Flex application rendering issue in Firefox on Mac OS X Lion (10.7)

Hi,
I am facing an problem to render an Flash Builder 4.0 application on Mac OS X Lion (10.7) with Firefox latest version and also with latest version Flash Player. I had tested the same application link on Mac OS Snow Leopard (10.6.8) & Windows OS with latest versions (FF and Flash Player) is working fine.
Tried to run sample application created using Flash Builder 4.0 and Flex 3 and after hosting it, trying to run on Mac OS X Lion (10.7), but facing same problem. Additionally, I had tried to run different application (for example, http://www.pxldesigns.com/adobecrm/) to test the scenarios but facing the same problems.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Bharat Patel

Well, now there is a new release of Cisco Connect software which supports Mac OS X Lion 10.7.. The Linksys Range Extender setup software supports these operating systems as well:
- Mac OS X 10.5.8 or later
- Mac OS X 10.5.1 or later
Here is the link for the release notes: http://homedownloads.cisco.com/downloads/187/426/RE1000.Setup.1.1.Release.Notes,0.txt

  • Embedding Fonts in a Flex application -- Legal issues?

I am currently building a Flex application for a Client. The Style guide they have provided shows Univers 55, Univers 65, and Univers 45 as the main fonts for the site and the app.
Page 1567 of Using Flex 4.5 states
    Note:
Check your font licenses before embedding any font files in your applications. Fonts might have licensing restrictions that preclude them from being stored as vector information.
The fonts they are using in the AI file for the design document appear to be older version Adobe 1.0 TrueType fonts dated 30th June 1997.
I can not find the original license for these fonts, but such licenses may pre-date embedding technology, so are we allowed to embed them?
As an alternative could we safely use the OTF Univers LT Std family and are there any differences?

As far as i see it, it's mainly just for convenience.
Embedding an image into application removes the need for you to store it elsewhere on the server, as it becomes part of the .swf file.
From personal experience it's very handy with small images, as it doesn't increase the size of the .swf file too much, and it means you don't have to keep track of them when distributing your release build.
you don't have to embed anything, you can simply reference it by location instead, but you'll experience a slight delay as it's loaded into the application on request.
The need for using this feature depends entirely on what you're trying to accomplish.
If you're making something like a large image gallery, it'll completely remove the need for wait for pictures to load when  you're scrolling through them. However i wouldn't recommend it as you'll send your application size will go through the roof, and the waiting time for the whole application to load would be fairly extensive.
If you have an application with like 40 small ~3kb images using for navigation icons or something, you might as well, it's just convenient and won't impact the loading time by too much.

  • Flex Application Hosting issue unable to access webservice from another machine

    Hi all,
I am having a flex application which is using webservice of the asp.net.When I host this application on the machine in which the webservice is present then it works fine. But when I am hosting the application on the another machine then the webservice is not being called. If any body have any idea pls suggest.
    Thnx in Advance,
    Shardul Singh Bartwal

You may need a crossdomain.xml file. Flex security does not allow your SWF to access data on other domains without it.
In this case even mysub.myCompany.com is considered a different domain from www.myCompany .com.

  • Cross-computer site rendering issues in Firefox

I'm having a problem with how Firefox renders a site we recently deployed at our company.
Our site has a standard link list navigation set at the top - block display, floated left, height/width padding to fit, the usual. However, the navigation breaks to the next line when viewed on my computer. In a fixed-width layout, this becomes an issue. Normally, I would adjust the padding values to get it to fit on one line, but the odd part is that through most of the initial development for the site, the navigation remained on one line and was never touched or adjusted after being created. Let me further elaborate by saying that this isn't a CSS inheritance issue or cascade issue. I'd be posting in the wrong forum if that were the case. I know this because the site renders the navigation in one line on several co-workers computers while breaking it to two lines on mine.
I attributed this to the 9.01 update as I had installed it a few hours before the navigation started breaking. I did an uninstall/reinstall of Firefox, system restore (in case it wasn't Firefox), and I even attempted to push the version back to FF8. However, I had my co-worker install the same updates through 9.01, and the site looks fine on his computer. Same for someone else's.
TL;DR - Our website looks different on the same browser/computer setup.
I poked around these forums a little bit and found a thread about the hardware acceleration setting "gfx.direct2d.disabled" and how it affects rendering. I switched the value to "true" and the site immediately corrected itself. However, I don't understand why this fixes the problem on my computer and why my co-workers computers (or anyone else for that matter) do not need to perform the same fix to have an unbroken experience. I went home later that weekend and my home computer also breaks the navigation into two lines.
Anyone have any insight into this? Thanks in advance.

