FireWire SDK 23?

Does anyone have the 'Firewire SDK 23'?
My extern firewire soundcard isn't working proper (crackles, pops, silences) and I want to try the Applefwaudio 2.0.1 to see if that will fix the problem. I checked the developer site of apple, but I could only find SDK 26.
So Firewire SDK 23?

I don't think you'll find it here either. Best to contact the Apple Developer Forum.

  • FireWire SDKs 18 and/or 20

I'm trying to hook my MacBook up to my Motorola DCT3412 Comcast cable box to transfer video from it to my Mac. I have read two methods on the internet. Ones uses the AVCVideoCap application from FireWire SDK 20. The other uses the AVC Browser and the VirtualDVHS applications from FireWire SDK 18. I've experimented with both extensively, and neither method works with FireWire SDK 23, which is what I have. I have searched the internet up and down, left and right, and back and forth and there is nowhere to download older versions of FireWire SDK.
Can someone PLEASE, please send me FireWire SDK 18 and/or FireWire SDK 20. My e-mail address is <edited by host>. I would be more greatful than you can imagine. If not, does anyone know a place where I can download either of these SDKs? Finally, I have one more question. In case I am destined not to acquire either of these SDKs, does anyone have an effective, working method for extracting/capturing video from a cable box with the newer FireWire SDK 23?
Thank you in advance for any help you can offer me.

  • How do I transfer content from DVR to Macbook Pro via Firewire?

I need help. I want to transfer my recorded shows off of my Comcast Motorolo DVR to my Macbook Pro, Version 10.9.1. I've done some youtube searches and the ones that I find say I need AVCVideocapand that I can get it from downloading Firewire SDK 2.6. So I downloaded firewire SDK 2.6 and when I try to open it I get an error saying it can't be open because it's from an unknow developer. So then I downloaded the lastest XCode software but still no AVCVideocap. I have the 9 pin plug of firewire plugged into the back of my DVR and the othere end of firewire, 6pin, connected to my Mac. Should I be seeing anything on my desktop, like new device or something? Please help. Thanks in advance, Joey

To run the installer, press the Control key and click the installer, and choose Open.
A different way would be to open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General, press the padlock at the bottom left corner of the System Preferences window, and select "Anywhere" under "Allow applications downloaded from". Finally, run the installer.

  • Second iMac as external monitor; Connection via firewire without a deck/cam

Second iMac as an external monitor; Connection by firewire without a deck/camera possible?
I spend a lot of hours to find an answer to the following question, unfortunately without any success:
I’m working with a new iMac (Intel, OS 10.4.11) and Final Cut. Additionally I have an old iMac (G3, OS 10.3.9).
I would like to use the FireWire port to transport a dv video stream from the new iMac/Final Cut to the old one so that the old one can be used as a monitor. So all I want is a software for the old iMac that shows an incoming FireWire dv-stream as a live picture.
I tried vlc, videoviewer, iMovie, Vidi and btv. The problem is always the same: Final Cut (on the new iMac) does not find any FireWire/dv-device nor do all these software on the old iMac find a connection to Final Cut. I think the problem is that both sides are seeking for a device-setup at the FireWire-port on the other side. And none of them sends a signal like „yes I’m here and waiting for a dv-stream“.
Another attempt was ScreenRecycler with VNC-client on the old iMac. Unfortunately on my old iMac Os 10.3.9 is the last possible OS and no vnc client on that system is fast enough to show a video in real time.
I also tried virtualDV from Apples FireWire SDK 20. It works so far, that it claims to be a dv-device (on the old iMac) and so Final Cut at the new iMac says: „okay I’ll deliver you that stream“. The problem now is that virtualDV only can record that stream, not show it in real time.
Is there any solution like virtualDV that shows a live preview and turns the iMac in a FireWire dv-device?
Is there any solution that Final Cut simulates to be a FireWire dv-device itself and that another computer finds that device and understand the dv-stream?
Thank you very much for your help.

    Don't think this is possible.
You're better off using a DAC (for example the one made by Canopus) and put your DV in and get a compatible signal out the other end for connection to your monitor.
I don't understand why you would want to go through a computer first, it would be a waste of time and add a huge delay to the signal.
Finally, I wouldn't use a computer monitor as an external display, it would be useless in my experience. Why not just preview on the one you've got by going full screen in FCP? Also using a computer monitor as a preview/output monitor is not a good idea since it's so different from a normal TV and won't show the correct colour space or issues such as flickering and interlace problems, underscan etc etc.
Seems like you're using a sledgehammer to crack a very small nut and that would be to use a DV camera via firewire and then connect up a monitor from that. (again using a convertor box if you have a connection problem.)

  • Firewire and Cable box?

