Flash .exe or swf files will not play on Vista

I decided to learn how to create captions for flash video,
using CS3. I tested this project and it worked fine. I could just
double-click on the app or the swf and the captioned video played
fine on my Mac. I only had Flash (CS3) on my Mac, so I created the
files there.
I then published an exe to move over to my Vista machine.
When I double-clicked on the file, it brought up Flash Media Player
version 9, but only showed a blank white box. Very frustrating.
After some research, I read that Windows Vista was not
compatible with Flash Media Player 9. Only 10.02xxx or later (I
forget the exact version - it was long) was supposed to work with
Vista. Since CS3 uses version 9 to pack into the executable (PC) or
app (Mac) projector files, I thought maybe this was the problem.
So I downloaded the demo of Flash CS4, thinking this version
would pack version 10 into the projector and this would solve my
problem.
While the CS3 version of my saved flash video project would
open in Flash CS4, it would not play when I tested the movie inside
Flash CS4. It would just show a skin at the bottom of the video
player only (with a play/pause button), and it had moving blue bars
on the skin like it couldn't really load either.
I then decided to create the whole flash video with captions
from scratch under Flash CS4. This time when I tested the movie in
Vista, it worked fine. When I published either the projector exe or
the html/swf combination, it worked fine. So proudly (and finally!)
I sent the exe over to my boss. But..... you guessed it. The Flash
Media Player 10 that started up when the file was double-clicked
just showed a blank white screen again!
So then I moved the exe over to another partition to test to
see if there was some dependent directory pathway saved as part of
the flash video file. The exe wouldn't play on the other partition!
So I thought I was onto something. I then tried moving files that I
thought the exe might be dependent on (although isn't the point of
a projector to be stand alone?) to the same directory on this
partition as the flash exe projector file.
I ended up moving the captions.xml file, the swf files (flash
video player skins included), and the html file that the swf file
is supposed to be embedded in. NOTHING worked.
I even read that someone with this problem saved his Flash
CS4 file as a Flash CS3 file before he published it, and that
worked for him. So I tried that too, but with no joy.
So I am totally stumped. Does anyone out there have advice or
even a solution?
Much Thanks,
Chuck

Quick time movies (.mov) files will not play in Iphoto 11. The thumbnail of the movie shows but when selected only a exclamation mark appears.  I rebuilt the library, thumbnails, permissions etc. I also found the movie files in the iphoto database intact and working. Please advise.

    You're welcome.
Well believe it or not, that's exactly what the exclamation point means. Search the forum. I've been doing this a while.
Next, I have no interest, commercial or otherwise in Library Manager, I have no shares in the company that makes it. I didn't make it. It's not my software.  You could give those guys a million dollars and I'll get nothing from it. I and other expereinced users have recommended it thousands of times on this forum for this problem. Amazing how often it works. Of course, a quick search would have told you that already.
Another: Believe it or not you can use the Rebuild Function of Library Manager for free. You don't need to purchase it for that purpose.

  • Spoken work files will not play even after importing/converting?

I have some audio files recorded on my Android phone with the basic recording app and the files play when I press the spacebar to preview them in Mavericks. However, after importing them into iTunes using various import settings, including the podcast spoken word ones, they just will not play. When I double click on the file it looks like it is about to play, the apple icon at the top switches to what looks like a progress bar, though it is different from other tracks that do play, and then it immediately switches back to the apple icon and does not play.
Any ideas of anything I can do?
    Thanks.

I've found an issue with movies when the audio is IMA format. Is that the format of your audio?

  • My itunes says my spoken word file will not play on my nano.  Why would that be?

I downloaded a spoken word file from audible and put it in itunes.  No problems with that.  But when I tried to put it on my iPod nano, I got a message saying that it wouldn't move the item because the item wouldn't play on my ipod.  What would be the reason for that?  I've played spoken word on my nano before.

On a CD player it isn't AIFF (unless you have a very, very special CD player), it is audio CD format (as Chris CA outlines).  You can start with pretty much any format sound file iTunes can read but on the audio format CD it will end up as plain old linear 16 bit uncompressed PCM which has been the audio CD standard for 30 years.
If your CDs will not play on other players then there could be a problem with your CD burn.  Try the usual things such as slower burn speed and better quality CD media.  It is possible your burner is out of alignment and is burning CDs only your player can then read.

