reinstalling.
It behaves the same for Adminstrator accounts.
I have deleted the AcroExch.Document registry key and then repaired Acrobat to replace it.
Not sure what else to try.  Is there a registry fix or could this be set by a Group Policy?  I assumed that if it was a Group Policy then it would just uncheck the 'Display in PDF Browser' option in Adobe preferences.  Even if that IS checked, PDF files still open outside of Internet Explorer.
Also note: we have Internet Explorer 7.   Enable 3rd Party Browser Extensions IS disabled by a Group Policy but I think that only affects the Acrobat Toolbar from being implemented, not displaying PDF in a browser.
Any other helpful suggestions on what to try next would be appreciated.

Found the problem. It was a McAfee Host Intrusion Prevention Policy that was blocking it.  Once that was updated, PDF files could display in IE.

  • I use a Mac and cannot open pdf files in Firefox.

Cannot open pdf, either from websites or attachments to emails. Each time that I try I get this menu of "what to open with" and none of them work.. No problems with Safari.

Found a solution on the Apple community forum. Make sure Adobe isn't enabled as the pdf reader, then go into Macintosh hd/library/internet plugins and delete all pdf plugins. Solved the problem!

  • Content Coding Error in Firefox/Internet Explorer cannot display webpage

I can log into Beehive without any issues. I used to be able to go to Workspaces > All My Workspaces and see all the workspaces I had access to. From this list, I could get to any of these workspaces. Now when I go to the same navigation, I get in 'Content Coding Error' in Firefox 9 and 'Internet Explorer cannot display webpage' in Internet Explorer 7.
If I find an email that invited me to a specific workspace, I can access that workspace only. I cannot find a way to access all workspaces I have access to within Beehive.
Please let me know what other information I need to provide for assistance.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
https://beehiveonline.oracle.com/index.html is a public page with no obvious protection so anyone should be able to see it without any difficulty. If this is the page causing the issue then it suggests a local browser issue.
If you are getting this after logging into https://beehiveonline.oracle.com/teamcollab then it means your account is not provisioned correctly. Contact us out of the forum with your details and we can check out if we have a provisioning issue. I would need your email address and any group you have been invited to be a member of - send it to [email protected]

  • Office mac 2011 cannot open pdf

I cannot open pdf files in office mac 2011.
    Does anyone have any suggestions.

It sounds like you want to be able to modify a PDF in Word.
If that is the case you need a program that will open the PDF and then perform an OCR (Optical Scan Recognition) on it to convert it back to text (PDF is a form of image/graphic file; like a photo taken of how it will print).
Take a look at PDFPen Pro:

    from Smile Software
They also have a more limited featured version for less money:

  • Cannot display pdf form with Adobe Reader 9.1.3

Since the last update of my Reader (last version is 9.1.3), I can't display pdf form in the workspace. I got a blank page.
Is anybody have the same problem?

    -  Go to the registry HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT > Software > Adobe >Acrobat> delete any older version that is older than the one you just updated to make sure it contains only the current one you have for both Acrobat Reader and/or Pro version since it did not removed when you uninstall or update.
    - Also go the installed directory where you installed the Acrobat and delete any folder that contains older version, same here with the registry, it did not remove when you uninstall/update acrobat reader or pro.
The above steps also solve the problem of can not open pdf file within Internet Explorer or browser as well.

  • I use a mac, and cannot open pdf links with firefox 4.0. Is there a fix?

Whenever I go to site that includes a pdf, such as knitting instructions, Firefox takes me to blank page, listed as "done." There was a plugin for the earlier version of Firefox, but it won't work on 4.0. this is really frustrating!!

Found a solution on the Apple community forum. Make sure Adobe isn't enabled as the pdf reader, then go into Macintosh hd/library/internet plugins and delete all pdf plugins. Solved the problem!

  • Firefox Hangs Downloading and Displaying PDF Files

I've had a problem with Firefox for several years where it hangs in the middle of the file when downloading and displaying a PDF file.  Typically it downloads a few hundred kilobytes and then stalls.
Recently I upgraded from Acrobat 8.1 to Acrobat 9.1.  The problem remains.  The problem may not occur on all PDF files.
I suspect the problem is related to the Plug-in, as I just installed the Foxit PDF Reader and Firefox now handles the PDF file without problem.
Any thoughts on how to solve this problem?
    Thanks,  Kent

Thanks for the replies. I don't think I was clear enough with my question.
What I want to be able to do is to click on a PDF file in my Firefox browser and be able to save it as an Adobe PDF file, not a Preview PDF file, in any folder on my computer, rather than just the specified default location for downloads. This way I can save, for example, phone bills in the phone bills folder and bank statements in the bank statements folder without having to save them to the desktop, "Get Info" on each, and change the "Open with:" box from Preview to Adobe Reader.
Fortunately, thanks to Michael's post, I found an add-on from Firefox that allows me to do just that: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/636
Thanks for your help. Now, within my Firefox browser, I can choose whether to view or download PDF files, always in Adobe rather than Preview, and when I save them I get the option to choose the location each and every time.