Hey all I have a new 24" iMAC and I am using the firewire SDK (most current version) to attempt to connect to my cable box. I am on Time Warner Cable and I can see my set top box fine, but I can't seem to get the stream to work. My question is has anyone that is on TWC using a SA 8300HD box been able to get this to work?
    Thanks,

    There some information here:

that might help, though it may be outdated.

  • Does 10.5.6 have new firewire drivers?

Just checking because I've been having some issues that seem driver related. The two I'm interested in are:
    AppleFWAudio.kext (Current is 2.4.2)
    IOFireWireFamily.kext (Current is 3.4.4)
They can be found in Machintosh HD\System\Library\Extensions. If someone could check it out for me I sure would appreciate it. Thanks.
    Dustin

Basically I have a new macbook pro 2.4GHZ running 10.5.6 with a Mackie Onyx Satellite that actually worked (a bit) under 10.5.5. I have sent it to the repair shop because it has internal issues but that is another story.
I have noticed that my extensions folder does not have the AppleFWAudio.kext file. I was going to back it all up and then redo the 10.5.6 combo update but my Firewire WD Hardrive failed. So...
    • I downloaded the Firewire26 SDK from the Apple Dev Site.
    • Once I get the HD up again I will back up my machine and install the 10.5.6 combo
    • If the FWAudio.kext is still missing I will then install the firewire SDK
Short of doing that has anyone else got any advice or fixes?
    http://www.macmaps.com/firewirebug2.html
Is a good read (provided by a brody) but there is nothing recent for 10.5.6.
Meanwhile Mackie has no new drivers.
I actually installed the drivers for the MOTU traveler (available from Versiontracker) when I was running 10.4 and this solved my Mackie Onyx firewire problem. Sometimes these rival companies have new firewire drivers for similar devices and it works.

  • Reinstallation of specific firewire drivers?

So I was a bit of a moron the other day in attempting to hook my PowerBook up to my HD cable box from Comcast. I was using directions that were a few years old, and without realizing what I was doing (looking back on it I can't believe I was so careless) I installed FireWire drivers that not only did my OS not need, they were a few years old. Is there any way for me to reinstall only a few specific drivers from the OS CD, or am I SOL and just have to reinstall my whole system? The drivers that were replaced were these:
    AppleFWOHCI
    AppleLynx
    IOFireWireFamily
    IOFireWireSBP2
    IOFireWireAVC
    IOFWDVComponents
They were part of the FireWire SDK version 19 that (I now know) is not needed with 10.4. Any help would be appreciated, I just really don't want to spend a few hours reinstalling and reconfiguring the entire system. Thanks!

You can use Pacifist from charlessoft.com to extract the drivers you need from the OS install CD/DVD

  • Unable to locate timecode in batch capture

Hi there, I have been working on this problem for a while and would really appreciate some help.
I have a documentary project I have been working on for some time and have completed the EDL. I am now trying to batch capture the footage again in full res and am having problems with a couple of the tapes.
    First the specs:
The video was shot on a Sony HDR-HC1 in HDV(1080) mode.
I am using this camera to capture the footage.
I am trying to recapture the footage in a sequence with the easy setting on HDV1080i50.
I had originally captured the footage in SD on an older version of final cut pro (I am now working with FCP6) and didn't realise that my 16:9 footage was actually all 4:3 letterboxed. To fix this problem I used the media manager to export and then in the new project batch capture all the footage again from the tape. The project uses 18 tapes, 16 of which were batch digitised with only minor troubleshooting required. However 2 of the tapes are proving to be very problematic. It seems that whatever clip I select on the tape it gives me a message saying "unable to locate timecode".
I have tried setting the tape to the exact location of the clip before selecting the batch capture, but the computer always seems to look for a spot which is 2-3 mins out of sync with the clip. For example, if the in point is 00:10:00:00 the computer will roll the tape to around the 00:12:00:00 mark and start jogging around there for about 30 seconds until eventually giving me the "unable to locate timecode" message. Looking in the information in the bins, the in and out points are accurate, its just that when I try to capture, the computer rolls the tape to the wrong position.
If anyone knows a workaround for this that will help me avoid having to edit the footage all over again I will be extremely grateful.
    Thanks
    Liam

IS not a problem whit easy setup or wherever , I download the FireWire SDK from Apple and test all connection with the applications of sdk and in all case , the camera and the fire wire are OK, the problem is with quicktime and FCP, If any one is working OK with FCP and DV NTSC devices and JVC PRO HD devices, please tell us HOW DO. I'm working with FCP since 2000 and in this month FCP makes me very UNHAPPY.

  • DVHSCap to Capture HDV VIdeo

FCP does not support the JVC GR-HD1U but I have found that people have been successful capturing the video through Apple's DVHSCap then converting the data to .m2t transport files using MPEG Streamclip (I will post what I read below). I have downloaded DVHSCap but cannot figure out how to capture the vide from my camcorder. If anyone is familiar with DVHSCap I would very much appreciate some advice. Thank you all very much for your time!

