FontBook - where does it store font informations?

As I've posted here before, I've been massively frustrated by Leopard's FontBook over and over again... so much so that this afternoon's longish post was deleted by the modgods here (they say "Your post was removed from Apple Discussions as it contained feedback or feature requests" when they mean "You used foul language to describe Apple products"
Anyway, I've now installed Leopard on an external disk with one, and one purpose only: to get exactly the font files that are part of OS X 10.5.
Having done that, I
- deleted everything in /Library/Fonts
- copied all the original Apple system fonts from the external disk
- changed owner group and access data for each font resource to be exactly like the virgin 10.5
- deleted the FontBook pref file in ~/Library/Preferences
- deleted all ATS cache files
- rebooted
Now when I open FontBook, (of course) it still displays all sorts of fonts from before this open-heart surgery operation.
So my questions are:
- where does FontBook store its font informations?
- how does one clear, delete, wipe out, nuke or kill these informations... whatever is necessary to not have Zombie font descriptions lurking in FontBook?
TIA if anyone has an answer to enlighten this murky swamp!

Maybe this is interesting to someone: after my 6th or so cold reboot this morning, and Spotlight having started its ritualistic "Indexing" my external FW harddrives (for the 6th time in 3 days...), my Console is filled with hundreds of this:
23.11.07 02:34:35 com.apple.ATSServer[940] 2007.11.23 02:34:35.85
23.11.07 02:34:35 com.apple.ATSServer[940] A fatal error was detected using fontiD 131127 while processing a message (id: 11) from pid=425.
23.11.07 02:34:35 com.apple.ATSServer[940] Font Info:
23.11.07 02:34:35 com.apple.ATSServer[940] In-memory font for ATS owner 311 -> pid 425.
23.11.07 02:34:35 com.apple.ATSServer[940] FontObject 0x2debd0; ID 131127 ( 0x20037: gen: 2; index: 55 )
23.11.07 02:34:35 com.apple.ATSServer[940] Name:
23.11.07 02:34:35 com.apple.ATSServer[940] No name in cache
23.11.07 02:34:35 com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.ATSServer) Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds
23.11.07 02:34:45 com.apple.ATSServer[941] FODBError: FODBRemoveFromAnnex - Got called to remove an annexIndex that does not match what is in the font
23.11.07 02:34:45 com.apple.ATSServer[941] ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Now ATSserver is throttling and re-spawning, seemingly forever.
Since this OS experience can't possibly get much worse -- I guess even Windows would be better at this point -- I'll go and delete all ATS caches (again) as well as FontBook's cache files, and reboot (again).
Oh joy.

  • Where does iweb store its gallery information?

In which file does iWeb store the information which allows it to construct a gallery page?
I have a site with a Gallery page, which I publish to a local folder, then upload to an ftp server for a live website (www.ayrmodelboatclub.org)
When I update the gallery by adding a new gallery page, iWeb updates the initial gallery menu page showing the little photobooks of all my galleries.
If I publish to a local folder, I can go to the gallery and double-click gallery.html which then displays the page correctly in my browser. If I upload the Gallery folder to the site, then go to the site and choose Gallery, it goes to an older version of the page. I can't see how that is possible, but I figured it must be because I have not updated a file which tells iWeb which gallery thumbnails to display on the page (or perhpas the number of thumbnails to display).
    I can't find that file.
I have tried updating Gallery.html an streamloader.html and Scripts and the Media folder.
I have also tried uploading the whole Gallery folder again (an again, and again) but can't get it to update.
I have had this problem time and again, on more than one site.
    What am I doing wrong?
If I set iWeb to update the site directly, it creates a folder within the site, called AMBC (the name of the site within iWeb) and that functions perfectly, but because it is a folder within the main site directory, it adds AMBC to the addresses, so anyone who has bookmarked the pages can't see then because the address has changed.
If I delete all the files on the server, except the functioning AMBC folder, then take everything out of the AMBC folder and put it at the top level, that fixes the addresses, but the old version of the Gallery now displays instead. I think it may not be the old version, but may be simply the wrong number of thumbnails that are being displayed and iWeb is reding one too few thumbnails. But where is that information stored?
I'd appreciate any help with this. It's driving me daft.

