Flash Player refuse to reinstall (OSX)

Hello!
This concerns OSX 10.6.4 and Flash Player installation problems.
I had some trouble with Safari 5 after installation and I tried many things including removing Flash Player (which turned out not to be the cause of the problem) using the Adobe uninstaller.
BUT
When I try to reinstall Flash Player, the installer get stuck at 95% forever. The installer seems to be waiting for something and isn't stuck according to Finder, but I still need to force quit the installer. When I try the installer again it reports "problems with installation" immediately, but after a restart I can run the installer again (which again gets stuck at 95%).
I cant see that the installer installs anything (plugins) and using the de-installer again makes no difference to the outcome. No firewall or anything blocks if the installer would require internet access.  I've re-downloaded the installer from Adobe website several times.
Any suggestions much appreciated!

Hi, did you follow the instructions I posted to this thread? If so, then perhaps an anti-virus/firewall is causing the hang.
I would download the Uninstaller to your Desktop. Now I'm not sure if you can download the Installer and SAVE it to your Desktop or not, but if you can, I would. Then close all browsers and Run the Uninstaller, Reboot, followed by the Installer and Reboot.

  • Installation of Flash Player 11.9 under OSX fails with case-sensitive filesystem!?

The installation  of flash player 11.9 aborts with an unspecified error. I running OSX 10.9 with an case-sensitive filesystem. Can anyone confirm there are problems with the installer on case-sensitive filesystems?

The problem isn't the filesystem per se. It's bad software quality if pathnames defined wrong or multiple times with different notation. Often there is only one or two letters with the wrong upper or lower case. I guess in the current Flash installer this is the case. With the previous versions I had no problems.

My Mini isn't case sensitive, so I can't really say but I had two iMacs when I worked at Intuit that were case sensitive and they had all kinds of software installation issues. One of the Mac developers at Mountain View told me that Case Sesnitive shouldn't be chosen as a format except when a system is isolated and used as a testing server. For a workstation or home computer, it's a terrible choice for a setup.

  • Flash Player refuses to run, if outdated.  Can I change this setting?

I work in a video production environment -- tonight we ran into a problem where a couple of live monitoring systems were not working because Flash refused to run; presumably, because it's out of date.   In this case, the systems are "Deep Frozen" (locked down, essentially).
While I think I understand the underlying reasoning for this, it's highly disruptive.    Is there a way we can change Flash Player so it doesn't refuse to run if it's outdated?
These systems are on OSX Yosemite.  It's possible it's not just a Flash Player setting, but a browser setting -- still trying to track this down.
    Tips, pointers would be appreciated!
    Thank you.

Yeah, that makes sense.  Faronics is really into buzzwords.  It was hard to cut through the marketing-speak to figure out what they were actually doing.
The plug-in blocking technology on Mac is called xprotect.  You can disable it, which might make sense in your use-case, but it's typically a really bad idea for the average end-user.
    sudo mkdir /System/Library/Launchdaemons/Disabled
    sudo mv /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.xprotectupdater.plist /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/Disabled/com.apple.xprotectupdater.plist
    sudo /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "Delete:JavaWebComponentVersionMinimum" /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/XProtect.meta.plist
I'm guessing that these files are mutable on the system and not part of the persistent snapshot, or I imagine that the blocking would have went away after a reboot.  I'm thinking that you can probably disable these and update the relevant snapshots to ensure that you're not picking up new xprotect blacklists in the field.
If you're just hitting the same set of consistent local IPs for your monitoring backend, it might make more sense to preconfigure them in Safari as always allowed vs. wholesale disabling xprotect.
    Hopefully that's helpful.

  • Flash Player not working with OSX 10.9.5

I can't help you but Flash Player 15 simply fails to function on OSX 10.9.5. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Simply does not work.

