FLV files plays in preview, but not showing up on my LMS

I have imported a single .flv file into Captivate 4, which was created in Flash 8. It shows in preview mode, as well as when I preview in IE browser, but when I launch from my LMS, I get nothing on the page. I can embed an .swf  video file that was published out in Flash 8, and when I embed that into Captivate 4, it plays fine in preview mode and in my LMS. I have tried using different settings in Flash to render out the same video and nothing has worked. Any thoughts?

Jp,
Thanks for the info. I did check with Tech Support from the LMS, and they assured me that the LMS does support .flv files. However, our online modules are launched from a webserver separate from the LMS, and that server needed to have the proper MIME type configured. By default, Windows 2003 Server does not have an associated MIME type to support deploying FLVs.
Specifically, it needed to be set up to recognize .flv files with the correct file association and content type specified. That took care of it.
Thanks,

  • Music player shows & plays on preview but not online

    Hi. I'm using a Windows 7 laptop. I'm trying a quick & dirty update on an old site, so I'm updating the music clip(s) player, 3 actually.  They show up and play the clips in Dreamweaver, they show & play the clips when I preview from Dreamweaver using Chrome, Firefox and IE browsers.  But when I uploaded them online the players show but the music clips don't play(!?!).  The clips are between 2-5 mins.
    I thought Windows did something funny like make the files look back to my local drive, so I copied & pasted from "my documents" window & uploaded the files again overwriting them from an XP desktop.  Still nothing.  Help, please.  This is a portfolio piece, but I don't want to spend too much time on it more than I have already.  The page can be found at http://www.pinkturtle.us/felicite/sample.html
    Thanks,

    Hello everyone.  Thank you very much for your advice and help -- and your time looking into this project for me.  I really do appreciate it.
    Gramps, the folder wouldn't show anything if one types in that url directly because there are no html files there, right?  Only my music files (m4a (which are mpeg 4 audio files that worked on ie5 and play when previewed through Dreamweaver)) and music playlists, which reference said audio files, are there, oh and maybe a txt file or two.
    Hans would a server have issues with m4a files now if they haven't before?  In any case, I have replaced the 1st player's "playlist" with just 1 aria bypassing the m3u playlist altogether.  The second player goes to one of Charlotte Church's pieces as an mp3; the last player has the playlist m3u extension.  These m3u files, mp3 & m4a files are all in the folder called music_samples.  They are referenced from this experimental/mark-up page: http://www.pinkturtle.us/felicite/samples_fr.html
    And, it works in Chrome -- when browsed through Dreamweaver. (I'm having no luck with IE...)
    So what's up w/ that?  It was all working from my laptop last week.  I can't imagine what I did to this site.
    Again, all your help is appreciated.

  • XML (RSS) Spry Dataset File Works in Preview But Not Over Internet

    hello
    I am trying to build a custom feed reader using the Spry framework in Dreamweaver CS4 and everything seems to go smoothly until I actually host the file (with the accompanying js and css files) and try to view it over the internet
    previewing from DW shows everything working the way it should
    I feel like I am missing something obvious ... but not sure what
    thanks for any help!

    Hi, i have a similar problem..
    These URL returns a XML:
    1) http://www.bolsadesantiago.com/intradayServlet?symbol=IPSA
    2) http://www.valorfuturo.com/contenidos_vf/proyectos/clientes/penta/titularnoticias.asp
    I use a CS4 and both works in preview, but only first works over internet (IE7).
    I suspect that 2° has a problem of syntax XML, but work with jQuery.

  • HDV file plays in VLC but not Quicktime?

    I have a 3 minute video, shot in 30fps HDV and exported to an HDV (1080i60) Quicktime File (.mov). The file plays great with VLC, but Quicktime tells me a component is missing. It plays the audio, but no video shows. Even if I download whatever component I need (I am not sure what I would need), this is for a client, and they would have to do the same thing, presumably. Could it have been something in my Compressor settings?

    If you have FCP, you should have the HDV codecs. If you do an they won't play this, then it is possibly some other odd format. The non-standard image size points to something wacky going on.

  • Menu audio will play during preview but not when disc is burned.

