Flash Player works only for Local Admins

Hi!
We have about 40 computers in our organisation with the same problem: Since few weeks the Adobe Flash Player (ActiveX) works only, when the user has administrative privileges. If a normal user wants to watch youtube-films or other flash objects, there will only appear a message that (a new) Adobe flash player must be installed to view the content (or so). It looks like there is no Adobe Flash player installed. But if the user is a local admin, everything works fine - on the same computer.
Under Software Adobe Flash Player is displayed as installed.
We have WinXP Professional SP2/SP3 32bit running on 4-year-old Maxdata computers. And few new computers (also WinXP Professional SP2/SP3 32bit)
Confusing: There are few computers where flash works for everyone! It seems, that especially the computers that are new don't have this problem.
I've tested everything: Using the MSI-file, using the EXE-file. Uninstalling the MSI, uninstalling the EXE. Using Version 14, 16 and now 26. Uninstalling everything by the offical Adobe flash player uninstaller. Installing the software as administrator, installing the software via GPO. I've deleted system32/macromed/flash. I've used Microsoft subinacl - with the offical adobe reset_fp10.cmd. I edited system32/macromed/flash so that everybody has write rights on this folder.
But nothing works. It's always the same: Videos in the IE are only shown for admins.
And now, I've no idea, what else I could do?!
Anyone else?
Greetings from Germany
Peter

Pat, is this the one?

  • Flash Player works only on some sites

Hey, ever since I've installed the new Flash 10.1 Flash has only worked on some sites. Good example is Youtube where it
works and then again on Zero Punctuation site it doesn't work. This only happens if my user account is standard user. If I switch it to Admin account (the rights, I don't switch to a different account totally) then Flash works on all sites. Why does Flash require Admin account on this computer to work properly with 10.1?
EDIT: Forgot to mention that Flash 10.1 works fine with Standard account on my laptop.'
2nd EDIT: Windows 7 with Internet Explorer 8 btw. Forgot to mention that too

    Hey.
I'm basing this on currently loaded IE addons. My desktop has more running atm. I can list them: Java Plugin 2 SSV helper, Windows Media Player, XML DOM Document 6.0, Free Threaded XML DOM Document, XSL Template 6.0 and Windows Live Sign-In Helper alongside with Flash. Laptop has only Windows Live Sign-in Helper on with Flash. The java is disabled and rest are from Microsoft and are well, needed to display XML sites I guess
I have Microsoft Security Essentials with just Windows Firewall on both computers. And I just meant that probably some weird security setting in flash or IE since something, like I said, seems to be partially blocking flash from different domain. For example, I know that a site "istartedsomething" has a video that is linked from Youtube. It doesn't work in that site but everything works just fine in Youtube.
I thought of that too first, that the websites haven't managed to update, but for some reason they do work on my laptop which has same flash installed.
On sidenote, for example http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html does work on my laptop but doesn't work on this desktop while http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ works on both.
    Whew, wall of text done

After you've installed Flash Player (you have to mount the disk image by double-clicking and the double-click the insatller package) restart your browser and go to youTube, for example, -> http://www.youtube.com/ - and see if the videos play.

  • Autoupdate working only for Flash 15 (not upgrading to 16)

    Windows 7 and 8.1
    IE, Firefox
    15.0.0.246
We're trying to setup Flash to autoupdate in our IT environment. It currently autoupdates to 15.0.0.246. I'm assuming it should autoupdate to the latest version available, 16.0.0.235 but it's not. Is this intended by Adobe? Otherwise, there are no errors; the autoupdate process is only updating to 15.0.0.246 (previous version we had was 15.0.0.223).

Please check out the Flash Player system administration guide.  It's going to depend on how you distributed Flash Player to your network, and what settings you included in the mms.cfg.  If someone pushed out our MSI installers via AD/SCUP/etc and had planned handle future updates themselves, they may have disabled automatic updates via the mms.cfg.
The guide has the appropriate file locations and flags to check for.  Also, if you're using custom mms.cfg options to customize the update behavior on your network, try putting any mms.cfg files under both Windows\System\Macromed\Flash and Windows\SYSWOW64/Macromed/Flash directories (this shouldn't actually be required but you may be running into a bug that we've fixed recently) just to see if that works for you.  It won't hurt anything.
Details on all of the appropriate paths and stuff are in the guide:
Adobe Flash Player Administration Guide for Flash Player | Adobe Developer Connection
If you don't make any headway, please send me a copy of your install log.  Feel free to PM me with it if you don't want it public, and I'll see if I can get some useful feedback for you.

