Fluctuation in signal of potentiometer

I have a 10k potentiometer that I'm trying to read through Labview. I've gotten the signal to work and come through and everything, but there is a problem with the signal. The potentiometer is connected to a dial and returns a signal from 0-5 based on where the dial turns. So at 6 o'clock the signal gives 2.5 volts and at 9 o'clock it gives 4.5 volts. The issue comes with 12 o'clock. The signal can freeze at 4.997 volts for ~1% of the rotation and jumps to 1.45 for ~1% and then goes to zero.
I'm trying to detect very finely when the dial starts moving and when it stops moving. I can't seem to program a method to detect when the dial stops moving when the signal jumps around like it does. If you look at my program I try to set two criteria for when the dial starts moving and when the dial stops moving. The problem is the jumps in the signal towards midnight on the dial cause the vi to terminate prematurely because the signal acts erratically. Is there a way I can alter the signal of the device or can anyone think of a way to 100% come up with these two criteria?
Thanks,
kevin

Dial.vi ‏11 KB

Something like that will work great! I've just got to change a couple things because the data output, which I should have provided does something like this:
 4.997559, 4.997559, 1.425781, 1.428223, 1.42334, 1.42334, 0, 0
So I've just got to set a separate If statement that says if the value goes from 4.9 to 1.4 then instead of saying 1.4 is your old value force 4.9 to be the previous value for the next data point.
Hope that makes sense.
Anyways, thanks for the help all of you! I was very nervous about posting something on here and not sure if people would be helpful and I'm blown away by the involvement and help.
Thanks!

  • IMac wifi signal fluctuates between -24 and -80 other clients stable.

I'm experiencing Airtunes dropouts. The problem seems to be fluctuations in signal strength as shown in the screenshot in this link: http://gallery.me.com/alex.slaets#100343/wifi&bgcolor=black .
    Network:
3 Airtunes express in 802.11n only 5 GHZ mode, configured to extend the range of one wireless network.
    Clients:
    1 iPad.
    1 iMac.
All software and firmware is on the very latest version.
    Observation:
As shown in the image, the signal strength S/N remains stable at -24/-95 db for all clients in the network EXCEPT the iMac (22:FF) which fluctuates between -24 and -80 in 5 to 10 second cycles.
The iPad (C8:FB) is located near the iMac and its signal, remains stable.
Any ideas on what this might be ?

perhaps one of your neighbor's wireless networks is interfering with yours. download iStumbler (free) or AirRadar (it has a trial period) and note the channels other networks in your vicinity are broadcasting on. *change the channel(s) of your network as far away as possible from those*.

  • IPhone loses signal for several minutes?

I had AT&T before I got my iPhone and I know of certain areas around my neighborhood where the signal is weak. My old phone would sometimes drop a call in those areas, but seconds later, the signal meter would start to refill as I drove into a stronger signal area. With my iPhone, it completely loses the signal and displays "No Service" in the upper left of the screen. However, even as I pass into an area that I know has a better signal, it will stay on "No Service" for about 2-4 minutes before it finally finds the signal again! Anyone else notice this?

More information on my reception problems. I am now absolutely convinced that it is a either a tower problem or a SIM problem - AT&T problem not strictly iPhone. I spent several hours today swapping SIM cards around between the iPhone, Nokia N95 and Nokia E61. In all cases I did the testing in exactly the same location within our house. Here are the results:
iPhone: Signal strength varies from No Service to full bars at this single location in a random, completely unpredictable way. While on a call signal strength was 4 bars and during the conversation dropped to No Service and call dropped. Later my wife called and was sent immediately to voice mail. She then called me on the landline and I checked the signal and it showed No Service. When it goes to No Service it sometimes takes a few minutes to re-acquire just like others have reported here.
N95 with iPhone SIM card: Signal strength varies from one bar to full bars in a random, completely unpredictable way. But never actually lost service. I tried several Edge data connections and while slow when signal was low none failed. I do not remember seeing this random fluctuation in signal on the N95 before with my old (pre iPhone) Cingular SIM card but perhaps it was there and since it was still usable I just didn't notice.
E61 with iPhone SIM card: Pretty much the same behavior as N95 except no full bar signal strength showed. Completely usable.
I realize that the iPhone will probably never get as good reception as the Nokias but I think if it would quit the signal strength variation or tower hopping or what ever it is doing it would be usable at even 1-3 bars if the signal remained steady.
As another point of information in case Cingular and T-Mobile are sharing towers at my location, I returned my T-Mobile SIM card to my N95 and tested it in the same location as before and it showed a consistent full bars with no variation and perfect operation.
Unless something good happens to solve this problem soon, I think that when I find a reliable method or service that will unlock the iPhone I am going to do it and go with T-Mobile. AT&T is not ready for dependable operation at my location with the iPhone.

