Font issue in Acrobat 8

We have been having problems with .eps files placed in Quark and exported to a pdf. In Acrobat 7 standard the fonts from the .eps file gets garbled when read on the PC. Use local fonts seems to cure this problem, but I took the pdf file and opened it in Acrobat 8 and got this message. "Cannot extract the embedded font 'XYSNP+Trajan-Regular'. Some characters may not display or print correctly." Now all the surrounding text in Trajan that was input from Quark 6.5 changes to a different font when printed. Would switching to an Opentype version of the font solve this problem?
Thanks

I have been having the same sort of problem but with Illustrator CS3, Photoshop CS3, InDesign CS2, and Acrobat 8 Professional. I am the only Mac in the building (brand new system), everyone else is on PC. I am only getting the font issue with the Optima family. The school I work for purchased the font as a PostScript Type 1 outline font. We were guessing that I might be having issues because I am on a Mac.
When working in InDesign, I have to print off most of my pieces on an inkjet printer, if I try to print to a xerox laser, Indesign crashes or pops up with an error "There is a problem with the font Optima." I have been using both methods for creating a pdf in indesign:exporting to and printing as.
If I use the optima font in Illustrator I get a "can't print the illustration. There's a bad font used in the system" error.
When I create PDF's through Indesign, the PDF turns out fine on-screen, but the error message pops up "Cannot extract the embedded font 'XQFZSM+Optima'. Some characters may not display or print correctly."
When I try to print the PDF out on either a laser or inkjet printer, the optima font has a lot of missing letters or is replaced by a different font.
This has been very frustrating. The weird thing is that it doesnt happen with all projects that use the optima font. I have done some very small projects (envelopes, postcards) and have either had an issue or no issue at all with optima; and Ive worked on larger projects (magazines, newsletters) and have almost always-from what I can remember-had a problem.
Is this something that I can fix with program settings? Or would a Mac compatible font be the solution?
Thanks

  • Font Issue in Acrobat 9 pro and X pro

Fonts are not displaying properly after selecting the text with Touc-up tool in Acrobat 9 pro and X pro how to solve this issue?

When Acrobat X installs it will remove an Acrobat 9 install.
Suggest you Deactivate then uninstall Acrobat 9 before installing Acrobat X.
May want to root about to locate that Acrobat 9 CD first.
As the preponderance of resources in Adobe's "Education" space deal with use of Acrobat X you may be better off in the long run by working out of and learning "X".

  • Font Issue in Acrobat XI

I have been editting a PDF document to add references and notes within it.  I am using Acrobat XI on a Windows 7 machine.  As I scroll back through the document I am finding any text I have entered has somehow "magically" turned from text characters to symbols - specifcally they are all now a box with an "X" in it. All other text that existed previously has not been converted to symbols.
When I copy and paste the symbols from the PDF document I am editting into Notepad, the symbols are once again normal text characters.  Is this then an issue with the default font (Minion Pro)?  If so, how does one go about changing the default font to one that already exists in Windows - perhaps Calibri or Times New Roman?

What you are actually looking at is the text edit feature which is admittedly not all that robust in terms of how it provides access to fonts.
If you are trying to check the actual font usage for particular text, you should go to Output Preview and change the Preview mode from Separations to Object Inspector. Click on the text you wish to examine and this tools will show you exactly which font is being used to render the text with the full font name, point size, etc.

  • Font Issues in Acrobat X pro

    Hi All,
A couple of months ago we have upgraded our Acrobat applications to 9 pro and X pro before that we had used Acrobat 7&8 which is having no problem. Since we upgraded to higher versions we have been facing so many font related issues/complaints. Particularly while using TouchUp tool in pdf document so many font error messages are appeared, In some case followed that error alerts some text/character styles has changed (for example text/characters has changed from uppercase style to lower case style). And the compare documents reports also not capturing the changes/modifications exactly as Acrobat 7&8 did. Can you please give us a good suggestion regarding these issues because these issues been big headaches to us. Also please let us know the very latest versions of Acrobat will resolve this issues?
I am expecting your valuable help/support, Please let me know you need any other inputs or clarification on this?
    Thanks!

Are the fonts embedded? If so, are they subset or the full font? Are the fonts on your system?
It may be that you have updated Acrobat at the same time as other software. Note that MS changed the default font that they use in OFFICE and this may be part of the issue. Maybe these questions will at least give you a starting point for finding the problem. Also, you should be sure to update the new versions and not settle for simply the -.0 versions.

