Fonts for comercial use?

Hello!
I would like to ask if the fonts on iBooks Author are available for not-personal, not-private use without involving any extra costs. That is why its called a book, right? Because you share it with others.
uses: from books to fairytails to comic to whatever
Thanks in advance ,
Fotinos

these fonts come with iBooks Author, no?
The fonts belong to the OS, not the app.  Here is the OS passage:
E. Fonts. Subject to the terms and conditions of this License, you may use the fonts included with the Apple Software to display and print content while running the Apple Software; however, you may only embed fonts in content if that is permitted by the embedding restrictions accompanying the font in question. These embedding restrictions can be found in the Font Book/Preview/Show Font Info panel.
Does that answer your question?  (iBooks Author cannot embed fonts, except via export to PDF format)

Is it possible to use Apple's fonts for commercial use?
    Thank you very much.

Here's a look at the font agreement section from OS X Mountain Lion:
    E. Fonts. Subject to the terms and conditions of this License, you may use the fonts included with the Apple Software to display and print content while running the Apple Software; however, you may only embed fonts in content if that is permitted by the embedding restrictions accompanying the font in question. So basically, you need to examine the fonts to see if there are notes on usage restrictions or limitations.

  • Lithos Pro font for commercial use (mobile app)

Hello! I am going to create ios game using Lithos Pro font. Can I use this font in commertial purposes? So should I buy only 1 licence for $35?
    Thank you for the answer.

Hey everyone. A bit more info...
The font displayed is a set of bitmaps created from the TrueType font. No vector definition is included in the executable.
Those bitmap images are used to display static text (ie, the text is displayed as it is in the text database, no text is created during the game). With the sole exception of numbers which are used for counters.
All this said, what do I do? I've tried contacting anyone and everyone at Adobe but no one seems to have an answer for me. The font is to appear in a game and I need to figure out ASAP what I need to do to make sure I'm in the clear legally.
As mentioned in my earlier post, I have a copy of Adobe Creative Suite (which includes Minion Pro). Does having the Suite license mean I can use this font in my video game commercially with the information provided above (in bold) in mind?

  • Is any DBMS totally free for comercial use?

I was told that MySQL was but that's under GPL or 200 euros. Anyway I have already searched the forums but I found lot's of references about free under GPL.
    and is this correct:
(if I have understood correctly, to use software under GPL, you must provide the sourcecode along. This would mean that used with JSP-pages I have to supply the jsp-source also to web-site users?) and pardon me for not reading the massive GPL licence of the kind of english I don't understand.
Well might be a longshot, but is there any...?

I downloaded Interbase/Interclient from the BORLAND
site free of charge. This refers to InterBase from Version 6 up.
And you must really choose the free OpenSourced branch. Borland is selling also a commercial one with regulated support.
There's also another free branch of InterBase called Firebird.

  • How do I purchase Adboe fonts for distribution across a 5000+ user University. Licenses required?

I see Volume Licensing for programmes but not for fonts. Can anyone advise?
    Thanks in advance

    TerriTea-
Our Volume Licening program provides for volume licensing of Font Folio 11.1 only.  You are correct that we don't license individual fonts via this program.
However, we would be happy to quote you on a customized volume license for any specific fonts you want.  Please respond to me directly below, indicating the total number of users, information about your institution, as well as the specific typefaces and weights you have interest in.  I will see that the proper sales people respond to your query.

  • How can I tell if a font is legal or for commercial use?

I am working in Illustrator and I need to create posters with commercial use fonts.
How do I know for sure that the font I am using is legal?  Can Illustrator tell me?
I have experimented with a font I know is commercial and one that I know is not and
while packaging the project Illustrator gave me the same generic message for both.
This is the only message that is gives me.
I work on a Macbook Pro, a colleague of mine works on a PC, when he packages his projects
it will tell him if the font is legal or not.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

The option to package a font file is there to make sure that the one who receives the file will use the same version of the font as you did when you created the file.
The receiver must have his own license of the font, that could be an older version that misses some characters (like the €) and packaging the font file allows him to use your version.
Saving your file as a PDF is a better option if  the receiver does not need to edit the file. The original font is not needed since the characters you have used are embedded in the pdf.
All fonts from the Adobe type library may be embedded in a PDF.
But this has nothing to do with the question if you can use a font for a commercial poster.
Of course you can, if you bought the font license, you can use it in your design, but Illustrator cannot tell you if you bought the font.
In the rare occasion that you are having trouble with embedding the font in a PDF, create outlines.