    Encore CS6.
    Menu music plays fine in preview. I know that the file is good. No menu audio after disc is burned. Have tried several different transcoding options. There is menu video too that is working fine.

    Here are notes I couldn't find before I posted that; just general re testing methods:
    Mounting an iso (or building to a folder) is a great way to test.  There are some differences, but it is a great method prior to burning to a disk.  The main difference is simply computer vs dvd player - autoactivate on a button doesn't work with a mouseover, and you can be fooled into thinking your navigation does, or does not, work.  (Even on the computer, don't use the mouse for testing, use the "remote" in the player controls.)
    Encore preview is an emulator, like computer DVD players, that attempts to predict what will happen when a disk is played on a set top DVD player. It has always had issues with some predictions not being accurate. Some inaccuracies are like this one: Encore preview does not work, and a burned disk will. Others are the opposite; it works in Encore preview, and not in a DVD player. The point to be made here is that you cannot rely on Encore preview. You also cannot rely on computer playback of a built image or folder. And, in the end, you cannot rely on playback on one DVD player - some disks work on some players and not on others.

  • Captivate 7 - Published file plays in HTML5 but not in SWF

    I have a project that I've published in both SWF and HTML5. I'm assuming that the browser reads which version to play. The project will play on my iPad, but not on my computer using Chrome or IE. I have published other projects with no problem. What could cause this one not to work?

    The code you have posted is not the same code as used in:
    <div id="gallery">
    in the link above.
    The reason that the Flash is not displaying in FF is that the portion of the code used by FF was omitted. The code currently used on the page only works in IE.
    I'm no great fan of the IE conditional statements used in the code you posted so I don't blame you for not using it. But you do need to provide something for FF.... the old, out dated method would be to add and <embed> for FF... here's the newer method..
    So either use code you posted above or better yet, get rid of that and replace the current <object> with
    <div id="gallery">
    <object id="FlashID" data="flash/201.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="958" height="242">
       <param name="movie" value="flash/201.swf">
       <param name="quality" value="high" />
         <param name="wmode" value="opaque" />
         <param name="swfversion" value="6.0.65.0"/>
    </object>
    </div>
    Give that a try. Will work in both FF and newer IE versions.

    Are you sure you are uploading the pages to the correct location?
    Could you post a screen capture of your expanded files window, showing the remote server and local file structures?
    I'm guessing they're not identical and that you may be uploading to a redundant root folder.

  • Plays in preview but not when posted on internet CS4

    Hello,
    I created a quiz that has several small video in AS2.  It works fine when I preview it, but when I post in on the internet it plays the first video and goes to a black screen.  I created the page and clicked to publish it.  I then exported the swf by hitting file/export/export movie then saved this and posted it to the internet.  This is how I have done it in the past, but now I get a blank screen.  Any help would be appreciated.
    Mark.

    At least on my side it only plays the first video and does not progress.  There are twenty-five videos after this, they are all very short  but they progress.   Is this progressing for you?  Perhaps it is my computer if so. Please let me know.
    Thanks again,
    Mark.

  • Movie plays in preview but not playing in chm

    files to a HTML Help project.
    I've added the files to the Baggage Files and the Multimedia

    When I preview the help page in RH, the movie plays as
    expected. But, after compiling the help, the page looks blank and

  • Wma files play on Mac but not in iTunes?

    Hi
    I have a few .wma music files which play great in the Finder (the usual set of music controls in the preview window) and also in QuickTime, but I can't get them into iTunes where I want them.
    Since the Mac has various ways it recognises and plays these files, it must be a simple matter to get them into iTunes, no? Trouble is, the (no doubt) obvious answer hasn't hit me yet!
    (The long-winded way would be to output the music from QuickTime on the headphone socket of the Mac and record it on my hi-fi minidisc, then record it back to iTunes via Griffin iMic, but that seems like a sledgehammer to crack a nut, as well as losing something from two further sets of compression, WMA > ATRAC > AAC).
    Anyone help?

    The "long-winded way" isnt' necessary if you're willing to spend a bit of money. You can convert them with EasyWMA or with QuickTime Pro and the Flip4Mac import codec (not the free version) and so save a few steps and conversions.