I've branched this to it's own thread, since the issue you're experiencing is unrelated to the one you replied to, and it would be confusing to try and handle them in the same thread.
Please provide as many of the follow details as possible, so I can attempt to reproduce the issue you're describing (I realize you've provided some of it):
Read Before Posting: How To Get A Useful Answer To Your Question

  • Flash Player will not install - OSX 10.9.5 w/ Firefox 34.0.5

I know this question has been asked before, but since no one seems to have an answer for it I have no choice but to ask again.
I was having trouble posting scores on a gaming website. The game ran fine, and I could log in successfully, but my scores never showed on the player list. The help section of the site suggested uninstalling / reinstalling Flash Player. I was having trouble with Flash elsewhere so I thought I'd give it a try. The uninstall was successful but now Flash will not reinstall. Now instead of a malfunctioning Flash Player I have no Flash Player at all.
The install process goes as it should - the installer uploads to my desktop, I open it, I get the "Adobe Flash Player Installer" window, I double-click in the icon, I'm asked if I'm "sure I want to open it," I click "open," I enter my administrator password, then comes the problem. The next pop-up window has a black background and for about 1/2 second you can see the words "Retrieving Install" and a loading progress bar, then the words disappear and you're left looking at the blank black box. That's it.
I have Ghostery, Lightbeam, and HTTPS Everywhere add-ons on Firefox. I turned Ghostery off through this process.
    Thanks in advance.

Well, good news. I solved it. And it's beyond bizarre that no one has suggested this.
Nested deep, deep, in the the help section is this:
    Still having problems?
If you are still having trouble installing Adobe Flash Player, try downloading the installer directly from the following sites:
Flash Player for Safari and Firefox - NPAPI
Flash Player for Opera and Chromium-based browsers - PPAPI
Apparently Adobe doesn't have a copy of its own software that works? Ridiculous but true. You actually have to download it from your browser's website.
Adobe, you all seriously need to get your act together.

  • Flash player refusing to work no matter what I do.  Been going on for months now.  Help?

    Windows 7 (64 bit)
    Chrome (32 bit) (ver. 27.0.1453.116 m)
    Flash 11.7.700.225
It seems like, no matter what I do, Flash player will not work.  Keep in mind that I have already tried disabling/enabling both the plugin that comes with Chrome, along with the plugin that you can manually install from Adobe, and that alone doesn't solve my problem.
If I try to play videos on Youtube, I get one of four results:
    1) "This video is currently unavailable," which can come up if I have one of the plugins enabled.  I can sometimes solve this by disabling both plugins, but that only works about 25% of the time.
    2) The Youtube player just shows black and nothing else.  No audio/video and no indication that anything is playing.  Like with #1, this can also come up if I have a plugin enabled, and can sometimes be solved like in #1.  But again, this only works semi-occasionally.
    3) I get the prompt to update my flash player.  This can come up if I have both plugins disabled, and I have yet to find a solution for it (yes, I've already uninstalled flash with Adobe's official uninstaller, and reinstalled it to confirm I have the most recent version).  If I enable any of the two plugins, I get an error message like in either #1 or #2.
    4) The video plays fine.  This only happens about 10% of the time, and is split half/half in terms of requiring the plugin on/off.
So far, I have done the following in order to solve my flash problem, to no avail:
    -disabled/enabled both plugins (mentioned above)
-uinstalled/reinstalled Flash Player using Adobe's official programs (mentioned above)
    -tried using Firefox
-tried using the HTML5 player as an alternative (never works)
-disabled/reenabled every plugin one by one
-disabled/reenabled all extensions, and even tried browsing in Incognito Mode
-tried making an exception for Flash in Windows Firewall
-scanned for and cleaned up any viruses/malware/adware/spyware

The first thing I would try is to update the graphics drivers; see http://forums.adobe.com/thread/945765

  • KeyboardEvent Bug in Flash Player Debugger (Safari/WebKit OSX 10.6.8)

    Hi!
There is a bug with the debugger :-)
I ran into the following bug.
After doing a fair amount of testing I am able reproduce the problem at will, so here it is:
The Debug version of the Flash Player used for development does not detect keyboard inputs from Safari (tested with Version 5.1 (6534.50)) or WebKit (tested Version 5.1 (6534.50, r92131)) on OSX 10.6.8
All other browsers detect KeyboardEvents attached to the stage without any issue except for Safari/Webkit that just ignore all KeyboardEvents.
Of course the issue is limited to the debug version of the Falsh Player so not too big of an issue but I was wondering if Adobe is planning on fixing that issue?
    Thanks, L.

It would be better if you filed a bug report at http://bugs.adobe.com/flashplayer/ instead of reporting it in the user forum.
To give it its due attention, send a PM to Chris Campbell with a link to the bug report, as well as this topic.