  • Certain .AVI files will not play audio using QuickTime 7.5

I have recently updated my QuickTime to QuickTime Pro 7.5. I attempted to play videos in my library and noticed that certain videos will not play the audio, but video is fine. I did not have problems with playing the videos with audio before the update.
I tried to do some research and many have suggested to install PERIAN 1.1. I have done this, but still no result. I have deleted a lot of important videos, because I assumed that they are no longer usable. I decided to keep most of them and figure out a solution. No luck so far.
Please help! Anyone else experiencing this problem?

I'm not really sure what to look for in QT's Movie Inspector, but here's what it says:

If Pro update were not suited for Intel Mac's, should I uninstall the update? If so, how do I do this? Do you have any other suggestions?

  • Flash SWF with Video file will not play in web page

    Hello Flash group,
I have created a flash video file from a *.wmv file.
    myvideo.flv.
I have used flash to build an swf file that plays the video
    (with a default skin).
I have then imported the media file into an html page using
Dreamweaver. I did not import the flv file, but the swf file with
    the "video" in it.
The page plays find on my development server (where
    Flash,Dreamweaver, etc is installed).
When I moved the html page, the flv file, the swf file and
the skin to my production webserver (linux and apache)
the flash files do not show up on the web page. The dev
server is a windows XP running apache 2.2)
Any ideas on what I need to do???
    thanks,
    eholz1

It may cause by any of the reason below:
    - You have uploaded the flv file to the wrong directory
    - Your flv file path/name is incorrect. check all case
    sensitive etc.
    - Your web server doesn't support FLV MIME type.

    hi,
I can not get my pages where I have swf files to open in firefox.  I have several pages

  • FLV embedded in a SWF file, does not play in HTML file.

    Hi,
I embedded a FLV file into flash movie clip, which on publish plays well on SWF file, but when the same is embedded in HTML, it does not play.
What is it i'm missing ..
    Kindly help.
    Regards
    Shashi

First, clarify this... are you embedding the .flv into the time line, as in:
The .FLV file is imported on the  timeline of a movie clip.
    I embedded the .flv file,
If you are in fact embedding the video, then there is no external video file... it's embedded into the timeline.
If you are using the FLVPlayback component and an external vid file to display the video and the .swf when testing plays the video just fine but not on the HTML Web page:
SWF plays external video file, as soon as I embed SWF in HTML, it no longer playes the external video file.
then it's most likely a pathing problem.
If you are placing the .swf on a Web page and the .swf and/or the .flv file are not both in the same folder as the Web page.... then the .swf should NOT work when you test it directly! That's because it should be pathed to play from the Web page and not the location of the .swf.
    For your review:
Almost always when it works on the local machine and not the server, it's a pathing problem.
You can put your Flash related files in whatever folders you want, they do NOT have to be in the root, they do NOT all have to be in the same folder. But if you have a problem and if sticking them all in the root folder works, then you know that the issue was a pathing problem.
Just remember that paths used in the .swf become relative to the Web page on which the .swf is placed, NOT it’s physical location.  So for example, if your .swf is in the flash/data folder and you use that .swf on a Web page in the root folder, you are in effect, removing that .swf from flash/data and putting it in root. So if the .swf is loading any related files (xml, images, video, etc), the path used inside the .swf to load the .xml file has to be relative to it's new location in root and then back down into flash/data. This is true even though when testing the .swf by itself, it can be inside flash/data and work just fine, since relative to it's location, the path is just fine, they are in the same folder. But if that same path is used when the .swf is placed on a page two folder levels up, the relative path has changed, the old "same folder" path will not work.
In fact if you are placing the .swf on a web page in a different folder than the .swf is stored in, and that .swf calls external assets, then direct clicking and opening of the .swf in it’s folder should NOT work! That’s because the paths to the external assets should be relative to the Web page and not the physical location of the .swf.
So just be sure that you use addresses relative to the final Web page locations (not physical file locations) and you can put the Flash related files in what ever folders you want.

