Fix for audio after 10.5.8 upgrade?

Anyone heard of a fix for poor audio (all alerts are mainly crackle and static now) after upgrading to OS X 10.5.8 ?
Thanks.

I have the same with my NAS. In the beginning of Leopard the same thing happened, with the connect to the server a Finder window of the disk would open. But in the last 4-5 version everything went as it was supposed to. And now I end up with all these open windows ;-(. Annoying.
Detail, I connect using a SMB server.
Would appreciate it very much if this is solved in the near future.

My dv7 has a very bad warble in the audio after a recent automatic upgrade.  I have tried to revert the audio drivers back to a previous version but that has not helped.

    Hi Mikehow,
May I please you to write which dv7 you exactly own (e.g. a dv7-6190)? You could also post your P/N (not the S/N, please) here.
    This would really help!

  • Toshiba Thrive Tablet Broken Headphone Jack Fix For Audio Line Out

BROKEN HEADPHONE JACK SIMPLE FIX FOR TOSHIBA THRIVE TABLET:
I love my Toshiba Thrive tablet. I take it with me everywhere I go, nearly every day. I also enjoyed connecting the headphone output jack on the side to an external set of speakers. I would enjoy stereo internet, video watching and so on. I recently broke (cracked) the headphone jack on accident. For months, I heard only through the small, factory installed speakers which, is not quite what I'd call 'ideal stereo.' Has anyone else done this? Despite trying to find repair shops locally, no one will touch a tablet it seems for repair or replacement parts. It's not your usual headphone jack. But - I can tell you how to get your sound back!
    THE QUICK FIX
While browsing the internet, I found a device that by-passes the headphone jack and instead uses the internal workings of the Thrive tablet's main connection port. This port is located at the base of the unit. It will be covered by a protective, plastic tab that is removeable. Simply pry a little. This long narrow port was designed to allow you to set the entire Thrive tablet into a docking station designed for it. In this docking station are various connection pins that allow the audio to be sent out of the tablet and into the docking station. At the rear of the docking station you'll find a host of connection types:  1) audio out jack/headphone 2) USB 3) HDMI 4) 110v power supply. Simply plug your speakers or headphone cable into the new docking station and you're done! Your audio will work again. I purchased my docking station for $6.00 on Ebay.  Oddly, the unit doesn't charge very well if at all while in the docking station but I've read you can simply remove the cover from your Thrive, remove the battery physically for a few minutes, return it to it's rightful place then close the cover and this fixes the problem. It's a strange little glitche. I have yet to try this yet. I did find that if I plug the cord directly into the Thrive right side as designed, it will recharge the battery as usual. I ordered a few of these docking stations which allow me to simply set the pad down depending on where I am and it will continue to charge. The docks do not come with power outlet so you'll need to consider buying additional but it works wonderfully. There are now even wireless docking stations too!

  • Fix for iPhoto after upgrading to Yosemite

After upgrading to Yosemite I was unable to open iPhoto. I moved it to Trash (do NOT empty trash after moving it here!!!) - then go to App Store and download iPhoto. You'll want to make sure you then go to your Finder and click on the iPhoto download app in order to complete the download. When you open iPhoto it may say you need to upgrade - go ahead and do so then your photos will appear again with a new icon in your dock (remove the old one since it won't work now - the new icon will look different if you had an older version of iPhoto).
    Hope this helps!

Ok so here's what you gonna do. (had this problem myself today, and after some fiddling figured out what to do.)
Find your old iPhoto with a cross through it, right-click it and select 'show package contents'. A folder will open. In that folder go to Contents>MacOS and there will be three little things there. Click on the one called 'iPhoto' and terminal will open. Leave terminal open and wait four seconds and VOILA! iPhoto opens. Leave terminal open until you are finished with iPhoto, because if you close terminal, iPhoto will close with it. THX! ENJOY! Hope it works.
    P.S.
You can close terminal once you close iPhoto. I also suggest backing up your iPhoto library while you can.

  • Fix for crash after opening Transitions Window?

