First Site in Dreamweaver - IE compatibility problem

I've just recently updated to Dreamweaver (from Expression Web).
I made my own template so that all my links, footer, and header, are easy.
When I published the site, looks fine in Firefox. But in IE... you only get the background.
http://www.oldsettlersdays.com
Anyone have any suggestions on what I've done or  haven't done, I've never had this problem before.
Thanks
Kerri

On Line 9, your embedded stylesheet begins
<style type="text/css">
<!--
(where <!-- is the starting point for a HTML comment)
The stylesheet ends at line 184 with
</style>
i.e. there is no closing --> to close the HTML comment so IE thinks the entire page code from that point to the end is a comment. In other words, there is no page content in IE's eyes.
(If you view the page code in DW Code View, you'll see that it's all grey until line 214 where Dreamweaver sees a "-->")
The fix is to add a closing comment delimiter just before the closing </style>:
Change
#h-navbar a:hover {
color: #FFF;
background-color: #3A5A89;
</style>
to
#h-navbar a:hover {
color: #FFF;
background-color: #3A5A89;
-->
</style>

  • Within last week I am unable to log on to Bank of America online banking. I have followed all suggested prior recommendations to the best of my ability but problem persists. BofA first told me it was a compatibility problem they were having with Mozilla

    I cannot log onto Bank of America website from Firefox. This problem started recently. At first BofA said they have a compatibility problem with new version of Firefox. Then they say no, it's a Firefox problem. I've tried the solutions listed in prior threads but none work. I have no problem logging onto BofA via IE.
    == URL of affected sites ==
    http://www.bankofamerica.com

    I got this problem when I upgraded to ver 3.6.12 from 3.6.11. I called BofA and after half an hour on phone, they told me to try using another browser. I used Intenet Explorer & they couldn't find the BofA site either. BofA had been told the problem was with any Firefoz version of 3 or higher. After I got off the phone with BofA, I downloaded an older version that I had been using without any problems & installed that.(3.5.15) That didn't work either.
    If the problem is with Firefox, why can't Internet Explored find the site either?

  • Problems previewing all my sites using Dreamweaver 8 both CF and html.

    I have restored my hard drive (from a previous Ghost image)
    and now encounter problems previewing all my sites using
    Dreamweaver 8 both CF and html.
    If I preview (using localhost:8500) I get the message "Unable
    to connect, Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at
    localhost:8500." IE has similar message.
    If I preview (using 127.0.0.1 instead of localhost:8500) I
    get the page but no images or CSS loads.
    An address such as:
    http://127.0.0.1/CFIDE/gettingstarted/experience/index_content.cfm
    loads just fine - seems CF is working okay.
    All the sites used for testing locally have been used for
    some time (years) and work on my unrestored drive.
    My thoughts: after I restored my hard drive image I installed
    both Norton Antivirus 2007 and resintalled ZoneAlarm. I uninstalled
    both of the programs but the problem remains.
    Any help is much appreciated. I have spent the last two days
    trying to get this to work and as many of you can identify with...I
    am supposed to be working....!

    Hi,
    JSF 1.1 doesn't coexist nicely with HTML components.
    So if your goal is to build layouts in HTML then this
    will not produce the result you want
    Skins in 10.1.3 are slightly different than in 11
    (selectors may have changed their names). If you need
    to specify the class property to make skins work then
    this indicates that the skin selectors you use are
    not the correct ones.
    FrankHi Frank,
    thank you for your help, I'm replacing every html component with adf one, panelGroup, panelHorizontal, panelBorder, objectImage etc... etc... but I have a problem...
    I need to put an object component about Macromedia Flash and I cannot find any adf component to replace it. Any idea please?
    Thank you again.
    Ciao.

    I cannot create a new Business Catalyst site with Dreamweaver CC 2014 (Mac). The error message states that Dreamweaver cannot connect with server, try again later. In addition, I am also unable to load remotely a previously created Business Catalyst site as it says there is something wrong with my username or password. However when I put my password in and press test connection, it says it has connected successfully. What is going wrong and how can I fix this problem?
    Thanks

    Hi Ozy08,
    Can you try the solutions mentioned in Re: Can't Login to Business Catalyst within Dreamweaver CS6?

