Firefox won't forget passwords on restart in v. 23

I recently allowed my XP SP3 computer to upgrade from v16 to v23 (most recent beta version that Firefox forces you to have). Now, all passwords are remembered despite what I have set for them.
In all previous versions, if I did not choose to Remember Password, then Firefox would not - I did not have to set an exception. On restart, I would just have to log in again. Now after having upgraded, I cannot get Firefox to stop remembering my passwords after restart. I have cleared all cookies and cache. I have even set the exception, but it still just logs me in to my gmail and facebook.
What is wrong with the newer versions of Firefox that you can't just chose to not remember the passwords and it won't?

Sorry - I accidentally chose your answer as the solution, when I don't think it is. While what you say makes sense, I never had this problem with older versions. Once you restart Firefox, it is supposed to start a new session, even if you open the previous tabs from the last one. That is what is going wrong in this version. I should be able to restart FF, and it start a new session with previous tabs, but maybe it is not starting a new session.

Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox?
There is a difference between remembering the name and password in the Password Manager and a "remember me" check box on a web page.
The latter usually involves the creation of a special "remember me" cookie that is stored on your computer and that is send to the server.
If that "remember me" cookie is removed or gets corrupted or is not send to the server then the server won't remember you and you need to sign in once again.

* In [[Private Browsing]] mode all cookies are session cookies that expire if that session is ended, so websites won't remember you.
* Do not use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences"
Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.

• Firefox won't sync passwords between computers

Hello,
I recently got a new desktop computer and would like to move my Firefox data from my laptop. Using sync, I have successfully transferred my bookmarks. However, my passwords are not syncing.
I do not have a master password enabled and I have clicked the option to sync passwords on both devices. When I use the Options menu to view my saved passwords on both computers, I can definitely see that the many passwords I have saved on the laptop have not made it over to the desktop. I have tried restarting Firefox on both devices. I do also have the latest version of Firefox on both.

and what really pissed me off was he said that he would make sure that all my information would copy and paste over to the new firefox.. yeah NOT, I'm having to go back and add all my tabs/websites. what I do love about Firefox is the pinning of tabs and remembers passwords/information. again Thanks

• Firefox won't open until I restart my computer, and will not open links once it is open.

When I click the icon to open Firefox, it shows the little loading circle for a second or two, but then does nothing. Other browsers work fine on my computer, but when this happens I have to restart my computer and then it will open until the next time I log in to my computer. Also, when Firefox does finally open, it won't allow me to click on certain links within a website. It shows the hand cursor over the link, but when you click on it nothing happens and it will not open. I have tried doing a system restore, uninstalling Firefox and reinstalling it, all kinds of troubleshooting, and still nothing has worked. I love Firefox, but if this keeps happening I will have to stop using it altogether.

When you uninstall firefox, do you go to the control panel and in C:/ProgramFiles/(delete mozilla firefox)? Or only one of the two options?Try.

• Firefox won't save passwords; reminder option does not come up... on two different PCs in two different homes.

Both PCs: XP PRO SP3; Seagate Barracuda HDs, routine environment for both, no games, Microsoft Office, Quicken, stuff like that. One is an ABIT 2.2 GHz clone; other is Compaq EVO 1.7GHz DT.... boring, boring, boring but both 3.50+ FF installations do same thing - Won't offer to save logons and PWs. Have done ALL, repeat ALL the usual TOOLS|OPTIONS stuff. Nothing, NADA, ZIP. Please help - suspect registry? - ABSOLUTELY!

* Make sure that you not run Firefox in [[Private Browsing]] mode
* In Private Browsing mode some menu items are disabled (grayed) and features like visited links are disabled and not showing
* You are in Private Browsing mode if you see "Tools > Stop Private Browsing", possibly grayed
* You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
* To see all History settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history

• SAVING ISSUES!!! Firefox won't save passwords, won't ask to save them. I've used this for 2 years +. I know where the settings are. New comp, Windows 7, Ffx 4. Prompted to save the password 5 times and stopped

The settings are all correct. New machine. Only has the operating system and Firefox. No conflicting programs. It did 5 then stopped. Nothing has been added or changed since downloading FF.

Same issue here. I am '''NOT '''running in Private Browsing mode.
This may be an issue related to other add-ons, or not. I tried the remember-password bookmarklet with one site and it Worked! But when I looked in the saved passwords, the new userid and password were not there. I waited a few minutes and looked again, and mysteriously, it was there. Perhaps a caching issue. Exceptions box is empty.
I think this in an important issue that must be tracked and not assumed is always an operator-error.