  • Font Issue in Acrobat

Whenever I create a pdf or ps file from InDesign and try to later open it in Acrobat to try and edit the file, it at first lets me edit the file, but when I go to save the file, it tells me that the font could not be embedded because the font stored on the page and the system font are encoded differently. Someone PLEASE help. Thanks!

Besides hoping the font was fully embedded and not subsetted in Acrobat
5 (the last issue prior to the forced change in font behaviour) - your
options are limited. You will have more success with the Pitstop API but
    still not perfect results.
Pitstop is great for missing system fonts and can use a global change,
PDF profile and action list to search for unembedded fonts and then
    embeded accordingly.
Certain fonts are transcoded as such into another format e.g. opentype
fonts are converted to the type 1 or truetype format when distilled with
pdf version 1.6 and below (and you have to manually select Opentype to
have the format retained) - even the PDF export from InDesign still does
    not support opentype retention.
Besides better pdf generation education (in my previous life) sometimes
the pieces don't always fint back together ...

  • Fonts issue with Acrobat Reader 9

We have recently pushed Acrobat Reader 9 in our environment on Windows XP Pro. One of user reported a strange issue, he is opening a PDF file in Acrobat Reader 9 but he is getting half fonts all across the document but if we are opening the same file in Reader 7 we can see complete fonts, also at the same time if we copy and paste them in MS Word or notepad we are getting complete fonts. I have observed that in Reader 9 one option is missing that we have in Reader 7 i.e, "use local fonts" under Documents menu, but not sure if this is the reason behind the issue.
    Please refer to attached screenshot.
    Please help/suggest.
    Thanks in advance

The option 'use local fonts' is available in Adobe Reader 9.

  • Acrobat 7 Pro - Comment Summary Font Issue

We have a situation involving font usage in comments in Acrobat 7 Pro that I hope someone can shed some light on. It will be some time before we can move to version 8 or 9, so the problem is important to us.
Here's the symptom, then I have a few basic background questions. The text in a Note comment includes a 'less than or equal to' symbol which appears correctly. The problem comes when the comments are summarized to a PDF file or printed. The 'equal to' portion has now disappeared! I first thought that this might be a font issue, but now am unsure.
    My basic questions are:
What font is Acrobat using when a comment is created? I realize that you can set a preference for which font to use when viewing comments, but apparently not when creating them?
When a comment summary is created to a PDF file, what determines which font is used in the summary? We have seen cases where the resulting PDF has used Arial or Tahoma or SimSun or.........
We have had at least one situation where opening the same Acrobat 7 PDF in Acrobat 8 Pro did not exhibit the problem when summarized there. Was this a known issue that was repaired in Acrobat 8?
Thanks much for any information you can provide.

    Hi David,
This is a known issue with Acrobat on Mac.
Please follow the steps mentioned in the KB : http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/blank-eula-screen-appears-acrobat.html

  • Font name issue in Acrobat XI pro

    Hi All
While checking the PDF font properties in Acrobat XI it only shows the font family name. Not the full name. In Acrobat X it was perfect. Kindly refer the image below marked in Red. The Actual font name is "Agenda Light Extra Condensed Italic", but the property box shows only Agenda and Italic is hi-lighted. The document font properties shows the correct name. Have any one experienced these kind of issues? Seeing the full font name is very important to me since I am in the position of QC process before print.
    Your suggestions are most welcome.
    Thanks in advance

  • Font issue in exported PDF from indesign

Font issue in exported PDF from indesign:
In Indesign file we have kept a sentence in “Univers LT Std” (San serif font) with all caps style that was orginally in lower case. Refer below
When we selected the sentence in exported PDF some of the characters are not selected. Refer below.
If we enable “create tagged PDF“ in export PDF setting, then the problem is solved. Refer below.
Can you please check why this problem happened? In another project also we have faced this same problem but different font “Frutiger LT Std” with all caps style. Here also same San serif font. Please check and advise to solve this issue permanently.

Without tags a PDF is a silly amount of letters, images and lines, with tags all itams a kept in their semantic context. So work with tags as it is the only way to get correct selections and export to other file types like Word DOCX.
Without tags InDesign reads from left to right from top to bottom and the font geometry might influence the correct order of letters.
Why should anyone work without tags today? If you open a tagged PDF in Acrobat DC it is much faster than without tags.

  • Adobe Pro 8.0 Mac to Windows Font Issue

Here is my dilemma: We have a fillable form created in Acrobat Pro 8.0 on a Mac. It is sent to a Windows Vista (Acrobat Reader) user who then fills it, saves it and sends it to a Windows XP user (again using reader). When the XP user opens it, the characters are all changed to dots. If it is sent to another Vista user, it is fine. To me, it sounds like a font issue. Can someone give me some insight on how we might go about fixing the issue? Thanks.

