Flash button template

Dreamweaver CS3 uses flash button templates to insert buttons
where you can add behaviour like linking to other pages.
The button templates are quite ugly so I would like to use my
own style. In Flash CS3 however, you cannot publish or save as a
flash template.
Therefore I have to add the behaviour in the button itself
and than bring it on stage.
As I have at least 20 pages with forward and backwards
buttons (I develop online training with Captivate, Flash and
Dreamweaver) that means 40 different buttons for each online
module!
There must be a simpler solution, I hope.
Can anybody help?

Why use Flash buttons at all?
> There must be a simpler solution, I hope.
As far as I know, this is the only way to do it.

    Hello Flashers-
I bought a flash button template to play an audio file on a
website I'm working on. Now that I have bought the button, how do I
get it to play the audio file I want?
Here is the button set I bought:
    Flash button
    template
I appreciate any help I can get. Thanks.

the audio file is an mp3 file. i am trying to put a flash
'play' button on our html site for a 30 second preview for a song.
if i can just embed the audio in a swf, then that would be awesome,
but i'm not sure how to do that. i'm also not familiar with loading
it externally, so either way i'm ill-equipped to make this work. i
assume if it is an external file then it needs to be loaded.
i appreciate any info you can share.

  • Flash Button/Extension Mgr

I just installed the adobe 1.6 extension manager for MX2004
DW. After that I downloaded a file for more flash buttons. They
appear in my flash button selection, but when I choose them and hit
    apply, I get this message:
"Could not create flash button because a component of
dreamweaver is missing, please reinstall dreamweaver." The old
buttons still work without this message appearing. I have
reinstalled DW, the extension mgr, and the flash button file, to no
    avail. Any Help?

Why use Flash buttons at all?

  • Flash Buttons use in a templates

The last 6 hours have been very frustrating! I have created a
.dwt file and I have used the Flash buttons provided on CS3 as
links. Prior to saving as a template, the page worked fine when I
was testing it in the browser, afer I saved as a template the flash
links are no longer being displayed when I test it in the browser.
Please some one tell me that you can help with this very dumb
    problem.
    Thanks in advance!

If you want to use Flash for navigation, consider this -
    1. Some people don't have Flash installed - what do they do?
    2. Search engines don't parse Flash links - your site will
    not be spidered
    3. Screen assistive devices don't parse Flash links - what
    will those users
    do?
    4. DW cannot maintain links within a Flash movie, so if you
    move or rename
a linked file, your navigation will break - what will you do?
It's usually a very bad idea for these reasons...
Combining Flash buttons with Templates *IS* going to be a
    very frustrating
experience for you. The best thing you can do is to make sure
    when you
insert the button you use a ROOT RELATIVE link to it. That
    way, the link
will work from any page in the site without management.

  • Template with flash buttons

    Hi
I have built a dreamweaver template and have used
dreamweavers flash buttons. I can see these buttons on my web page
but the link from the flash button will not work both files are
    ../home.html and ../home.swf .
    thanks for looking

Unfortunately using Flash with templates is going to be a
    challenge until
Adobe can get things sorted out.
When you insert a Flash element onto a page in DW8.0.2 or
    later, two things
    happen:
    1. A link to a js file is inserted in the head of the page
    2. A chunk of code is inserted where you placed the Flash
    element,
including a call to a function in the js file, and a pair of
    <noscript> tags
that include the <object> and <embed> HTML tags.
To make this process work when you are wanting to insert
    Flash on a child
page, you have to do this -
    1. Create a blank HTML page, and insert the Flash on that
    page.
    2. Copy the link to the js from the head of the page you just
    created and
paste it into the editable region of the head of the child
    page.
    3. Copy the entire section of code inserted in the body of
    the page, and
paste that into the child page at the location where you want
    the Flash to
    appear.
That should do it for you....
However, if you want to use Flash for navigation, consider
    this -

  • Dreamweaver Flash Buttons Paths

    Hello all,
I am a novice site designer. My first challenge is to design a navigation bar once and used by all web pages.  I built it using Flash buttons.  The concept works fine in a flat file, but when I'm viewing a web page that sits in a different directory than the flash navigation buttons, the buttons point to a file in the current directory which doesn't exist. I want the buttons to still point to the flash files in the parent directory.
I'm using Dreamweaver CS2 to create my flash buttons. I'm using PHP include statements to include my flash navigation bar. When I create the php file in another directory, click on flash button, all heck breaks loose. I look at the URL and the link appends the PHP file that the flash button should be pointing to whatever directory my current web page is in.
It seems like, I should just create each button  as a absolute path, http://rootdirectory.com/filename.php, but it still uses relative path when I'm looking at web page that sits in another directory and appends the navigation link to the current directory http://rootdirectory.com/currentdirectory/filename.php although it points to a link in the root or parent directory.
Do I not know how to create flash buttons using the absolute paths?