I just went through this with a GoDaddy site. I think I am on the track to the answer, since the site is now working correctly. There are a couple of areas where failure to update occurs that I have found so far. iWeb saves all it data in a single file called domain. It has a default location but you can move it and have several 'domain' files for separate sites. Iweb will default to the last used domain file. Just double click on the one you want to use.
    The main concept:
On your computer the file can be loaded properly, but on the web it is wrong. Remember, that when the HTML is written out by iWeb, it creates a name_files folder and puts stuff in there. The name_files may be in a different relative location from its location on your computer.
In iWeb you set up the location of your site to publish to. Remember that it creates the site each time, so you actually select the location above your 'Name' site in the hierarchy, which is often 'Sites' on a Mac. So don't choose 'Name' as your location, chose 'Sites.' The links will work within the 'Name' location but will not work if a link strays outside that location after you publish it. If you publish to 'Name' then your new site will be 'Name' inside your already published 'Name' site. When you look at the site you may not realize that although you can see the new file in a location similar to the location on your Mac, the file that is linked to by your published page will be the one inside the Name_files folder on the top level of your host site, not inside a folder which is inside a folder....
If you FTP, then in iWeb, choose publish entire site rather than publish changes, and drag the entire site to the upload window of your FTP client, and replace all the old files. If you don't want to do that, then if you are using an FTP client such as Transmit, you can actually rename the old files on the server and keep them as backups. You can also drag files around on the server directly, but you will break any links to them in any old pages that are not updated.
Probably something I explained is wrong, but my GoDaddy site is updating properly anyway. :-D At first I was copying the corrections into every name_files folder on the GoDaddy site, until I realized that iWeb would do that for me properly if I published everything and replaced everything.
Sorry I am confused about this myself!

  • Where does OEM store information about SOA composite instances

    Hi All,
I am posting this query the third time here. I really and urgently need information on where this OEM 12c Cloud Control stores the information about the SOA composite instances like.. if the instances is completed, running, faulted, terminated in the management repository or it does not store these information at all. But then from where it fetches the information on faulted instances which it shows on a SOA composite home page in OEM console.
I really need some concepts on this.

  • Where does MAX store channel config such as names, input type, and scalers

Where does MAX store the channel configuration such as the channel names, input type (volts, current, etc), and scaling info?
Unfortunately, our hard drive failed and our Labview back up folder didn't include the MAX channel description/configuration.  Our hard drive is currently at a data recovery service and it would be much simpler if we could recover the file instead of re-creating all the channels within MAX.  Any help to find the actual location and file name/s would be greatly appreciated.
We are currently using Labview 7.1 on an XP platform that is now freshly installed.  Once I complete the install, I plan on making a ghost image of the drive to prevent this from every happening again
    Thanks

Where does Messages store attachments on the iPad?
some photos are quite large, so it would be good to know where they go, and how to manage the app.... ;)

Managing memory usage is not possible because the user does not have access to the file structure (unless you have jail broken your iPad that is).

  • Where does EBS store customized LOV elements?

    Dear All,
We are developing a report on EBS r12 >> Payables >> Payments screen.
The Functional Consultants Team added a DFF ( view_inv_pay.DESC_FLEX ) with only 1 segment and its description at the Invoice Payment block level ( VIEW_INV_PAY )
which synchronizes with each matched row in this block.
The values of the DFF come by selecting from an attached customized List of value that the Functional Consultants Team had populated its elements using data loader.
We have a requirement to display the DESCRIPTION of DFF segment in the report not its actual value.
    So the question is:
Where does EBS store the data related to a customized LOV ?
And how to join between the LOV’s under laying tables and the below report tables
    ( AP_CHECKS_ALL AC , HZ_PARTIES HZP , AP_SUPPLIERS PV , GL_DAILY_CONVERSION_TYPES GDCT , AP_INVOICE_PAYMENTS_ALL  AIP , AP_INVOICES_ALL AI ) to display the DFF description?
Since, only the actual DFF values are stored in AP_INVOICE_PAYMENTS_ALL table.

    Dear Sandeep,
That is great, but what about the joining condition.
I know that i can join by the segment value in the AP_INVOICE_PAYMENTS_ALL table
    to be like below:
    SELECT ffv.flex_value, ffv.description
    FROM fnd_flex_values_vl ffv, fnd_flex_value_sets ffvs , AP_INVOICE_PAYMENTS_ALL API
    WHERE ffvs.flex_value_set_id = ffv.flex_value_set_id
and API.SEGMENT1 = FFV.FLEX_VALUE ;   -- Assuming that the actual DFF value stored in SEGMENT1
AND ffvs.flex_value_set_name LIKE '&value_set' But for tuning issues is there any an alternative to previous condition?

  • Where does Keynote store the audio files in a presentation

I have slides with individual audio files. When I import or attach the file and then save the presentation, it changes the file name to .mov extension. Where does Keynote store those files? I would like to edit the saved Keynote version, but cannot locate the .mov file!

