Folder options - Get photos from card - date syntax

Hi
I am used to working with Acdsee, but am trying to learn to use Bridge..
In Acdsee when Importing images from my sdcard I place my files in a structure like: 2007-08-12
I can't seem to copy this to bridge... yes the yyyymmdd does something similar but I really really really would like the dashes in the folder name..
I tried creating a custom folder, and just put in yyyy-mm-dd but that just gave me a nice folder called "yyyy-mm-dd" which is kindda useless :-)
How can I fix this?

hi Curt.
Thanks for answering, but I am not sure how your post is helpful towards my question?
I'd like my folder structure to match the one I already have .. which is
2009-12-10 for instance...

  • Get photos from camera: custom folder setting?

When I use Bridge to get photos from my camera, can I tell it to put them in specific folders according to the date the photo was taken? For instance, instead of telling Bridge to download photos with a filename mask like YYYY-MM-DD could I tell it to download to /Pictures/YYYY/MM/DD ?

You can't do so with Bridge, you might want to use scripting for this but
that is way out of my nowledge.
But to be honest, I don't see the benefit for this. I know that there are
near as many workflows as there are users but with the current filename
options you can use quit a bit of characters in a file name.
My normal name convention is using date, short subject and sequence number.
For you picture this would get the name: 20091103MyPhoto01.jpg
With this naming you will always have your files sorted regardless how many
there are in one folder. You can either use Bridge and\or Photodownloader to
use the sequence number (up to 9999) when having the same subject on same
    day)
And you don't have to dig that deep in the folder tree to reach the files
    you want when needed...
Thus if my photo was taken on 2009-11-03, I'd like to be able to tell Bridge
to put my photo in a folder like "Pictures/YYYY/MM/DD," which would result in

  • How do I get photos from the iPhoto import folder to the iPhoto library?  It uploaded, but hung while deleting from my camera, so no imported photos are in the iPhoto library.

How do I get photos from the iPhoto import folder to the iPhoto library?  It uploaded, but hung while deleting from my camera, so no imported photos are in the iPhoto library.  I watched it upload about 400 photos, one by one.  They're somewhere, but they don't appear in the iPhoto library. As iPhoto was deleting them from my camera, it got hung up, then a message came "you should eject before disconnecting a device."  I hadn't touched the camera.  The message came by itself.  I couldn't get iPhoto to respond, so I disconnected the camera and did a Force Quit.  Opening it back up, the pictures were gone.  Can somebody help me?

What version of iPhoto are you running?  Assuming it's iPhoto 9 or later Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

How to get photos from iPhoto back onto a SD card. I have a MacBook Pro with built in SD card slot. I have tried "Export" but this does not work.

It's best to export the photos to a folder and then drag the folder onto the memory card.  Memory cards are usually formatted for PCs, FAT 32, which doesn't permit more than a limited number of files in the root directory. Putting the photos in a folder gets around that limitation.

  • Getting photos from iPhoto to SD card

I have read many threads regarding this issue, but cannot find an answer that works. I'm trying to get photos from iPhoto to a 2GB Snadisk SD card for display on a digital photo frame.
I have tried direct drag/drop copying and exporting from within iPhoto, and get a message saying "out of free disk space" or "cannot create volume" after about 100MB of photos have transferred. Obviously there's a lot more space on a 2GB card.
I have tried, according to recommendations here, transferring the photos to a desktop folder and then to a folder on the SD card. This works but the photo frame cannot read photos inside a folder, they must be in the root directory.
I tried transferring to the card while in my camera instead of the card reader and get the same results.
I have reformatted the card in my camera and this did nothing.
Any other advice, or do I need to bag the photo frame?
    Thanks.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I have the same problem and haven't found the answer. I had to keep adding files one by one but could only get about 102 file, at 76 MB. IB took my 2G card back and used an old 128 KB card. I tried using folders also with no success. Emailed the manufacturer but haven't heard back from them. If you get a solution post it back here.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Get photos from camera option in Bridge CS5

I really would like to use the "Get photos from camera" option in Bridge CS5, as it would save me a few steps in my normal workflow (dowload images from my Canon 40D with EOS utility, convert to DNG, delete CR2 files, update metadata with copyright information), but when I try with with a large number of images, some RAW images are not downloaded and converted. All jpg images are downloaded. So I would get e.g. images 1.dng, 1.jpg, 2.dng, 2.jjp, 3.jpg - in othere words the 3.dng file would not download. Any help would be most sincerely appreciated.
BTW - when I use the Canon EOS Utility, all files get downloaded, but then these are all cr2 files.
I use Windows 7 64-bit as my OS.
    My thanks in advance.

