Firefox opens last website after closing not my homepage

Firefox 4 opens the last site I was on instead of my homepage.

That was my first port of call.
The Startup is set to "My Home Page"
which is "http://uk.yahoo.com/"
but that doesn't happen. Even tried to set to "Show a blank page" still shows ;last page I was on.
Works fine on another machine running firefox 3.6.8

  • Firefox 5 keeps downloading after closing

Firefox 5 continues downloading after closing it. For example, in youtube after watching a video I close the tab. But, still my network monitor showing some thing is downloading. Then I used TCPview provided by microsoft to see who is using the bandwidth. And I see that firefox is downloading something. This is a very big problem. Please solve it fast...

  • FireFox remembering last website state, even after restarting, clearing history, cookies, cache etc. No other does this (IE,Chrome,Opera...)

On the website, after 3-4 login attempts and an error message appears. You cannot retry unless you exit out of the browser(s) completely.
I closed all FireFox browsers, opened a new browser and cleared Recent History will all checked. Closed the browser and restarted the browser again. Going to the website, the error message page is displayed and not the login page.
With IE (also Chrome and Opera), after closing all the browser window(s) and restart browser and then go the website, I get to the login page, not the error message page.
It sounds like FireFox is keeping something around (even after clearing everything out) and the website is remembering you in some way.

-> Tap '''ALT''' key or press '''F10''' to show the Menu Bar
-> go to Help Menu -> select '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled'''
Firefox will close then it will open up with just basic Firefox. Now do this:
-> go to View Menu -> Toolbars -> unselect All Unwanted/Incompatible Toolbars
-> go to Tools Menu -> Clear Recent History -> '''Time range to clear: select "EVERYTHING"''' -> click Details (small arrow) button -> place Checkmarks on ALL Options -> click '''Clear Now'''
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> General -> '''When Firefox starts : select "Show My Home Page"''' and click '''Reset to Default''' button
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Privacy -> History section -> '''Firefox will: select "Remember History"'''
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Security -> place Checkmarks on:
    1) Warn me when sites try to install add-ons 2) Block reported attack sites 3) Block reported web forgeries
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Advanced -> General -> Remove Checkmark from '''Warn me when websites try to redirect or reload the page'''
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Advanced -> Network -> Offline Storage (Cache): click '''Clear Now''' button
-> Click OK on Options window
    -> go to Tools Menu -> Add-ons -> Extensions section -> REMOVE All Unwanted/Suspicious/Incompatible Extensions (Add-ons)
-> go to Tools Menu -> Add-ons -> Appearance section -> REMOVE All Unwanted/Suspicious/Incompatible Themes (Persona)
    -> Restart Firefox
You can enable your Known & Trustworthy Add-ons and Themes later. Check and tell if its working.

  • Why does Firefox keep me logged into websites after closing and reopening the browser?

As of today, Firefox has been behaving differently. Namely, when I close Firefox and reopen, I am still logged in to email and other sites. I have all of my privacy settings checked, such as clear history, offline data, form history, etc etc so that they all will be deleted upon closing but this has no effect. Can someone provide insight as to why this is happening and how I can correct it? Before today, after closing and reopening the browser I was required to log in to any sites requiring UN and PW.
I have rechecked all history deletion options to make sure all the appropriate ones were selected. Yesterday, I noticed inbox.com and a program called 24x7 Help were installed on the computer, without my knowledge. I promptly uninstalled them, but I'm not sure if they could somehow be responsible for the odd behavior.

Such a behavior indicates that you keep the cookie(s) that verify that you are logged on to a web server.
Are you using session restore to open those tabs automatically?
    * Tools > Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"
You can set the <b>browser.sessionstore.privacy_level</b> pref to 2 (never) or 1 (non-HTTPS, default in Firefox 3 versions) on the <b>about:config</b> page to disable saving cookies via session restore.
You can change the browser.sessionstore.privacy_level_deferred pref that is used when you do not reopen the previous session automatically via "Show my windows and tabs from last time".