  • Flash player worked for months but now I have audio but no video / Windows 8 / Help

Flash player worked for months.  But today suddenly the video part stopped working.  So I have audio and a blank screen.  This is across all applications: youtube, live streaming, etc.

To help troubleshoot we'll need the following system information:
    Operating system
    Browser
    Flash Player version - http://adobe.ly/wNzNAu
    Web Page URL
    Steps to reproduce
When reporting issues with video or audio, it's also helpful to get your system hardware and driver details.  Instructions for finding this information can be found here:
    Windows - http://adobe.ly/KShBWi
    Mac - http://adobe.ly/16Odlzb
Finally, sometimes video and audio problems are caused at a lower level and not directly related to Flash Player.  I recommend trying both of the links below to see how they perform.  If the problem exists with both, then Flash Player is most likely not the culprit as the HTML5 video link does not use Flash Player when playing.  You can verify the use of HTML5 by right clicking the HTML5 video and looking for the words "About HTML5" at the bottom of the context menu.

    Non-HTML5 video - http://bit.ly/cqNb3w

  • Adobe Flash Player 10 Fix for WinXP and Vista, IE7, IE8, Firefox, ect.(New Fast Fix)

(This is a possible solution for most users) I have found that inside the folder C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash (WinXP Home/Pro) (Computer > C: Drive > Windows > System32 > Macromed > Flash for Vista) there should be a file named FlashUtil10b.exe (IF NOT YOU SHOULD UPDATE AS SPECIFIED!) (or FlashUtil10a.exe or for older versions something similar depending on your version), which is the update utility for flash player. Click on this and if it updates, you will have to restart your computer. This should fix any missing files, and update you to the latest version.
On a side note to all those who read this, I downloaded and installed 5 different times, the same version, from different websites, all for the "new" flash version, and they didn't work (this also included trying to update Shockwave player itself). Apparently, going directly to the website and downloading a new version of Adobe Flash Player, and installing, doesn't uninstall the older version, (though it says it does nor does the uninstaller work directly from the website) nor fixes the problem. I assume they are aware of this problem, because they included this bug fix in revision 10b. This fix should work for those of you whom cannot view/see flash images as well. There also appears to be a bug/reference problem with the installation of IE8 giving the error "Missing Shockwave Decompression XTRA", when trying to play a Shockwave/Flash file, which seems also to affect Firefox and other browsers. It doesn't recognize that the folder or files that it needs in it, exist. I never had his problem before, until IE8 was installed. I checked which version I had in the system32 folder and found this updater built in to Adobe. Version 10a does NOT automatically update, but version 10b includes this fix. I currently had version 10a when I received this error, and began digging for a solution. Doing the update as described above fixed the problem, and updated it to version 10b.
The new flash version 10b has some new features, such as volume control, auto-updating, and several rendering options for those who may have a faster or slower computer/video card.
I found this works great for XP users but unsure of the Vista users. The process is the same  for Vista and the update should still work the same, as long as you run it as Administrator, I assume. I have this also posted on wwwdslreports.com at http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r22115254-IE-IE8-and-Adobe-Flash-Question and here http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r22361930-Adobe-Flash-Player-10-Fix-for-WinXP-IE 8-Firefox-ect. It appears to work for everyone so far. I have not heard of any problems from users with this problem running the RC (Release Canidate) for Windows 7 yet.
I hope this works to your benefit.
Please leave a reply to help Adobe and other users know if this fix worked for you or not. If not, please explain what you did, and the effects your seeing, including operating system, site of the flash file trying to view, browser type (ex. IE6, IE7, IE8, Firefox, Opera, ect.), and I will try to help you as best I can.
(I would strongly recommend those not using IE8, or Firefox 3.5, get the updated versions)
If your looking for uninstallers go to this site: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
If your looking for a true full install, you can download this developer version for Windows and Mac: http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/updaters/10/flash_player_update2_flash10.zi p (44MB) (If you download this, I would recommend you still follow my instructions for the Flash Utility before restarting your computer.)