    [/ QUOTE ]
Apple and FCP 4.5 do not yet officially support JVC's HDV camcorders.
However, I have had very good results, over the past year, using Apple Development software to capture HDV files from my GR-HD1U. Then using free-ware software to convert the resulting .m2t transport files to QuickTime .mov files. I then drop the QT.mov files into an FCP bin and edit as usual using FCP.
I use Apple's DVHSCap application to capture HDV camcorder data tapes via firewire and convert the data to .m2t transport files. DVHSCap (for Panther) can be obtained by going to:
    www.apple.com/firewire/
click on 'FireWire SDK 19 for Mac OS X (Download)
double click XFireWireSDK19e.pkg (to install the SDK)
DVHSCap (and similar VirtualDVHS) can be found in
    /Developer/FireWireSDK19/Applications/
I also use a freeware program 'MPEG Streamclip 1.0.1', which is available from:
    http://www.alfanet.it/squared5/mpegstreamclip.html
    I use MPEG Streamclip to:
    1) Locate clips of interest and set their 'in' and 'out' points,
    2) Set the, optional, number of 'bad lines' to crop from the sides and top of each frame,
    3) Re-scale, if desired, to 720p or 1080p,
    4) Export to QuickTime...
    5) Drop the resulting QT.mov file, which contains synced 'video and audio' data, into an FCP bin.

I don't have experience with your JVC format or deck but here is something you may want to read.
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/FCP6HD_and_BroadcastFormats.pdf

*capturing HDV footage, Final Cut Pro does not preview video or audio in the Log and*
*Capture window. You can still log and capture, but you need to use your HDV camcorder*

I realize you have 5.1 but read this entire section on HDV, it could help.

  • WAITING FOR TIME CODE....again

Hi, when I try to capture from DV device, the capture window appears "PREVIEW DISABLED" I can remote the dv device, mark time code in or out, play tape, pause tape, the time code in the capture window run and is the same taht the tape, but when I do batch capture, cpture clip or capture now, the preview window of catpure says : "WAITING FOR TIME CODE" "DEVICE MUST IN VTR MODE WHEN DEVICE CONTROL IS ENABLED" and when I abort the capture this message apperas: "THIS OPERATION COULD NOT BE COMPLETED AS THERE IS NO VIDEO", Quicktime pro is unabled to capture too, but IMOVIE capture without this problem. I download the firewire sdk from developer connection of apple and use AVCVideo Cap, and no problem for cature, so , my Firewire or dv devices are ok, with DVHSCap I capture PRO HD JVC very well.
Resume , I think there is a problem with quicktime and DV format, My Ibook G4 with FCP 5.0.1 capture from DV devices OK, without problem. If anybody resolved this please comment with us. I work to day with FCP 6.0.4 and quicktime 7.5 and Mac os 10.4.11 and 10.5.4 the problem is afected my PowerPC G5 and my powerbook intel. Another point of interest is that this problem is RANDOM, some times I can capture from DV devices in the first time, some times I can't capture.

    Hey AL
    How ya doin buddy?
"Either way, try an Easy Setup>DV Converter, to match your video standard (Pal or NTSC)."
    Yep - did that
Yes actually my older Sony TVR-310 camcorder IS a digital unit which can also play back analog tapes.
As I'm getting my way around now in FCE, I'm coming to some conclusions in regard to FCE's capture capability.
First let me say that I've also tried capturing some footage in FCE with my other Sony TVR-950, and have had dropped frames, and also breaks in time code.
I thought dropped frames were strictly a PC issue?
Anyway, it appears to me that FCE is VERY sensitive to time code issues NO matter which camera is in the chain.
In fact, I've also read here where folks have a lot of trouble with their Canon GL2's as well. Some of you have even suggested to do your captures in a cheaper Mini DV, or a clam-shell playback machine. This conserves the heads on your GL2 as well.
But why would FCE do better in regard to capturing and time code, with a cheaper Mini DV Camcorder? Perhaps I'm missing something here?
Perhaps iMovie doesn't care about the same issue?
    Now my main question is:
Ok I'll use iMovie6 HD (tried and true), to capture ALL my footage and just save the DV files to be edited later (imported) into FCE.
Does this sound like a viable solution to FCE's time code issues?
Will my iMovie captures be JUST AS GOOD as if they were done in FCE?
    Thanx so much guys!

  • How can I capture live HD video direct to hard drive?