On further testing, it appears that the download function works fine as long as the "Convert to dng" function is left unchecked. So the file loss occurs during the conversion process. I have looked but cannot find an answer - is there a way to batch convert downloaded cr2 files to dng from within Bridge? Or does one have to load up the DNG Converter separately?

  • DNG conversion fails sporadically with Get Photos From Camera

    Camera: Canon 40D and 5D
    XP SP2
    CS3
    Bridge 2.1.1.9
    ACR 4.4.1
    DNG Converter 4.3.1
Importing my files to Bridge using the Get Photos from Camera (GPFC) option results in sporadic DNG conversion failure. There's no pattern, just a lump of files that don't get converted at the end of the process. It's very frustrating because I have to manually go back and find the files that failed and use GPFC option again. Even then sometimes it fails again!
I'm attached to using the GPFC option instead of the standalone DNG converter because GPFC lets me automatically make a backup file to another disk and adds a template. But even when I use DNG Converter to import the files off my card, DNG fails for some of the files. Purging the cache only works half the time and for some of the files.
Is there any solution to the GPFC problem? I've seen people have similar problems, but with no real conclusions...
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

    Ramon,
No, I have tried purging/refreshing before and it doesn't help, because the un-converted CR2 files are just skipped over and put in the same destination folder as the successfully converted CR2 files (to DNG). I thought it might be a memory issue, but I never have any other applications open. As a test, I purposely opened some other applications to see if MORE CR2 files would be skipped, but the amount of files skipped was still random.
My "DNG Conversion Settings," accessed through the Get Photos From Camera dialogue, is set to:
    Jpeg Preview: Medium Size
    Compressed (Checked)
    Preserve Raw Image (Checked)
Embed Original Raw File (UN CHECKED)
Could some of my Edit>Preferences>Cache options be overloading things and causing skips? I use the default settings because I wasn't confident with messing around with the cache.
    Thanks

How do I get photos from my pc to Itunes to put on my IPAD?

    Hey Sandersincp,
These are the steps for adding digital photos to an iPad using iTunes:
Connect your iPod, iPhone, or iPad to your computer and select your device.
    Click the Photos button.
Select “Sync photos from” and choose an album or folder from the pop-up menu.If you’re using Adobe Photoshop Album or Adobe Photoshop Elements, you can export photos directly from those applications to your device by choosing Photoshop Album or Photoshop Elements from the pop-up menu.
Choose whether to move all your folders or albums, or only selected folders or albums.
To also move the full-resolution versions of these photos to your iPod, select “Include full-resolution photos.”Note:   To move the photos from your iPod to another computer, select this option, and also select “Enable disk use” in the Summary pane. This option isn’t available on iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad. For more information, see Use iPod as an external hard drive.
Click Apply. If it’s the first time you’re adding photos to your iPod, iPhone, or iPad, it might take a while, but subsequent syncs should be faster.

  • Getting photos from my ipad back to my Mac that are NOT in camera roll.

Our hard drive failed and my back up files were corrupt so I lost my entire digital life including my iphotos.  I had set up my ipad to sync several folders from  iphoto to my ipad when I did an itunes sync.  All of these photos and folders  are currently viewable on my ipad.  When I plug the ipad in to sync, i can only transfer the photos that are currently in the camera roll (355 photos)  There are 5000 photos on the ipad via the folders I previously synced.
How do I get these photo back to my mac?  Is it even possible?
Image caputer doesn't work because it only looks at the photos in the camera roll (ie taken by the ipad).
To sum up:  Basically starting with a new mac and trying to get photos from the ipad back on the mac.
    Thank You!

