"Fit to disc" option in DVDSP?

Is there a way in DVD Studio Pro that you can say "OK, there's 6GB of movie assets here, can you decide whats the best bitrate to use to fit to a standard DVD disc and go ahead and build and format?"
In Sony Vegas I seem to remember there being such an option and you could click that option and Vegas would build it with the right bitrate and settings.
Can DVDSP do it?
Thanks,,

DVDSP does not do this. Here is a link that will help explain compressions for you.

  • Way to "fit to disc" a movie longer than 2 hours?

Is this possible in iDVD 08? If not, how to go about it in Toast? If the movies in question are NOT VOB / VIDEO_TS folders from a DVD, etc. but are .avi for instance?
    Thanks, Deborah

This is possible in Roxio Toast (Fit to Dvd option) and DVDSP but not iDvd since the latter app doesn't yet have a fit to DVD option per se.
Let me qualify this in that iDvd can at times allow for a few minutes over and above the advertised 2 hour limit; depending on other items added or not to the finished Dvd (for example, motion menus, slideshows, data to the dvd-rom section, etc.) All of these consume disc space and thereby reduce available run time and disc space.
On a separate note, is it possible to trick iDvd?
I know for a fact it is. But not always with anticipated / expected results. Hence the recommendation not to exceed 120 mins. max (2 hours) for best results. If you do not follow this recommendation, then the quality of playback will suffer significantly.
So what do I mean by tricking iDvd?
Let me give an example. In prior versions of iDvd media choices were once limited to single layer DVD-R (minus media mainly). + Plus media was reserved for data. And using DVD-RW was nearly out of the question (due mainly to low surface reflectivity of this particular media). However, we quikly learned that it was to possible to write to DVD-RW media through what we called a "bait and switch" operation.
When the drive prompted us to insert the dvd-r into the S-Drive after hitting the burn button in iDvd, .... we would. But a few seconds later, once it accepted the dvd, we'd simply hit the eject key again (or F12) prior to stage 4 burn cycle and remove the dvd-r in favor of Dvd-RW. Worked fine most of the time like a charm. Did apple recommend this at the time? Probably not.

  • Is There a Fit-to-Page Option in Scan?

When I scanned a government form that is on an 8.5" x 11" sheet, but has only a 1/4" left, right, top margins and 1/8" bottom margin, the preview showed the bottom 1.5" of the form and part of the text on the side margins cut off.
I selected the "Save as PDF*" option.
I could not find a Fit-to-Page or Reduction-by-Percentage options in the Scan settings. I found "Letter Portrait (8.5 x 11)" and "Entire Scan Area" options.  I tried each one with the same result stated above.  The "Custom Scan Size" option provided for selecting a specific Width and Length, which would have been 8.5 and 11, the same as had been previously used, therefore it was not tested.
I need all of the text on the sheet to show.

    Hello @Erislandy,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I would like to assist you today with scanning the 8.5 x 11 inch sheet on your HP Officejet 5740 e-All-in-One Printer successfully without cutting off portions of the text. To resolve this issue I did some testing of my own on the Officejet 5740 printer I have here, and the following are my findings.
First, I checked into the specifications of your printer. I found that the maximum scan size through the automatic document feeder on your machine is 8.5 x 14 inches. The maximum scan size for the flatbed is 8.5 x 11.7 inches. After finding this information I performed scan tests through both the automatic document feeder and flatbed to verify if there was a significant difference in the settings.
Test 1: I chose the Save as PDF option. I set the Scan Size to Entire Scan Area and loaded the letter size sheet of paper in the automatic document feeder.
This image had a lot of blank space at the bottom and top of the sheet to account for the 8.50 x 14 inch scan size.
Test 2: I chose the Save as PDF option. I set the Scan Size to Entire Scan Area and loaded the letter size sheet of paper on the flatbed.
There is a bit of blank space at the bottom of the sheet.
Test 3: I then ran the scan tests for the 'Save as PDF' option with the Scan Size set to letter for both the automatic document feeder and the flatbed. Both tests came out almost identical.
At no time were the margins changed to cut off the text on the report.
This got me thinking that perhaps a setting conflict was occuring that was causing the text on your scanned image to crop down to a size.
If you open the HP Scan software on your computer and click Advanced Settings on the bottom left, please make sure that the Auto Crop option is not selected.
Once Auto Crop has been disabled, please click OK and perform your scan again. I found that when I ran the same test scan with Auto Crop enabled the margins were cut off. In regards to a Fit-To-Page option, there is no such setting within the software.
Please respond to this post with the result of checking your scan settings. Should the issue persist, can you please clarify if you're scanning through the flatbed, or the automatic document feeder on your product. I look forward to hearing from you!

