Footer Orientation Question

I am adding a page # footer to a document with Portrait & Landscape pages and I want the footer to appear at the lower right corner of the short side of the page for all pages, regardless of page orientation.  How do I do this?  I'm working in Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard.

Headers and footers will always snap to the page's top and bottom, so if you have a mixture of paper sizes you need to un-rotate the landscape pages in the page navigation panel first, so they all match.

  • Video Orientation Question

    I recorded a video using my iphone in one orientation (portrait style) but when I play it on my computer it plays sideways. Peoples heads point west and their feet point east. How can i get it to play normally on my computer? I now know that in the future I must always record lanscape style but I really want to use one of the videos I've already recorded. Is there any way to salvage it?

    I venture to say your computer is a Windoze PC.
    If so, which video viewing app are you using?
    The video orientation is included with the video's EXIF data, which the Windows video viewer ignores - at least with photos so I assume the same with video.

  • Designing HUGE indesign files. 10 foot by 10 foot banner question

    I am designing something this large for the first time. Its 10 foot by 10 foot and I am using one large photo for it that is about 343M right now and in photoshop form without a background its in the GB range... There must be some way to keep the file size down in a file this large.... what is it?
    Do I just make my photo smaller? Right now I have it the full 10 feet tall? Any ideas appreciated... sure its a simple question for most of you!

    Most large format printers can sacle your file inthe RIP, so working at 1/10 or 1/4 scale should make your life easier in ID. Also, this is no doubt intended for viewing form some distance, so the resolution requirements will be much lower than for a typical arms-length document. See Distance-Resolution Formula

  • Adobe cloud-a shot in the foot no question/issue to resolve - kglad

    I have been a user of Photoshop since CS2. I have purchased Adobe's over priced software over and over again. At one time, there was no other solution. Times have changed and Adobe needs to get involved with changing times. This transition to the "cloud" is in my opinion a ridiculous move and Adobe has shot themselves in the foot . When I buy any  piece of software, I learn it and use it and make the decision if and when I want to purchase full revision upgrades, based on what Adobe or the author offers as an upgrade.  Kind of like buying a car. I imagine this cloud move is to thwart piracy. However, there are many other pieces of software out there now  that are well under $100. Like OnOne Perfect Photo Suite, Corel Paintshop Pro,  Photoshop Elements, Gimp (totally free), and many others. If Adobe would stop trying to sell their single Million Dollar glass of lemonade, and instead sell a million glasses at $1.00, we would all be happy; no piracy, everyone could afford software.
    Please Adobe, rethink this strategy and lower the cost of your software and you would simply sell more. Just like the lemonade .
    Make Photoshop CS6 $99.95 , skip the cloud, and the sales will come.

    I wouldn't think the graphic card would be out of date as it was part of the 2/22/13 PC purchase, however I don't know how to verify it using Windows 7 to be sure if it is or isn't. If it was the graphic's card, wouldn't the other programs, such as Adobe Photoshop Elements 11, the MS Office Suite Programs, etc., on the PC also 'track'?.

  • Page Footer Section Question

    Hi, I have multiple pages in my report and would like to print a message "CONTIUNED" on all pages in the Page Footer section except the last page. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks Jim Dyer

    I am not having any luck doing with this issue, I must not be doing this correctly or not communicatng clearly. I will explain again and see if that helps. I have a main report and a sub-report. The main report calls the sub-report with the same information as the intial report. So, I have 2 pages on first report and 2 pages from the sub report from which both reports are the same. I would like to print the message at the bottom of page 1 & 3 (both the same) "CONTIUNED" and not on pages 2 & 4 since it is the end of the report for both pages. I have tried nuerous times to create formuals, fake groups, etc. with no luck, so I would like to try again to see if this possible. I have used Crystal for a few years, but I am not familar with Shared values, or Fake groups in sub report.

  • Object oriented question

    I am sure my n00bieness is going to shine here but I have a pressing question.
    I have two classes that do a similar activity they attach some elements to an xml document and then call a web service.
    Object A uses in its method signature different object parameters then Object B does.
    For example -
    Object A{
      public ProprietaryObject doMagic(ProprietaryObject po){
        //do stuff
    Object B{
      public DiffProprietaryObject doMagic(DiffProprietaryObject po){
        //do stuff
    }There is more than one method that is similar between the two objects but this is just to get the point across.
    Anyway, Instead of creating two separate objects that do "almost" the same thing (on different object types) how can I create an elegant solution to this?
    The problem I run into is that if I create a common interface for these two object to implement the object use different proprietary objects to do their work.
    I find that I keep using the instanceof operator everywehre to determine the object type.
    Hope this is not explained to horribly...
    Any help is appreciated!

