Font size when printing from Safari to HP Photosmart 6520 printer

I just bought a Macbook Pro 13 inch, running OSX 10.9.5.  When I try to print something from within a Safari web page to my HP PhotoSmart 6520 printer, the font is huge. Does anyone know how to adjust the font size for use with Safari. The font size seems to be ok when I print from Pages, for example. So I m thinking the issue may be limited to printing from Safari.

No one has replied yet and HP has never played well with Apple, so the best I can do right now is to point out a site that has proven very helpful to many users wanting or needing to read up on color management and printing:

  • Cannot print from Safari Textedit Preview on Dell Printer

After installing 10.6.1 I cannot print anymore from Safari, Textedit, and Preview on my Dell DN1700 USB laser printer (running on the 'generic postscript' printer driver). It seems that I can print from other software (iWorks, MS Office etc...). When trying to print from the three programs, I get the printer window, but after clicking 'print' it does not print, but all pull down menus on the print window go blank, and the cancel button does not work either (i.e. the only way out is to quit the program with ctrl-Q. Any workarounds? Thanks!

It is good not to be alone...;-). I also noticed some more, possibly related, problems: When using the quick view feature in mail to look at attachments, I cannot quickview Microsoft docs anymore. The screen just shows the "wait symbol" (the rotating flower pattern or whatever one may call it) and nothing happens ad infinitum. PDF still works.
With regard to the printer issue I noticed that when I go home and hook the computer up to a HP printer over ethernet, the issue goes away. Out of a sudden I can print from safari/mail/textedit/preview. Back at work, as soon as the computer notices the presence of the Dell printer, the problem is back on.

  • Printing from Safari results in very light prints

Recently, every time I print from Safari (like a purchase confirmation or an airline ticket confirmation) the output is very light, almost unreadable, but printing from a Word document results in a normal print. My printer is an Epson R340 connected to my Mac Pro via an Airport Base Station. Any suggestions for a fix?

Your printer settings for Safari should be in the Print dialog, and I believe the one you want to check is ColorSync > Quartz Filter > Lightness Decrease to see if that makes your prints better.
Is your profile correct in saying that you're running 10.3.x and Safari 1.3.2? If not, you should update it with the specific point-version of OS X you have running, and the exact version of Safari.

  • Why does Dynamic Type change to a fixed font size when copied from one Note to another Note in the Apple Notes App?

If I copy and paste text from one note to another, it pastes in at the current Dynamic Type size but is no longer adjustable. I have tons of notes with various fixed size text. Is there a way to reset all the text in the Apple Notes App to Dynamic Type so they can be adjusted using the font size slider in settings?

When you use IMAP, as opposed to "On my Mac," Notes will create a folder called "Notes" on the mail server.  It will then store notes in there.  If you create subfolders in Notes (which you can do), those will be stored as subfolders of Notes on the server.
So in the case of Gmail, you should be able to log onto your Gmail web account and the notes should probably show up in "All my Mail" with a label of Notes (this is because Gmail's IMAP implementation is VERY nonstandard and it doesn't actually support folders; it uses labels instead).  If you view the Notes label in Gmail's web interface you should see all your notes.
Because of Gmail's IMAP implementation you should be very careful not to remove the "Notes" label from any of your notes if you're in the web interface, or they will disappear from the Notes app on OS X itself.

  • Printing from CS5 to HP Photosmart c310a printer

I recently purchased an HP Photosmart C310a printer and am having trouble printing.  When I print from photoshop I get completely horribly different colors represented from what i see on the screen.  I have set up the color management as best as i can (setting everything up in adobe rgb or sRGB, putting in the correct photo paper, and best quality levels, in the settings).  I have tried both letting photoshop manage the colors or letting my printer do it without much difference (although i haven't figured out if/how to turn off the printer driver management of the colors when i have photoshop managing the colors).  Does it matter if i send 16bit info vs. 8 bit?  Should i print from the RAW cr2 file or make a TIFF (I have tried both without difference in the print.).  Any other important settings to keep in mind?
When i have printed from iphoto, the colors are managed perfectly, but weird horizontal bands come with the print.
When printing a diagnostic test on the printer, everything comes out perfectly and cartridges are all full of ink, so I am pretty certain this is based on a software/color management issue.
    Am I missing something?

One suggestion worked from the Firefox prints incorrectly link mentioned above by mha007. I'm thrilled since this has been annoying me for weeks. Thanks mha007!
    Reset all Firefox printer settings
    # Open your profile folder:
    # On the menu bar, click on the Help menu and select Troubleshooting Information. The Troubleshooting Information tab will open.
    # Under the Application Basics section, click on Show in Finder. A window with your profile folder will open.
    # Note: If you are unable to open or use Firefox, follow the instructions in Finding your profile without opening Firefox.
    # On the menu bar, click on the Firefox menu and select Quit Firefox.
    # In your profile folder, copy the prefs.js file to another folder to make a backup of it.
    # Open the original prefs.js file in a text editor (such as TextEdit).
    # Remove all lines in prefs.js that start with print. and save the file.
    # If something goes wrong when you open Firefox, close it again and overwrite prefs.js with the backup you made.

