Firewire-B cable with built-in trigger lines?

Hi all,
We are building multiple vision systems.  Each system has a camera with Firewire-b cable and also a Trigger Cable (with 3 conductors).
For our application, we need as few cables as possible.  Our users are very concerned about having too many cables.
Does anyone know if I can purchase a firewire-B cable that has trigger lines.  Some kind of two-in-one cable?
Our best option right now is to use spiral wrap.
- John

The signal is being generated by an NI DAQ card:
Pin 1: +5V
Pin 2: DGND
Pin 3: A digital pulse train that fires the camera shutter. From 0.25 Hz to up to 60 Hz.
Not really sure about jitter or latency. I'd rather not have much of either. But don't have specific requirements.
How can I put the signal "in band" with the FireWire cable? Are there unused pins I could utitilize? Not sure if it'd be worth the effort, but I am curious.
Thanks! This machine vision board is very helpful!

i am using th quick time record your screen option and see (when on the audio selction) that you can only either record sound from your computer or from your microphone
is it possible to have it both on one recording?

The usual audio-in options on a laptop are None / Built-in Input: Line in / Built-in Microphone: Internal microphone. There's not an option to record system audio unless you've installed a third-party extension such as Soundflower.
In any event, if you're looking to combine audio inputs, check the Audio MIDI Setup help files (Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup). Search for "aggregate."

Then it sounds like the FW800 to 400 adapter just gets in the way. You don't have FW800 case? on my MDD G4 I added and used FW800 controller and cases from OWC and Sonnet.

  • Is it safe to plug and unplug USB and Firewire cables with the computer on?

Is it safe to plug and unplug USB and Firewire cables with the computers on? I have a Mac G4 and a newly purchased IMac and I use one printer for both computers. Should I shut down the computers when I unplug the printer and connect to the other computer? How about when switching firewire drives.
Is there an easy way to have both computers connected to the same printer? I have an Epson 1280 printer.

Yes, you can unplug a printer without shutting down the computer, but if you are switching the printer to another computer then you should first turn off the printer, unplug it, re-connect to the other computer, then turn on the printer. This will assure that the printer will be properly recognized.
If you have your computers networked via Ethernet then you can leave the printer connected to one computer and share it with the other via the network connection. Printer sharing is turned on using the Sharing preference in System Preferences. You will need to Add the printer on both computers so you will need the appropriate printer driver installed on both computers.

USB/Firewire ports were designed to be "hot" plugged. You can safely plug and unplug devices without usually having to shut down the computer or the device. Some devices, such as external HDs, digital cameras and iPods need to be "ejected" first, so as not to damage their formatting or data.
You can network your Macs wirelessly or with an ethernet cable and then set the printer connected to one computer to be shared with the other computer.

  • PXI trigger line names.

What are terminal names for PXI-Trig lines in traditional NI-DAQ?
There are only ND_PXI_STAR and ND_PXI_STAR_3... constants.

    Hi Shibaev,
Thanks for posting on the NI forums.
I have taken a look into this one. From what is documented in the Traditional NI-DAQ manual, and the DAQ help file, the trigger lines for PXI devices are referred to as RTSI lines. For PCI devices there is an optional connector for a RTSI cable to provide shared triggers in a desktop PC. With PXI these lines are built into the PXI chassis. Although PXI and PCI are different form factors for DAQ devices, the (Traditional) NI-DAQ driver refers to either RTSI lines or PXI lines as simply 'RTSI'.
To route your clocks/triggers accross these lines you should use the string "RTSI X", where X is the line number you wish to use (X = {0,1,...,6,7}). Take a look at the attached .jpg for a list of possible signal route connections (this was extracted from the NI-DAQ help file).
    I hope this helps!

  • Error message: no registered trigger lines

    Hi,
I was using the example within labview 7.1 under "Hardware input and output ------Daqmx ------Synchronization------Multi-function---multi-funtion-synch AI-AO.vi". I was using pci-6032e card (device 2) for input and pci-6713 card (device 1) for output.
Then this error message jumped out when I was trying to run the labview vi.
    Possible reason(s):
No registered trigger lines could be found between the devices in the route.
If you have a PXI chassis, identify the chassis correctly in MAX, and make sure it has been configured properly. If you are using PCI devices, make sure they are connected with a RTSI cable and that the RTSI cable is registered in MAX. Otherwise, make sure there is an available trigger line on the trigger bus shared between the devices.
    Source Device: Dev2
    Destination Device: Dev1
    Task Name: _unnamedTask<9>
I am using RTSI cables connecting the two devices. But I don't know how to check if this RTSI cable is registered in MAX or not. If not, how could I register it?
    Thanks,
    Zexi,

    Thank you for your information.
I just had trouble finding that item RTSI cable in the MAX. Later in the help, I found that I needed to use "creat new" to creat that item. Thanks very much.

  • Problems with Built in input/output

I just received my new Macbook Pro 13" from the refurb store, everything has worked perfectly except an issue when using an external USB audio interface.
Whilst running Line 6's Gearbox and Logic Pro Studio 8, i can record my guitar/synth through the interface but without any output sound from the internal speakers, yet when listening back after recording i can hear it fine. I've plugged headphones into the rear of the audio interface and sound is present, so in theory plugging an audio cable from the headphone slot into the built in input on my mac should work... no.
Have run through all settings and the main problem seems to be on the Audio/Midi setup page, where when checking the built in input settings it says on the right handside "Output is not available"
I really need some help with this as the main purpose of this new mac is for sound and audio work for college/university.