  • I have updated Flash Player but it still will not play videos etc. Any clues what i have to do?

I suddenly have troublewith playing videos on Firefox - and have uninstalled and reinstalled but still it will not work.
Any clues what else i need to do?

Which version of Flash did you reinstall? <br />
IE uses the ActiveX version, where other browsers need the Plugin version of Flash.
Here's the "drill" for installing Flash for Firefox.
1.Download the Flash Plugin version setup file from here: <br />
    [http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_32bit.exe Adobe Flash - 32-bit Plugin version]. <br />
Save it to your Desktop.<br />
    2. Close Firefox using File > Exit <br />
then check the Task Manager > Processes tab to make sure '''firefox.exe''' is closed, <br />
    {XP: Ctrl+Alt+Del, Vista: Shift+Ctrl+ESC = Processes tab}
    3. Then run the Flash setup file from your Desktop.
    4. Start Firefox and test your installation here: https://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
    * On Vista and Windows 7 you may need to run the plugin installer as Administrator by starting the installer via the right-click context menu if you do not get an UAC prompt to ask for permission to continue (i.e nothing seems to happen). <br />

  • Migration to IIS6 causes large swf files to not play

So I had a FLV that was being played through a SWF on one of
my clients sites. The server got upgraded to Windows 2003 and it
stopped working. I didn't originally create the SWF or FLV so I
wasn't sure what it was doing. I used FLV2SWF to convert the FLV to
SWF (the unlicensed copy) and it created a 6mb (truncated) version
of the file, and this file was now viewable. So I got the full
version and converted the entire FLV, and I still have the same
problem it looks like its downloading but then never plays and if
you right click on the player it says movie not loaded. If I just
create a link to the SWF and download it and play it local it works
no problem. You can see the non-working version here, in case this
    helps
    http://cwbtechnologies.com/about2.htm
Any help would be much appreciated. I have a feeling this is
something in Win2003 but I couldn't find anything on MSDN.
    Thanks,
    Pete

Thanks for the suggestion Pat.  I checked it out but I do not have any path issues.  The problem is ONLY with swf files that I have had on my website for a year.  They worked perfectly before December 3rd and stopped working after that time.  They still work fine if an older version of Flash Player is used.  I'm pretty sure that there is an swf file backwards compatiblity issue with version 11.1.102.55.  I have spoken with others who have the exact same problem.
I recompiled one of my swf files using the latest version of Object2vr and it will show properly on my site.  I am now in the process of recompiling the remaining 50 swf files in order to make my site work again.
I would still be interested in knowing if there is a fix for this issue other than recompiling the swf files.

  • Compressor Video File will not play in DSP Menu

I built a menu in FCP exported to compressor, and changed the settings to progressive to get rid of the interlaced lines. When I drag the compressor file to my menu it is a solid blue and does not play. The below image is what it looks like.
I did another compressor file without making it progressive and it plays fine, but it has so many lines through it because there is a lot of movement in the video. Is there any settings I can use in DSP to make my menu play?
    Thanks,

Progressive video is not supported in any Menu Domain per the DVD Spec. DVD is an inherently an interlaced playback platform. If your having interlacing issues, the problem is in your workflow. Is your field order correct?

  • FLV files will not play in flash player

I'm an old GoLive user and I'm becoming very frustrated with
the new CS3 software. I am trying to encode a simple quicktime
movie into flash using Adobe flash encoder and then embed it into
my web page. Even when I use all the default settings in flash
encoder still nothing will play the movie even Flash Player 9. I've
posted it to my server and embedded it into my Dreamweaver page,
uploaded the new scripts and I still just get a blank white box
where the movie should play. Has anyone else come across this? I've
followed through the help menu and it appears like everything works
    except it won't play.
    Thanks,
    Adam

I finally got some help from another forum and figured out
what I was doing wrong. Firstly to view the flv files on your
machine use VLC player. If they play in their entirety the way they
should there is nothing wrong with the encoding. When you embed the
flv files in dreamweaver be sure to upload the skin and upload the
flv file first and link to its remote http address and not the
    local address.