I am working on a small project with a few standard def avi files and some still jpgs. When I click on Window-->Transitions, PrE 8 crashes every time and I get the dialog box to send an error report to Adobe. This is under Windows 7 64-bit. I just upgraded but had the EXACT same problem running PrE 7 under Vista 64-bit. I am really that the upgrade did not fix it. Anyone have any suggestions to stop the Transitions Window from causing a crash? My specs are PrE 8, Windows 7 64-bit, 6 GB RAM, about 500 GB free HD space, Intel core i7-920 at 2.66GHz, 512MB ATI Radeon HD 4850 Thanks.

    Steve,
Thanks for your prompt reply.  It has taken me a couple days to find the time to check out yours and others suggestions (I also posted this on Elements Village).  So, I believe the problem is solved, and was due to either too-large JPGs as you suggested or some wierd memory use by the Background Rendering (suggested on another forum) or a wierd mix of the two.  Here is what I did:
To start:  I had the Original project which was about a dozen largish (appx. 2000x1500) jpgs and several avi clips totaling maybe 3 minutes.
I made an Original-video only project by copying the Original project and simply deleting the jpgs.
I made a Test project by saving a brand new project and putting in 2 largish jpgs and 1 short avi clip on a new timeline.
I started with Background Rendering enabled (default).
My crash was that when I went to the drop down menu and selected Window->Transitions, PrE8 would crash and close.
First I checked that my Windows update and Quicktime are up to date (they are).
The test project did not crash, even with the too large photos.
The first time I deleted the photos from the  Original-video only project it crashed (yesterday).  But when I returned to it today I could not get it to crash at all (it sounds funny to say I was trying to make it crash).  So I figured great!  Then I resized my photos to 640x480, put them back in as a slideshow on the timeline and no problem at all--no crash.
Then I returned to the Original project (video plus too large jpgs) and checked to see that it still was crashing with Window->Transitions (it was).  Then I disabled Background Rendering.  I saved, closed and reopened the project and tested.  It did NOT crash  with Window->Transitions with Background Rendering disabled, even though the jpgs were too big.
I will also point out, that during this time, I discovered I could get to transitions via the orange Edit button->Transitions button in that upper right window, and this path did NOT crash in any project. I am new to Premiere Elements and am still learning how to do things so missed this alternate path the first go round.  Nonetheless, I still wanted to fix the Windows->Transitions crash issue so I do not have to remember to avoid it.
In summary then, it appears that the the crash issue occurs when I had BOTH too-large jpgs and Background Rendering enabled.  By either reducing jpg resolution within the guidelines OR turning off the rendering, the crash issue was resolved.  (Although I will probably do both in future projects).
Thanks for your help and, despite the annoyance, I see this experience has taught me several valuable things I can do to avoid crashes in the future.

  • Possible fix for audio muting when attached thru usb on stereo

First I made certain that all my audio tracks were mpeg, Secondly I turned airplane mode on. I do not know why it makes a difference but my ipod has been playing continuously for the last 2 hours now. I'm not saying that this is a permanent fix or that it will work for all ipods. It just seems to work at the moment. Good Luck.
Ipod Touch 4th Gen on Pioneer VSX-1019AH-K

Bad Call. It only played for about 3.5 hours before it muted again. I unplugged the USB cable and replugged it to start play again. If it continues to play for another 3+ hours I will be satisfied until Apple fixes the problem. I will post second results as soon as I get a mute.

  • No video (only audio) after 7.6.6 upgrade

Our QT mov files play fine locally untill the upgrade to the QT player to 7.6.6(I say locally because if we play those file through http, they are fine). We are using our own codec, so we put our codec in directory QuickTime\QTComponents. But now the QT player pops out a window and say:
Additional software required for QuickTime to playback this media. It may be available from the QuickTime Components page. If I click the cancel button, I can hear the audio, but the video is just black.
If try to debug into the codec, it seems that the image is being decoded and set to a pointer to struct PlanarPixmapInfoYUV420.
Also if I lower the hardware acceleration to disable all DirectDraw and Direct3D accleerations, then the video can be played.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanaks a lot!

Also if I lower the hardware acceleration to disable all DirectDraw and Direct3D accleerations, then the video can be played.
It may be that the computer is just a little old and you need to make that adjustment in the settings, as this article points out

  • My fix for audio "pops" problem in iMovie HD.