I would recommend all users having problems try the above solution first.
I have posted this on a couple of websites, and so far it has fixed everyones problems.
Firefox 3.5 Beta 4 has Adobe Flash Player coding built into the browser so that it not only loads faster but works better.
You still need to have the Adobe ActiveX plug-in and Adobe Flash Player for both browsers.
I would also recommend you download Shockwave Player 11.
IE8 has tried this as well, but it still has a couple bugs in it.
If you have IE8 or FireFox 3.5 Beta 4, and you are still having problems, then I recommend that you go to www.windowsupdate.com and get all of the latest updates (including SP3), then try this fix again.
Your auto-updater built into windows (If you even have it on) doesn't always pull down every update available for your computer. It only pulls down the manditory ones.
Sometimes you HAVE to go to the website and manually get them yourself. I recommend when you go to the website, you click on custom install and pick every last one of them to install, which includes, hardware and software fixes for your computer.
What a lot of people don't know is that when you have installed and tried all of the recommended fixes that Adobe gives you, and it still doesn't work, is that you are having registry conflicts within your Operating System (OS ex. WinXP, Vista, Linux, ect.), and that it is not the Adobe software at all.
Those are usually repaired by making sure your computer stays up to date.
The fact is the computer world is changing so rapidly that everyone can't keep up. You have to check for updates weekly.
If you fall behind on those updates, then you start having problems with your computer and/or software.
One problem then can turn into many and people get frustrated when something all the sudden just quits working.
Take a day or two at least once a month, and make sure you update and maintain your computer.
This includes disk defragmenting, disk cleanup, and making sure you have all the lastest updates.
You can get to Disk Defrag, and Disk Cleanup by going to Start, All Programs, Accessories, then to System Tools.
I would do Disk Cleanup first, then Defrag.
I hope you take this advise into consideration, and that it is very helpful for you.
If you find this useful, please come back and reply to this forum, and let everyone know so that others will be encouraged to do this.
Thanks and goodluck, from another user like you.

Mozilla is currently developing an open standards-based Flash renderer called Shumway.
    https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Projects/Shumway
Available as an extension [http://mozilla.github.io/shumway/extension/firefox/shumway.xpi here]. ''< click to launch the add-on installer.''
''It seems to work fine on YouTube videos in the Firefox 31 release version, although it is somewhat CPU intensive.''
And also available in the Nightly development versions.
    http://nightly.mozilla.org/
Feel free to try it out, but make sure you install it into its' own Program Files folderset and make sure you create a unique Profile for use only with Nightly. If the same Profile is used with both Release and pre-release versions problems sometimes arise after switching back and forth between different versions of Firefox. Basically, Nightly is like 18 weeks ''(at a minimum)'' removed from becoming a release version, but some projects stay on Nightly for a longer time as they are being developed. That happens to provide as many user / testers as possible, by not resorting to a separate development trunk version.

  • No Sound in Flash Player under only one User Account

Hi I searched the forums and could not find the answer to this.
I have a Freshly Installed Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit) version with the latest Flash Player (10.1).
The browser doesn't matter, both Firefox and IE have the same behavior.
No sound comes from flash at all under the admin account. Under other user accounts, the sound is fine.
The sound WAS working fine until one time it said that Flash Player had crashed. I uninstalled, rebooted, re-installed with no luck.
So I'm either gonna just make another user account... or just wipe the computer and start over unless anyone has any ideas.
    -Marc

Thanks. Well vs 3.6.8 is the latest FF. There is no Flash Player at all for any 64bit system. You must use the 32bit browser when Uninstalling/Installing and viewing Flash Content.
For that to happen so suddenly sounds like some update of a program, Windows update, an Anti-Virus update had taken place. Any new program Installed or Uninstalled? Anything you can think of prior to that happening? It just sounds like a major conflict.
You may want to take a look at your Flash files, perhaps some Flash file didn't get Installed properly.
Go to C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash  Open Flash and post back the files listed there. The NPSWF file(s) need a right click and then click on Properties to obtain the version number(s)
Also go to Tools, manage add ons with IE and find Shockwave Flash Object..ActiveX Control..Flash10h.ocx and make sure it is Enabled.
Using FF find the SWF vs 10.1.53.64 plug-in and make sure it is Enabled.
Perhaps when FP crashed it caused something to change in both of the add ons.
I had that happen to me a few months ago; Uninstalled an Anti-Virus/Installed a new version. Then couldn't see images on a website, and went to an Adobe website to check something and it told me I needed Flash Player to view it!!! Imagine my surprise:-) So that was the problem.
    Thanks,

Important: Flash Player installation requires a browser restart. Bookmark this page, so that you can visit this page whenever required.
    Mac
Download and install the latest Flash Player version.
For any reason if your installation is not successful:
    a. Uninstall the installation files using the Adobe Flash Player uninstaller.
Note: Use only Adobe Flash Player uninstaller to uninstall Flash Player installation files.
    b. Reinstall the latest Flash Player version.
Go to step 5 to check if you can access rich media content properly.

  • Where can I get the lastest Adobe Flash Player (version 10) for my Dual 1.8GHz PowerPC G5?