No. We use standard system fonts for the entire site. Someone at the Mozillazine forums mentioned that the hardware acceleration feature triggers font metrics problems with certain system setups. Can anyone elaborate on this?

  • WebGL causing Rendering issues since firefox 28/29

For a long time the whole of firefox used to flicker all time, and sometimes it stays black till I resize the window. A lof Google search lead me to a solution (disabling hardware acceleration/many other things did not work) to disable WebGL in about:config and that solved my problem to a great extend. Now, the same issue is up in simulator, and as far as I searched, I am not able to disable it in Simulator. Is there any solution to fix this in Firefox (and hence in Simulator)? Sometimes the screen just freezes, though the pages are loaded in background.
I'm running Firefox 34 in Windows 8.1, on Lenovo B460e.

As you can see on the troubleshooting information page there are issues with your graphics display and the driver.
You can try to disable OMTC and leave hardware acceleration in Firefox enabled.
    *<b>about:config</b> page: <b>layers.offmainthreadcomposition.enabled</b> = false
You can open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location/address bar.
You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

Thank you! That fixes the problem in Firefox, but Simulator still behaves weird! Any solutions?

  • Issue with Opera on Mac OSX Mtn Lion

I am used to peridically downloading a new version of Flash Player from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ , but this time I did not get a Download button to press. It recognized me as a Mac user with Opera but did not display the button.
I tried switching to Safari for the download, but I did not get the Do you have a different operating system or browser? prompt, only a question whether I wanted to download onto a different computer.
The only change I can remember doing was to download a new version of Shockwave Player just prior to the above attempt with Flash.
Any ideas how I can get that new version of Flash for Opera?
    Thanks,
    Bart

There's ONLY ONE Flash Player for Mac, regardless of browser (with the exception of Chrome, which has its own porprietary plugin)
You'll fine the offline installer here: Flash Player (for Mac OS X)
Right click and "Save as" then quit Opera (and any other browsers you may have open).
Mount the DMG and run the installer.

  • Font rendering issue in Windows 7 with Aero

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, and using Firefox 19.0.2. Aero is enabled, but the ClearType font smoothing is turned off.
At completely random intervals, text is rendered like this in Firefox:
    http://i49.tinypic.com/vgshv4.png
Sometimes it can be fixed as simply as hovering the mouse pointer over the affected parts. Sometimes I have to mark the text to get it rendered correctly, and sometimes it can be fixed by scrolling the page.
It can happen on any sites with any encoding, regardless of the font size and color, but I noticed it's extremely rarely happens with Japanese text. It never affects the whole page, only random parts of the on-screen text, and sometimes the interface text as well. Also worth mentioning that it never happens when Aero is turned off.
Is this a Firefox bug, or is something wrong with my system? Thanks in advance.

