First GarageBand import: resounding silence

Torally wet-behind-the-ears Logic Pro 9 nooobie here. Wanted to move to Logic because GB keeps unpredictably and silently wiping real instrument files in the .band package. I'm sick of it and nobody on GB forums can explain why it happens or how to prevent it. Sorry for off-topic intro.
So I took a nice GB project from my backups and opened it in Logic as advertised. It appeared to import OK. I see tracks with wave forms. The tracks were all muted, which I expected because they were muted in the GB project. So I unmuted them. At that point I clicked Play. The silence is deafening. No VU meters blinking. Nothing. Well, not nothng... the transport is moving to the right as I would expect.
My Preferences settings are all default settings.
Screenshot of Device preferences
Screenshot of I/O preferences
And here's a link to a screenshot of my Logic window - you can see how levels are set.
I have tried with both Built-in Input/Output and my Presonus AudioBox (Core Audio compatible interface) as devices. Same result both ways.
Please don't assume I know anything - I don't! Jargon, abbreviations... nada, zip. I'm a banjo player, OK? Not doing anything fancy. Acoustic instrument and vocal trax, with occasional software instruments. I have a lot of stuff I need to remix and I'm feeling like I just rushed up to the top of the mountain and went over the edge.
Thanks in advance.

OK, summary for the benefit of others who may meet the same problem.
If your tracks are muted in Garageband, they're muted in Logic when you import the project.
Evidently there is muting for regions in Logic, separate from/in addition to track muting.
If a muted GB track is imported, it looks like it's not enough to just unmute the track in Logic with the little M button. You also have to unmute the track's region(s) as nasrudin said. 10 big ones to da man.

    Rip the CDs with another program on your computer, and add the resulting MP3s to your iTunes library.  (If you use Windows Media Player for this purpose, make sure the Rip Setting is on MP3, or else it will default to a useless format known as WMA.)

  • Premiere to encore - export first or import project files?

    I would like to make a dvd of a show, which is currently in different projects (by scene) because they are made up of many different video clips and are quite large. I don't know if my computer is going to be able to handle having all this video open at once and am wondering what the best way is to handle this, or if that is even an issue.
    What is the best way to do this? Should I be importing all the premiere projects along with their associated clips into one premiere file to add the chapters? If so, does flattening help or does it bring all the full clips in anyway? Or do I bring those projects directly into Encore?
    Or should I be exporting to MpegDVD first and using those, or will I lose a lot of quality?
    Thanks!

    if you have Premiere Pro Cloud you may not import premiere projects into Encore CS6 since dynamic link does not work between versions... you must export MPEG2-DVD out of P-Pro and import the two (audio and video) files in Encore
    CS5-thru-CC PPro/Encore tutorial list http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1448923 may help
    The bottom section of the link above has several Adobe links, and other information, on downloading Premiere Pro CS6 and the bundled Encore CS6, and the TWO ADDED downloads for the Encore library content, to author a DVD or BluRay... and the tutorial list includes learning how to use Encore... pay particular attention to the picture in reply 3 at this link - https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1516173 (picture first posted by Ann Bens and reposted by Stan Jones)

  • How to attach a project to the end of a first one (import?)

    I have one project of 1.5 HDV Mini tapes in a project as a prel file.  I want to import (or somehow attach) a second project at the end of the first one.  It's impossible I think, but should be possible.
    I go to "Get Media" and a window pops up.  I see there the file I want to import or attach to the one that is open.  I click it, and get teh following wonderful message: File format not supported/one of the necessary components may not have been installed".  AND for me, that's just not helpful.
    Any ideas on how to accomplish the impossible that should be a snap?

    Steve:
    I have successfully captured from HDV tape a 1.2 hour video movie.  I have also successfully captured a 40 minute HDV tape video.  Both on hard drive.  I open the second one mentioned, and want to paste/import/add or whatever the terminology is, but I want to add them together into one movie.
    How can I do this?

  • First time import

    All,
    First time  on the forum, so thanks in advance. Have downloaded L/R5 and am attempting to import for the first time. Source is "EOS_DIGIGTAL" SD card from Canon EOS. All pictures are on the card. When selecting "Import", a new window opens which is a "Copy as DNG" which, during reading all tutorials, is never mentioned. I would like to just import directly from the source card to Macintosh HD. Also, "NO PHOTOS" shows as well. Again, thanks for the help.