  • Cannot Display PDF from Documentum in SAP

    Hello Everyone,
We have linked SAP with Documentum to be able to retrieve documents stored in the content server. We made all the setting required in OAC0, OAC2, OAC3. But when we are posting a document against a Purchase Order from documentum and trying to view that PDF from "ME23" it is giving us an error message as shown below:-
"The XML page cannot be displayed
Cannot view XML input using style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again later.
An invalid character was found in text content. Error processing resource 'file:///C:/Documents and Settings/gopal.yarlagad...
But if we go into the "OAOR" I can see the document against the Purchase order. We are not able to figure out the issue regarding this. I would greatly appreciate your help if you can help me in resolving this issue.
    Regards,
    Gopal.

We also had the same issue. It was working prior, and suddenly we can't view .msg file (in CMOD archived storage) in portal as it no longer recognize mime type for this. This must be a new patch from outlook last week. We ended up implementing config change suggested in note 1840170, and add this mime entry in local registry. As per IBM note http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21610741, it looks like there's no other choice but to do it.
We plan to push this entry to all users' computers soon.
    Regards.

  • Since upgrading to Firefox 4 I cannot get PDF files to open in the browser using Acrobat 9.0

I have my Application options set to "Use Adobe Acrobat 9.0 (default)," yet clicking on a pdf link causes the file to be downloaded and opened outside of the browser.
I've checked for missing plug-ins, but that only leads me to a download page for Adobe Reader 10, which should not be necessary since I already have the full version of Acrobat.

In my case it's with .puz files, which are crossword puzzle files used by sites like the New York Times and read by the application AcrossLite. I went into preferences and tried to change the action for the file type from "Save File" to AcrossLite but it would not take. Set it instead to "Always Ask" and then in the dialogue box selected AcrossLite and "always do this" and it gave an unknown error.

  • Firefox 11 not displaying pdfs with Adobe Reader update (MacOS)

Since updating to Adobe Reader 10.1.3, I noticed Firefox 11 does not display PDF files. It just shows a blank screen.
The only workaround I found is disabling the Adobe Acrobat NPAPI Plug-in (ver. 10.1.3) the update installs. Firefox will prompt which application to use.Choosing Preview allows the PDFs to display correctly.
Neither Chrome or Safari exhibit this behavior, nor does Firefox 11 (Windows) with the update installed.
    Has anyone else experienced this?

I've found another workaround to this problem. If you open Firefox 11 in 32-bit mode, it will be able to display PDF files.
To open Firefox in 32-bit mode, quit Firefox, go to the Applications folder, right-click on Firefox and click on "Get Info".
Then, under General, you should see a checkbox where you can have Firefox open in 32-bit. Close this window and restart Firefox and you should be good to go.

  • How to display PDF on each device

We observed some mobile devices don't open the PDF directly and start to download.
Does this depend on OS, Browser or something else?
    We tested iPhone and Android.
Android starts to dawnload PDF by clicking PDF on our application. User has to open the PDF after downloading.
iPhone opens the PDF directly by clicking PDF on our application.
We would like to ristrict to use our application if user cannot open PDF directly.
Please advise how we can get this kind of information.

    Thank you for your reply.
    I tested with below conbinations.
iPhone and Chrome, the result is PDF is not opened.
iPhone and Safari, the PDF shows Preview screen.
Android and firefox, the PDF is downloaded.
I would like to get the infromation about the behaivour of PDF on smart phone with various combinations such as OS and Brower, and then each version of OS and Browser.
I am very sorry but I cannot speak English well.
I am not sure whether I can tell what I would like to know.
If somebody can answer in Japanese, it is also very helpful me.
Of cource I will try to understand if it is written in English.
    Thank you.

Are you testing what the behavior is from within the browser on the device? If so, then yes, iOS and Android behave differently.
On Android browsers will download the file to the /mnt/sdcard/Downloads folder, and also post a notification to the system notification tray. If the user taps the notification, it will trigger the "open in" behavior. The user can also open their download manager to see the downloaded files, or on devices that have file browsers, they can open that to find the file.
In the Android Email apps I've used, the user can tap the attachment to download it, then tap a "view" button to view it from directly within the application.
On iOS, the browser will show a 'preview' of the PDF, with the option to "Open In..." in the top toolbar. There is a similar behavior for the Email apps...you tap the attachment to initiate a download, then tap it to open the preview, which contains the "Open In..." button.
These are behaviors of how the browser and OS behave. If you have your own custom installed application, you can do things differently, but I'm not sure quite exactly what your goal is from this posting.