    Hi.
I'm using a simple report (Write) and when I want to print it, because of the LINE-SIZE and LINE-COUNT appears in a landscape orientation, but when I changed these parameters appears in a portrait orientation, but the problem is that font size becomes bigger.
How can I do to avoid becomes big the font-size, or if i can change the font size directly in code.
    Thanks

You can check the print scale: File > Page Setup > "Format & Options": Scale (unselect: "Shrink to fit page width")

  • Blank pages when printing from Safari

    Hi,
I have a brand new iMac running Leopard which is connected via USB to an older HP All-in-one (PSC 2210). The only driver available is from Leopard (none is available on hp.com)
I can print documents (Word, Entourage, etc.) just fine. When I try to print from Safari (any website) it prints 5 blank pages, then part of the website, another blank page, a bit more of the site.
Below is the email from HP.
    How can I fix this?
    Thanks,
    Bruce
    Hello Bruce,
Thank you for contacting HP Total Care.
There are no full feature drivers available for the Macintosh OS 10.5 that is compatible with the
PSC 2210 The engineers will not be creating any full feature drivers for the PSC 2210 due to the age of the printer. You should have print functionality because of the built in drivers, but
you will not have scanning functionality.
Printing from a Web browser, a software program used to access the Internet, is often problematic since most Web pages are designed to be viewed rather than printed. Getting a successful printout depends on the way the page was constructed and the settings within the Web browser. In most cases, these problems have nothing to do with the printer itself.
Open the web browser you wish to print from. Click on File, top menu bar, and select Page Setup. Make sure the PSC 2200 series is selected as the default printer in Format For. Click Print.
If you do not have a Page Setup when you click on File, then just select Print. Make sure the PSC 2200 series is selected as the default printer. Click Print.
If you are still having the same issue, bring up the document you wish to print. Click on Edit, top menu bar, and select Select All. Click on Edit again and select Copy. Open the Hard Drive/Applications/TextEdit.
Click on Edit and select Paste. This should copy and paste the document into TextEdit. Click on File and select Print.
If you are still having an issue, you will have to contact Apple for further assistance. The only other option HP can give you is an upgrade option.

I was asking the question to test whether or not it is the website, not as a workaround necessarily.

  • Prints from Safari Reader crops edges

    Hello,
printing from Safari Reader to PDF or paper results in cropped edges, meaning that text is being cut off (not printed) on all sides. The preview in Reader looks fine. Changing margins manually in the printer's dialog is being overriden and so is changing the output size to e.g. 90 percent. Happens with 2 different printers.
The printer's manufacturer tells us it's an Apple problem. Seems kind of a flaw if you build in a reader function only to have text cut off as a result…
Any hints on how to correct this are warmly appreciated!

I use Reader a lot and find it extremely useful, especially when it comes to technical tips on Mac World and other web sites. Being able to read the core article without all the surrounding fluff is really excellent. but I too suffer from the same printing problem. There's nothing wrong with my printer and its settings as all other applications are handled perfectly. The problem seems to be any proper handling of margins in Reader. The printout starts at the very top of the page and goes to the very bottom with no margins. Often lines are cut off halfway through, with the rest of the line appearing at the top of the next page. Maybe Apple did not expect anyone to print articles in Reader, seeing it just as an on-screen viewing facility, but technical articles often need printing out because they can't be used right there and then. Does anyone else think this is an Apple problem, because I'm convinced my printer is just fine?

  • When printing from an online PDF, the page prints in extra large scale. How do I fix this?

when printing from an online PDF, the page prints in extra large scale. How do I fix this?

This can happen when Firefox has misread the paper size from the information supplied by Windows. Clearing it can involve finding some obscure settings, but here goes:
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''print''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) For each setting for the problem printer, right-click and Reset it. The fastest way is to right-click with the mouse and then press the r key on the keyboard with your other hand.
Note: In a couple other threads involving Brother printers, the preference '''printer_printer_name.print_paper_data''' was set to 256 and when the user edited it to 1 that fixed the paper size problem. If you see a 256 there, you can edit the value by doubling-clicking it or using right-click>Modify.

  • Has anyone resolved the printing from Safari with borders issue??

I go to print from Safari and it won't let me set a border, it always prints right up to and over the left hand edge even when set at less than 100%!!
    Can this be corrected??

So it sounds like you're starting with Safari's "Print" command, only there is no printer!  I understand you're trying to end up with PDF, and that this worked for you in the past.
Here's an alternate approach to accomplish what you're trying to do: Take a screen shot.
You can either press Shift Command 3 to take a shot of your entire screen, or Shift Command 4 to take a partial screen shot (scroll the crosshairs over the rectangular region).
The resulting shot will end up on your desktop.

  • Printing from safari crashes safari every time

when I try to print from Safari it crashes on me. Every time without fail. I press command-p, or go file down to print, and safari freezes – often leaving a white space where the page was. The only way out is to force-quit. I'm using Safari version 5.0.5 (6533.21.1) now, but this has been happening for some time on my MacPro (OSX 10.6.7, 2.66ghz quad-core intel xeon, 16gb 1066mhz DDR3 RAM, 4x1.5tb internal HDs, 1x 1tb external HD).

Try reinstalling Safari, or saving the page as a PDF and print from the Preview-app.