  • Scripting for GarageBand: import; compress; export

    Hi there -
    I'm not sure where the best place to post this is, so forgive me if this was not the best guess. I'm doing research on language and have a workflow that involves collecting thousands of recordings of individual words:
         I record someone for half an hour;
         splice that single audio file into hundreds or thousands of single-word chunks;
         export each splice as a separate audio file;
         (would like to) use automator / script to automatically rename the resultant files with an alphanumeric prefix and numerical postfix;
         import each of these files into GarageBand (or StudioOne) individually;
         compress the file to reduce dynamic range;
         export the finalized file into a designated folder.
    I have some very basic background in programming (primarily MatLab, but very basic dabbling in C), but I know nothing about scripting for Macs. In the long term, I'm interested in learning how to do this, but in the short term I'm looking at a lot of work that needs to get procssed and just need a quick fix for automating so that I don't have to (continue to) do this manually for each file!
    In case it is of interest to anyone who may respond: the ultimate goal fo the process is to attain as constant a volume across all the files as possible: I record many different people, in different settings over the course of months or years and was told that compression will help standardize the playback volume. The reason for compressing each file individually is because even within a single recording session, the individual's voice may fluctuate notably as they move closer and further from the mic, or even if there is a single loud noise during recording - it would act as the reference point for compression, even though it was an anamoaly.
    Finally, to clarify the questions involved here:
    How can I automate the last 4 or so (or more?!) points from the above workflow? or Any suggestions where to find someone who could do this?
    Alternatievely: suggestions on standardizing volume playback that does not involve the above process (NB: the standardization has to be as professional as possible, so I don't want to compromise the result for a simpler workflow).
    Where can I start to learn more about scripting on the Mac so I can tackle such issues on my own, in the future?
    Kind regards,
    Rax Adam

    Yes, the Keynote presentation slides/project is set for 1920x1080, the reason is I'm outputting via a high lumens projector that natively projects at 1920x1080p.
    Even though a Macbook Pro does not have a screen that size, the Macbook can send out even larger than 1920x1080, but I am limiting the output to the native screen res of the projector.

  • GarageBand importing

    Hi everyone,
    I recorded an MP3 sound recording a few weeks ago on a digital recorder and saved it in a folder on my computer. When I tried to import it into GarageBand, for some reason, nothing came up. I've created new tracks, and fiddled with the program , but it does not import anything. I know it is not the audio file itself since I can play it on iTunes. Any suggestions?
    Thanks all

  • Garageband Import Horror! Help! Please!

    Hi, I've just upgraded to Logic Express 8 and if I try to import a garageband project with anything more than a couple of tracks i get horrible noises and the message 'Error while trying to synchronize Audio and MIDI - sample rate 23086 recognised. Check conflict between logic express and external device.'
    I get this message even after disconnecting all external devices.
    I'd be very grateful for any advice.

    Whoops! The garageband file opened in logic with too many inputs monitored. All is well. Be warned.

  • First time importing CD - easy question

    I'm about to import my first CD into iTunes.  I have almost no experience with iTunes.  The goal is convert my 500 or so CDs to ALAC.
    I've learned how to set iTunes to ALAC and I've popped in a CD.  I can see iTunes has already retrieved the CD title and track names.
    What I don't see is the cover art.  When I rip the CD to ALAC, will the cover art be embedded in the file?  I want to make sure the cover art is in there so it displays even when I'm not connected to the internet.
    Can anyone help?
    -JOHN

    Thanks for the reply, ejpre.  You answered my question perfectly.
    I did notice that I had to add the picture to the "get info" page several times before all thumbnails in the folder showed the image art.  iTunes showed the art right away, but for some reason the thumbnails in the file folder didn't all convert.  Some did - some didn't.
    I guess that's just a glitch or a bug.

  • ITunes to Garageband import at double speed

    When I click and drag a spoken word file (WAV) from iTunes to Garageband, it shows up in GB as double speed - Alvin and the Chipmunks-style. Tempo doesn't fix it. I've worked on Garageband before and this has not happened, so it may have to do with my recent upgrade of iTunes to 9.1. I'm on Garageband 3.0.4. Any ideas? You can email directly to: [email protected] Thanks!

