FLV video to appear in front of SWF movie

Hi, I have a FLV video with a transparent background that plays in front on a HTML based website perfectly fine. But when place in front of a website that's a SWF movie in a HTML shell it comes up fine in Mac based browsers, but appears underneath the SWF file in PC based browsers. Does anyone know how I can get the FLV to appear in front of the SWF in alll browsers?

Have you tried setting the wmode="transparent" in the html embedding code for the swf file. That normally causes an swf to drop down to page level z-wise. Normally Flash will otherwise sit above other content.

FLV Video not appearing

I have been trying to convert some VOB video files to flv
files.
I have used a converter to convert the VOB files to MPG.
These mpg files display fine when I launch them within Windows.
When I create a new flash file and import the video, the video
appears as a 32 by 32 black square. I have included play controls
but pressing play, nothing appears. However the progress bar moves
along as if it is playing. There is no sound either.
Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Many Flash Video encoders can't process muxed MPEG-2 program
streams (your run of the mill MPEG-2 file, including VOB files). I
wrote an article on MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 usage in Flash Video encoders

to convert a swf file to avi or mov you need a third party
application to accomplish that, there are few of those google it.
In case you want to export a .fla animation to a video
format, just go to File -> Export -> and select the
appropriate container (avi, mov) change the output settings on the
dialog box and you're ready to go.

I have a FLV video that is linked from my SWF file (It plays inside a flvplayback component in my movie). I'd like the flv to zoom (as it's playing) when the User mouses over it. Is that possible? I've been able to 'Create a Motion Tween' on it so that it plays in editing mode but when I preview it, the flv just stays the same size.
I've been doing this zooming with symbols/shapes (using the 2d-zoom motion preset) but I'm wondering how I would do this on a flv. I need the video to be playing as the transform changes so I can't just zoom an image that looks like the video and then swap it for the real video when it gets actual size.

Why won't Front Row play movies located in my iPhoto Library?

I currently have a little over 300 short movies from my digital cameras. I keep them in subfolders located at /Users/shared/Shared Movies/digital camera movies/ and Front Row plays them just fine under each user account since each user has an alias to /Users/shared/Shared Movies/ located in their "movies" folder within their home folder.
Recently a buddy convinced me to import my short digicam movies into iPhoto as an easier way to organize the short .mov and .avi files. I have over 14K image files in my library so I liked the idea of browsing my video shorts using iPhoto. I created a smart album in iPhoto for all file names ending with .avi or .mov and that works great to quickly locate the relatively few video files in the sea of digital stills.
BUT... WHY won't Front Row locate or play the movies that are located inside of iPhoto's Library? Did they just forget this functionality? Front Row's Video player displays Video Podcasts located in iTunes why wouldn't there also be an automagic category that appears in Front Row for movies located in your iPhoto Library?!
Front Row chokes if I attempt to play the smart "movies" album I created in iPhoto. It just keeps spinning the little "train tracks" progress thingy and never shows a movie. I finally just hit the menu button on the remote to "back out" of that selection.
The other work around I tried to play these movies located in iPhoto was a smart folder located at /Users/shared/Shared Movies/ that displays filenames that contain .mov and .avi located in my iPhoto library folder. This doesn't work. Front Row's Video player will not display the movies found by a smart folder the same way it does for an alias to a folder or file.
I don't want to keep duplicate copies of these movie files on my HD. I'll have to keep them located outside of iPhoto so I can enjoy browsing and watching them "on demand" using Front Row.
What is the fix? Work around?

Thanks for the suggestion but that isn't an option. Think about how iPhoto stores images and movies you import into the photo library. It will import files originally located in one folder and scatter them by storing all the files in hundreds of folders and subfolders based on date. Originally I had my movies in my home movie folder and even used an alias to the shared movies. That all works fine and it isn't the issue. The issue is when you try to use the only tool Apple provides to organize your digital images, both still and moving pictures. Once you import your movies into the iPhoto Library they become invisible to Front Row's video player.
Once iPhoto imports my 300+ files and scatters them into hundreds of subfolders based on the date -how in the world would you even begin to maintain aliases in a folder that point to these files. That is NOT an option, who would do that?! That is why I decided to try the smart folder since it would dynamically locate all the files with .mov and .avi in the file name located within the iPhoto library. Good idea but Front Row will not play these files listed in the result set of a smart folder. It will follow an alias but not play the contents of a smart folder.
Front Row should handle movie files within the iPhoto library the same way it deals with videos within the iTunes library. Poor design, oversight, bug, whatever -it should be fixed. There should be an automatic category that appears under the Front Row video player for "Movies in iPhoto" and if you have no movies in your library it displays something like it does when you have no video podcasts, or no TV shows, or no music videos in iTunes. Come on, how many users have those items vs. an iPhoto library with movies from their digital cameras? I bet more users have movies from their digital cameras that currently drop through a gaping hole in the design of Front Row if they use iPhoto to manage their digicam movie files.