I had the same issue, uninstalling windows update kb2670838 fixed it for me. See also:

  • Tips For Solving the Mac OS X Lion Slowness (Lots of Beach Balls)

    Hi Folks,
Just a quick list of tips for this issue that some of Mac OS X Lion users face.
The main symptom is that we get the Beach Ball on almost any task, it takes 4, maybe five times more time to do what we need to do. So depending on the schedule, it can drive us crazy. I was facing that, and started to think that Lion was a Windows Vista relative.
Please remind that the tips below involve backing up and restoring your system. If you are not careful, you may lose everything. You are responsible for your acts. Be cautious!
    How I solved my issue:
    1) Checked for Disk Permissions and the Disk itself:
    - Applications / Utilities / Disk Utility:
    - Click on your disk, and then VERIFY DISK. If everything is OK, move on. If it is not, REPAIR DISK.
    - Now click on VERIFY DISK PERMISSIONS. If everthing is OK, move. If not, Repair.
This step 1 is to make sure that your slowness is due to something related to the OS itself and not to permissions/disk.
If this solves the slowness, then you are OK. Now further steps are necessary. In my case, this just helped a little bit. The beach-balling reduced by 20% only. Still too slow.
    2) Do a full backup of your system.
I used Time Machine. Make sure you have all of your applications closed. So the backup will be full. If you fail to do a good backup, you will lose everything! Make sure you do a good one. Maybe do it twice on 2 different disks! Now you have been warned.
    3) Do a Full Restore of your entire system.
Now, get that Install CD that came with your Mac,
    - Put it on your drive, shut down your computer.
    - While holding the C key, press the start button of your Mac. It will boot using the Install CD that came with your Mac.
    To recover your entire system:
Connect your Time Machine backup disk to your computer. If you’re restoring your system because of a problem with your startup disk, make sure the disk has been repaired or replaced.
Insert your Mac OS X Install disk, and double-click the Install Mac OS X icon.
In the Installer, choose Utilities > Restore System from Backup.
In the Restore Your System dialog, click Continue.
Select your Time Machine backup volume.
Select the Time Machine backup you want to restore.
    Follow the onscreen instructions.
    4) Remove the CD, and boot.
When I did that, the system came back very fast and responsive. No more beach balls (only on the really-intensive tasks), and everything was back to normal.
    5) So, what was it anyways?
Before doing this Backup/Restore, I was getting lots of DISK I/O ERRORS, specially during boot time (you can check that by shutting down your mac, powering it back on and imediatelly pressing Command-V - Verbose Mode).
Sure, the first thing in mind was that I had a faulty hard drive, but I checked it several times for errors (via Disk Utility), and nothing showed up.
So I decided to do a full backup/restore of the system. And it solved it, at least for me.
    My config:
    MacBook Pro (2009 edition) - 5 GB RAM - 640 GB HD - Mac OS X 10.7
    Regards.

Also my mac will not complete my 5 software updates, no idea which software, but it said it could not do it. Also backing up with time machine had failed twice today. Thanks

  • Trouble configuring Virtual Hosts on Mac OS X Lion Server

    The issue
I have a mac server running Lion. I'm using the built-in apache web server along with virtualhostx, to host multiple sites.
The first site i installed http://digilab.co, works just fine in terms of it's URL (permalink) structure. Beautiful. However, I am hosting another site http://theurbandater.net on my server. When you go to theurbandater.net, it resolves just fine, but when you click any of the links you get something like this: http://digilab.co/~digisavvy/theurbandater/hello-world-1/. Both sites run wordpress and I'm not wanting to use MAMP.
The redirect seems to work fine, but for whatever reason, it doesn't present the link structure as http://theurbandater.net/hello-world…
I was hoping you might give me some insight into what might be going on. I've been banging my head on this one for a while now and can't get it figured out…
    Thanks!

    Hi digisavvy!
As you say "when you go to theurlbandater.net it resolves just find but when you click (...)".
I understand that the domain resolves, and the front page you reach is the right one.
That means that Apache is properly configured, so it reaches the proper site.
How the links are constructed within the site has more to do with Wordpress. You say that it points to the other server-name "digilab.co"... hmmmm.... Had you copy the source files and/or database from the other Wordpress you host?? =)
There are two places you have to take a look.
There is a configuration file called "wp-config.conf" or something similar. Review it and make the changes.
Also take a look at the Wordpress database, there is a table called something like "wp_config", and there you'll find some records related to "domain, base path, home url" etc.
All those records must be changed when migrating (or copy and pasting) Wordpress. Maybe search in google "Wordpress migration" to get more info.
If you haven't migrated the files or database, or you have already done this changes, let me know!