Can someone tell me how to get the lastest Adobe Flash Player (version 10) for an Apple PowerPC G5 computer with OS 10.5.8?

You can check here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/  to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS. Note that version 10,1,102,64 is the last version available to PPC Mac users*. The latest version, 10.2.152.25, 10.3.x beta, or later, is for Intel Macs only, as Adobe no longer support the PPC platform. Version 11.0.1.152 is for Lion.
    * Unhelpfully, if you want the last version for PPC Macs, you need to go here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html  and scroll down to 'Archived Versions/Older Archives'. The first one on the list, Flash Player 10.1.102.64 is the one you download. More information here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/838/cpsid_83808.html
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90906.html
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.
(If you are running a PPC Mac with Flash Player 10.1.102.64 and are having problems with watching videos on FaceBook or other sites, contributor Texas Mac Man suggests the following solution which fools the site into thinking that you are running the latest version:)
Download this http://www.steelbin.com/FPforFBPPC.zip to your desktop, unzip it, and replace the current Flash Player plug-in which is in your main/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, (not the user Library). Save the old one just in case this one doesn't work.

  • Is There No FLV/Flash Player or Converter for 10.3.9 under Quicktime 7.5?

    Greetings:
Is There No Working FLV/Flash Player or Converter for 10.3.9 under Quicktime 7.5?
QT 7.5 plum doesn't play flash at all, Flip4Mac or Perian or no. VLC and Streamclip have no video, and I tried the latest iSquint to convert and ended up with blank video that the helper patcher couldn't fix (at least under Panther). I'd try SWF & FLV Player if there was one that worked under Panther but despite the 10.3.9 labels on download sites they're all Tiger only. The only FLV player I found is "Wimpy" but it's very awkward and works only with dragged files.
I heard there was some trouble with QT 7.5 regarding videos and some go back to 7.4, but I REALLY don't want to go the install and archive route!
Any savior would be most appreciated!
    Thanks
    JimWG
    Using 10.3.9/10.4.9 partitions on 900mHz G3 iBook.

    Thanks lots for your assist!
I'll test that out once I get home to my G3 iBook, but in a nutshell I guess I'm asking is can Quicktime directly read FLV files under G3 10.3.9 like Quicktime (with Perian) does under 10.4.11 without any go-betweens? Is there a "Perian" type add-on for QT under !0.3.9 to play FLVs by? It seems that so many folks have left Panther that no one's ever ran into this issue!

  • Flash Player 10.3 for IE9 (64-bit)

    Hello,
Believe it or not I am running Flash Player 10.3.162.28 in my final version of IE9 (64-bit).  It works PERFECTLY.  LOL.  What's the story behind this version, does anyone happen to know?
I got it from the Flash Player Square site back in September or October 2010 and then the releases for 64-bit were removed, leaving me high and dry.  I am running the proper 10.2 version in my IE9 32-bit, but that doesn't have anything to do with the 64-bit version.
Does anyone have a clue, because I don't.  LOL.
Should I just leave it alone?
    Thanks!

Hi, I think it's helpful to understand that the Square Flash Player for 64bit browsers ONLY and yes it's still a "beta".
Now the 10.3 that you have is also a beta, and I think it's for a 32bit browser with certain new features. I haven't had time
to read all of the info(plan to) but I didn't see yet that it is even supposed to work in the 64bit browsers. That would be confusing as that is what the Square is for.
While this is a beta release of Flash Player 10.3 for desktop operating systems only, we are planning to release Flash Player 10.3 for mobile and the next version of AIR and AIR SDK for desktop and mobile soon. (That's interesting!)
Well I just went to find out and here is this:
When will Adobe Flash Player support 64-bit operating systems and browsers?
Flash Player 10.3 will not have 64-bit support. Support for 64-bit operating systems and web browsers on Linux, Mac OS, and Windows is currently available in the Flash Player "Square" preview release on Adobe Labs. Developers can use the "Square" preview with the current Microsoft® Internet Explorer® 9 beta. Availability of 64-bit support in a publically available release for consumers will be announced at a later date.
It's confusing, but there is only one Flash Player that supports the 64bit browser and that is Square.
The 10.2 is for 32bit or 64bit Operating Systems but only works with the 32bit browsers.
The 10.3 is a version that is in beta and will be shipped, but it appears it will be only for DESKTOPS.
If the 10.3 is working fine for you, I'd keep it. Are you sure IE9 that you have is a 64bit? I wasn't aware of that at all.
Well, hope I haven't confused you in trying to explain this
    Hope this message goes thru.
    Thanks,
    eidnolb