No FLV video in a linked SWF?

I’ve got an FLV video linked to an external SWF (a substage) that is itself linked to another SWF (the main stage) The FLV plays fine if I publish and run the substage independently but when the substage is loaded into the main stage at runtime I lose the video, all the other screen elements from the substage work fine. I thought it might be a path issue so I hardcoded a fully qualified URL as the video source with the same results; works independently, fails when loaded into the main stage at run time. Anyone know what’s going on? Thanks.
Flash CS5/AS3 using the video player component.

The FLV is linked to tutorial.swf via the standard video playback component. The video and tutorial swf are in the same directory, optimally the video should be linked with a relative path but a fully qualified URL is an option.
Tutorial.swf is loaded at runtime into the main swf using a standard loader class script. The main swf is in the parent directory of the tutorial & video directory (ie: it’s up one level).
Tutorial.swf loads properly into the main swf and plays audio & animations, the only thing it doesn’t show is the video, no error is thrown.
I’ve just discovered that I haven’t really tested the fully qualified URL option, my server didn’t have flv set as a valid mime type. If that works I’ll take it and move on, but I’d much rather a simple relative link.

Alpha Video... need to convert SWF to FLV

I am working on a video ad that includes video that was shot
using a green screen. The video has been masked and brought into
Flash 8, where background effects were added. Everything is working
perfectly with flash, but I need the final product as an FLV. I
cannot output a quicktime movie because quicktime only supports up
to flash player 5, and I need it output as flash player 8 to
support the alpha included on the video.
I attempted to import the SWF into Final cut pro HD 4.5 (then
output as an FLV), but I received a file error, guessing that it
may have an issue with Flash player 8 as well??
Has anyone else run into this issue and found a solution? any
help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the article.
I realized I had the embedded video placed in a movie clip
and had to convert those the graphic symbols.
That brings up another issue for me though. I need the masked
video to fade-in and fade-out at the end of each clip. The graphic
symbol is starting over at each keyframe, other than playing
through. Is there a trick to get this to work? Also, The sound is
embedded in the video, but it is not included exported movie
(quicktime movie exported with 44 kHz 16-bit stereo).

FLV Video - the SWF controller doesn't show on Net, does locally

Hello,
A client sent me an FLV video they'd like on their Web page. I imported it into Flash CS4 with these options:
Load External
SkinOverPlaySeekStop.SWF
I export this SWF with HTML and when I view the HTML in Safari, I get the video and the controller on top of the video.
When I put this up on the Internet, the video plays but the SWF controller buttons disappear.
I've searched this forum for answers and didn't find anyone with the same issue.

There should be 2 .SWF files and one FLV. I just want to make sure that they are allthere. You're saying "the" swf. One .SWF is the player of the FLV, and the other .SWF is the skin. So, in your case, you should have "home_page_video.swf", "SkinOverPlaySeekStop.SWF", and the video - not sure of the name, "yourvideo.flv".

Published a swf or html file from Flash (on Mac) that contains flv video can only play on Mac?

I created a flash file that contains a flv file inside. After I published it on my Mac in both html and swf format and it played well. But when I copied all this folder include the swf, html and the source flv to test on a pc it played well but the video part (flv) was blank. So I copied the .fla file to pc and published again, then it works fine (including the flv video part) on both pc and Mac. All the settings were same while publishing.
So I wonder what's wrong with publish from Mac side? I work with Mac and so it's very inconvenient to publish my work on PC.

This is the simple test. As you can see the video part (after the text) is empty and the flv file is actually the same location.
From last experience, if I pubulish this video from PC and upload them and then will play fine.

Difference between a Flash *.swf and a Flash *.flv video?

What is the difference between a *.swf and a *.flv video?
AFAIK both are Flash videos.
Are they compatible?
Is there a player (not from MS) which plays both videos?

Im guessing you're a complete newbie to all this, so in
simplistic terms:
- The FLA is the source flash file (the bit that contains all
the design stuff and code). When you publish a FLA, it creates a
SWF file.
- The FLV file is a video which has been converted to flash
video format.
- A SWF displays anything thats been created within the FLA
to provide things like a wizzy website, advertising banner or can
be used to show a FLV (flash video) with added functions. Although
it sort of points to the video rather than storing it inside (so
the file is smaller and manageable)
The benefits of using a SWF to play FLV's is that it displays
at lot quicker. F4V's (another variance) I've now discovered,
although are larger files, also display very quickly even with
larger files.
In terms of playback - do you want to view online or offline?
to view online, you just need to make sure you have flash
installed on whatever machine you're using - pc/mac.
to view offline (from your hard disc), download the Adobe
Media Player

How do i play my videos in flash file after moving SWF file to website?

