Folio producer tools update required to use folio builder but content viewer app not available

Hi,
I have a problem with DPS Folio Producer tools.
We are unable to use Folio Builder to update our iPad presentation to the cloud because we keep getting this message: An update is required to use Folio Builder. Please click here to download Folio Producer Tools.
We have previously done this only to discover that the new version of Folio Producer Tools is incompatible with the Content Viewer and the new Content Viewer app is not yet approved, or available from Apple.
So we have done a rollback to a previous version of the Folio Producer Tools which worked for a few hours, but is now prompting for the update again - but as explained above we cannot download the update until the Content Viewer app is available.
HELPPPPPPP!!!

This is the DPS model.
When a company thinks first about monetizing solutions instead of making it an extra option.
You are not free anymore to use the tools you want, you must follow Adobe's decisions to update online apps.
Online apps are everything but good.
You will have to wait until the Viewer gets approved by Apple.
Dear Adobe: do you see how many people come here because they don't understand how your technical model works?

  • Announcement (January 16) - Folio Producer tools update

Digital Publishing Suite will be releasing new features and functionality Monday January 16 at 5:00 PM Pacific Coast time and Tuesday January 17 at noon. While the acrobat.com server is being updated, you may not be able to use the Folio Producer tools. New features include embedded overlays in slideshows, enhanced buttons that support sound/video actions, article relink, PDF pinch and zoom with all overlays, custom-created Adobe Content Viewer, and more. I'll post a more complete list after the update, or you can look at What's new in this release when help is updated.
Again, note that there are two separate installers: one for the Folio Producer tools and one for the Folio Builder panel. If you created a custom viewer using a previous set of tools and don't want to update your viewer app, install only the Folio Builder panel to stay in sync with the updated web client. If you want to update all your tools, install the Folio Producer tools first, and then install the Folio Builder panel. For this release, updating the Folio Builder panel is recommended but not required. See Installing digital publishing tools.
The v18 file format is a change from the previous file format, so any folio you create with the newest set of tools will not work with the current Adobe Content Viewer (2.2) or with custom viewer apps. Trying to open a folio results in a "Please update your app" message. However, if you have a Professional or Enterprise account, you can use the Viewer Builder to create a custom version of the Adobe Content Viewer so that you don't have to wait for Apple to approve. If you do not have a Pro or Enterprise account, you may want to wait until Apple approves the new viewer before you update your Folio Producer tools.

That's exactly why you should NOT have upgraded your tools !
You should have waited until you can work your way back from the end of the workflow (wait for your own or at least Adobe's upgraded and submitted Viewer to appear on the App Store), to the Folio's and Tools for InDesign (with new technical features) in the front of the workflow.

You don't.  Facetime is not available on UAE iPhones, regardless of where activated or used.

  • Update to Folio Producer Tools (Oct. 3)

Digital Publishing Suite will be releasing new features and functionality Monday Oct 3rd at 5:00 PM Pacific Coast time. There are now two separate installers: one for the Folio Producer tools and one for the Folio Builder panel. If you created a custom viewer using a previous set of tools and don't want to update the viewer app, install only the Folio Builder panel to stay in sync with the updated web client. If you want to update all your tools, install the Folio Producer tools first, and then install the Folio Builder panel. SeeInstalling digital publishing tools.
The v16 file format is identical to the previous file format, so any folio you create with the newest set of tools works with the current Adobe Content Viewer (1.9). Adobe submitted a new version of the app to Apple. When the new viewer is available, Preview on Device will work for the iPad (Mac only; third-party utility required). See What's new in this release.