    I'd create an Interface which defines a common access method for the-operations-you-require from both proprietory classes, then implement that interface in a couple of "boundary" classes which "wrap" the proprietory classes...
    If possible, extend the disparate proprietory classes, and delegate to the appropriate methods of the "real" classes.
    If the propritory classes are final then you have to write a ship load more "boilerplate" code... every single fraggin method has to pass the buck to the appropriate method of the private instance of the "wrapped" class, and return the result... which isn't usually too bad once you roll up your sleeves and get into it.
    From memory (mine is poor) this is the essence of the [Adapter pattern|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adapter_pattern].
    Like a said, there may be quit a bit of work involved, but the advantages usually outweigh the costs... You can "refer to" the disparate proprietory classes seemlessly throughout the rest of your system... if ProprietoryClassA changes (in the next release) you can (hopefully) adapt your adapter to those changes, without having to modify all your consumer code... because it still exposes the same interface... which is the motivation for any boundary class ("Trust no one";-)
    Cheers. Keith.

  • Photo orientation question

    I have shown photo slide shows on my television with success -- with one exception. My portrait (vertical) photos are all in landscape (horizontal) mode on my Ipod and television. I loaded photos onto Ipod from Photoshop Elements 3. They are correct orientation in Photoshop. How to make this work on my Ipod? Thanks so much!

    Resizing is a different issue altogether from format.
    It's safe to scale the image in ID regardless of the format. If you look in the info panel with the image selected you'll see two resolution numbers listed, actual and effective. Actual is just the resolution at the dimensions the image was saved and is essentially irrelevant. Effective resolution is what you have at the dimensions you are currently using, and that's the number that counts. If that number is in the range that is acceptable for the type of output you are using, there is no need to resize the image in Photoshop at all.
    If you MUST resize the image, then yes, convert to something besides jpeg if that's what it is to start. And keep in mind that up-sampling won't improve image quality in general, and downsampling more than 20% or so can cause you to lose fine details (but so will scaling down).

  • Orientation question about dps

    I have a dps project with the main orientation portrait and containing 1 page. I want also create a landscape layout witch contains 2 pages (portrait page 1 and landscape page 1 & 2) I create a folio with both orientations. When i flip i go from page 1 (portrait) to page 1&2 landscape. Identical for the page 2. But when i swipe in de landscape i have 2 identical pages next to each other? I want this double pages gone in my landscape mode. can anyone help me?
    Thx, Jan

    Don't bother. There is nothing to be gained by this at all.
    Stick to one orientation and be done with it.

  • A few orientation questions

    Hey there,
    I'm new to the whole JDO/Object relational mapping thing. I have a few
    questions and hope somebody can answer them for me.
    The first question is:
    When I query against a large DB table, and only want to obtain a small set
    of objects from a large resultset, how does JDO(and Kodo particularly)
    answer? What I mean is, is there a way for me to use Kodo to create an
    efficient forum with a paging function?
    Second Question:
    Currently we have a method to retrieve an object from the database. We then
    put it in the session and modify it a few times. In the end the modified
    object is optionally saved in the database by a save method. Sometimes
    however the user will decide not to save after all. I read that in JDO when
    a field is changed, it is automatically saved in the database. This would be
    a little different than our situation. Also, every object only exists once
    in the cache, so if I put an object in the session I have a serious problem
    because this object is unavailable. Do I need to clone the object and put
    that in the session and modify it etc, or is there another way?
    Sorry for the lengthy explanations, but I just didn't know how to summarize
    them. I'm looking forward to your answers.

    database and JDBC driver support scrollable server-side cursors. It
    should be noted that while the JDO specification mandates that a
    Collection is returned from Query execution, you can rely on Kodo always
    returning a List object. Thus, the following code should efficiently
    page through only those results you need:
    Query q = myPersistenceManager.newQuery (ABunchOfStuff.class,
    "field = value");
    List results = (List)q.execute ();
    for (int i = 99990; i < 100000; i++)
    doSomethingWithResult (results.get (i));
    For information on tuning this, see the documentation sections on
    DefaultFetchThreshhold and the related properties.