  • Firefox stops loading websites after a while

Unfortunately I can't narrow down the problem very much. Firefox just stops loading websites after a while without any obvious reasons - while Chrome or IE work, so it's not a connection problem AND I have it on at least 2 PCs. This is my environment:
Windows 7 x64 Ultimate and Pro, all important updates installed. Both PCs have 8-16 GB RAM, SSD - can't be a resource issue.
Actual version of Kaspersky Internet Security is used, Firefox is not blocked.
    Firefox version 37.0.1
Some FF AddOns in use: AdBlock Edge, BetterPrivacy, ColorZilla, Firebug, Flashblock, Ghostery, Web Developer
I'm certain I don't have a virus and the issue is present on a brand new installed system as well. I don't use a proxy, DNS prefetching is disabled and IPv6, too.
It seems to happen more often when the PC hasn't been touched for 20 minutes or so (PC is not falling asleep) and after sleep modes, however it also happens just in the middle of working. I usually have 10-20 pages open (resource friendly ones usually) at once.
This also happens for websites that are already loaded. A click on reload also leads to a can't load website error.
I can't exactly say when this issue started, probably in the last 6 month with some FF update. Before it worked fine. This is becoming a real issue for me because FF becoming very unreliable.
Does anyone else experience this behaviour or has a fix for it?
NB: you may want to check the compatibility of your "None of these solve my problem" button. It might be a Chrome (41.0.2272.118m) issue but if someone's FF is not working and he's trying to find help using another browser...it might be a dead end (nothing happens on click).
    Example: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/new/deskto/other?search=can%27t+load+websites+after+while#summarize-question

Does Firefox work normally again after exiting it and starting it backup again?
Several users reported with Firefox 36 that Firefox would eventually not be able to load more pages. One believed that Firefox was no longer sending DNS requests, which is a prerequisite to being able to connect to the web server. I don't recall that we identified the source of the problem, but in many cases, it was "something" in the settings folder.
Along those lines, could you conduct this test:
    '''Create a new Firefox profile'''
''This is in addition to and does not replace your existing settings.''
A new profile will have your system-installed plugins (e.g., Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions, or other customizations. It also should come with completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.
Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using Start > search box (or Run) -- type or paste the following and press Enter:
    firefox.exe -P
    ''Don't delete anything here.''
Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.
Click the Create Profile button, assign a name like April7, and ignore the option to change the folder location. Then start Firefox in the new profile you created.
It might take a while to determine whether the new profile is works better than your old one. If you want to import your bookmarks from your regular profile during that time, here's how:
You can use the Library dialog (Ctrl+Shift+b or "Show All Bookmarks") to access the Restore feature. The trick is knowing where to find your bookmark backups in your regular profile. After clicking Choose File... you can paste this into the file name space and press Enter to drill down to your profile folders:
    %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
The semi-randomly-named folder that has your last backup is usually the one ending with "default". Click into that one, then into the '''bookmarkbackups''' folder. Here you can pick the most recently updated file to restore.
Important: restoring a bookmark backup wipes any bookmarks currently in your active Firefox profile and replaces it with the contents of the backup file.
I think it's also reasonable to install AdBlock Plus and Web Developer, as those, by themselves, are unlikely to be the source of this seemingly rare problem. But I wouldn't add all your extensions at once to the new profile.

  • Why won't firefox open up again after i completly close it?

When I close completely out of Firefox, then later try re-opening it, it won't open. It acts like it wants to open but will not. The only other way to use Firefox after closing out of it, is by shutting my computer down completely. How else can this be fix? When i go to update Firefox, it says that the program is in use and cannot update till i close out of it, but I already closed out of Firefox... Whats going on? My Firefox version is 3.5.16, and my system is Windows 7.

  • Firefox tabs hang around after closing them

When I have multiple tabs open, and I close a tab, the tab browser still shows the page of the closed tab, while the tab is removed from the tab bar. The only way of changing the view is to navigate to the next tab. If there is a flash playing on the page, it continues to play until it's finished, even after you navigate to the next tab.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== July 17, 2010. After watching a video on screencastslonline.com, I noticed this as an issue. See full link below.

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.
Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox profile folder.
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Open Directory)
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Multiple_profile_files_created
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them).

