Firefox will not connect or open. Mac OS 10.6.8. I was working with many open tabs when Firefox stopped working. Now it won't connect. I have uninstalled and downloaded it several times.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

My points above lay out the problem and I get messages telling me it can't find the files....Why is it not working when it did just fine right up until you came out with version 4???

If the same, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear and again when you log in. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don’t do them all at once.

Try this:
Go to command prompt (in windows XP, START/All Programs/Accessories/Command Prompt)
Type in following:
Netsh winsock reset
Hit "Enter" key. Restart computer.
Now check & see if iTunes stores is back to normal.
If not, try temporary uninstall your Security software & see if it works. -

Restart your PC. after the PC restarts, bring up your Task manager, and go to the "Processes" tab. Click "Image name" to sort the processes alphabetically.
Now try to launch iTunes.
Does an itunes.exe process appear? If so, does it vanish after a second or so, or does it persist in the Processes tab (even though iTunes itself never shows up)? -
I am usually pretty good in solving my own problems, but this is one is taking me back. My computer and itunes will not reconize my ipod. Itunes is telling me that I need to restore it factory settings. When I try to dwnloads and extracts then it stops or freezes and I get error codes 42408 or ? error 14. I have contacted apple support and followed the steps to uninstall itunes on my laptop, and then reinstalled itunes from the apple website. and when i connect my iphone to my computer it states that it cannot sync due to it not being the 64-bit version. I have done this at least 3 times now and it still won't connect. I am beyond frustrated. Granted, I use a PC for itunes as opposed to a Mac. However, I have never experienced this many problems and difficulties in the past. I have been use an ipod or iphone for at least 10 years.
First, plug off your iPod.
Then uninstall iTunes + all of Apple services (google them).
Restart the PC.
Install iTunes.
If that doesn't help, try this:

I recently tried to update iTunes to 11.1, and am now getting an error message "This application has failed to start because MSVCR80.dll was not found. Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

Assuming you have windows, try uninstalling iTunes and all of its components as by following this guide exactly: Windows XP or Windows Vista/7, then reinstall iTunes. You must follow this guide exactly or it will not be successful. Note: uninstalling iTunes will only remove the application; it will not touch your iTunes library or data.