  • Dreamweaver Newbie making first site.  Trying to figure out this CSS thing...

    This is my first attempt and first site with DW and am having some newbie issues.  The website is www.accuvisionvideo.com.  The site is based on a DW template I picked up from a website.  If you go to the page you will see a menu on the left hand side and the body of the page mostly in the middle.  I am using Studio VII pop menu magic for that menu.  I want to make the thing horizontal, but still keep the side bar area (the photos and such underneath the menu)  However when I make the menu horizontal it removes everything from the left side space and does not give me the option to work in there any more.  How do I place images and text in the left column?  If I am not mistaken its a CSS thing...Also is there anyway to place images anywhere on the page.  Now when I insert an image it seems to have to be either fltlft or fltrt, I can't put multiple images on the same line?   Anyway I know these are noob questions, thank for any help guys.

    The PVII menu will insert into any div on your page.  What you need to do is create a brand new div just below your header div and insert the pvii menu into that div.  This way the new div won't take any styles from any of the current div styles on the page.
    If the images are too wide, they will drop down to the next line (like the images at the bottom of the entry page now.)
    the fltlft and fltrt,are classes, that float and image to the left or to the right, so you can have text surrounding the image.
    Also, for such a simple page you have over 78 errors when you put the page throught he html validator:
    http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.accuvisionvideo.com%2F
    The majority of them will certainly need fixing before creating any further pages using a similar layout.
    Just notice this also:
    .style5
                                        font-family :
                                        "Charlemagne Std";
                                        font-size :
                                        xx-large;
                                        color :
                                        #000000;
    That's not a web-safe font, if someone doesn't have that on their system, they will not see that font, they'll be served the default font
    of their browser set.

    There's nothing pretty about the code iWeb generates.  It's a sea of <div> tags and inline styles that expert coders would find difficult to work with. So yes.  Re-building your site in DW with an external CSS file is an excellent idea .

  • Site Launched - Is this a problem?

    I'm new to Dreamweaver and just built my first site -
    www.NapaTouristGuide.com. When I was building it I checked it on a
    widescreen monitor, my regular monitor, and a laptop. Not really
    knowing what I was doing, I dd not realize that there was a smaller
    width screen than my 1280 laptop. So I spent a year building the
    site, and now I see that it's too wide for those with a 1028
    screen.
    QUESTIONS:
    1. Are there many old 1028 screens still out there? If they
    are going extinct the way the box image on a TV is going out, maybe
    I don't worry about it?
    2. Is there any easy way to have Dreamweaver resize the pages
    without having to mess with all the other code? It was quite a
    challenge to get the pages to look perfect (ie: not have huge gaps
    at the bottom of the page before the footer), so I am dreading
    having to basically go back and reformat it.
    Any help would be appreciated!

    Nope.
    And by the way, the problem you have is not so much a
    resolution issue as it
    is a browser viewport width issue. The page will throw
    exactly the same
    scrollbars on a maximized browser viewport on a 1024 screen
    as it does on a
    1000px wide viewport on a 1800x1280 screen.
    It's a nice looking page for the first website, but you have
    a number of
    coding errors there, e.g.,
    </head>
    <center>
    <body bgcolor="#C0DFFD"
    onload="MM_preloadImages('reynoldsfamily_800.jpg')">
    The list is about 105 more long -