  • Setting Font for converting multiple text files into PDF using VB 6.0

    Dear All,
    Am converting multiple text files into PDF using VB6.0. Currently, am unable to control the font face and size for the generated files. Below is the procedure am using for each file;
Public Sub proc_convert_to_PDF(srcFilename As String, destFilename As String)

    Set p_VDoc = CreateObject("AcroExch.AVDoc")
    Call p_VDoc.Open(srcFilename, "")

    End Sub
    What I need;
    1) to be able to set the font face of the destination file ( destFilename)
    2) to be able to set the font size of the destination file ( destFilename)
Am using Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Type Library
    Kindly Help.
    Thanks in advance

We didn't say it doesn't work. We said it isn't supported.
There are a number of other ways to make a PDF. The one which would
give the most control is if your application directly printed to GDI,
controlling the font directly. This could print to Adobe PDF.
You could look for an application that gives control of font for
    printing.
You could use a text-to-PostScript system and distill the result. You
    could even look for a non-Adobe text-to-PDF.
Working in the unsupported and dangerous world you chose, the font
size for text conversion is set (and this is very bad design from
Adobe) in the settings for Create PDF > From Web Page. There is no API
    to this.

  • Dashboard is now using Fonts for Safari

Ever since I created a snippet of a Web Page in Dashboard I have had Overlapping Fonts in some of my Widgets. I could not understand why until I found another user had the same problem after creating a snippet of a web page in Dashboard. Apparently Dashboard is using the Fonts for the Safari. Can Anyone help me with this problem? As it is now I can't read some of the material in some of the Widgets as the Fonts are large and overlapping each other.

I solved this myself by deleting the dashboard preferences!

  • Can I use Type -- 'convert to outline' in Illustrator on Typekit fonts I've 'designated for desktop use'? I've not been able to as of yet.

I'm trying to print vinyl letters for a gallery I'm a member of and love the Cronos Pro regular font. i've designated this for desktop use and created 24 name files at 200pt. The person working with the vinyl asked if I could 'convert to outline' possibly to make the font a bit larger, I don't really know. When I tried to do this, I found that choice grayed out on the type menu. I am wondering if this means the Typekit fonts 'designated for desktop use' simply do not have the permission to be 'converted to outline'.

Cutting always requires proper paths/ outlines. This has nothing to do with the font or large format printing per se. Beyond that there should be no limitation in using fonts - as long as you can mangle them in AI, it means that somewhere those outlines exist internal to the program so the type can actually be rendered. Whatever prevents this may more likely be inherent in how you treat your text. you would have to provide more specific info on that. Either way, ask in the AI forum for more detailed answers.

Can I use an adobe open type font for a tee shirt I want to design and sell?

    Hi,
OpenType fonts have many advantages over previous font formats because they contain more glyphs.

You're welcome. Again, as mentioned in that discussion, you can use Font Book to check if the foundry has entered any license limitation notices in the font info (Preview > Show Font Info).
Basically, fonts are code. The copyright applies to the code. If the product you distribute doesn't include the code, then the copyright does not apply to it. That's why embedding has to be dealt with specifically, because embedding fonts in a document means including the code or parts of it in the document.

  • Urxvt - use different fonts for different instances of urxvt

Hello. I use mcabber for IM which is a ncurses program. From what I understand, it is not possible to set font size for a ncurses program. Also urxvt uses .Xresources for configuration which sets the same font for every instance of urxvt.
So I want to ask if it is possible to write a script to start urxvt with a different configuration file and then start mcabber in it.
I understand that I can write a script to change font size in .Xresources and then use xrdb to merge the changes, but I do not understand how I can make that change local for only that instance of urxvt.
    Thanks

    Form man urxvt;
    -fn fontlist
Select the fonts to be used. This is a comma separated list of font names that are checked in order when trying to find glyphs for characters. The first font defines the cell size for characters; other fonts might be smaller, but not (in general) larger. A (hopefully) reasonable default font list is always appended to it. See resource font for more details.
In short, to specify an X11 core font, just specify its name or prefix it with "x:". To specify an XFT-font, you need to prefix it with "xft:", e.g.:
urxvt -fn "xft:Bitstream Vera Sans Mono:pixelsize=15"
urxvt -fn "9x15bold,xft:Bitstream Vera Sans Mono"
I use it all the time.

  • How do I resolve a "'FOND' font association usability" error message? I've upgraded to Yosemite and now I get this message when using Font Book to add fonts I've used for years.

I just updated my MacBook Pro and iMac desktop to Yosemite 10.10.2.
Now I am having font problems. I tried to add fonts I have used for years using FontBook, but it says 'FOND' font association usability and warns me to not use these fonts.
This happens on both my laptop and desktop.
Any idea what to do? I use these fonts (about 12-15 fonts from the Times, Helvetica Neue and Giovanni families) regularly in my work.
