I'm not sure what you mean by "the + box". Is that a feature on one of your toolbars?

On a Mac I want to use Preview as default to read PDF's, and Firefox won't let me use anything but Adobe Reader. How to change?

It had been working properly until recently. I have tried the usual setting in firefox>preferences>applications. It accepts Preview as default, but uses Adobe anyway. If I set it to Ask, it does ask me, and when I tell it to use Preview it uses Adobe.
Desired default operation is download PDF's and open with Preview.

The file that stores your preferences for how to open downloads is named mimeTypes.rdf. Since it has a somewhat inscrutable format, the usual remedy is to rename it and have Firefox generate a new one.
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show in Finder" button
Leaving Finder open, switch back to Firefox and Quit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename '''mimeTypes.rdf''' to something like mimeTypes.old
Restart Firefox and reselect your preference. Any improvement?

If I update firefox to the new version 18 and then try to use any websites that don't have anything to do with firefox it says "Problem loading screen" and it does the same with any version past 3.5.14 exept if I update to version 3.6.24 then all the screens are just white and at the bottom it says "Updating Add: Codec-V".

Firefox won't let me use the shift key

Hi
Basically when I try and use the shift key I keep getting this bar come up on the bottom of my screen and begins typing my text in there. Even when I close the bar and press the shift key again it still appears; I'm not sure how I can stop it from happening or how to disable it. It's getting frustrating not being able to type properly- I have to use the caps lock key for capitals.
Can someone please help me out?

hello Sab01, your screenshot shows the firefox developer toolbar which can be brought up with the keyboard shortcut shift+f2. so this is just a guess, but maybe your keyboard's f2 key is hanging...
in case you cannot solve it that way, please enter '''about:config''' into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named '''devtools.toolbar.enabled''' - double-click the entry and toggle its value to '''false'''. this will generally disable the developer toolbar after you restart the browser.

Firefox won't let me play any videos (youtube, hulu, or otherwise)

Yesterday Firefox stopped loading videos. At first I thought I had been blocked by google because I used download helper to rip audio from a bunch of videos (lectures, not illegal downloads). But then I noticed Hulu wouldn't load and even facebook's video player wasn't working. I tried viewing videos on chrome and it worked fine.
I cleared the cache on firefox, ensured I had the latest version of flash and firefox, but that didn't help.
Eventually I uninstalled firefox and reinstalled it and that seemed to help, but then this morning I started getting the same error again.
Any ideas?

IE and Google Chrome come with their own versions of the flash plugin, but Firefox uses a different version.
You can also try steps these for issues with the current Flash plugin:
*disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
*disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later
*disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

Firefox won't let me watch any type of video or listen to any audio

It started around the time I downloaded Google Chrome, but I'm not sure if they had anything to do with each other. Videos and Audio don't work on any site for me- I live in China so I use Youku, Tudou, Soso, Tumblr, and all of these sites used to let me see their videos and listen to audio on firefox but they suddenly just don't. I've tried restarted firefox, reinstalling it, and reinstalling adobe flash player, java script, but nothing seems to work. I know that the videos can work, because they do on Google Chrome, but Google Chrome doesn't have all the plugins I can get on Firefox, and I want to start only using firefox, but I'm unable to do that if all videos and audio refuses to work for me.

Whether it is gmail, Facebook, or more specifically this site (http://www.carnivalentertainment.com/index.htm), Firefox won't let me upload any type of file. Of course, if the Web site offers a standard uploader then I have a better chance of having a successful upload, but if it is not offered, then I am basically out of luck.

No it's not stealing. They have an allowance that you can share with so many computers/devices. You'll have to authorize her computer to play/use anything bought on your acct. You can do this under the Store menu at top when iTunes is open on her computer.
As far as getting it all on her computer....I think but I am not sure (because I don't use the feature) but I think if you turn on Home Sharing in iTunes it may copy the music to her computer. I don't know maybe it just streams it. If nothing else you can sign into your acct on her computer and download it all to her computer from the cloud. Not sure exactly how to go about that, I haven't had to do that yet. I wonder if once you authorize her computer and then set it up for automatic downloads (under Edit>Preferences>Store) if everything would download. Sorry I'm not much help on that.