  • My garageband imported podcasts are missing the interface?

    Hi Everyone,
    I have my website where I post all my original music and covers. I record on Garageband, and use Garageband's export to iWeb as podcast feature to export the music to my website easily. Recently I myself, and a few of my listeners have had issues. When they click on a song, it goes to the song's page and the play box won't have an interface, so you can't start the music or anything. I'll link my site below, just go to the "Music" page, and click on a few songs. Hopefully, you'll see what I mean. It's odd though, it only happens on certain computers, very randomly. But it's more frequent now.
    Thanks for any help, I'm releasing an album soon so I can't have my website not working.

    I can't replicate your problem on an iMac using Safari.
    Using this type of QuickTime player is not the best way to showcase your songs and anybody can easily rip them off.
    Either a Flash or Flash with fallback to html5 playlist player would be better...

  • First-time import of 50G -- a good idea?

    Hi folks, I'm be grateful for any "best practice" suggestions about setting up a large database of photos for the first time.
    I just moved all my photos to a external raid drive and upgraded to Lightroom CC.  My plan is to create one big catalog and filter it  by date (at least to start with) while I build collections as I need them. Can anyone see any problems with this approach, or recommend a better way?
    Many thanks,
    Patrick

    Thanks elie-d, another excellent point. I have several LR 3 catalogs that are focused on a specific subset of images, and have upgraded a few of them. However this is the first time I've had all my images in one place, which is why I was looking for a new approach.
    Cheers,
    Patrick

  • First import was 16:9, second try 4:3 WHY???

    I imported a new DV movie in 16:9 (widescreen) format. First it imported in 4:3 and it changed to 16:9.
    I than imported a second movie, same way it imported in 4:3 but never changed to 16:9. WHY???
    I saved my imported movie as a movieproject format. Can I change this to 16:9.
    Can someone help me

    Try this:
    Quit iMovie. The delete starting from your home folder ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iMovie.plist.
    Launch iMovie and in its prefs set 25 fps = PAL or 29.97 = NTSC. Also set automatic pillar/letterboxing pref OFF.
    Then create a new widescreen project and try to import 16:9 to it again.

  • 9i export file into 11GR2 - import full db or create users, roles.. first?

    I'm moving several 9iR2 databases onto new hardware with 11GR2 64bit.
    One of them has only a couple of users, roles etc. so I pre-create all the tablespaces, users, etc. then import with 11G imp utility using fromuser=user1,user2 etc. in the parfile.
    Another has an application front end that creates a database user for all the application users, and assigns certain roles etc. So I have dozens of users on this database, along with various roles as well. I'm wondering what the best way to approach this one is, so I'm thinking:
    Do I do a import full=y, and let the import create all the users roles etc. ? *I already pre-created all the tablespaces when I created the empty database with DBCA
    Do I generate the ddl for all the users and roles, run it on the new db first, then import with fromuser=user1,user2..?
    Do I import full=y for trial run, then when ready to import final production data, drop users that have data with cascade option, recreate these users and import their schemas only?
    Keep in mind that I am doing several "rehearsals" on this, importing from full exp files on the current production database, for users to test the app against and also to debug my import commands,scripts etc. so this will be a one command process when I am ready to do the final import.
    I'm asking all of this because I'm wondering if its just ok to do full=y when upgrading, (I usually don't)
    I'm assuming all the system etc. tables in the 11G are just left alone when ignore=y parameter is used.

    I tried importing the full database from the 11G gui's import from export files option, but it kept failing, so I imported just the schema's I wanted. That worked ok, and all the database users accounts and roles were also imported, not sure how that happened or if it was when I attempted the full import. In any case I got the database schemas I wanted over, but noticed a lot of invalid views that would not compile, so a further check showed that none of the applications public synonyms came over. Running a simple create script on dba_synonyms on the prod database fixed that and its all good now, but I'm wondering why the synonyms never came across with the import?

  • Import Audio into Garageband on iPhone 4s

    Hello,
    I am hoping that I can get some assistance with this really annoying issue I am having.
    I would like to import my own audio/music files into Garage Band on my iPhone 4s.
    Basically I want to be able to plug my iRig in, open GarageBand, import my chosen song/audio stems and jam away.
    I am a bit of a novice with this so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