  • Dreamweaver & Contribute Administration Problem

    I've got an odd scenario for a client site that I
    inherited after several other developers were involved over the
    past 2 years... I fear that the one who created the Contribute
    Administration interface is the one where there are some other
    legal problems involved, and there is no relationship left. If I
    contacted them, they would not cooperate. Sad but true.
    What I want to do is remove the previous Contribute linkage
    and then reinstall a new Contribute site administration that I can
    drive henceforth. I use Dreamweaver MX 2004 (still) and have no
    problem at all in accessing a client site via FTP, but the second
    problem is that I don't actually have total access to the hosting
    server panel as usually is the case. So, if this is going to
    involve deleting specific files, I'll need to know what to look for
    (if it's within my view) or what to direct the hosting contractor
    to find & delete.
    I presently update all content on the existing site design,
    but that's not very efficient and it's expensive at my rates for me
    to doing the day-to-day content update that the client could easily
    manage themselves via Contribute. Every time I first access the
    server via Dreamweaver FTP to upload new files, I'm prompted about
    enabling Contribute connectivity. I have Contribute, but don't have
    this client's Contribute Administration keys or details. Those are
    forever lost, I'm afraid.
    I've recently redesigned the site, and it would be ideal to
    enable my client to use Contribute. However, I'm caught in a loop
    since there is no way to access the orignal Contribute site keys.
    How can I find and remove the existing Contribute Administration,
    then reinstall Contribute with new Contribute Administration of the
    site? If I try to administer the site via Dreamweaver (Manage Site
    - Contribute tab), once it checks through the cache, I get an error
    that says "Could not find a page at the specified site root URL.
    Please check the site root URL." I'm wondering if the previous
    developer may have actually deleted something just to be nasty...
    they were pretty vile and unprofessional about a lot of things.
    This is far from the typical scenario I'm used to where I
    always have total control over the hosting environment, too.
    However, relative to an e-commerce component of their site, when
    I've had issues and knew what to ask for, the site hosts have been
    pretty responsive. I might be able to ask for specific files to be
    removed if I could only know what to direct them to do.
    Any ideas? Many thanks.

    Alternative:
    download the contribute.xml file and open it in a text
    editor.
    There is a way to reset the contribute Admin password if you
    get this far
    and want to leave the setup as-is but don't know the
    password.
    i can google for the answer i've given in the past, short
    version of what i
    remember, look in the .xml file for
    password="randomcharacters" and change
    it to password="" meaning password has no contents.
    upload the contribute.xml file to same location on the remote
    server.
    then login using contribute admin, and when prompted for
    password don't type
    anything, just hit enter key. Then reset the password.

    Together with John's reply, this gives a strong clue. It looks as though the site root is incorrectly defined. See http://forums.adobe.com/thread/478327.

  • Adding a local site to Dreamweaver CC that is through a mapped network drive breaks ALL connections

    I am using Dreamweaver CC on Windows 8 on a machine that is hooked up to a local network. My site files are stored on another drive on that network and I am mapped to that drive. I have always been able to open in individual file from that drive in Dreamweaver. But I noticed that with one site I am working on, Dreamweaver would hang trying to make minor revisions to the PHP code. It was suggested to me to add the whole folder as a local site in Dreamweaver, so I did. At first I thought it was moving along much better -- no hanging while I was typing code. Then suddenly I realized I could not save the files. I was no longer connected to the drive I was working on. Even outside of Dreamweaver, I was unable to access the drive. I thought it was a network issue. I rebooted the computer and opened a Windows Explorer folder and was able to access the drive. Then I opened Dreamweaver again and the connection was lost.
    To test my theory, I rebooted again, accessed the drive, waited a little while, accessed the drive, then opened Dreamweaver and it was lost. I tried this several times, each with the same result.
    Then I went into Dreamweaver, removed the site from Dreamweaver and rebooted. I accessed the drive, opened Dreamweaver, and voila... I could still access the drive. So I tried adding the site back to Dreamweaver and I cannot access the drive after opening Dreamweaver again.
    Without having the site in Dreamweaver, the files/Dreamweaver hangs EVERY TIME I TYPE CODE. Adding a site on a mapped local network drive BREAKS MY CONNECTION and disables my ability to work on the files. Is there a reason for this and more importantly, is there a fix? It seems like a very specific but illogical problem.
    My next step is to find and install my old Homesite 4.5.
    Thanks in advance for any useful advice!

    mpendill wrote:
    I surely did not knowing change anything within the software!
    I just tried adding another site. It seems like it is setting it up and reading the files but then at the end (apparently just as the connection breaks), it gives me these errors:
    Cannot create [SITE NAME].
    and
    The local root folder, [FOLDER NAME], does not exist. Please select a new local root folder by clicking the Manage Sites button.
    (I changed the out the actual site name and folder name above.)
    I believe these were the same errors I got with the other site. At the time I was pushing a deadline and was too frantic to write it down.
    Not that I think it has any relevance, but both sites are Wordpress sites.
    Maybe what I should try next is mapping a different drive and trying to set up a site from there?
    For that error you want you can try mapping it but it seems your sites root is just not defined... what DW is telling you is it could not find the specified folder when its trying to establish the new site. You might want to make sure your folder is there and all the spelling is correct, when making sure go your your Site Manager and make sure your root site is in your network drive.