    Hello,
My goal is to be able to capture 1080p video from a camcorder direct to the hard drive of a mac. Space is a concern, so ideally this would capture directly to a Mac Mini, but if the only option is to upgrade to a Mac Pro or MacBook Pro (for Thunderbolt), I may be able to work with that. What I know about so far are the offerings from Black Magic:
    1) The H.264 pro recorder: http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/h264prorecorder/
    2) and the Ultra Studio 3D: http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/ultrastudio3d/
With the first option, I'm worried about the quality. Ultra Studio 3D is very expensive ($1000) and would require upgrading to a MacBook Pro for Thunderbolt, but I'm open to that if it is the only way to get full 1080p quality.
I also have read about an app in the Firewire SDK called DHS cap. I haven't been able to try this since the cameras I have access do not have Firewire, but if people have had success with that, then I can purchase a camera that can connect through Firewire.
The last thing I've read about is Capture Magic HD. I would like to test this as well, but it appears the developers are out of business (their website is down), and i cannot find the software anywhere.
Any advice about the best way to go about this would be greatly appreciated. I've been googling away and searching forums for days now.

Really?  You've never opened up the capture window?
    Never since about CS2.
I have had a tapeless workflow for ever... so never had reason to even take a look at the Capture Window in later versions of Premiere.

  • Connect to TV/Get Screenshot of Program Playing?

I tried searching before posting (someone else must have this problem, yeah?) but after hours couldn't find a solution and am just running out of time trying to noodle this on my own... Any advice/assistance would be HUGELY appreciated!
I have a client that needs me to get hi-resolution screen captures from some of their clients' TV programs -- I have a Mac, shouldn't be a problem, right?
Unfortunately I don't have a new digital TV, or Apple TV, and am trying to use the firewire connection from my PowerBook G4 to my DVR/cable box (Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8000 model) to snag some still images. After installing FireWire SDK and re-booting all of the systems repeatedly, I can't get the computer to recognize the DVR as an external source of any kind.
Basically I can't seem to make the TV/my cable box to my laptop. I CAN use the standard A/V connector to make the laptop think that the TV is a secondary display, but that's sort of backwards to what I'm trying to do.
All I need is to find a way to get simple still screenshots from the TV. Is there anyway to make this happen, or am I just screwed?

HI cheshiredmad and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
If you haven't tried this... get a S-Video cable, ($15 at Radio Shack), and if your PBookG4 came with one like mine did... get your Apple DVI to Video Adapter, if you haven't got one go here: http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9267G/A?fnode=home/shopmac/macaccessories/cables&mco=MTUzNTY Connect the S-Video cable to the corresponding ports on the TV, not the cable box. Then connect the yellow connector on the other end to the DVI/Video Adapter, then connect the DVI to the PBookG4. It's the ort between your Audio and first USB port. See if you can screen capture at that point.

  • Connecting a JVC GR-240 Mini DV camcorder to iMac

    Hello,
I am completely new Mac user, having used recently decided to ditch my home Dell Pc in favour of a Mac. I have tried to connect my JVC GR-D240 mini DV camcorder to the iMac via the firewire port. Neither iMovie HD (which I downloaded) or iMovie08 seem to recognise the camera – the only source they allow is the build in iSight camera. The camcorder is placed in play mode, but nothing happens.
I can connect the camera to my old Dell PC, record to avi and then copy this to the Mac, but this is not an ideal solution as I am getting rid of the PC soon.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.
PS – I have one of the new silver iMacs.

    Hi Philip,
connect the cam, switch it on and start the System Profiler (About this Mac menu).
Look into Hardware/Firewire, there you will see the firewire bus and your cam should be shown.
If this is not the case, then there might be something wrong with your installation or your mac.
You could also download the Firewire SDK from http://developer.apple.com/sdk/
There you will find the AVCBrowser in the applications folder of the SDK. I don't know but it might be possible that you also have to install xcode, which you will find on your DVDs shipped with the mac. Connect the cam, start AVCBrowser and you cam should be shown. In the Browser you can check a lot of thinks on the cam.
I had only one problem with a Sony with dead fw-port, but as yours still works with the Dell it seems to be somethink on the mac side.
Try repair permissons and have a look into /var/log/system.log, if you find anything about firewire there post it.

  • Imac won't recognize Pyro A/V converter box

I can't seem to get my G-4 imac to recognize my Pyro A/V convertor box to use for importing analog video. I've tried resetting power, unplugging cables, etc. I'm pretty new to mac, so could someone help me with this?

I have same problem on G5 Dual. Used to work with Panther. Have your found any solution yet?
I have a Sony 8mm 72X camcorder ( with standard RCA output cables to an ADS Pyro A/V Link API -550 rev B converter box. I connect with firewire 400 to front of Mac G5 Dual with Tiger OS 10.4.7.
I also upgraded to iLife 6 recently
It used to work with Panther and iLife 4.
Now I cannot get iMovie HD to see the camcorder. Tried all the tips of restarting, unhooking etc. Neither does Final Express 5 or Premier 6 (Classic).
Looked at ADS help pages-not much help, but I downloaded and installed FireWire SDK version 19 for Mac OS X! No change.
    Any suggestions?