I'm not exactly sure of what you want to do, and I'm not sure if my answer is the most efficient, or even wholly correct, but here goes ...
When you save a KN presentation (a KN doc) which includes an audio (or movie) file, you can save it 2 (3?) ways: either without or with the file being copied into the document, or as a "package". In a test file I just made with 3 white slides (title, slide with song, second slide with song) the results:
without: 3.8 MB; with: 9.4 MB; package: 9.4 MB. The essential difference, aside from size, is that if saved without, if you play the KN on another machine which doesn't have those audio files on it, the audio won't be there. To make the KN truly portable, you must save with, or as a package. (I'm not too sure of the concept of package in KN. In PP, saving as a package means you end up with a folder, which contains the PP and the media files, each as separate entities. Saving a KN package yields not a folder but a file, which looks to me identical to the result achieved by simply saving with, and seems to behave identically, as well.) The audio file you used will in any case remain where it was before you used it, but, if the KN doc is saved with, or as a package, a copy of it will go into the KN doc.
But then, what do you mean by "edit"? What do you want to edit, the KN presentation, or the audio file within it? If the former, I don't understand where the problem might be. If the latter: using the QT inspector within KN, you can change the length of the audio file (where in the song it starts and stops), whether to start it on click, or automatically after transition, or to loop it. If you wanted to do some other, more exotic audio editing, like reverbs or other effects, I'd do that on (a copy of) the original audio file (found wherever it was before) with another app (GarageBand, for instance), and then I'd replace the first, non-edited, version of the audio file in the KN doc with that.
    Have I missed something?
Message edited by gbdoc: maybe someone will chime in to clarify the difference between "saved with" and a "package"

  • Where Does Lightroom Store  Catalogs, Previews, and Backups?

    1.   By default, where does LR store:
    a. Catalogs (.lrcat)
    b. Previews (.lrdata)
    c. Backups of Catalogs and Previews
    2.  Can these locations be changed?
2a. If so, how does one specify where LR will store each of the above?
    3. Is there a specific relationship of location the Catalog, the Preview, and the Backups, or any partial combination of those three,  must remain in?
    3a. If so, what is/are that/those relationships?

    a) By default in the Lightroom folder within My Pictures / Pictures
    b) Always in the same folder as the catalogue
    c) Wherever you tell it - which should be somewhere different. No backup of Previews.
Re 2, just move the catalogue in Explorer / Finder, double click it. If you didn't move the Previews, LR starts a new one in the same folder as the catalogue, following (b) above.
Re 3, answered above. Backups can / should be elsewhere and it's your choice where.
Notice that in Catalog Settings there's a Show button that reveals where your catalogue is.

  • Where does iPhone store contacts?

    Hello,
I will be in a different country for a few days and I will buy a SIM card from a different operator over there.
Where does iPhone store contacts? Will my contacts stay on the phone with the new SIM card?
    Thank you.

Contacts are stored on the device. The iPhone does not store contacts on the SIM. Make sure you have been backing up the device and syncing your contacts with a supported application on the computer or iCloud or other cloud service. Changing the SIM will not affect your contacts.

  • TS4036 where does icloud store my mac osx recovery key?

where does icloud store my mac osx recovery key for file vault?

Note that you have to have specifically chosen to store the key with Apple at the time you created the FileVault encryption, and chosen security questions so that you can identify yourself when you come to retrieve it. If you did not store it with Apple in this way and do not have a record of it elsewhere then you cannot proceed. All this has nothing to do with iCloud and the process is not automatic.

  • Where does Leopard store my Identity info?

Thanks, Baltwo. Any idea where I can edit the zip code that the system defaults to (which is no longer correct)? A couple of websites use my zip code to customize my visits. I can't find my zip code in anything related to Safari. I know I entered one when I first set-up the computer. Where can I find that stuff?

  • Where does TREX store data?

    Hi all,
Sorry if my question is stupid, but I didn't find any document writes about database of TREX. So where does TREX store data?

    Hi,
TREX creates an index from documents in a document set. An index is a collection of selected terms that represent the content of the documents indexed. To produce this, TREX indexes the original data and stores the index generated. TREX is therefore a secondary data store.
The data that the TREX queue server (queues) and the TREX index server and its search engines (search index, text-mining index, and attribute-engine index) access is not stored in a database. It is stored unencrypted in the file system as flat files in the file system. You protect the TREX files and indexes located in your file system by configuring the security of your file system. You can find details on this in the security documentation for your operating system.