  • And on the 15th day.....

Maybe someone here can help, or by luck someone from VZ will see it and actually  be able to help me. Although I don't have my hopes high.
15 days ago I got my TB, 16 today, but I was too mad to seek help on here yesterday. I'm coming from a Droid Pro. Since January I have los most service to my location. I used to have suburb service and never had a problem in all the 3+ years I have been with them. In January my phone started dropping calls, messages wouldn't send or receive, and I missed calls every.single.day...
Fast forward to Sept 2nd. After VZ saying it has been documented in my area that coverage is marginal at best, I usually have 2 bars. I am (or was) allowed to get out of my contract for free. This isn't what I want, b/c anyway you look at it from what I've been told from other service providers VZ still shows the best coverage on there maps. But the tech support lady talked me into upgrading and trying a new phone, with new capabilities, maybe that would fix my problem. And I was given a network extender to make my service better in the house. But now what I've read online, and against what the tech support rep told me this thing will not just cause me to have better service from what I've read is this correct?
Well now here are my problems. Texts wont send to ANYONE doesn't matter what network! I get error codes of Cause code: 65535 and a error class of 3. Sometimes I just get a 1 digit code for an error. This isn't the 1st time in the 16 days now this has happened. It almost daily.  And I know tihs is a known issue but some of my texts go to random people, random numbers that aren't in my phone! Even using handcent.
I miss 95% of my calls. I am forever getting voice mails now. Even using a 3rd party messaging service it doesn't help.
I've even done a factory reset, and it hasn't helped.
At this moment I can't call out, and I have service!
Talked to a guy earlier, and he told me that on their coverage map it shows were considered really good service. Really? I would like to see what the best is lol.
So I don't understand how every rep I have talked to over the past few months can say we have crap coverage, and the all of a sudden we have really good?
Also when I'm on the phone and get a message and go to check it, the phone starts going black and then bacl to the regular screen over and over.
So can someone please just help me understand?
EDIT: and I have all these problems when ever I get to a 4G network as well.
And that freaking +1 I can't make it go away and most of the time can't talk or text those people. I have to go write their number down and then call them. I cannot go in and take the +1 out.

    Kyla1234
It sounds like you have been through quite a bit with your Thunderbolt  the past few days.
The network extender is designed to be a "mini cell tower" that you have in your home to improve cell coverage indoors with a 3G cell phone. At this time, there is not a network extender designed for 4G devices.
I presume you had a trouble ticket submitted for your area to see why the service has been so shotty lately; is that correct? If the results to the trouble ticket tell us you are in a marginal coverage area, then is is likely for you to have signal fluctuation, no signal, or even low signal.
I text quite a bit (in fact, I prefer it over speaking with someone) so I can imagine how pertinent it is for you to be able to text your friends/family/co-workers. With that being said, Regarding Cause code: 65535 and a error class of 3 I have heard of this issue and HTC is going to be releasing a software update to correct it. The cause of you not being able to send texts is because there is a 1 before the area code+number.
Please go in to your contact list, remove the 1 before the area code & attempt to send a text. Let me know if that works. By chance, do you have Facebook on your phone where it is linking the facebook contacts into your address book on the phone? If so, facebook automatically adds the 1 before the area code. You can still use Handcent if you prefer, but you will still need to remove the 1 before the area code.
Again, please advise if this works for you.

  • Wireless Problems: Observations/Possible Fix for Some (No Guarantees)

    Hi All:
I have been following our wireless problem threads. To a large extent, they revolve around lost connections, weak signals, etc. On my machine, I previously noticed what appeared to be wide fluctuations in signal strength, although I could almost always pick up one distant network that has to be at least 125' away regardless of my apparent signal strength. Also, I never lost my connection. I also have noticed that my Windows notebooks pick up more networks than my MBP, even though some must be farther away than 125'.
Recently, I had to reinstall all my software. Once resolved I'll explain why and what to look out for. Anyway, before the reinstall, I had done all updates. When I reinstalled, I also did all updates. The bottom line is that I have not seen the wide fluctuations in signal strength since reinstalling. Sometimes I see more networks than I am used to seeing.
Am I suggesting that you reinstall to eliminate the types of problems mentioned above? Definitely not especially if your problem is pretty minor. However, if your problem is significant, then think about it. Perhaps a greater than expected number of partially bad factory installs accounts for some of our problems.
I finished my reinstall only about 24 hours ago. I'll continue to monitor and will post back if I begin to see the wide signal strength fluctuations again.

