Flash 8 Video Switch Issue
I have a user with a dual monitor setup, and whenever he
plays a flash media file, both screens go blank for a moment, then
the left screen switches to 640x480, and the right monitor stays in
its configured rez (1280x1024). Prior to running the flash file,
the left screen also was in 1280x1024, and once the flash file is
terminated, both screens go blank for a moment, and the left screen
reverts to 1280x1024. If I drag the flash file window into the
right screen, it looks normal on that display and vice versa when
back on the left screen except its at 640x480. I've tried
uninstalling/reinstalling the complete Flash 8 package, no change.
This is driving my user mad.. What can I do to remedy this?

When I Insert a Flash Video the second drop down box is
titled Skin. I have 9 options, 3 Clear, 3 Corona, 3 Halo. The first
two types add the Play Bar on to the video which shows when
scrolled over. The third adds it to the bottom.
The Halo option is what I want, a play bar at the bottom,
however this option seems to also a black line sized border just
outside the whole of the video. I can not seem to find a way to
stop this. What folder are these play bars located in? Could I add
more to it, or use flash to modify the existing skin to change
colour or remove that border or just plain make my own?
ThanksYes. All in my flash folder. Skin is call SkinUnderAll.swf. I did notice in Dremweaver that this file does not show up in the code with the rest of the video code. When I add the video swf do I still need to add the skin file also. I was thinking that I wouldn't have to.

I created my flash video with a video skin I selected in CS4 and the skin file shows up in the same folder as the video but when I add the swf file to dreamweaver CS4 the controls that should show up underneath the video are not there. Does anyone have an answer because I'm going crazy.

This is a problem that seems to have happened after the switch to the newest version of Flash (11,2,202,228). Anyways, I've been noticing videos are fine as long as I keep them in view but if I scroll down on a page, like on Youtube for instance, or browse another window while a video is playing, when I come back to it it will start going crazy fastforwarding-like until it gets to what is supposed to be happening at this moment. I've noticed it on Youtube and also on Skype, the sound usually will continue to play if I go to another window (although there have been a few cut outs) just the video is screwed up when I return to the video, which runs on Flash. Also I used both Firefox and IE, and this happens in both, so it's not a browser problem.
I've thought that this could potentially be a virus however I can't imagine any virus would just affect Flash videos and not affect anything else, considering my computer seems to be running fine otherwise and I've already run quite a few antivirus/antimalware programs, which came up with nothing.actually, the public beta went live yesterday. you can try it here if you'd like: http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer11-3.html

I keep getting the following error message when I try to
insert flash video with a skin: "The URL cannot contain spaces or
special characters. Change the path of file name and try again."
I've changed to all lower case and eliminated spaces but to
no avail. Here is an example of the url I've entered:
media_video/SistaShirl_June06.swf and
media_video/goswaipunagroovy.swf
Any help for this would be appreciated.P.S: Try an option from the dropdown menu on the page and except "a dimond bullet" which I know is faulty, and witness my issue.
Also when I replay the MP4 movie clip after full download and viewing it displays without skipping...!
Thanks again. -
On all browsers it seems that flash videos from certain sites (not youtube) will fullscreen initially and then only populate the top left quadrant with video. My flash is up to date and so are my browsers.
Check the Adobe forum area. There could be other Mac users with the same issues. Solution would be found there if any.