  • Downloading and editing an existing WordPress site in Dreamweaver CS5.

    Hello! New to the forums, here.
    I'll try to be brief. I've got a WordPress site in-place at metalmeter.com that is hosted through HostGator. Basically, what I'm looking to do is get the site from the remote server and edit it in Dreamweaver CS5, previewing all changes on a local testing server before putting the updated contents back on the remote server.
    Now, let me be clear: I've tried plenty of the tutorials. I've watched hours of videos. I still can't get it configured properly. I've got the FTP connection to the remote server running smoothly. I've got XAMPP installed. I'm having difficulties (and I apologize for being vague), and I just don't know where the problem is located. In my htdocs folder for XAMPP, I've got two subfolders 'metalmeter' for the remote server's downloaded contents, and 'wordpress' for the wordpress installation that every page seems to be pointing me toward. What confuses me is that when I try and open the uppermost index.php file on the remote server, the dynamically discovered content is not being displayed in the live view with my local testing server. I want to be viewing my existing WordPress site in its entirety exactly as I see it online while I'm editing it, and then pushing back updated files to the /public_html/ root directory of the remote server so that I can edit the site from my local client. I'm extremely new to Dreamweaver, so any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.
    If you know how to do exactly what I'm trying to do and have been successfully viewing and editing your existing WordPress site in Dreamweaver for upload, please take some time to explain the set-up. I'd be forever in your debt!

    I've been following this discussion for a while now and I don't understand why you hope to edit articles from DW.  That's what the WP Admin panel is specifically designed for.  Besides, you won't find your articles in any of the site files because they don't exist there.
    I agree I don't see any reason to want to edit a Wordpress site in Dreamweaver. If you are using Wordpress then you may as well put Dreamweaver in the bin. Although people do actually want to edit and manipulate the design in Dreamweaver (including myself) and from what I've read its possible but I've never found a source which explains fully how to achieve this and those that I have it seems too much effort to even bother about.
    I guess the Dreamweaver environment feels more like home and is more user friendly.
    To put it another way, a typical WordPress installation contains around 800 files in some 80 folders.  Those files don't contain any content, just a whole lot of PHP code.   In fact, the only page most people ever see on your site is the index.php page which is dynamically created over & over by the server with content from the MySql and various include files.
    For sure and that's why people who use Dreamweaver and feel the need to manipulate a Wordpress site in Dreamweaver because Wordpress is 'in vogue' get lost. Wordpress just containes a lot of pages with nothing to see apart from some php, many of who will not understand one jot.
    Unless you're a coding guru, you should definitely NOT touch any of the core WP files as this could cripple your site.  If you want to customize your Theme, look at the CSS and include files in your Themes folder.   See Anatomy of a WordPress Theme:http://yoast.com/wordpress-theme-anatomy/
    lol your not wrong there!
    For a quick tip on Theming, open your remote site in Firefox equipped with the 'Web Developer Toolbar'.  Edit CSS on screen.  Save changes to your local site and upload it to the remote server.  No testing server required.
    Wordpress is Wordpress and Dreamweaver is Dreameaver. As far as I can make out the two don't mix.
    Ideally you would just choose a Wordpress theme which most relates to the nice site you have designed in Fireworks of which you won't find any however goodthe themes are. Then manipulate the themes css that's if you can understand it. Even for a seasoned css expert its heavy going because everyone produces css differently to achieve the same results.
    Leave Wordpress well anlone unles you're going to use it out of the box so to speak or as a web-developer don't mind a bit of reverse engineering.

    How does on add a photo gallery to a web site in Dreamweaver CS5 and have the file folder which contains the photos, recognized as the "go to location" for the link up?

    Ok.  So Photos1.htm is the main gallery page.