• Mac Mail won't forget password 10.8.5, Mac Mail won't forget password 10.8.5

Two of my co-workers updated their iMacs to 10.8.5 this week and now they can't set up Mac Mail in a way where it won't remember their password. They tried deleting it from the password field but it always reappears even after hitting save in account preferences. These are single user machines. They are, however, in a busy office and they would like it so no one can get new mail or send mail from their macs when they step away from their machines in the time it takes for the screensaver to kick in.

Eric, thanks again.
The problem seems to be that the moment I key the mail passwords in, they are stored in the Keychain Access.
I have again deleted them from Keychain Access and when I do that they are also deleted simultaneously from Mail/Preferences/Accounts and System Preferences/Mail, Contacts & Calendars. Thus each box in the Mail application is definitely empty ie without a password.
This locked me out of getting mail completely as I could not get email from any of my 4 POP accounts.
I put the pop mail password back into the box in System Preferences/Mail, Contacts & Calendars and it appears automatically in Keychain Acess but not in Mail Preferences. Mail then asks me for the password to get pop mail, I key it in and then Mail continues to remember the password, which is exactly what I don't want.
This is really confusing.
Perhaps the question is really how to stop the Mail application from accessing the Keychain Acess application or how to stop a password that is keyed in being added to the Keychain Access.

• Firefox won't save passwords when I click to do so, only "not now" works

• Firefox won't open after restart

After I updated Firefox, it will work until I restart my computer. Then it simply won't open at all and will eventually come up with a blank window that doesn't respond. I've had this issue for months and have simply switched to Google Chrome because I didn't have the time to deal with it anymore. I'm not a novice user and I've tried everything:
It won't start in safe mode.
I've done a complete clean install, even deleting the profile information.
I've checked my firewall and my antivirus programs, and they're not the culprit.
I've fully scanned my computer for viruses/malware.
My computer is completely up to date.
I don't really know what else to do. It will only work on a fresh install before I restart my computer. There are no crash reports I can give because it's not crashing..It simply won't open. I'm running Windows 7 on a Thinkpad Edge.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
*Firefox 22.0: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
*(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

I have told Firefox to remember the password(s) I use on many different websites. It never remembers any of them. Is there a fix for this? I am using Firefox 4.0.1 and Windows 7.

Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox?
If Firefox doesn't offer to store passwords in the Password Manager then check that you aren't running Firefox in [[Private Browsing]] mode.

• I cannot sign into iCloud on my iMac. I have read all of the help information, but that isn't working. I cannot do anything with my system preferences - like add a new printer - because it won't log me in, sign me out, forget password doesn't work, etc.

I have been unable to log in to iCloud on my iMac. None of the hints online have worked. I can't sign in (with any password), sign out, the forget password doesn't work, the support button doesn't work. It's locked. I can't find anyway to fix this - I need to add a new printer ASAP - help!!!

The "Mail, Contacts & Calendars" window popped up a couple of weeks ago and is asking for my Apple ID password, which it will not accept, It won't sign me out (I am not logged in), the support or forgot password buttons won't work. With this window stuck open, I cannot access anything on system preferences. I can't find any way to make it go away. I have tried both my current and old Apple ID passwords, tried using FaceTime to login with the newer password, etc.

• What does nsAppShell: Event Window mean? Firefox won't open for me at times and I need to restart.

When I return to my computer, Firefox won't open from the "standby" mode. It gives me the message saying "Firefox is already running, but not responding" and I need to log out or restart. Firefox is not running as far as I know. When I restart, a message comes up asking if I want to close "nsAppShell: Event Window". Once I end this process, it restarts my computer and everything is fine. This is very frustrating and happens all the time. What is "nsAppShell: Event Window"?

The OP asked this question 9 months ago and 850 other people have this problem. Why hasn't Firefox Support answered this question or commented?

• Firefox interfers with my bank and won't allow password or ID to be accepted .Why?

When I login to my account, it asks for my id and password. Firefox won't permit the id and password to be used. This happened before and I was lucky enough to talk to a real person, and he was able to fix it. However, Firefox has no business messing with ID's or passwords provided to banking organizations. For your information, I was able to go to Safari and complete my business.