Even when I select a playlist, I cannot find the burn disc option under the file tab.  How do I go about finding it?  It has always worked previously, or at least until the latest version of Itunes installed.

  • Cyberlink media suite does not have copy disc option

My PC came with Cyberlink Media Suite 10. The first month I had it, I was able to access a main menu in the program which gave me a copy disc option. That option is no longer available on the main menu. Does anyone know if there is a trial period for a full version of the software? Any suggestions for a free disc burning program?

You could use Ashampoo Burning Studio Free:
    https://www.ashampoo.com/en/usd/pin/7110/burning-software/Ashampoo-Burning-Studio-FREE
You may be pestered into purchasing a paid version though.  I use a paid version and it works well.

  • Header font goes out of column width in fit to page option for print

    Hi,
I've tried to print wide report as landscape with fit to page option. it printed out good but when i saw column header, header has missed some words.for e.g my column name is "Legacy Order" and it's showing only "Legacy Or" even i wrapped that column. it's works fine with 90% scalling option.i'm still confusing because there are over 1000 reports existed and i think i will have to touch all reports to print correctly.Older version took cares all of those things.
Any idea would be great for me.

Can anybody help with this problem.
I right click on my playlists and am not getting a burn disc or burn playlist to disc option.
Is there another way i can try and burn a disc?

This may be caused by the changes that Ubuntu makes.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • V10.4 Absent Backup to Disc Option

Thought we lived in a society where the customer really matters?  Then why the H*** did you remove the backup to disc option  in V 10.4 without any warning or consideration of the customer community......oh and thanks for providing some alternatives.

  • The "Burn to Disc" option in iTunes 11. Why can't a certain playlist burned to a disc?

I created a new playlist from my library and the burn to disc option is not available.  What would cause this?

I've found a partial work around.  This works with all movies and also music albums with "parental guidance advisory" icons.
In Films, first click the "ratings and reviews" link.  Obviously nothing happens, then click on the certificate rating of the film, eg. 12 PG etc.( Just below the film's title )  This takes you to an explanation page for certs and what they stand for.  Click the back button, and when you return to the movie page you were looking at, you'll see the reviews.
To go back to the "Details" or "Related" page, just repeat the process.
In Albums, click the "ratings and reviews link, then the parental advisory icon, then click the back button.....
    Hope this helps.

  • KDE: margins incorrect when printing because of fit-to-page option

I'm attempting to print a PDF file with Okular (happens with other KDE/Qt applications as well) to my HP Deskjet D2530 printer. The PDF has one inch margins on all sides, but when printing, additional space is added to the margins.
The page prints perfectly using lp:
    $ lp /Path/to/PDF.pdf
Should also note it prints perfectly with non-KDE applications such as epdfview.
I turned on debug mode in CUPS to find what options KDE sends to CUPS. I narrowed it down to the "fit-to-page" option causing the issue.
I can reproduce the incorrect margins exactly with this command:
    $ lp -o fit-to-page -o PageSize=Letter /Path/to/PDF.pdf
Now the issue I'm having is disabling this. I see nowhere in the KDE print dialog to disable fit-to-page, and have searched CUPS' documentation for a way to disable it on that end, but could not find anything. Searching for this issue has similiarly turned up nothing. I've also tried adding "fit-to-page=false" to ~/.cups/lpoptions with no result. I can't be the only one who has dealt with this. Is there some configuration option I'm missing somewhere or should I report this as a bug upstream?

    hello!
    i have a similar problem:
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 3#p1402373
for me the fit to page cmdline option does not apply and the output is always bigger than one page ... same goes for print menues with the option to turn on/off fit to page ...