    OK, I figured it out.
Deep in the Library folder (Application Support/Adobe/) there's a folder called "CS5ServiceManager" and inside that, there's a folder called "extensions". When I checked in this folder, there was another folder titled "Overlay Creator" but nothing about folio builder. I went back out to the Adobe folder and noticed that there was another folder titled CS5.5ServiceManager. Sure enough, inside the extensions folder was a Folio Builder folder. I simply moved that folder to the CS5ServiceManager/extensions folder, restarted InDesign and voila, Folio Builder appeared in the extensions menu.
I suppose it's possible that I accidently downloaded the CS5.5 version of Folio Builder but I honestly don't think so. Would the 5.5 version even work in InDesign CS5?

  • I have used the wrong folio producer tools version

Hi there, I have been working on a custom folio for a few months now and my client has just informed me that I should be using version 1.11 of the folio producer tools.
I have been using v21(2.6). Is there a way I can resolve this problem without redesigning the whole app using the older tools as it is near completion?
    Thanks
    J

You can install the older version of the Folio Producer tools and re-create your folios.

Can you ask your client to update the version of the app in the store?

  • An update is required to use Folio Builder.  Please click here to download the Folio Producer tools.

    Hello,
I'm using CS 5.5, Mac OS 10.8.4. I've spent the last two nights trying to figure this out but I am really stuck this time... I think the issue I'm having is similar to IDEAMAN1 but I got lost on his advice after trying some stuff out, so help would be greatly appreciated!! (I'm only medium-level tech savvy...)
Trying to create my first epublication. Downloaded FolioPanel v26 and installed it, then FolioProducerTools v27 and installed it. Realised I had stuffed it up so uninstalled both using the uninstaller. Re-downloaded FolioProducerTools v27, FoiioPanel v27 and installed in that order and popup said the updates were ready to go. Opened InDesign and folio builder panel said "An update is required to use Folio Builder.  Please click here to download the Folio Producer tools.". The link brought me to http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=172&platform=Macintosh which is where I downloaded the original files anyway.
So I've tried uninstalling, restarting the computer, trashed preferences, closed CS5.5ServiceManager, reinstalling heaps of times and not sure what I should try next. Please help!! Thanks!!!!

That notification is often a bug.
I get it regularly when I launch InDesing while connected to my Thunderbolt Display.
If I disconnect my Macbook from the Display, relaunch InDesign it works fine - reconnecting to Thunderbolt display after this also still allows the Folio Producer tools to load properly.

  • "An update is required to use Folio Builder"

    Hi,
I suddenly got this error 2 days ago, and it's been going on for days now.
I contacted my reseller for DPS and to be honest it's real "****" the only solutions they can come up with are the same solutions I find on these forums which none of them work.
We pay about 12.000 euro for this whole system a year and there isn't even a decent amount of support on this.
Here is a list of things I've tried:
    - Uninstalled Folio Builder and Folio Producer Tools, Reinstalled both tools
    - Uninstalled Folio Builder and Folio Producer Tools, Removed Folders and Files from "Application Support", Removed Preferences, Reinstalled both tools
    - Uninstalled Folio Builder and Folio Producer Tools, Removed Folder and Files from "Application Support", Removed Preferences, Uninstalled Indesign CS5.5, Reinstalled InDesign CS5.5, Reinstalled Both tools
    - Fixed Permissions on my HDD using OSX Disk Utility
    - Changed InDesign Folder Permission to Read & Write for everyone on the "Applications/Adobe InDesign CS5.5/" Folder (and child files and folders)
    - Rebooted dozens of times.
    - Disabled Firewall (in case a port was getting blocked or whatever)
The thing is... this happens on 2 iMacs and the other iMac is fine.
All macs are iMac Late 2013 and run the latest OSX Mavericks updates.
Also all iMacs use InDesign CS5.5

    Hi,
Based on your first post it seems you use InDesign CS 5.5 and WoodWing. We have +50 apps running on the very efficient combination of DPS for apps and WoodWing for content production.
If you use a plain InDesign CS 5.5 without WoodWing the answer from Adobe support will be "you can't use DPS with InDesign CS 5.5" - as CS 5.x is no longer supported and hasn't been since early September. CC will however work.
If you use InDesign + WoodWing then you should go to the community.woodwing.net site to get support. Adobe support won't be able to help you. CS 5.5 is still supported when using WoodWing, and we have daily newspapers producing on that combination - so... I would be the first to know if it stopped working (but it does).