Nope, thanks. I certainly advocate all trying any possible fixes prior to taking the drastic step of reinstalling. Hope the update works for all. I must of installed it yesterday with a number of other updates. Thus, it wasn't what "fixed" my system. But, it looks like it didn't hurt it either. Both are good to know:) Gosh, and looking at some of the recent posts in this category, I am glad that none of the recent updates hosed anything on my machine. Then, I'd me reinstalling again and being more selective about the updates.
I have to admit I have been throwing caution to the wind on doing all the updates. I think I'd better go back to my old style of seeing if there are update rumblings before I install them.

  • One fourth?

Only the iMac seems to get knocked out by interference, the iBook, xBox, & dark-side pc all maintain good signal strength, all the time, for weeks on end. If I move the iMac, and/or move the AEBS, and/or change the channel, I get the signal back full strength, but then after a while it begins to fluctuate and eventually stop again. Last year when I had this problem, I bought an Airport Extreme (I had an older Airport 802.11b), and that appeared to fix all my problems for quite a while. But eventually the fluctuations and signal loss came back. I thought that I had it solved a few days ago (actually did for a while with the help of Donald Morgan & iFelix) - but the signal eventually stopped. The iMac is only about 5 feet from the AEBS, and I currently have it connected to the AEBS via ethernet. The dark-side pc is right in the same room.
Why would I be getting interference problems with only one of 4? None of the others seem to fluctuate or lose signal strength, no matter how I move the AEBS or change its channel. Note: I had signal strength problems with the iMac, iBook, & dark-side pc just before I bought the AEBS (i.e. I was having signal strength problems everywhere when I only had the older 802.11b Airport). The Airport Extreme really solved a lot of apparent signal strength problems, but now it doesn't seem to be able solve the iMac signal strength problem. iFelix had suggested going to another 802.11x series, and that would no doubt help, but my problem seems to be only with one Mac. On the average, I am without signal now >90% of the time :^(
Does this sound implausible? Can it really happen the way that I am describing it?
    Gino

    Donald,
Thank you for your help. Although the card worked perfectly with the older Airport Base station for >3 yrs, it may be possible when I moved the iMac, that I may caused something to come a little loose. I had originally requested that Apple install the card when I purchased the iMac, at the Apple Store, and they did it right there that day. That was a while ago, and I guess it certainly cannot hurt to try what you said.
    Again, Thank you,
    Gino

