First click on link to new tab works, Second link only works on third click, second click ignored.

Sounds just like the title, very repeatable on this system.
1. I middle-click on a link to open it on the new tab, it works and I see the new page load in the new tab.
2. I then middle-click on another link (think google search results) and nothing happens.
3. Then I click again, and the link i am on loads.
4. repeat step 2-3 on all future links.
This is weird, and driving me nuts.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, Including resetting the profile. Running in safe mode does not fix the issue.
Any suggestions?

You should check your security software:
Expired security software causing problems should be removed since it can't be updated.
All installed Firefox extensions - many security products install them.
Whether any security software has been uninstalled. Often, parts of uninstalled security software are left behind. If security software needs to be removed, uninstalling from Add/Remove Programs in Windows is always the safest method. If there are problems uninstalling, some companies offer a removal tool.
Clean installation: Close Firefox completely. (File->Exit on Windows/Linux, Firefox->Quit on Mac)
Rename the Firefox installation folder or move it elsewhere.
Windows: This is usually C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox for 32-bit systems and C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox for 64-bit systems. "Mozilla Firefox" can be renamed to "Old Firefox"
Mac: This is usually Macintosh HD/Applications/Firefox.app. Macintosh HD/Applications can be opened in Finder, and Firefox can be dragged to Trash.
Linux: The install location varies based on distribution and installation method. Linux distributions usually don't put Firefox in its own folder, so this method can't be used.
Download Firefox again from mozilla.org and install. (Installation instructions for Windows, Mac, Linux )
If this fixes the problem, you can optionally check the old install folder for global extensions, components, or corrupt/locked files.

• How do i get my new tabs work?

I use to be able to open new tabs, until lately i tried it did not work. How do I fix this issue. I tried to computer restore already but that is not solve the issue.

The Ask Toolbar is causing that in the Firefox 3.6.13+ versions. Uninstall that extension.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:
* Check the Windows Control panel for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
* Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons

HI,
Try maitnenance...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache.
Could be a 3rd party plugins causing the problem. Go to ~/Library/Internet Plugins. Move any 3rd party plugins to the Trash and restart your Mac.
Also, if you are running Safari in 64 bit mode, try running in 32-bit mode instead. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Quit Safari then relaunch.
Right the click the Safari icon in your Dock then click Open in Finder. Then right click the Safari icon, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window under General make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.
Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/ Move the Cache.db file to the Trash and restart your Mac.

• Why can't I open new tabs. I can only have one tab at a time for when I hit the + button nothing happens

Since the last update (about a month or two ago) I have been unable open new tabs unless I find a webpage that takes me to a new link and therefore opens a new tab. It is highly annoying as I need to open multiple pages at once.

Uninstall the Ask Toolbar. It can cause that problem.

• MAC OS 10.6.8 Firefox 6.0.2 Any new window opening takes over a minute to happen. Once open all is fine. New tabs open immediately. Only on new windows is there this delay. This only happens on FF, not on Sarari, Chrome, Opera. - stevehorn@websentia.us

Opening FF for the first time and when any additional, new window is opened, it takes over 60 seconds for the window to appear. This happens after reboot and repair permissions in Disc Utilities on reboot (from installation disc). Once window appears, all works fine. New tabs appear instantly. New, added windows still take the 60+ seconds to appear even with current window remaining open. No other browsers or applications behave this way.

Not sure if this is exactly the same as the other reported problems.
But creating a new (via command N or via menu selection) window creates a long thin nearly zero width but full height window. Selecting the window via the window menu and zooming brings it up at full size.
I tried turning off all add-ons and things seemed to work but then stopped working again (sorry can't find a consistent set of symptoms here).

• I can only use one tab at a time. If I go to File, New Tab a second tab will not open. I am able to create a 2nd tab by clicking a link from the first tab.

I am unable to open further tabs, if I either right click or go to File; Ne tab; nothing happens.

The Ask Toolbar is causing that in the Firefox 3.6.13 version. Evidently something in that extension isn't compatible with a Firefox security fix. Disable that extension or un-install it.

