Firefox much slower connecting to all web sites than Internet Explorer. Why?

Over the last few weeks, Firefox has become much slower connecting to virtually all web sites that I frequent than does Internet Explorer. Nothing has changed on my computer other than occasional downloads of Firefox "improvements".

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Why is FireFox so slow to initially load web sites, and then works fine?

The last two updates on FireFox, on my Windows 7 64-bit computer, is very, very slow to connect to web sites (20-30 or more minutes.) Once it does, it works fine. It loads quickly from the cache, and it seems to actually connect to some web sites in the first few seconds before the delay begins. The computer has no malware; using Windows firewall; virus software disabled without solving the problem; using Windows Defender. Other computers on the same home network are having no problems with FireFox.

The default of the pref network.http.max-connections has been increased from 30 to 256 in Firefox 6+ versions.
Try to decrease the value of the pref <b>network.http.max-connections</b> from 256 to 30 as used in Firefox 3 versions.

  • Why do I sometimes get connected to different web site than link specified and if I go BACK and try again, it works correctly?

This happens infrequently, but sometimes I get connected to a web site that has a Trojan. If I go back and try it again, I get the correct site. I know this happens from the Yahoo site, but it also happens from other sites.

Incorrectly configured server. i.e. missing intermediate chain certificate. IE can download automatically, but Mozilla can't, hence the cert error. As far as why it randomly decides it is valid sometimes prior to you try to add a security exception I don't know.

  • Firefox wont load background image on some sites but internet explore will load the background

i downloaded firefox awhile ago worked perfectly fine then all a sudden it wont load facebook background images the homepage of facebook loads background image but when i log in it wont load background image but when i try internet explorer it loads the background images fine i checked every setting redownloaded everyhing nothing fix's it tho

If images are missing then check that you aren't blocking images from some domains (e,g, sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net).
*Check the permissions for the domain in the current tab in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"
*Check that images are enabled: Tools > Options > Content: [X] Load images automatically
*Check the exceptions in "Tools > Options > Content: Load Images > Exceptions"
*Check the "Tools > Page Info > Media" tab for blocked images (scroll through all the images with the cursor Down key).
If an image in the list is grayed and there is a check-mark in the box "<i>Block Images from...</i>" then remove that mark to unblock the images from that domain.
Make sure that you do not block third-party images, the permissions.default.images pref should be 1.
There are also extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) and security software (firewall, anti-virus) that can block images.
Make sure that you allow pages to choose their colors and that you haven't enabled High Contrast in the Accessibility settings.
*Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Colors : [X] "Allow pages to choose their own colors, instead of my selections above"

  • Firefox will not connect to another web site and it will not reopen after I close it.

I have removed Firefox and reinstalled it. I have tried to disable addons but it still will not open unless I reboot my computer. If this problem cannot be fixed easly, I will have to remove Firefox for good. When it is open, it will not connect to any URL I enter. When I close it it will not reopen and I get a message that says I have to restart Windows. This bug needs to be fixed. It worked one day and the next day it would not work.

  • Firefox loads slower than internet explorer- WHY?

It takes twice as long to load Firefox. I took it to Best Buy to check out. They couldn't figure out. No virus.

Firefox needs longer to startup than IE. IE is part of Windows and large parts are already loaded if Windows is started. Firefox uses XUL and JavaScript code that needs to be loaded and compile on startup and that takes longer. That is what makes Firefox configurable by extensions makers and proficient users.
How long does it take for Firefox to start?
A few seconds (less that 20) is quite normal for the first start, especially if you have a lot of bookmarks or history or extensions. A subsequent start should be much faster with all the files in the disk cache. There is also security software that can monitor disk access of Firefox to strictly and cause extra delays in starting.

  • Can't connect to specific Web site

I was able to access all Web sites using PCs attached to a WRT54GS (wired and wireless). Then, when nothing seemingly changed in my setup, I could no longer access a specific site with either wired or wireless. It is a site I access frequently (an ecommerce site that I maintain). Once the problem was seen on one PC, it is seen on all PCs using the router. It is a domain that I have registered, but I am not hosting it myself. Others have no problem accessing this web site.
I was able to reset the WRT54GS a couple of times (not just power cycling) to get rid of this problem, but eventually, the problem was no longer corrected by a reset. I also upgraded to the latest firmware, and it did not help. I tried removing the router and connecting a PC directly to my cable modem. I could access the site just fine this way.
I tried a different router (BEFSR41), and everything worked fine for a few days. Then the same problem started happening again. Resetting the BEFSR41 also stopped fixing the problem after a couple of tries. Again, hooking an individual PC directly to the cable modem worked fine.
I then tried a second WRT54GS router. For several days, there were no problems. But eventually, the site was not accessible again. I have found no other sites that I could not access. I have borrowed a non-Linksys wireless router for over a month now, and the problem has not been seen.
My question is why do three different Linksys routers (2 WRT54GS and 1 BEFSR41) no longer allow me to connect to a specific Web site? Is there anything I can do to fix this problem?

I had the same problem, and I finally solved it through DNS refreshing.
After MTU manipulation left me nowhere, I tried ye olde:
    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /flushdns
    ipconfig /renew
...with no success.  I then looked over the ipconfig options, and decided to try:
    ipconfig /registerdns
    ...which finally worked!
So much for twelve hours of my life.

  • I can't connect to a web site via the site's own WiFi.

This is a strange one. When I'm in the New York Public Library and connected to the internet via their WiFi I can connect to any web site EXCEPT the New York Public Library's! (www.nypl.org) It tries connecting then times out every time. I can connect to the NYPL's site when I'm not there from home or other WiFis public or private, and when there I can connect to it on my iPhone, but not from my computer with either Firefox or Safari. Other people with Macs can access the site from there and I went over my settings with one of them but could find no differences.
I'm using 10.5.7 and have the latest updates for Firefox and Safari and the latest updates for OSX. What's frustrating is that when I'm at the library doing research there are databases one can only access from there, not from outside, so it's a very odd situation. Using iPhone for such a reason is quite impractical, too so I'd appreciate any help anyone can offer. I'm sure it's a setting somewhere in my network prefs or something but I'm baffled as to what it might be - has anyone else ever run across something similar?
    Thank you!

I am hear at the New York Public Library now. I am connected to the internet on their WiFi but still cannot get to their site at the address http://www.nypl.org , it times out. I pinged them with this result:
    Ping has started ...
ping: cannot resolve http://www.nypl.org: Unknown host
I tried "lookup" with the following result:

My Mac will not automatically connect to a web site when I double click.  The Icon blinks but nothing happens.  This happened once before but I don't recall how it was fixed.  I can often (but not always) open the site by using "open with Safari.app(default)