  • Printing problem: "fit to page" option does not work, even from cmd

    hello!
i am switching a company over to linux, that's why i am trying to make it shine as much as possible!
unfortunately i have to explain why something as simple as printing an email to one page instead of 1 and half isn't working...
no matter what i always get the same layout ... through
    a) print menues which give me the option to scale to page e.g. firefox's print menue or
    b) command line with the option found in (http://localhost:631/help/options.html#FIT_TO_PAGE)
    lp -o fit-to-page filename
    lpr -o fit-to-page filename
they both do not result in a scaled to one page output, instead i get the same result a print without any extra configuration gives me (2 pages).
i don't know where to report this problem!?
since i don't know whether it is an arch, Canon, CUPS or postscript problem ...
    my setup is:
    manjaro/arch linux (latest packages)
    CUPS 1.7.1
canon imagerunner irc2880 - printer language = postscript
    gnome 3.10
(i use the canon "cque" aur package to get the only working ppd for this printer (cel-irc2880-ps-de.ppd) [working = print both b/w & color] ... ps stands for postscript.
pls help or direct me to the right channels
    THANK YOU

i have checked with another printer ... same problem
can anyone with firefox tell me whether the checked checkbox
"ignore scaling and fit to page" or something (mine is german) under:
    firefox -> print... -> options
    works for you?

  • In Encore 3, I can't compress an AVI to make it fit on disc.

I'm not 100% certain now, off the top of my head, but I thought that version 1.5 would compress it for me automatically. I would select your rom content source (the AVI) and then build it to DVD without a hitch.
I've been trying to do the same thing in Encore 3, but the problem is that the source AVI is 5.3 Gb and it won't compress the AVI automatically to 4.7 for fitting on a standard DVD. Setting the Disc info size to 4.7 doesn't seem to help.
What can I do? How can I compress the AVI to fit it on a DVD?
Thanks in advance for any responses.
EDIT P.S. I was mistaken about ver 1.5 - it will not compress for me either. So, the question remains, is there a way in Encore to compress an avi to a desired filesize for copying to DVD disc?

    John,
I agree with you, but still felt that I needed to rule out any form of authoring going on. Early references to using Encore for similar puzzled me.
You know, sometimes I ask too many questions, and sometimes not enough. I just went on and on, about  Aspect Ratio and PAR in another forum, thinking that the screen-cap I was seeing was in the Timeline, and we were looking at the Program Monitor. No, this was the resultant still Frame Capture, so all of the details and instructions that I had typed were moot. Duh!
Now, for archiving large AV files (though not in a form that can be directly played back), there are some "spanning" programs, that will write a file to multiple DVD-5's, or DVD-9's. That backup/imaging program that you use will probably do this, though one could not play the file, until they unarchived it to the HDD. Don't know how this would work for the OP.
    Good luck to all,
    Hunt

  • What are best output options in DVDSP for playback on VGA Computer Screen?

I understand that DVDs were designed to be viewed on TV sets - not computer monitors with much higher resolution than a TV set.
However .... I'm curious what the best output options are within DVDSP3 for playback on a standard 19" VGA computer screen 1024x768 and not necessarily on a TV screen. Any ideas?
Will DVDSP3 address playback on a standard VGA computer screen any better than iDVD6? .... or are they both very much the same?
    Here's my objective:
MiniDV>FCP HD >DVD SP3>DVD-R / Playback on VGA 19" Monitor only (no TV involved).
    or...
MiniDV>iMovie6>iDVD6>DVD-R / Playback on VGA 19" Monitor only.
    TIA
    SDMacuser

George - I'm not a web designer, so I'm probably not the best person to respond but here goes anyway (FWIW):
(anywhere from 10sec to 2min) for website visitors to play (but not download). There can be multiple audios per web page.
No problem. QuickTime. X-platform and you can set whether it's downloadable or not - but that's really moot, as anything on the web can be captured, especially with the 'analog loophole' such as WireTap or Audio Hi Jack.
I need a combination of buttons from very simple round (or square 20x20 pix) to a bar style with volume control, both with the option to change the color to fit my site.
Buttons are your business - nothing to do with playback functionality. They are usually just a link to a file - your site should be set up to play anything, by anything, that's clicked on… Flash, QT whatever
a player that runs from my site and not somebody else's.
So you're hosting? I'd hate to go down that path… what if your site takes off? What if it goes down? You'd never handle the bandwidth. IMO better to buy inexpensive (but competent) hosting for $10 or so per month and avoid the headaches, and expand the hosting service as and when required.
    See here for example:
    http://soundpropaganda.com/blog/loudness.html
I have QT files, not downloadable (well, supposedly) from text links (check the green "Here's" links). The link method (graphic, text, whatever) is your design, not part of the playback system.