  • Mifi 890L NIGHTMARE

Posted here just a few minutes ago and I even had friends look at the post. Then suddenly the post disappeared and no traces of it could be found, even the bookmark I made of it has disappeared. Might there be a mod trying to censor what the customers have to say about their service provider? https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/781785 was the link to my post. Someone care to explain what happened to it? Anyways I'll try to repost it though it won't be exactly the same. This time I'll save a copy and keep reposting until whomever deleted it gets tired or bans me. I had a Mifi 2200 for about 2 years and it worked OK. The charger port broke on that one and we were forced to get an upgrade to the Mifi 890L "JetPack." Worst thing I could have done apparently. This new device has been nothing but trouble since day 1. It struggles to get 2-3 bars when the 2200 got 3-4 bars consistently, I don't see how a device that sits in the same spot and never moves can fluctuate in signal strength so much. Frequently it goes to 1x and even roaming and sometimes it spikes and goes up to 4 and 5 bars of 3G signal but when it does that the device is unusable and I always get disconnected from whatever I'm doing. I get disconnected from chat, VoIP, online games and downloads no less than 10-20 times a day. How can verizon charge premium broadband prices for such an unreliable service? Frequently when it disconnects I have to manually connect it to the verizon network from the configuration page or it will just sit there in a "disconnected" state. The modem restarts itself whenever it feels like it, which is quite often. It has the latest firmware, I've gotten a replacement device and even a replacement SIM card that isn't the right size for the slot but it still "works" if you can call it that. Even the wifi the device puts out is sub-par, I'm only getting 2-3 bars of wifi signal from the device and it's sitting less than 8 feet from my computer in the same room. Verizon reps have told me that I'm stuck with this device even though I know there are other mifi models available because I saw one in the verizon store. It looks like a 2200 with a few more buttons on the front, so I don't understand why I'm being forced to use a clearly flawed model. I've also had quite a few reps tell me that it's safe to leave the device plugged into the charger but I've read quite a few user posts that say otherwise so which is it? I'm at the end of my rope with this "service" that I spend more time screaming at the modem than getting any use out of it. I'm about 1 more call to customer "service" away from telling everyone I know and even random people I meet in public that verizon is a sorry excuse for a phone and internet service provider and they DO NOT care about their customers. I guess they just know that if you're desperate enough to pay high dollar for limited access to an unreliable service, that you have no other options so they stick it to you hard as they can and care not if it works like it's supposed to. I'm furious!!!
This is the THIRD time I'm posting this, the last time it stayed up for about 20 minutes before someone removed it without sending me a message as to why, I'm just going to keep posting. Either tell me what part of my post breaks the rules or let it be. I've posted no personal threats, no personal information, no offensive or derogatory language. All I've done is describe the terrible service I've been given. Just to keep record the link to the last post that was deleted is: https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/781786 and when you go there it only states "Access to this place or content is restricted. If you think this is a mistake, please contact your administrator or the person who directed you here." I'd like a moderator to speak up and stop cowardly deleting my posts.
Fourth time now, I can do this all day and since no one is contacting me to let me know if I'm breaking any rules then I must not be breaking any.  URL for my third post is https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/781787 and I am taking screen shots now for proof.

Sounds like a loose USB port on the Jetpack.  Only way to repair that (without voiding your warranty) is to contact VZW and have them send you a replacement under the warranty.  USB ports are normally very quick and easy to troubleshoot with VZW reps.  They will get you a replacement without much effort as long as you are covered.  If not then they will review your options for purchasing a replacement or upgrading your device.

I have an ipod touch and it will not connect to my wifi.  It has in the past but now it will not even give me the option to connect?

Did you just update to BUGGY OS 4.x???
All the updates starting with OS 4.x have completely screwed up most iPod Touch', especially older models like Gen 2 and 3.
Inability to connect to any WiFi.
Fluctuating WiFi signal no matter how close you are to the AP.
Drastically shortened battery life, even when in sleep mode.
And Apple hasn't done a **** thing since irritated owners have complained about it since the middle of 2011!!
(I am one of many thousands affected!) Look at older threads by searches of "Fluctuating WiFi", Terrible Battery Life, for the Touch and iPhone.

  • Iphone 5 network issue

Hi I am using I Phone 5 since past two years. The Network career is Airtel. Now a days I am facing problem like Incoming & outgoing call drop.Connectivity of calls. and Network fluctuations. Also cannot access the internet due to same reason.Whereas I am using one more phone (another Blackberry )with same career & that's working properly. Initially i thought it is problem due to Nano SIM provide by the career & replaced the SIM few days back, but problem is remain the same. Please help.

Anything to do with connectivity on your phone and fluctuations in signal is a carrier issue and primarily issue, so there is absolutely nothing that anyone here can do to help you.
You need to contact your carrier about this problem - only they can help you.

  • Wifi for Ipad

I have been working on the dropped wifi issue since April 3rd. Going to discussions and trying everything, I went to an Apple store and was told to go to WPA. I did that and things were better bit not perfect. Went back to WEP and updated the router software and/or restored the software and changed the channel to channel 1. I also changed my password to five characters. So far, after about four hours of use, I see fluctuations of signal but not ONE drop of wifi. So far, this has worked for me and I have a FIOS system and an Actiontec ro

Although I haven't had issues with my home wifi, maybe this might be helpful to others who are having issues.