If you want to use Flash for navigation, consider this -
    1. Some people don't have Flash installed - what do they do?
    2. Search engines don't parse Flash links - your site will
    not be spidered
    3. Screen assistive devices don't parse Flash links - what

    move or rename
a linked file, your navigation will break - what will you do?

    stuff here. Why
    are you using frames?

  • Flash buttons don't work

I created my template in Dreamweaver and 9 other pages from
the template. Now I inserted flash buttons in the original template
and linked them to all other pages. Buttons work in the original
template but not in any of other pages, even though I updated the

    Thanks!

Flash buttons don't work in any real sense of the word,
    anyhow. Why are you
    using them?
If you want to use Flash for navigation, consider this -

This problem is due to the fact that you are placing the
    buttons into a
Template file. In this case, and assuming you want to inherit
    all the
problems, make the links to the buttons ROOT RELATIVE.

  • Need help using flash buttons

Can anyone help me with flash buttons? I am trying to build
my first website, and my five flash buttons (inside a 5 col. table)
for page navigation work fine in testing all 5 web pages with
mozilla firefox, and they look the same on the index page when
testing with IE-7. However when I begin navigating to other pages
in IE-7, the flash buttons disappear, and the 5 cols in the table
where each flash button was placed now are not equal sizes anymore
like they are on the index page. In my files area on the right, I
notice 3 out of the five buttons I created have about 15 to 20
"generations" shown there, with numbers 1 through 15 or even more
to qualify them tacked on to the end of the names. Where do these
come from, and why are 2 out of the five only have 1 "generation"
each? I never expected this, and I think it has something to do
with the problem, but maybe not. Please help me if you can!

If you want to use Flash for navigation, consider this -
    1. Some people don't have Flash installed - what do they do?

Your problem is caused by navigating away from the previewed
    page. In
general, this is not a good thing to do, since root relative
    links will not
work as expected when you do that (locally).

  • Help with flash buttons please

hi i wondered if anyone could take a look at this for me
    please?
    http://beechhouse.yorkwebsites.co.uk
why is it in explorer you have to click the button to
activate it and then click it again to go to the page? and how can
    i fix this please?

It's IE-only behaviour as a result of changes Microsoft made
    earlier this
year to their browser, regarding how Active Content (Flash,
    Quicktime etc)
is handled, after losing a high profile court case.

If you're running Dreamweaver 8.0.2, the fix is already built

    getURL("..\****\****\(Website directory)\(sub directory)\(Website page).html")
I am making the website in Dreamweaver 8 and this is really holding me back as it's nearly finished but the buttons still don't work.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Sorry I should have mentioned tha. The structure is as follows:
    Website name\
                         \Animations
                         \Audio
                         \Buttons
                         \Images
                         \Scripts
                         \Templates
                         \Videos
The buttons are contained in the buttons folder and the page I want to link it to is in the templates folder. I have tried putting the button flash file in the website root directory and trying that but it didn't work.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Dreamweaver, flash button help

hi i am createing a website using dream weaver and my
navigation bar has flash buttons as the links to other pages i have
created, i have the buttons working fine but the users have to
Double click on the button for the next page to be displayed. Is
there away that the users will only have to click the flash button
once for the new page to load up?
i am using Dreamweaver 8, and the code for one of my buttons
    is like this
    <object
    classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="
    http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=5,0,0,0"
    width="100" height="23" align="absmiddle">
    <param name="movie" value="HomeButton.swf" />
    <param name="quality" value="high" /><param
    name="BGCOLOR" value="#333333" />
    <embed src="HomeButton.swf" width="100" height="23"
    align="absmiddle" quality="high" pluginspage="
    http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash"
    type="application/x-shockwave-flash" bgcolor="#333333"
    ></embed>
    </object>
can any one help me with this please

What will happen to those who do not have Flash installed?
    What will search
engines (which don't read Flash links) do to spider your
    site? What will
screen assistive devices (which don't read Flash links) do to
    navigate your
site? What will you do when you move or rename a linked page
    (DW cannot
    manage the links)?
Most experienced people don't use Flash navigation for these
    reasons.
    > Double click
It's IE-only behaviour as a result of changes Microsoft made
    last
year to their browser, regarding how Active Content (Flash,
    Quicktime etc)
is handled, after losing a high profile court case.

  • Hello all I am having problems viewing my flash buttons on my website

Hello all I am new to creating my own websites. I am using
DW8. At the moment all is going ok as I have managed to get my home
page up and running, though my website is far from over i have
decieded to add flash buttons. Now when i preview the site in DW8
it shows all the content on the page, however when I actually view
my website (using Firefox) everything shows except the flash
buttons. I have looked and researched everywhere to try and fix
this problem but either don't get what people are talking about or
just can't find the assocciated files. Any help is very
    appreciated.
    Cheers.

    Which DW8? 8.0.2, by chance?
