FirstClass app blocked?

Under 10.4.11, FirstClass desktop client worked fine. Under 10.5, I can no longer seem to connect to my FC server. I've tried setting FirstClass to be "allowed incoming connections", and have even tried "allow all incoming". The problem seems to be that I can't even get "outgoing" packets destined to port 510.
I've tried Wireshark, and while I can see packets connecting to the server on port 80 (the web login), it shows no outgoing or incoming packets when I try the desktop client (which can be set to either port 510 [tcp] or port 810 [udp]). Even using telnet (which allows a "basic" FC interface) cannot generate outgoing packets on port 510.
My firewall logs show nothing being blocked.
Is anyone else seeing this? It's been suggested I turn off FC's encryption, but this doesn't work either, and I didn't expect it to, considering there were no outgoing packet in the first place (so it's not like they were rejecting my connection).
FirstClass itself says they can't help me, because I'm not an administrator, and my local server IT says they don't officially support the mac anyway, so they can't help me either.

Further details. If I use "Utilities/Network Utility", and I use the "port scan" function, I get zero outgoing packets when attempting to scan port 510 on the server.
What's even stranger, if I try another firstclass server, "edu.yorku.ca", I get outgoing packets. It's almost like my system can't figure out the route when using port 510 (but just for certain IPs!), but has no problems figuring it out if it's trying the EXACT same ip on port 80!
Argh!

  • Why is the Weather Channel app blocked in OSX?

Every attempt I've made this evening to install a The Weather Channel app on this computer has been blocked.
The app is fine on iOS..
    What gives??

Because iOS App's for iDevices are not made to run in OS X.
Also > The Weather Channel App for Windows with Current Conditions, Local Alerts, and Radar, will not work because it is only for Windows desktops.
You can however get the > The Weather Channel Widget for your OS X Desktop and then easily access Weather.com from it.

  • Notes app blocks text under keyboard

Does anyone else have this problem in the notes app?
When I type a note that reaches the bottom of the screen, the keyboard blocks the text and I can no longer see what i am typing. The only way I can see the text is to hit return a couple of times so that I can scroll the text above the keyboard. Without adding additional lines, the app won't  let you position the last line of text being typed above the keyboard.
Shouldn't the program do this automatically based on cursor position?

I wish I could edit the title because this only happens in split keyboard mode on the ipad mini.
After I posted I saw similar questions, but I don't think I should have to change my keyboard setting as "work around".

  • Wifi-using Apps blocking 4G LTE network and can't make or receive calls. Any solutions?

Please note: I can make and receive calls right now, but I was having a significant issue earlier yesterday and today. So, I kind of want to give a heads up to others and see if anyone has experienced this and discovered the root cause of the problem.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3. I got it about a month or so ago. Within the last 24 hours, I have experienced issues with calling out and receiving calls. When someone tries to call me, it rings and rings, and goes to voicemail without it ever showing up as a recent call. It was determined that part of the issue is likely having to do with an App or multiple Apps that use my Wifi connection at home and is blocking the 4G LTE network. However, I wasn't really given a perma-solution to it. It's "trial and error" I guess. But, this could be a potential hazard and I would really like to figure it out once and for all. If anyone has any suggestions, I would love to discover more about this issue and a perma-solution.
Here's what I did with customer service's help:
On the phone, turn the Wifi setting off.
Dial #832. If successful, dial another number and see if you can complete the call.
If you can complete the call, turn the Wifi setting back on.
Try dialing #832 again. If successful, try another number again and see if you can complete the call.
If you cannot complete the call successfully, try long-pressing the HOME button at the bottom of the device. All running apps should show up. Click CLOSE ALL.
Try calling #832 and the other number again to see if the calls can be completed.
If the calls can't be completed, call Customer Service, or if your phone is your only mode of communication, do a live chat via a laptop/desktop.
In the meantime, I did test having several apps open that do use Wifi, the 4G LTE indicate isn't showing up, but I seem to be able to make calls right now. Otherwise, for the sake of safety, does anyone out there have any solutions or know what App(s) or setting(s) may be the root cause of the problem?
    Thanks!

Told me to try *228. I told him Verizon Tech support told me not to do that. I'm sooo confused. :-(
If you are using a Bionic or any other 4G phone, you do not dial *228 to update your Preferred Roaming List ... that is handled automatically by the phone's SIM card.  To force an update, you can turn off the phone, remove the SIM card, wait a few minutes, then replace the SIM card, turn the phone back on, and allow a few minutes for it to re-establish a connection.
However, as noted by the Verizon rep, if you check the Verizon coverage map, there isn't any coverage in area code 79834.  I've no explanation as to why your neighbor's phone works.

  • EA6500 and Blocking Apps/Blocking Ports

So I bought the EA6500 yesterday, to replace my E3200.
Formerly, with the E3200, I was able to block applications on the router admin page, without blocking all internet access, under the "Access Restrictions" Tab. I could create access policies that allowed internet access to specific devices, while blocking port ranges/protocols for specific applicatons. while this didn't work for Skype, which jumps from one port to the other until it finds an open one, it worked perfectly for World of Warcraft. the primary target of my restrictions.
in common with the old setup for the E3200, the new cloud login allows me to block internet access completely to a device. it also allows me to block websites to my heart's content, an improvement upon the old system, which stopped at four. but to my great surprise, it will not allow me to specify port blockages for specific apps for specific devices.
amazingly, hile the new EA6500 is blessed with the added capability of actually recognizing applications by name, *it is only to give them greater priority*. the Media Prioritization tab lets you give a ton of your bandwith to specific apps, but won't let you throttle or block them.
Is there some way to work around this? Some alternative firmware? again, I don't want/need to block all internet access to a particular computer. I only need to block some apps (World of Warcraft, and Skype, possibly some torrents) by closing some ports.
    Is this possible?
    -Desperate in L.A.

Why would they need to take away that feature? it seems I'm not the only one who wondered at this omission...

  • Mail.app blocked from Keychain access by Sandboxd

Working on a clean install of Yosemite. Worked perfect for the first 2 weeks. Then mail all of a sudden cannot send without putting in admin creds for keychain access. I have done all the keychain resets, removed the account and re-added it. Obviously there has to be a way to add an application to trusted status for Security Server/sandbox to allow it access. The question is where and how.

The log message is the same, along the lines of "Mail(xxx) deny authorization-right-obtain system.keychain.modify".

  • Mail app blocks my internet connection

    Hi everybody!
I've got this strange problem. When my default Mail app is opened and I'm trying to read my e-mails, suddenly the whole connection is ruined. I can't browse any pages in Safari, neither in Firefox. However Skype is working. When I force quit Maill app everything backs to normality in about a minute.
What's the issue? Could you help me? I would be thankful, because it's a very frustrating issue...
    EDIT: Sparrow did that too...

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • What apps block trackpad gestures.?

I just realized that I can not use trackpad gestures (scrolling, punching)in my primary user account on my. Mac.  Gestures et al seem to work fine on my "alternate" user account I created fresh to use for troubleshooting). Migrated my prime account from my older Mac to my current new Mac. I could not use gestures on my older Mac. So seems to me there is a setting or software which blocks gestures in my user account.
Has anyone else experienced this?  What account settings or software could be doing this?  I removed al log in start up items except for Dropbox  and an"Adobe Synchronizer"   I don't know what that is so  did not want to remove.
Your ideas are welcome as I am stumped.

The aluminum Macbook Pro does not include any more multitouch trackpad gestures than the unibody white Macbook does.