  • Dropped calls constantly on 4G with my HTC One Android

HiI have been a 3G Orange customer for years with only a few problems with the service provided when it came to calls made or received. I work in both central London and Norwich and regularly travel. The problems started when I moved to EE 4g network this spring 2015.  Since then in the same locations where I could make clear 3G calls I now have very low and fluctuating 4G signal on my HTC One. Furthermore, the incidence of dropped calls has increased to almost all of the calls I receive or instigate. I called EE customer service two months ago and they said that a mast was being fixed and that things should improve in my Norwich area - I think this is a standard delay tactic that the helpdesk has been told to say.  The dropped calls and poor reliability and signal problem follows me everywhere I go and nothing has changed.   Dropped calls occur in London and in Norwich and everywhere inbetween since I moved to 4G. My question to the community is - Should I ask EE to revert me back to 3G to improve call quality?  Thanks

    Hi
    Great Info
As  suggested it may be worth turning the device to 2G/3G to see if you experience the same issues with dropped calls.
Let me know how you get on.
    Thanks.

  • Extending AEBS(n dual) network with AX

    Hi,
I've read all or many of the threads here in relation to extending a wireless network with Airport Express. I have an AEBS connected to my cable modem and ethernet wired to my iMac. The AEBS shares a printer and disk across my machines. I have a number of windows laptops, both XP and Windows 7. I also have appleTV.
By following the various instructions i have found on these discussions, i have the extended network set up and working pretty well. The AX is providing better signal for me way downstairs where the appleTV was experiencing fluctuating poor signal from teh AEBS. So far, so good.
A couple of things that are bugging me which are apparent when i look at the wireless clients connected to each of the AEBS and AX when the network is alive and running.
If i look at the Extreme first, it shows the Express as a b/g/n client. If i look at the Express (which is extending the network) it shows the Extreme as type "Wireless" client. The express appearing as a client on the extreme has a relatively poor signal strength. The extreme appearing as a client on the express shows a very strong signal.
I move the express into the same room as the AEBS, just 10 feet apart with no obstructions etc, and the same thing happens - high noise and low signal on the express appearing as a client on the extreme.
This doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Firstly, should they each appear as a client to each other? Wouldn't the two devices pass data over the high speed wireless link showing as type "wireless" on the Express?
Secondly, why the imbalance in signals? Does this mean the transmit side of my AX is not working properly?
I'm hoping i've got some setup problem causing this issue. As i said earlier, the performance seems ok from my various devices (just surfing and piping airtunes), but i can't understand the poor link i am seeing and i am not sure what impact it is having on my network performance. The rate shown on this link frequently goes as low as 1Mb/s.
    Any help/suggestions appreciated.

    Thanks Duane.
I run airport utility on the iMac. The iMac is ethernet connected to the AEBS. I can see both of the devices (AEBS and AX) from the airport utility.
To look at the wireless clients on each device i use airport utility > manual setup > advanced > Logging & Statistics > Logs and Statistics > Wireless Clients
In terms of general behavior it appears ok - when i add a new wireless device it connects to the basestation which is nearest (best signal). I am just not sure that the connections between the two basestation devices are good enough to provide high bit rates through the network.

  • These range expanders are a pain....

First of all when i bought it and set it up and used the disk to run the setup program and the setup program FAILED to detect the WRE54G when it was well in range so I called linksys and the person on the phone was very helpful. The WRE54G Worked very well I had an excellent Signal But after about 6 weeks i noticed a high fluctuation in signal strength from excellent to low and i am a gamer so i can tell when the performance drops. why does it do this i know this is not supposed to happen so can anyone tell me why? i tried to download the update files and that failed i can get a very low signal without the range expander but i get an excellent with it most times why does it fail at random times like now. i had steady performance before and it started declining recently then fluctuating.

If the signal stregth is fluctuating you should tweak the wireless channel and see shich channel gives you steady performance...
If it does not help you should try to upgrade the firmware on both the units(router and range expander)...

  • Well, it got one!

after all the problems I was having with my old iPhone I went out anyways today and bought a shiney white 16gig puppy from my local AT&T store.
So. What's with the quick draining of battery?

I have 1 white 16 gb and 1 black 16 gb and both fluctuate in signal from 3 bars to 1 bar on 3g and very similarly on EDGE. I know where many of the local AT&T towers are and as I drive past them (within 2/10ths of a mile) I get 5 bars but the signal quickly deteriorates to 1 or 2 bars when I am more than a 1/2 mile away from the tower. I have been in to my Apple store and they replaced both phones with no improvement and I have been both on the phone with AT&T and in their stores. They claim they are going to send a tech out to check my area, but this problem is happening to me all over the Grand Rapids metropolitan area. They better fix it or I am canceling.