    Good idea Joe.
I went to my system preferences (I'm running Mavericks) and checked.
My internal microphone shows as 'built-in'
My line in shows as 'audio line-in port'
I moved up the input volume a little to be safe
Output volume on full, but there was never any problem playing tracks previously recorded.
I still haven't reinstalled Garage Band, as I wanted to get my podcast done before the end of the month. I exported the cast as it was to an external hard drive, along with small mp3's I had been about to add in (like my jingle) then went to another computer in the house, and recreated the podcast from those mp3's. I was able to add in the introductory audio recording on that other computer and complete my podcast.
I transferred the newly recreated podcast back to my normal laptop (where the problem occurs), checked and published my podcast. I double checks the newly recreated cast (the one I built up on the other machine from mp3's) to see if I could record now  - since I recorded within that particular project on the other machine. I *still was not able to record* on my laptop.
I still cannot create another new project that allows me to audio record. My preferences for the garage band app and op sys  on my laptop, all appear to be set for sound.
I guess I will now break down and reinstall garage band. I think I've reset something in the application that an update doesn't reset.
    Thanks for your ideas.

As a trigger is executed in the db and not in your app it's really hard to help as you did not give any useful information.

  • Where can I find an adapter that will let me use my firewire 800 devices with a thunderbolt only ported macbook air?

Been looking for a way to use my firewire 800 devices with my macbook air - which has only usb and thunderbolt ports.  I've seen internet pages for an adapter from sonnet but have not found anywhere to actually purchase such a thing.  Would love to be able to at least try to use the thunderbolt port - for something - or trade the thing in for something with present day usable firewire 800 ports.  Is this thunderbolt technology already getting shelved?  I see like 5 items on the market that actually use this port...  really?  That's it?   Thank you for any guidance!

  • I repaired a cracked iphone 5c screen now I have a black screen with a vertical blue line on the left hand side of the screen. please help!!

    Hi all,
Please help, I repaired an iphone 5c and have now tried two different lcd screens on it but all I get is a black screen or a black screen with a vertical blue line on the left hand side of the screen. I definitely have the cables connected properly etc and before I repaired it the phone had a cracked screen and there was a picture on it.
I have tried hard reset and nothing. I have tried connecting to iTunes but it asks me to confirm on the iPhone which I can't do as there is nothing on the display.  I have tried randomly pressing all over the screen but it doesn't work. So I can't even try restoring it on iTunes.
Please help any advice will be appreciated! I successfully have repaired iphone 4's and iphone 5 before but this is the first iphone 5c.
    Thanks.

  • No longer able to use non-apple lightning to 30 pin adapter cable with IOS 8

Do any of you use an Apple iDevice with a digital transport docking station to get your music from your device to your speakers using an external DAC?
I have an Onkyo ND-S1 which was great when using my iPhone 4S plugged into the dock sending digital audio through to my active speakers with built in DAC….
But since upgrading to an iPhone 6, running IOS 8.1.1 which has a lightning port, I purchased an aftermarket ‘lightning to 30-pin female adapter cable’ to continue using the dock with my new iPhone.
It doesn’t work. The adapter is not approved by Apple and somehow they have managed to bork all non-apple cables, ie it won’t charge, it won’t send digital audio. It’s essentially useless. Now, this is a cable that was manufactured & marketed specifically to allow iDevices with a lightning port to connect to digital transport docks, and I believe that it used to work with IOS 7.x, but it appears that with the rollout of IOS 8.x, Apple has done something that renders all non-apple cables redundant.
Apple sell their own £30 adapter cable, but that has its own DAC built in to the unit – now stupid question time: If I used one of these cables, would it (a) Do nothing, just like the non-apple cable, (b) Convert the audio to analogue, then send the converted audio to the speakers (by analogue cable only), resulting in a lower quality reproduction?  Or (c) Would it bypass the DAC in the cable and send the digital signal to the speakers?
Does anybody have any experience of this?

If the 3rd party adapter doesn't work it is because it is a counterfeit device The manufacturer has failed to licence the lightning technology from Apple ergo it does not work
Of course the Applr product will work ,infact most of the copies in very very small prin tsay in advert it does not support sound intended for charging only

  • 20" Monitor with (Built-in iSight?)

As soon as Apple updates the 20" monitor with built-in iSight I will be buying one and connecting my Macbook, then retiring my iMac iSight to my wife. Hurry up Apple with the upgrade.
    Now for the technical question:
If Apple indeed adds iSight to it's line of monitors and since all the new computers Apple is building these days already have iSight built-in will my dream configuration work.
I know the external iSight works when connected, however there are minor glitches when shutting down, sleeping....

dig a little deeper next time
D/FW, there nothing to dig for. You're asking for functionality and behaviour of a product that does not exist. You're better off speculating in a rumours forum.

  • The Thunderbolt to Firewire 800 cable?

I have a JVC digital video camera, and have lost some of the cables. Will a Thunderbolt to Firewire 800 cable connected with a Firewire 800 - Firewire 400 cable (same as ieee1394?) transfer the videos to my MacBook Air?

The Thunderbolt to FW 800 cable provides a FW800 port that you can plug into. You can see what it looks like here.  If you have a FW cable that will connect to your camera and terminates in a FW800 plug, that should work.