  • Firefox for Mac preferences shows .qif file format for quicken as "quicktime image format"-wrong application and won't let me select anything else

    Post to Firefox forum; Oct.2011
Re: Quicken 2007; Mac OS 10.5
Problem: can’t import or download Qif format files into quicken from bofa or Chase. Mac can’t recognize; how do I set preferences in Firefox (or Safari).
    https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/new?product=desktop&category=d1&search=Firefox+for+Mac+preferences+shows+.qif+file+format+for+quicken+as+%22quicktime+image+format%22-wrong+application+and+won%27t+let+me+select+anything+else&showform=1
    Hello,
I previously used Firefox on my old Mac G4 with OS 10.3.9; the above issue existed with that system and Firefox 2.00.2 (or similar). I then "tried" to move to a G5 Mac with OS 10.5, hoping that an updated Mac Operating system and updating Firefox would solve that problem.
I'm now working on my son's MacBook Pro, OS 10.5.8, 2.4 ghz Intel Core 2 Duo; 2gb Memory; 2 gb 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM.
I still have a problem in Firefox Preferences trying to download .qif files. BofA Mortgage accounts only allow downloading of .qif files. My .qfx download works fine, but the error message is as follows:
The error message is that this is a corrupted file or one that Preview doesn't recognize.
and it is still a problem when trying to download Quicken .qif format files for our B of A mortgage.
The preferences for Firefox under File Helpers won't let me name the extension I want; instead, it CONFUSES .qif (Quicken Interchange Format) with .qtif (Quicktime Image Format) for Mac.
Therefore, when I download .qif files and try to import them to Quicken, I get a message that this is a corrupted file:
    thanks for any help.
    Val in Seattle

Well, in the end, I just gave up and deleted the photos, in the hope that it was something to do with them. Took some more photos and they seem to have imported without any problems at all.
Given that the same irksome photos loaded on the wife's macbook without so much as a murmur, how weird is that?
Still- all's well that ends well. Thanks for the suggestions- much appreciated.
    Matt

  • UI rendering issue in Skin editor (11.1.2) on Mac

    Hi,
I just tried to run the stand alone skin editor (11.1.2) on Mac OS X and noticed some UI rendering issue - All the icon and menu are hidden unless I move the mouse cursor over them. (sometimes they don't even show up if I do so) And every time when I launch the program, I see lots of null pointer exception from "com.apple.laf.AquaMenuPainter.paintMenuBarBackground(AquaMenuPainter.java:140)"
It looks like a platform specific issue, since the Oracle claims Mac is also certified. Is there any work around for that?
    Mac OS X: 10.6.7
    JVM: 1.6.0_24
JDev: 11.1.1.5 (may be not relevant here)
    Thanks,
    Steven
Edited by: Steven on Jul 18, 2011 11:03 AM

    Hi Steven,
I just downloaded standalone SkinEditor 11.1.2.1 and had the same problem as you.
I managed to get round it thankfully.
As you mentioned, the menu items become visible sometimes when moving the mouse over them. I managed to find the Preferences menu item and opened it. In the Environment section I changed the Look and Feel from Oracle to Mac OS X. When I restarted the editor came up with no errors.
I don't think the Mac OS X look and feel is as nice though so I did some more digging.
I found a file called jdev-Darwin.conf in jdev/bin that contains Mac specific configuration for JDeveloper. In here I noticed the following line:
AddVMOption    -Dapple.laf.useScreenMenuBar=trueAs the error we were getting was to do with menus I copied the line into skineditor.conf and hey presto it works for the Oracle look and feel. The app menus are on the Apple menu bar rather than the Java app window but I can live with that.
    Cheers,
    Kevin