  • Firefox opens only on taskbar-will not open on desktop

after uninstalling and reinstalling on windows 8,firefox still only opens on the taskbar where I can view it in thumbnail but when I click on the taskbar firefox icon it will not open up to full desktop view. I know it is open because I can hover over taskbar icon and thumbnail view appears.

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • When i use any shortcut to access a website, firefox opens google website. how to correct?

suddenly, about 3 days ago, any time i click on a desktop shortcut to a website, firefox opens a google homepage. the only way i can use firefox to access web sites is to type a url into the address bar on the google page. all of my desktop shortcuts now open to google home page.
major problem is that desktop shortcuts don't show url until firefox opens to the webpage.
so unless i know the url and can type it into google homepage address bar, i can't access
any of the shortcuts on my desk top.

Glad to hear it. Every once in a while scan again. Say once a month or so.
As you saw from the reports, one scanner picked up where another did
not. So use two or three scanners. Happy Computing.

  • Unchecking  'Open "safe files after downloading' not working

After unchecking "Open 'safe files after downloading'", files open anyway and do not download to the specified directory (Safari 2.0.4). Instead, I am forced to preview them, and have to manually save. I had this option unchecked on my Powerbook G4 (Safari 1.3.2), and it worked without problems. Any suggestions?

I'm geussing you're using Safari as your internet browser? Try Firefox as a browser. It will allow you to view PDF documents in the browser itself, without downloading the document to your Download folder and it doesn't require Adobe to do so.

  • I noticed after switching from IE9 to Firefox that some website videos will not play. How is this corrected?

I sometimes want to look at how-to videos. Some play and some do not in Firefox. When a message does come up on the screen it says someting like 'sorry, but the video will not play...do you wish to download the plugin?'. Because I am very catious about what I download, I am not confident about downloading a plugin. Does anyone know what I need for Firefox to play all website videos?
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I am adding this to my original question:
I see that quick-time is an available plugin...Is this soething that will work?

    Thank you

You're welcome. Glad I was able to help you.

  • I can't begin to describe this, firefox opens to websites and I don't know why

PLEASE HELP I never had issues with this browser which I use almost exclusively. Now over the past week, I am having nothing but.
I have windows 7 pro 64 bit. Once again, I uninstalled and reinstalled firefox after it seemed to be going haywire. I set how I want it to look, and I want the toolbar to show, the "file, edit etc." and I usually don't have problems finding how to do that.
But yesterday those vanished, and I use them too much and I don't know what happened.
So after I uninstalled and re-stalled, that took care of it.
HOWEVER now this browser when I open it, I open a new tab, which should bring a blank page, it goes to the last site I was. I did not set it to do that.
    1) Does anyone know how to stop that?
    2) It does open to the home page IF I click on firefox, but a new tab should bring just that.
Why is this happening? That is my second question. Can anyone remotely be tampering with this?
How would that happen, if so, and how to I guard against it?
I DO NOT let this save passwords. I don't let any browser do that.
Last, my email on my phone worked just fine until Friday morning, the last time it synched.
Now I can't get emails on my phone because it says "password changed" -- what the f****? I didn't change anything, I am getting my emails on my notebook just fine, I have a pin on my phone so I can't fathom what is happening. This NEVER happened with my windows phone. I put in the password, and that was that. No issues.
That strays from Firefox, but it is an overall cause of problems of changes etc. that are making me very concerned. Yes I have macafee security.
LAST if someone had remote access, such as a tech with a company, and you end the access can the remote access ON THEIR END be re-connected?
THANK YOU SO MUCH in advance for help with firefox issue, and any insight on the others.
    Gina

    Hey Gina,
Change all your passwords, this will stop the remote access if there are any. Also check to make sure there are no third party apps managing your passwords. Also please contact the tech support for the phone for more technical help on that issue :-)
I also understand that the customization is not staying. [[Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars]]
Did this happen when you synced last? Also are there more than one device with different Customized ui settings?
Change the settings back from open "pages from last time" to the other homepage: [[How to set the home page]] or if this happened after you attached another device to the sync account, uncheck Preferences from the sync settings.