  • UPDATE: Folio Producer tools 1.1.0

(June 14) The new version of the Folio Producer tools (Drop 13) is now available to install. However, before you install the new tools, note the following:
    * The Adobe Content Viewer for the iPad that works with these tools is not yet available in the Apple Store. You cannot use the current viewer to preview folios created with the new version of the tools. The Adobe Content Viewer for the Android and for the Desktop are both currently available.
    * Any folio you publish using the new set of tools is incompatible with a custom viewer app created with a previous set of tools. If you publish folios using the new tools, update your custom viewer app in the store.
Some customers have reported problems in uploading articles to acrobat.com. If you experience problems with uploading articles or downloading folios to a mobile device, please let us know through the forum so that the product team can address the issue.
As always, thanks for your feedback.
Click here for a list of drop 13 new features.
    Bob

It looks like logging in the acrobat.com account never finishes (see Screenshots) even when i delete all my workspaces and files (since the hole week)
My clients are so happy abut that, can't tell you this solution really makes my life so easy
spending hours and hours trying, hoping, changing (articles which already works fine in previous versions)

  • Folio Producer tools and problems after updating to 1.1.2

Folio Producer tools for digital publishing suite has been updated to 1.1.2. Donot log in with a message. "An error has occurred while communicating with the server. Could not test Folio Builder and server compatibility. Please check your network connection and try logging into the panel again." Message that pops up.Work environment is Windows 7, Adobe InDesign 5.
1.1.1 version did not have any problems after the update, the problem occurred.
I wonder what has to be resolved.
During the following posts in the same case shows the problem has beenresolved with the people saw a wonder.

I have the same problem (as explained at length in this thread), with the Folio Builder 1.1.2 update using InDesign CS5 under Windows XP. I can even sign in to CS Live services within InDesign, but opening the Folio Builder panel then produces the same error that you're getting.
The only workaround is to uninstall DPS and then re-install it step by step, stopping after the second patch. Do not install the latest Folio Builder because it does not work under Windows, as far as I can see.

  • How can I check the version of the Folio Producer tools that a publication has used?

I work on several different iPad publications, many of which use different versions of the Folio Producer tools (some use version 1.1.1 while some use 1.5.0 or 1.6.0)... how can I quickly check the version of folio producer that a publication has been using? I want to aviod accidently working on a publication with the wrong Folio Producer tools which will neccessate recreating a new App.

Here's how to tell which tools you're using and which folios .
To see which tools are installed, choose "About" from the Folio Builder panel menu, and look at the last numbers. For example, 7.0.5.17 means you're using the v17 tools.
To see which viewer version you're using, open the folio in the viewer (either the custom viewer or the Content Viewer) and tap the title. The first two numbers indicate the viewer version. For example, 2.2.0.13.34603 refers to the 2.2 version of the viewer. Unfortunately, the viewer version doesn't match the Folio Producer tools. Here's how they match up:
    v12 (tools) = 1.7 (viewer)
    v13 = 1.8
    v14 = 1.9
    v15 = 2.0
    v16 = 2.1 (not available for iPad)
    v17 = 2.2

  • Update new Folio Builder Panel but not the Folio Producer Tools?

    Hi Guys
I was prompted to update the Builder Panel so I have done this now. I have read some older posts from last week about the new producer tools with new interactivity inside MSOs.
Is everybody still having problems with this update or has the bug been fixed now?
I'm not on such a tight deadline but I don't want any problems! Should I hold fire on updating the Producer tools?
    Cheers
    Gemma

You can update the viewer builder panel independent from producer tools.
So you can stay on version 17 of the tools but you need the current folio
    builder panel.