    One possible approach would be to have a single long-running optimistic
    transaction for the user's specific session. You can modify the object
    over time, and then when the user saves their session, you can commit
    the transaction. Note that other PersistenceManagers will not share the
    cache for the user's PM which hold the object being modified.
    Another option, of course, is to just maintain variables in the session
    indicating how the object will be changed, and then manually merge these
    changes into the object when the user saves. While this does not
    leverege the transparent persistence of JDO, it is sometimes the easiest
    solution.

  • Object Orientated question

    Hi, I am trying to create a program which creates multiple instances of a class in a JPanel which each hold different variable values which can be altered by the user. I have created the Object class and the JPanel where the instances are created but i now need to make it so each instance of the class has a incrementing ID so I will be able to save the variable values of each instance including the x and y coords in the JPanel. This info then needs to be saved inside another class instance on a higher level. I am unsure of which method to use to be able to do this, could you help?

    Well you would have to write the proper methods for deleting and adding notes.
    As far as sending the notes to the Song from the network object, why even do that? Whenever you're dealing with a song, use a Song object to save your notes in order. A Network can contain multiple songs, or whatever, and a Song can contain multiple notes.
    Check out the functionality of ArrayList: http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/util/ArrayList.html
    If I were you, I'd get a single Song object working first before you worry about anything else. Throw in some dummy notes, doesn't matter if they sound nice, just to see it work. You don't even have to display them, just print out their values. When you finish that, then worry about displaying and working with them in a GUI.

  • Camera orientation question

    I know that the camera on some Pearl models is horizontal, and other models have a vertical camera.  I'm looking at buying a case for my phone (Pearl 8120) that lumps the 8110, 8120, and 8130 all together, and has the 8100 separate.  I'm just trying to verify that the 8100 is the only model with a vertical camera, and the 8110, 8120, and 8130 all have the horizontal version.

    No. LR has its own version of Camera Raw built-in. It doesn't use the Photoshop plugin. LR2 effectively has 4.5 built-in.