  • I cannot download the new adobe flash player on my mac OSX 10.5

I have always been able to watch videos on line.  Now on msnbc it says I have to download the new Adobe Flash player in order to watch the videos.  When I try to download it won't do it.

Call Apple and file a formal complaint, it's Apple that is not supplying security or patches to 10.5 users and expects everyone to be computer guru's.
16.5% of Mac users are on 10.5 and Apple just denies security and stability updates to force you to upgrade your OS or your hardware prematurely.
There is a massive botnet of over 600,000 Mac's and the prime location is on 10.5 Intel Mac's which they refuse to fix.
Appe's "solution" is for you to upgrade your operating system to 10.6 or even 10.7 (this will make your machine slow and won't run a lot of your software, another "problem")

IMO 10.6  would be best for you, the least trouble, but you bought a Mac for it to "just work" as your not "into" computers, your just a regular user like most Apple's customers.
So call Apple and complain, then buy the 10.6.3 retail disk and stick it into your machine and upgrade and cross your fingers and update to 10.6.8.
Backup your persona data off the machine first to a storage drive and disconnect.

    Hello,
    Welcome to Adobe Forums.
First, remove Adobe Flash Player completely using Flash Player uninstaller for MAC : http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-mac-os.html
Download offline installer for Adobe Flash Player (MAC) from here : http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/licensing/mac/install_flash_playe r_11_osx.dmg
Once the file is downloaded, run the installer

  • Can't install Flash Player on Mac with OSX Mavericks

Hi I have a MacBook Pro with OSX Mavericks and I have tried to install then uninstall the Flash Player and each time a box pops up and says the application quit unexpectely. I hvae tried this several times with no luck. Any suggestions?

That's because Chrome has its own proprietary Flash Player embnedded by Google. There are instructions for a thorough "clean install" here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1343084 if the regular clean install won't work.

  • Flash Player must be reinstalled every time I restart FireFox

I run Fire Fox (9.0) and I cannot get Flash to operate websites until I reinstall it (the latest version) and restart FF.  Then the websites will work but only for that web session.  When I restart FF the same issue reoccurs – Flash must be reinstalled in order to work.  I came across another solution (a total fluke) but it is temporary as well.  Here it is – I find the latest version of the file “macromedia.com” and delete it.  Then I can reload the webpage that is hanging and all is well.  This file is found at C:\Users\Owner\Appdata\Roaming\Macromedia  I am not sure why that works but it does.  But it is not a real fix, it could be a clue however.   I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling both Flash and FF to no avail.  I am using window 7 on an i7 64 bit processor.  Go easy on me with the tech jargon, I am not a “computer guy” just a bloke looking to get it back to the way it was before it broke.
    Thanks
Later on ... Please allow me to add a bit more to the story.  When I download the lastest version of flash and install it, FF works.  When I relaunch FF I cannot simply reinstall the latest downloaded version of Flash in my "download" list.  It is basically unuseable and I must download the entire package again to get Flash back up and running.  The second method discribed above has an additional twist, I must wait until FF is up and running (because a new "macromedia.com" file is created a launch) then delete the “macromedia.com" file then it will work.  Goofy - so I put a shortcut to the folder on my desktop and I can delete at will.  What a pain!

So the uninstall and fresh install did not do anything to improve the situation.
And i just noticed that I misspoke about the macromedia.com file - it is not a file but a folder that contains other folders in the following manner C:\Users\Owner\Appdata\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\macromedia.com\support\flashpayer\sys
The bold folder is the one I delete.  This folder in total is quite small 8 kb.  In the last sys folder there are two more folders one called #s.nsdsvc.com and #s.ytimg.com and a file call settings.sol
So, I am going to do some more testing with this and give even more specifics very soon.
After poking around a bit....when I delete this setting.sol file everything starts working as it should.  This file appearantly is my "work/no work switch".  I was just deleting more than I need to with the macromedia.com folder zap. The same problem of flash not working still persists but I have it narrowed down to this settings.sol file.  Is there something in my flash settings that can be flipped on or off to make this problem go away?  I feel that I am close to a solution...maybe.
Here is the information found in that file settings.sol (copied from notepad so it is a little garbled with tabs):