  • Nov. 10 - Folio Producer Service Update

At 5:00 PM PST, the Folio Producer Service on the web will be updated. This update requires you to update the Folio Builder panel:
Mac OS: Download Folio Builder panel
    Windows: Download Folio Builder panel
This update includes support for the Single Edition and Amazon Appstore.
You'll be able to download the new Viewer Builder (v1.7) from the DPS Dashboard.
The DPS desktop tools (Overlay Creator panel and Content Viewer) will not be released until all the viewers have been approved in all the stores. (In other words, we'll release the tools when Apple approves the new version of the Adobe Content Viewer.) When the desktop tools become available, you'll be able to add all overlays except slideshows to scrollable frames.

You need to download the update

  • Need links to previous versions of Folio Producer Tools and Folio Builder

Got stonewalled trying to view a folio that had been updated using Release 18 tools on the iPad Content Viewer (2.2). So, I need to reinstall previous versions of Folio Producer Tools/Folio Builder.
I'm aware that the issue is Apple has not yet approved the latest Content Viewer (2.3). In the meantime, I need to keep plowing ahead on a previously built folio, which means using older versions of the tools.
Can anyone help with links to previous versions of the Tools and Builder?
Sorry any redundancy. Posted the message below on a post earlier this morning:
Any ETA on Apple's approval of the new Content Viewer for iPad? Hoping very soon.
Currently working on a folio that was started with pre-Release 18 tools. We updated tools on one computer to Release 18 this morning, made a few tweaks to a single article, then updated it to the folio.
As you predicted, Bob, we can NO LONGER VIEW the folio on our iPad Content Viewer (2.2). And our Enterprise license is still in the works so we can't build a Custom Viewer.
Anyone have a link to pre-Release 18 downloads to reinstall the old Builder panel and Producer Tools on this computer? Or any other ways to circumvent this problem?

Thanks, John. Still not out of the woods yet.
Uninstalled Release 18 Folio Producer Tools and Folio Builder Panel. Downloaded and installed the AdobeDigitalPublishing Patch-All.dmg from here: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5226
Now, when I open InDesign, I get this prompt ...
And I can no longer access Folio Builder (Window > Extensions > Folio Builder). However, the download site for the patch says that the patch includes the Folio Builder panel:
    Any solutions?

  • No succes with installation of Folio Producer Tools

I have the Folio Builder Panel on the screen, but it asks me to download the tools. I did that and installed it and the panel again asks me to download and install. I repeated this again, same result ?! Any ideas? Maybe I am doing something wrong, because this happened on two different macs.

You'll probably need to update both the Folio Builder panel and Folio Producer tools.
Before proceeding, it'll be a good idea to ensure that InDesign is updated. Choose Help > Updates.
Download and install Folio producer Tools. Mac OS: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5305 | Win : http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5303
Download and install Folio Builder panel: Mac OS http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5153 | Win: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5155
Let us know if it works.

  • Clear process to unisntall Folio Producer Tools and go back to previous version

Does anybody know where we can find a clear process/tutorial to uninstall the last version (v19) of the Folio Producer tools AND go back to the previous version please ?
Because this is not clear enough to me
"To uninstall the Folio Producer tools, do either of the following:
In Windows, use the Control Panel (Add/Remove Programs) to uninstall the Adobe Folio Producer tools. (For older versions of the Folio Producer tools, you must uninstall InDesign CS5.5 to uninstall the tools.) "
What does "For older versions of the Folio Producer tools, you must uninstall InDesign CS5.5 to uninstall the tools" mean ???
    Does it mean
1: "if you got old version of FPT and want it remove, do so" or does it mean
2: "if you want to go back to a previous version, do so" ?
Thanks for not bashing, i just get lost ....

Neil is right that Add/Remove Programs works to uninstall the most recent versions of the Folio Producer tools. If you have a much older version (such as v12 or v13), you need to uninstall InDesign CS5.5 to remove the Folio Producer tools.