  • Adobe does not recognize footers in Microsoft Word 2007 to PDF

    I have copied and pasted the details, below, from a previous message I have sent out to an assistive technology listserv.
    I am encountering this problem with various builds and versions of Adobe Acrobat:
    Acrobat X on a Windows Vista 64-bit build (note that this is the best Acrobat I can install on Windows Vista, Adobe Reader XI is not even supported)
    Acrobat X on a Windows XP build, sorry, do not know the bit count (it is my work computer so I can't upgrade anything)
    Acrobat 9 on a Windows 7 64-bit build.
    I have also encountered and checked into whether or not the PDF reads (and does what I want it to) in JAWS 14, latest update (Feb 2013). We encounter the same problem with JAWS and this morning found out that there is a conversion error between Word and Adobe. (See this post, where the ---- are).
    Summary, I have spoken with JAWS, put out a support ticket with NVDA via e-mail, spoken with Microsoft, and tried to communicate with Adobe about this issue for help and Adobe is refusing to help. The other places tried everything they knew but they could not get it to work. I even tried to strip all the page numbers from Word and number using Adobe's page numbering feature, but that was not successful either because I cannot use Roman numerals.
    I would appreciate any feedback the Adobe Forums can give me; please note that I cannot post a sample document at this time as the only document I have is a private work document (cannot share those by policy, so I will have to make up a fake document if I get the time and energy).
    Thank you very much for your time and expertise. The pertient info is above and below in "Original Message" and "Activities section" - the other information is there if you'd like to look. And to provide feedback to Adobe about things I think they could improve, since they will not let me email them directly.
    ----Original Message----
    My question concerns the reading of Footers / Headers in Microsoft Word 2007 and Adobe Acrobat (headers/footers designed in Microsoft Word 2007 and then converted to PDF with "Bookmark" checked in Adobe Acrobat conversion settings).
    The document is a word document containing 50+ pages. There are 12 pages of "front matter" that are marked with Roman numerals. Subsequently, the body text of the document has an Arabic number (1, 2, 3, 4, etc.) in the bottom right corner. Footers are used properly in the document. All Table of Contents links, which do link to both headings in the "front matter" and to headings in the body text, are picked up properly. Literately, the only thing not reading on the document are page numbers (the Word Status bar is reading its page numbers, but the page numbers in the footer are not reading).
    I then need to convert the document to Adobe Acrobat PDF. Granted, I have a full copy of Adobe Acrobat X available to me, and my various assistive technologies have always functioned better when opened directly in Acrobat (rather than Adobe Reader). So, I set the accessibility options (from Word) properly, asking it to bookmark Headers and Footers as appropriate, thinking that this will pick up the page numbers and make them read as the bottom right corner of my PDF.
    All links work in Adobe to navigate by section/heading. All figures are alt tagged. Everything is perfect - but the one thing that NVDA won't read are the page numbers. Visually, the page numbers are there on the document, but NVDA won't pick them up. Additionally, I also changed the appropriate page numbers in Adobe (Page Thumbnail Pane, on the Navigation Pane I believe it is called) - to reflect the section where it is Roman numerals and Arabic numerals. This did not help, and for what it is worth, I cannot get NVDA to voice when I am in this pane, so I don't seem to have a chance of getting the page number info from there.
    NVDA reads the document just fine except for the above-mentioned snare. However, when it reads, it will go to the next page, and say, "Page 2 of 54, (page text), Page 3 of 54 (page text)," etc. when I will need it to say Page ii of 54 (page text), Page iii of 54 (page text)," and so on, changing to "Page 1" when the Arabic numbers are used.
    I know that the Page Label issue is part of Adobe's issue, with them not releasing the PageLabel aspect. (I have looked through some NVDA tickets). I do not know how to put a "changeset" into my copy of NVDA though, or even if it would help (I have no computer scripting skill). The easy answer would be to upgrade to Adobe Reader XI and see if that helps, but I don't have the ability to put it on every computer I use, and *I need this file to read consistently across multiple versions of Adobe* (including Adobe Reader/Acrobat 9, X, and XI). (This file is also going out to people who may not have the latest version of Adobe, but are also running some copy of NVDA, either a portable or a full install).
    Is there any way to pick up the Footers with page numbers voicing in NVDA, and/or have it read the user-editable page number box that is on Adobe's Toolbar (next to the 1 of 54 parentheses). This user-editable box, to jump to page numbers, reflects the Roman numerals I have loaded into the pages of Adobe. When I press Ctrl+Shift+N in Adobe, I can also go to the appropriate page (if I type in iii, it will take me to iii, if I type in 34, it will take me to the Arabic number 34 -- NOT the 34 of 54, which would land me on a different page. And I want to land on the page that has the Arabic 34, so that's functioning fine.
    I just need the page numbers in the footer to voice, "Page iii," or "Page iv," or "Page 29," etc. If I could get NVDA to do that, I could say to viewers of this document, "If you are using NVDA, remember to Ctrl+Shift+N to get the GoTo Box, then type in the page number you want if you cannot follow a link or a bookmark." This document is *very* accessible in my opinion with lots of ways to navigate...the only aspect of navigation that isn't being picked up are those footer page numbers!
    I do have my Document Formatting settings on the NVDA menu set to "Report Headers," but that does not seem to help in either Microsoft Word 2007 or Adobe Acrobat. I have even switched the page numbers from the footer to the header to see if that would help and it didn't.
    ----Activities I have done today----