• When I click on an email link, it starts an unending cascade of new tabs that I can only stop by closing Firefox. I know I can just copy the link but can't that problem with Firefox be fixed???

this doesn't happen with all links

html body table.page tbody tr td.bodyborder div.body div.main div.content form#Form1 table.formcontents tbody tr td table.structure tbody tr td.action input#_SubmitRegistration.buttonsave
It is on the page: https://www.ctpmp.com/Registration.aspx

• Close tabs and open links in new tab with middle click

Until recently I was able to close tabs by middle clicking them or open new tabs by middle clicking them. Recently however Firefox either is no longer recognizing my middle clicks or is not processing them in the same way.
I tried looking in the about:config functions for functions including 'middle' in an attempt to find the configuration option for this but didn't find anything. I need to identify how to configure it first so I can attempt that.

I have this problem as well, and tried basically everything. Even a fresh install (didn't help). I have this issue (using the same Logitech LX3) since I switched from Firefox 3.x to 4.x and now 5.x, all on Windows 7.
Basically, the middle mouse button behavior is totally unreliable. Most of the times, it doesn't work at all. However, sometimes it does, but then it may take up many seconds (keeping the middle button pressed) until the tab finally opens... and then it often opens multi. Sometimes the tab(s) open after X seconds while the middle mouse button is still pressed, sometimes it opens after the button was released.
It seems to be a bit better in Private Browsing mode, though. Can't really be more specific: sometimes the middle mouse button opens the new tab after seconds in "using tab x, page y, link z", while it doesn't work on exactely that same page on "using tab x, page y, link z" after doing nothing for 5 minutes.

• Clicking links generates a new tab when I don't want it to

I've designed a basic html site (www.crustycreations.com) with frames. I have links on a top menu frame that open the content on a larger lower body frame. For a long time its worked fine on all browsers, but recently on Chrome when I click the menu links it generates a new tab for the content only with no menu on top. I switched to Opera and for a few weeks things worked fine but now all of a sudden its doing the same thing. So at first I thought it was just a Chrome thing, but with Opera now doing it I am wondering if it might be Dreamweaver despite the fact that I haven't made any changes to the files. Any suggestions to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Frames are bad news for a dozen+ reasons.
Mobile devices have trouble with Frames.
People can't navigate easily on framed sites.
People can't bookmark pages easily.
People can't print pages easily.
The browsers back button is rendered useless on Framed sites.
The expertise to manage Framed sites far outweighs their perceived benefits.
The W3C saw fit to remove Frames from HTML5 web standards because they were a really bad idea from the get go.  Don't use Frames.  Use DW Templates or Server-side includes for your site wide navigation menus.

• Right-Clicking a link to Open in a New Tab

I got used to opening a link in a new tab by right-clicking the link and typing T. Nice and fast, much more convenient than using the mouse to click on the Open in a New Tab choice.
Sometime within the past few months that stopped working. Now to force open a link in a new tab, I have to click on the choice with the mouse. The "T" key doesn't work.
Is there any way to restore that functionality? Believe it or not, for a tiny, picky thing, I really miss it.

I have found the culprit!
The Add-on Copy as Text uses a right click on selected text with a hot key of T to copy the text. If I disable that, the normal functionality to open a link in a new tab works with right-click-T.
Thanks for helping me troubleshoot this!!

• Why I cannot open a link in a new tab, since I upgraded firefox to the latest version ?

I can't open a google search option in a new tab, since I upgraded Firefox to version 33.0. I also cannot downgrade firefox, to solve this problem.

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings, disables most add-ons (extensions and themes). See the Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode article for more information.
If Open Link in new tab works in Safe mode, one of the extensions/add-ons (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) was causing the problem. Then let us know what extension or plugin are you using that causes this problem.
You can also try the Reset Firefox Feature. The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.
See the Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems article for more information.
To Reset Firefox:
# Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
#*Click the menu button , click help and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
#*If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
#At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Reset Firefox" that looks like this: . Click on it.
#Firefox will close and reset. After it is done, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
#Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.