Hello all,
I am having some problems showing my videos in flash after moving it anywhere besides my computer.
I published my flash file once as a exe. file and sent it to another computer, where it all worked but my videos, which didn't show up at all.
I also published them as SWF files, then put them up on my free website (where i don't have access to the ftp) and the videos still aren't there.
The videos will play fine in an SWF file on my computer, but i am assuming when they are away from the videos, they don't have a source to access them.
I also tried sending the videos along with the SWF files when sending to other computers and it still doesn't work.
I now have a free hosted website (with wix.com if that makes any difference) with my flash work on, but no videos. I even tried to embed a youtube video into the scenes the videos are meant to appear, and put the videos on youtube, then i discovered you can't put that sort of HTML into flash.
Does anyone know how to show the videos on these sort of website, or even better, how to keep them in original file when sending them, so they show on other computers.
Sorry if I've waffled but I'm trying to clear up my situation .

i am using the website wix, so in order to put the swf file up you just click the "Upload SWF" button, so i don't know how i could put the videos along with the swf, the swf is just sat on the page once i upload it.
second, when using this type of website do you know how i'd go about giving the website the permissions to play flv files?

FLV colorspace is different from Android to Android? Is FLV video HW accelerated?

I'm not sure how long this problem has been there, maybe since November 2012 when we launched the app, or did it just appear. I can dig deeper if I get any replies. It seems some of our FLV videos, which have a person speaking on front of a white (as in #ffffff) background, end up having gray background in some devices. I had a lot of trouble originally getting the encoding process work and I'm not sure if I even understood it in the end.
Videos have different color spaces, one having RGB values from 0-255 and others from 16-235 for example. The color space information is encoded in the video, which video playback software may use or not. In the end, videos look different with different playback software and hardware combinations.
I've trusted FLV, because I thought Adobe AIR does everything by software and thus it should work (and has worked) exactly the same on all devices. But not any more. The only thing I can think of, is that some parts of video playback is HW accelerated. Is it possible that my Galaxy Tab 10.1, which shows all videos correctly, doesn't use HW to render video, whereas Galaxy Tab 3, which shows some videos incorrectly, uses HW? It may also be, that some of our videos indeed have wrong color space information in them, a bug in our encoding process. But I need to understand how AIR works a bit better to get the problem solved.
We're using a complex command line script, involving Avisynth. The line I underlined may not have always contained ".ConvertToRGB().ConvertToYV12(matrix="pc.601")" part, which could be the problem, but not explain why this happens sometimes and on some devices.

I just tested this and it seems to work fine. Here is what I
did.
1. Within my Captivate project, I inserted the Flash .FLV
file.
2. I browsed to a file on my hard drive and the File Link
field listed the absolute path of C:\somefolder... blah blah blah.
3. I then changed it to point explicitly at the server where
I placed the .FLV. The link then looked like this:
http://www.MySever.com/FileName.FLV.
4. I dismissed the dialog and published the Captivate
project.
5. I uploaded the Captivate files to one server and the .FLV
on the other.
6. I ran the Captivate .HTM file and observed. The .FLV
played as expected!

Flv video not playing in AIR application

Hi everybody,
i'm building a tutorial with flash catalyst and since the 20 states limit i've split it up in different swf files that I import and show in different states.
One of these swf (which i built with Catalyst as well) is supposed to play a flv video, and it actually plays it if i run it alone.
The problem comes when i build the overall tutorial: it works perfectly with the "run project" command in Catalyst and with the run-local version but the video won't play if i try the AIR application.
Does anyone have any suggestion?
NB: the "asset" directory created with the AIR application installer does contain the flv file (i didn't have to put it there manually)

what I do is:
1. create a file using Captivate
2. i place a .flv video in this file
3. save the file as .swf
4. then i go to dreamweaver and put the swf on a html page.
Now:
when viewed in a browser, everything runs fine.
when i pack this page into an air application (in dreamweaver) the video does not appear,
instead I get this "Connection Error"
I do not know a console or log file.
However, I learned that there is a .xml file located in the same AIR folder that you publish in.
In this .xml file there is a setting :transparency. in order to playt a .flv file this must not be be "transparent"!
(i read this somewhere in the net)

Cap 7: project with an .flv video goes to Media Encoder

I have a Cap 7 project that includes a slide with an .flv video embedded. When I try to publish as both .swf and HTML5, the Adobe Media Encoder appears. I have no idea what to do with the encoder, if anything, and the publish process just stalls. Is the .flv video the issue? There is a note in the Cap 7 "publish project as HTML5" help that states that .flv files that are created using On2VP6 codec only are supported in the HTML5 output. Am I missing something?

Thanks to some points in this thread, I have solved my problem.
It was the KNOLL LIGHT FACTORY plug-in. I removed it, and the Adobe Media Encoder now works on my system. I assume that DYNAMIC LINKING between the CS4 apps also now works, but have yet to test that.
This also explains why my CS4 suite works on my MacBook Pro; I never installed KLF on my laptop.
Now I need to tell RED GIANT SOFTWARE about this problem, and either get a solution from them, or a refund.