This might already be out there, but I thought I'd share it anyway. This is regarding the problem where you get a noticable "pop" sound between clips and transitions. Here's what I did and it worked:
In the timeline I have a number of photos and video clips. Most of the movie is going to be put to music. But for the few clips that I want to use the video, I extracted the video into a different audio line. Then I unchecked the audio button to the right of the timeline. Now when I add the transistions, I don't get that pop sound. It takes a little more time, but what else can we do until Apple fixes the problem.
    Hope this helps.

I have not encountered that problem. But it's common for little glitches like that to occur occasionally. Preferences and permissions can get corrupted. Your problem might be project related and not occur in other projects. (You can do a short test project to find out.) In any event, it probably will not appear in the project when you burn it to a DVD. For the heck of it, you might try doing a quick share to iDVD and playback your project there.
When little glitches like this develop, it often helps to delete preferences and then do a permissions repair. To delete preferences, close iMovie and trash the file named com.apple.iMovie.plist located in User (the House icon)/Library/Preferenes. Then do a permissions repair using the Disk Utility app on your Mac. This is found in the Utilties folder. In the left side of the Disk Utility window, select your Mac HD icon and then click on the Repair Permissions button. It takes about 3 or 4 minutes for your Mac to repair permissions. Once that is done, relaunch iMovie. iMovie will create a new .plist file to replace the one that you deleted.
Now see if you still have the problem.

  • Quicktime 7.2 Fix for audio/no video

I spent way too much time looking for a fix but found one thanks to QuickTimeKirk. All credit is due to him.
After loading 7.2. Go to - Hardrive
    - Library
    - Internet plugins
    - " remove the QuickTime Plugin.webplugin.
This plug-in is used by Dashboard Widgets so they may experience issues with them.
Quit and relaunch Safari after making this change and test playback again."

  • Possiable fix for errors after rel

After reading heaps of people getting BSOD and errors after a reload I have a thought.
Before you reload, remove the card. Then reload and install all other drivers first like chipset and video.
Now after all this install the card but the drivers yet, just let windows do it thing. After this ( proberly wont install anything ) reboot again. Now install the drivers.
    Hope it hel
    ps.
I just thought of this after a freinds Lan card would not work after a reload, so i removed it, reloaded then put the card back in and all is fine.

BatteriesNotIncluded: you are the man. your steps worked like a charm for me. for others trying this, I also was having the issue where the restore would just hang half to 3/4 of the way through. there was no error message, and the only way to kill it was to force quit itunes and manually reset the phone.
it was quite a time consuming fix to have to reinstall itunes, but i wish i had known about this before i tried restoring for the 6th time.
    thanks again.

  • S7400N No audio after Win 8.1 upgrade

I have an old Pavilion Slimline S7400 that had 512MB of memory and XP.   I change the memory to 2GB and then did a clean install of Win 8.1.  Everything is fine except that Win 8.1 does not see the audio.  Looking at Device Manager says the audio is installed and working and that the driver is the latest.  Is this a driver issue or am I not enabling something in Win?
    Thank you.

  • Is there a fix for Mail running very slow since upgrade to 10.8

Mail is running extremely slow since upgrade.  Open New Message window (or auto link to new email from another applicatin), click on outgoing email address field and begin to type.  Takes 15-30 secods per letter in the address to populate the field.  Click SEND and it takes up to 2 minutes to send... another 3 minutes to show up in SENT mailbox.  Sometimes completely chokes and have to Force Quit.  Have already run Disk Utility (Permissions and Directory Corruption Diagnostics and Repair), have Rebuilt the Mailboxes, have reinstalled OS 10.8 from Recovery partition.  IT IS STILL CHOKING, HANGING, AND NOT FUNCTIONING NORMALLY.  Any Ideas ??? Please help!

I have my 'Check for New Messages' set to 'Manually'.  This is a problem with setting up a New Message to send out.  I did go into settings under Composing Tab and unchecked "Automatically Complete Addresses".  This has resolved the issue of the spinning beachball when attempting to enter an email address into the "To:" field.  So, it is running at normal speed now, but I suspect there s a bug related to that setting... something that is causing a very slow background search through existing address book directory for recognizable email addresses to 'auto fill' in that field.  I have already trashed preferences for both Mail and Address Book and that did not resolve the issue, so it must be something else.  I can live without Auto Complete.  Thanks for the input!