    I spent over an hour on the phone today with Freedom Scientific (makers of JAWS) trying to troubleshoot this. We discovered that Footers will not read very well in JAWS and Microsoft Word 2007 (only solution is to stop reading document text and read Virtual Viewer text briefly, then go back out to document text, then back into Virtual Viewer which is NOT an acceptable or accessible solution whatsoever -- too much work for someone trying to read the document) -- and then we also discovered that:
    Upon conversion from Word 2007 to .txt file (.docx to .txt), there are no alt tags for the figures in the document, or page numbers.
    Upon conversion from Word 2007 to Adobe Acrobat X then to .txt file, every insert of a page number and footer is replaced with the same alt numberpad numerical code: the one that generates female. ♀No wonder JAWS and NVDA are skipping this, neither understand how to communicate it.
    On the advice of JAWS Technical Support I contacted Microsoft Accessibility Technical Support and spent an hour on the phone with them. They say that unless Adobe can find a solution, it appears that it is impossible for Microsoft products to read the footer if JAWS was unsuccessful doing what I wanted it to do. The document/footer in question includes about 12 pages of front matter (numbered in Roman numerals) and 44 pages of body text (numbered in Arabic numerals).
    I kindly explained to the Microsoft Support Agent that I found this issue hard to believe, although I understood. Sighted folks have the ability to make their documents look quite professional and that is the caliber and quality of documents anticipated from everyone, especially college students graduating from school, or job applicants. That a coding issue prevents the footer from being read properly, except in Edit view, is disappointing. The representative was with me 100% of the way. She completely understood where I came from. And yes, when I am designing the document myself, I know what I put there (or I pretty much do, anyway). But if I recieve a document, it is much harder to tell what is really there or not, or how the page numbers really lay. And this is confusing as heck, believe me.
    I then called Adobe Technical Support, after having a brief online chat with them. Granted, I had to leave the chat in the middle because I got interuptted by something that was high-priority, but the woman chatting from Adobe says that chat is only for installation issues, and I will have to pay to open a support ticket. Excuse me? I have paid a hefty sum of money for Adobe Acrobat 9 and Adobe Acrobat X (work paid for the other Acrobat X copy). I deserve this problem to be troubleshooted for free. There was even a statement on the Adobe Acrobat X website that said Acrobat X users didn't have to pay for support, but Reader users did.
    ----Slight bit of rant and constructive criticism----
    In speaking with Adobe Technical Support, I had to wait on hold for 30 minutes before my call was answered, and then I had to consent to being on hold countless times and had to answer, "Yes, I am converting from Word 2007 to PDF using Adobe Acrobat X" at least 6 times. The representative would put me on hold, then ask me the question, then put me on hold again, repeated 6 times over 45 minutes. At the end of 45 minutes (1 hour and 20 minutes of wasted time by now, that I must justify to my employer) - I told the representative I wanted to speak with his supervisor immediately, I did not care if he was trying to fill out a support ticket (and putting me on hold at least 4 more times in 10 minutes while he claimed he was filling out the support ticket) - and finally he put me on hold again and gave me to a very helpful supervisor. Within 6 minutes of speaking with the supervisor the supervisor had my support ticket filled out and I should recieve a call from Adobe within the next 30 minutes if his estimation was right (he estimated two hours, but it's been an hour and a half).
    I have yet to know what can be done about my document. Freedom Scientific Technical Support is closed now for the day and I need to work tomorrow and Friday away from the phone. As I stated to Microsoft Accessibility Support, I truly feel that Adobe should read the page footers, every document says that Adobe should be able to read the page footers, and I feel slighted that as a person who uses assistive technology, there is some glitch that isn't making this happen. I am not blaming a specific place per se, except I am a little frustrated with Adobe especially since they have not gotten back to me, and I am frustrated with their customer service. JAWS customer service and Microsoft customer service were both exemparly, and I cannot say enough good things about them. My wasted time with Adobe however, that was disrespect in my opinion. And I certainly will not pay to open a support ticket, and my workplace has a site license. They've paid enough already.
    If you've read this far, thank you. I look forward to replies, or at least understanding. And if anyone has ideas, I'd appreciate it very much (yes, I have tried taking the page numbers off and using Adobe's page number feature, but that would not allow Roman numerals. Only Arabic.).

    Greetings NoNameGiven,
    If I understand the problem correctly (I’m not sure I do) you would prefer ‘iii’ to be read as “eye eye eye” rather than “three”? The alt text property is the only way that I know of to make this happen. Hope this helps.

  • Don't show rows in the dialog once they have been selected

    Hi All,
    This is more of an approach oriented question rather a technical issue.
    I am using ADF-BC-JSF Jdeveloper 10.1.3.3.
    I have 2 master entities and VOs - Employee and ProjectsMaster. Each Employee can work on multiple projects for which I have a 3rd entity and VO EmpProjectRelation. I have designed a page EmployeeDetail that shows details of an employee along with all his projects (using EmpProjectRelation, also mapped to ProjectsEntity to show Project Name and Location) in a table through a view link (Employee ->EmpProjectRelation).
    New projects can be added to this Employee by clicking on Add Button that displays dialog page and all the available projects from the ProjectsMaster VO. Now I multi-select the projects and clcik Submit.
    The projects get reflected to the parent page although not Refreshing table of 2 VOs after a dialog but my concern is how should I prevent the selected projects being shown again in the dialog box. It should show only those projects which are not selected yet.
    Any ideas?? Any Approaches?? Any directions??
    Regards,
    Neeraj