If you have iPhoto on your iPad, you can save the photos back to the camera roll: you can select complete albums or events at once to do that.
Save photos to the Camera Roll on your iOS device
Tap a photo, album, or event and tap > Camera Roll.
Tap Selected, or change the photos you want to save:
Select different photos: Tap Choose Photos, tap up to 100 photos, and tap Next.
Select a range of photos: Tap Choose Photos, tap Range, tap the first and last photos in the range, and tap Next.
Select all the photos in an album or event: Tap All.
    Tap Done.
To use your photo in another app, open the app and select the Camera Roll album.
For other sharing options from iPhoto see:  Ways to share photos
But a third-party app, like Terence Devlin suggested wll probably quicker and safer, since you have 5000 photos to transfer.
my back up files were corrupt
Have you tried data recovery software on your backup drive? Software like
    Disk Drill: http://www.cleverfiles.com/
might still be able to restore jpeg files at least.

When trying to "Get Photos from Camera" after the 2nd or 3rd photo has been moved to folders I receive a box that states:
The backup destination folder is low on disk space, and could not obtain all files from the device. (which is a compact flash card) Please select a different folder or cleanup disk space and try again.
Please note there is plenty of space available on both drives that the photos are being saved to.

    what Ramón says,
I use Downloader on a daily base and don't have troubles with it. And yes it is not a very brilliant piece of software but it does work.
I would suggest that you go to the user library/ preferences and in here find the downloader plist file. drag this to the trash, restart photodownloader (now at factory settings, you need to reset it again to your wishes) and try again.

in an other thread Scott showed an other application for image ingestion. It looks very great but you need to pay a small fee for it :-)

  • Trouble downloading photos from card reader-OS9.1 G4 Cube

Trying to download photos shot with Casio EXP600 onto Toshiba SD 512MB Card, inserted into Thunderbolt SD/MS card reader plugged into USB port on computer. Camera "Photo Loader" software downloaded OK onto computer. Get error message when try to download either .jpg or .tif files: AN ERROR OCCURRED IN THE PREVIEW FILE CREATION PROCESS. THE FILE WAS NOT CREATED. I can open a file on the card and see the photo on the screen OK, but not download it. If try to drag a photo from card to Photoshop Elements 2, get a .tif file with horizontal white lines every 1/4 inch or so; with .jpg files, get horizontal [possibly overlap] bands. [Also have trouble with .jpg files created with Microtek i700 scanner: get error message if try to open on desktop, though those open OK in Photoshop. Don't know if this is a related problem]. Thanks for any help. Jim Gerstley
Question is: am I missing some critical software or need to update something in order for these photos to download to the computer? The picture files meet the DCF protocol and are supposed to be compatible with MAC OS 9, 10.1, and 10.2 though not 10.0. I do have quicktime player 4.1.2.

Hi, James. Try this simple experiment.
    1. Create a new folder on your desktop, then connect your card reader. Double-click one of the photos on the camera card to confirm that it opens properly, as you've said they normally do. Drag-copy the same photo from your camera card into the folder on the desktop. Now double-click the copy. Does it behave exactly the same way as the original, or not?
    2. Now drag-copy a different photo — one that you've never opened on your computer — from the camera card into the folder on the desktop. Double-click the copy to open it. Does it behave exactly the same way as the photo that you had previously opened from the camera card, and then copied into folder on the desktop?
It may be necessary, for the results of this experiment to be most informative, to reformat your card in your camera and shoot some new photos before conducting the experiment. Reformatting will erase the photos currently on the card. But since they seem to be corrupt anyway, you've already lost them. Copy them all to your computer first anyway, in case any of them are not yet corrupt.
If the results differ between Step 1 and Step 2, then I suspect that what has queered things for you is the act of opening your photos while they still reside on the camera card, before copying them to the computer. The application they're opening in has made some obscure change in the files that isn't being saved properly on the card, and is corrupting them; consequently, they're corrupt when you then copy them onto the hard drive.
It's a good rule of thumb not to do anything at all with photos while they reside on the camera card: always copy them onto your hard drive before opening, editing, emailing, deleting, or doing anything else to or with them. It's an equally good rule not to do anything to the card itself while it's connected to your computer: to format it, erase it, or delete individual photos from it, always use your camera's controls, while the card is in the camera and disconnected from the computer.
By the way, a folder on your desktop is just another folder in a particular location on your hard drive — there's no functional difference between a folder in the hard drive window and a folder on the desktop, except that the latter is more conveniently accessible. The desktop itself is actually a folder on the hard drive, albeit an invisible one with a special display mode managed by the OS.