How do I check to see where the fonts are embeded? Originally the form was created in MAC InDesign then imported into Acrobat to insert the fillable fields. Our grpahics person is not sure where to check the settings in Acrobat. Thanks again.

  • Photoshop CC 2014 font issues

I'm Not entirely sure why this is happening, or what's causing it, but photoshop cc 2014 is causing some serious issues with fonts on my documents. Up until this point my company has used Extensis Suitcase Fusion to activate fonts used throughout our project docs. The 2014 typekit update and addition is somehow conflicting with either photoshop or suitcase and in return setting a large portion of my fonts to it's default or regular weight. It seems like while suitcase is auto activating the necessary fonts, typekit is reading each of those weights as their own individual fonts. This might seem difficult to understand but in any case i would just like to know if there is a way to completely deactivate typekit and or remove it's involvement in my project documents, at this point it is resetting dozens of fonts on some very important project files. I'd much rather not be limited to just the fonts that adobe or typekit prefers.

    I still don’t have a clue…

  • How do I edit font size in acrobat 8?

I am trying to make edits to the font and font size in acrobat 8. I have clicked on the text toolbar under advanced editing and selected my text. All of the forums I have read say to right click on that text and select "properties." When I right click, my acrobat does NOT give me the option for properties. The closest option is "text style" which does not give me any font or font size options - only bold, underline, etc. Can anyone assist me in where I ca find these options or why it is not giving me the "properties" option?

Select the text and type ctrl-e

  • Performance Issues with Acrobat Reader 11.0.0.2 when secure mode is enabled

    Hello All,
We are experiencing sporadic issues with Acrobat 11.0.0.2 across our domain, users are reporting performance issues when opening PDF documents whether locally or from a network share.
We have found that turning off Secure Mode helps towards reducing this delay and in the cases it doesn't we are repairing the installation and/or reinstalling the application.
Due to the security implications we need to leave this turned on, I am wondering if anyone has encountered this issue and what steps were taken towards resolving it?
I also wonder whether the white list function in the new release 11.0.0.3 would be a solution to this issue?
    Kind Regards,
    Ryan McCarty

    No probelm, so....
We had no problems with Adobe Reader 9 and 10, we encountered the issues when upgrading to 11.0.0.2.
Initially we found that turning off the Protected Mode, helped but did not resolve the issue.
    We tried;
    1. Turn off protected mode - issue still present
    2. Clearing the recent file registry using the below registry path and deleting the keys underneath it.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\AVGeneral\cRecentFiles (this does not turn recent files off permanently). - works but needs clearing regularly
    3. Turning off welcome screen by creating -  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\FeatureLockDown\cWelcomeScreen - works to improve app open speed.
    4. uninstall/reinstall of 11.0.0.2 - works most likley due to the recent files being cleared.
    5. upgrade to 11.0.0.3 - issue still present
Following reboots the issue is still present.
When Adobe Reader is the only application open this issue is still present.
As mentioned I have no systems available which I could test this issue using 11.0.0.1 as we have fixed them, albeit temporarily using the reinstall method.
I am concious that this issue is going to reoccur once that cache (recent files) builds back up because the fix above (#2) is clearing the recent files cache NOT disabling it.

  • PDF Format Oracle Reports font issue

My process is generating the batch oracle Reports.
    Their key map is:
    Key1: %* server=server1 userid=xxxs/xxx@xxxx report=D:\sample.rdf destype=file desformat=PDF
My process is calling IAS server to generate report. IAS ser is generating and saving the report in the specified location.Reports are running on the server locally and DESTYPE=FILE. So the Oracle Reports output is saved on the server itself. Whenever i open the report on my machine/server i have font issue. Some of the reports has very tiny font. It seems the reports generated by using oracle reports which is Arial Unicode font type is causing the problem. If any reports other then Arial Unicode font like Arial Westrn, those reports are fine. We have 1000s of reports. So we don't want to change each report font type. For me it seems the issue is with the font on the server. Is there anyway to ask App server use Arial Westrn if Arial Unicode not found. How to make these configuration changes in the server. Any suggestions please.

Maybe this helps or at least points you in some direction ...
Have a look at font aliasing when configuring Application Server : http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_19/bi.1012/b14048/pbr_font.htm#i1006140
If your Application Server is located on Windows I would suggest to install the fonts there.
In Unix, this a more complex task.