Flash Video with option to switch subtitles live?
I have a FLash Video (.FLV) and I need to be able to add the option for viewers to switch Subtitle languages on the fly if need be.
Is it possible to use xml files or txt files with the text, and give the control to switch the text during playback?
CheersWhat I would do:
Set up the subtitles to work off of an XML file.
Then, add a button to toggle their display, and then, on click, set a boolean value that tells the SWF whether or not the subtitles should be displayed.
(This code is AS3, so would need converted if using AS2 - also, this code is just to give the gist of the technique, not be refined code that can be copy/pasted)
var dispSubs:Boolean = false;
function displaySubtitle():void {
if(dispSubs){
//code to display subtitles
dispSubsBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,switchBool);
function switchBool(e:MouseEvent):void {
dispSubs = !dispSubs; -
I've already published this particular project with multiple videos embedded with no problems in Captivate 6. I had to change one video and went to re-publish the project. Upon completing the publish, I receive an error message on EACH slide that has embedded video:
"The Flash Video Can Not Be Loaded. The Input May Not Be Proper"
There wasn't any issues with the project until changing the one video that needed to swapped out. I also tried publishing this in Captivate 8 to the same results.
Specs:
Windows 7 Pro
Captivate Version 6.1.1.240
Intel Core i5 25-20 CPU @ 2.5 Ghz
4 GB RAM
32-Bit Operating System
If anyone knows why this issue has presented itself and how we can get around it, much would be appreciated!
Thanks,
JonHi there,
Thanks for reaching Adobe Community. Please accept my apologies for the inconvenience.
I am a little confused here. Are you getting this error while inserting a FLV video through Insert option or inserting a video through Video > Insert Slide Video or inserting a new slide?
Re-linking means reinserting the video file. If you have already tried reinserting the video file, then have you tried inserting a different video?
Also what operating system you have on your system?
Thanks!

I am trying to convert a .mpg to a Flash video and can get
most of the way but it's not playing on my web page. I can view
locally when I do a open with IE and it plays before I upload all
the files but once I upload all the files it will not play.
These are the steps I am taking to do this:
1. Open Macromedia Flash Professional 8
2. Select File/New/Flash Document
3. In Document Properties change Dimensions to: 354px w x
240px h
4. File/Import/ImportVideo...
5. Where is your video file? On your computer: (Browse to
file 'ff.mpg' and select Ok) then click 'Next'
6. Deployment: I select 'Progressive download from a web
server' (click Next)
7. Encoding: In dropdown I select Flash 7 - Medium Quality
(400 bps) and on right side change my slider to start where I want
it to and then click 'Next'
8. Skinning: Skin = ClearOverPlayMute.swf and click 'Next'
9. Finish Video Import: Click 'Finish'
10. Then a Save As pops up and I save to demo.fla (Flash
Video Encoding Progress shows it encode the video)
11. I can see the video in Flash 8 and view the video by
going to Control/Test Movie and works great.
In my /flash folder I have the following files: ff.mpg,
demo.fla, ff.flv, ClearOverPlayMute.swf, demo.swf
12. Open Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 and create new web page
(File/New)
13. Click on the flash icon and select demo.swf and it
creates code and upload demo.html along with all the other files
excep ff.mpg
Link is:
Page with my
code.
Does anyone have any ideas why this isn't working? Do I have
to set something on the server? A friend with MX didn't do any
encoding.
Thanks for anyone that have any thoughts.I am also facing the same problem and I am told that you have
to configure the MIME settings on your server
& ensure that the path to the flv. is correct.
Hope this helps -
R7950 TwinFrozr OC - stability issue playing flash video
After a day or so uptime, with some gaming, max gpu temp 55°C, idle 40°.
Had a driver crash - main monitor had a mess of gray noise, extended desktop not affected. Caused by playing flash video on youtube. Also occurred in online newspaper, but in that case killing flash plugin solved the problem. The second occurrence required hard reboot.
Had OC'd to 1050MHz gpu, 1575 dram, +10% power limit in Afterburner. Ran stable in multiple games (far cry 3, battlefield 3) as well as unigine heaven benchmark and 3dmark11 benchmark, as well as msi Kombustor burn-in test.
After reboot I found several events in eventvwr saying: "Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered."
These messages appreared in the earlier event where reboot was not required.
The details of the warning follows:

While the screen was garbled, I unplugged the main monitor to isolate the source; problem moved to secondary monitor. Concluded that output from card was the problem, not the monitor.
I have since reverted the card to stock OC, 880MHz, and tested flash video playback seems fine.
Is this an instability problem due to my OC or grounds to RMA the card?
I also shot a video of the event in case anyone is interested, but can't upload until I find my memory card reader.
Second thought edit: I'm using the reference driver, should I be using MSI's driver instead?
Edit 2: I reverted to the OC I had made, and flash video playback is working as it should. A confusing problem indeed, is there a bug in the driver?Quote
Could you please answer my question about whether it would make a difference to run MSI's branded driver versus reference?
MSI drivers are tested to works OK with the card, but you can try other drivers if you want.
If you have troubles with other drivers, its recommended to use MSI VGA drivers. -
Greetings, folks. I am having a terrible time watching Flash videos online (from Google vids, YouTube, Hulu, etc) on Firefox 3. I have to click on the "Play/Pause" button numerous times in rapid succession for it to register. When I click to adjust the volume, the volume bar pops up, only to disappear when I move to change it. Once the video starts, I can watch without interruption, but I have the aforementioned problem if I need to pause or restart. This problem started yesterday, after more than a year of enjoying the online streaming videos with this setup.
Any ideas? I have the newest version of Flash Player 10.
Thanks!Okay. That suggests a problem with Firefox. Do you have the latest version of Firefox?
If you have bookmarks you want to keep, you'll want to save them before proceeding. I'm not sure if my next steps will delete those.
Delete the application from the Applications folder. Also delete the Mozilla folder in home>library as well as the Firefox and Mozilla folders in the home>Library>Application Support folder.

Flash Video Issues In Safari 5 w/ 10.1 Flash Plugin
Hey Folks-
I've tried everything I can think of and read everything I could find, but I am still finding that there are a variety of flash-based video sites with content that is not loading. Some flash video loads, some does not. The pattern is not at all clear, but for example, the flash video on PBS.com and ESPN.com always fails to load. This development seems to be new to Flash 10.1, but does not replicate in any other browser.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled flash, repaired permissions, cleaned out the plugins folder, reapplied the OS combo update, etc, etc. No change.
Below are the errors that show up in the activity log associated with a few failed flash video loads- I'm not really clear on how the plugin works on the backend, so I am not sure I can make heads or tails of these, but I knew some of you would be able to. Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks very much!

UPDATE:
When trying to load flash video content on ESPN just now, the video starts to load, then the flash controls disappear and the video just remains black. The browser reports no errors and nothing shows up in the activity log. This may be applicable to your problem:
Update 10.6.4 included an out-of-date version of FlashPlayer*. Try deleting it and installing the latest one from Adobe even if it has the same version number as the one you have:
The latest version of Adobe FlashPlayer can be obtained from here:
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.
* To avoid this situation in the future, Apple recently announced that Macs would in future not have Flash Player pre-installed, precisely to avoid this situation, saying:
We're happy to continue to support Flash on the Mac, and the best way for users to always have the most up to date and secure version is to download it directly from Adobe.
They also noted that this will be happening across all Macs in the future, though there may be some models still in the channel with Flash pre-installed.

Flash video export to use in premiere, issues
I am working on a project who's intended finished location will be youtube- 4:3 aspect, 320x240. It involves taking an animation produced in flash, editing it in premiere, then saving as a final file
since my aspect ratio is 4:3, I made my .fla file 500x375 pixels. 30 fps. I then exported the video in quicktime in 'Animation' mode, 30 fps. I can only assume that this exports as a square pixel ratio?
I created a new project in premiere. Desktop Mode, 30fps, 500x375, square pixels. However, when I import the flash video (.mov exported from flash, not .flv) it over-extends the edges of my premiere stage. I also tried making a premiere project in .9 NTSC pixel ratio, same other settings, but the problem was even more pronounced.
Any help on the correct settings to use? for either side?good call, turns out it's not exporting at 500x375 like I tell it to. Instead, it exports to 640x480. The .fla document size is 500x375... yet when I go to quicktime export settings, it says 550x400. And when it finishes export, it's 640x480. huh??
well, I guess I can make my premiere project 640x480, not going to matter much when the final product is 320x240. I just can't figure out why it insists on exporting to 640x480
