Foreign language on my Apps

Dear Community, I'm stuck in Europe for the next two years, just signed up for apple id etc. problem is that i now get itunes etc in the local lingo! can't make heads or tails out of it. how do I get everything on my iPad in a civilized language? thx. NI

Most content is licensed to Apple to sell on a country-by-country basis, the result is that you generally only have local language content in each country - if the license holder won't let Apple sell their content in English in the country where you are then Apple can't sell it.
Have you looked to see if other, for example, ebook apps/stores where you are have more English-language books ?

  • Foreign Language in Finder & App Menus, help please?

    Hello,
I'm trying to help an elderly, but adventurous new Mac user who's switched from PC/Windows and he needs to have his Finder and App menus in Hebrew. I experimented on my MacBook Pro, but was unable to switch the Language Menus to Hebrew, even though I have Hebrew Fonts installed and apparently have Hebrew capability because in the System Prefs>International>Language Panel, I was able to move the Hebrew Language option (in Hebrew letters) to first in the list above English. And I adjusted the Format and Input Panel attributes accordingly. But even Logging Out and In and Restarting would not switch the menus. Is there something I'm missing? Doing wrong? I hope to attempt this on his machine tomorrow. Any help or advice will be sincerely appreciated! Thanks in advance.
    Best regards,
    David

What I need to do and have been unable to do, is get Hebrew to be the OS system font - you know, in the menus and dialog boxes.
    I understood you perfectly before.
What you are describing is called "OS localization". Is has nothing at all to do with the presence of Hebrew fonts on your machine or your ability to read and write Hebrew. It requires that someone has translated all the menus and dialog boxes into Hebrew. Those translations have only been done by Apple for the 18 languages which are listed in the tech specs for OS X, and Hebrew is not yet among them.
Whether the firms that sell Mac's in Israel have perhaps done these translations for themselves and offer them to their customers I don't know.

  • My new iPad3 is set to English language but iTunes and app store are in a foreign language. how do I change this?

My iPad3 is working great but iTunes and app store are in foreign language that I can't understand.  Need help changing these programs to english.  Other programs are in english and settings is set up for english.  thanks,  Jim

As far as I know the language of the two stores on the iPad (iTunes and the App Store) can't be changed - they should be in the language of the country where your account is based (if they aren't correct then try logging out of your account by tapping on your id in Settings > Store and then log back in).

  • How do I purge foreign language files from OS X, 10.8, without using purchased software?

I jumped from Snow Leopard on an older MBP to a new MBP with Mtn Lion already installed, and though my older MBP had all but English and Spanish languages deleted from the Snow Leopard install, it appears that I do now have many foreign languages I would rather not have on my hard disk.  I ran across an app from Stellar Software, Speedup Mac, that has a demo version, but without paying the $29 purchase price purging of language files cannot be done.  (It was this app that showed me that all those other languages were hidden on my drive.)  I am simply wondering if there is lesser expensive apps for stripping languages from 10.8 or simple command line instructions that I (not a usual Terminal user) could use to accomplish this "downsizing".  BTW, I'm not too keen on reinstalling 10.8 just to purge the unwanted languages.  I've got plenty of hard drive space (yes, it is HDD not Flash-based) but I think this new MBP would start up faster w/o the extra files.  Despite going from an MBP with a Core2Duo to an MBP with a Corei5, my new machine is way slower starting up.  Much gracias everyone.

I recommend that you do not do this. Extraneous language files do not occupy much space, and removing them has been known to break future upgrades for those apps. There is also no way to undo their removal, short of restoring your system from a backup.
Your computer's performance is unaffected by the presence of these localized language files. Deleting them will result in no performance improvement whatsoever. Localized language resources are stored in resource folders contained within each app. They load what is required according to your specifed settings in System Preferences.

  • Getting weird adobe pop-up with foreign language characters and no download

For the last week and change, it seems every time I have been prom, ptsd to download something from done reader, when I click on the "trust website", instead of the page and download opening up, I get an Adobe pop-up with completely foreign language (several different, it looks like) characters, and nothing to click on, and no download.  I'm on a Mac, version 10.8.5, on Safari.  What gives?????

Thank you for the screenshot.  The text in the message says
Before viewing PDF documents in this browser you must launch Adobe Reader and accept the End User License Agreement then quit and relaunch the browser.
So all you need to do is to open the Adobe Reader app, accept the EULA, then restart your browser.
I don't know why this message is displayed in Japanese, but I have seen similar reports in this forum for the latest Adobe Reader on Mac.

    (1) My iBooks Author help resources are in a foreign language. How do I change it to English? (2) Is there an iBooks Author pdf manual I can download?

There is no PDF available. I sent a link  to a page full of links and info not much different from the help files.
There are many Free books in the iBooks store which will take you through the basics of iBA.
I  like "Create your first Interactive book using iBooks Author"   its created by iBook-Widgets.com - who also  supply widgets at a price.. but the book is very free and very good.. search the iBooks store for their title.
You cannot use iBA on an iPad, however, I also use the iPad app --  "Book Creater"   ( redjumper.net ) its very low priced around $3 or so. The people who  create it are helpful and friendly. You can distribut your books to friends and family  using  Dropbox or other cloud storage. If you want to creaet an ePub file and then upload to the iBooks store, its not difficult.  You create the book on your iPad. It is no where near as good as iBA for functionality.. but it spossible to  make really good eBooks.
I think Applecare shoud come into effect with the language problems if it can be  found to be a glitch on the computer.  Applecare is product based and does not apply to software.
Take it stage by stage,   visit your Apple store and   ask if they can solve the help files in langauges first, then  react to the answer, it could be they can solve the issue which leave you a clear path with iBA.
Also you can  gather more indormation about how to use it with the help files.
Try the info I have  included and   see how it develpops... any problems get back here and we can look for alternatives.
    try this... https://itunes.apple.com/app/id661166101?mt=8&&referrer=click%3Da63089e4-e3d4-49 e9-896a-58e0cfd50acf
its the free version... if you like upgrade later.
Happy New Year... hope its a good one....

  • Poor keyboard when used in foreign languages using accented characters

I'm looking for a replacement to the built-in virtual keyboard of the iPad (same thing for the iPod or the iPhone). This keyboard is fun to use in english but carry lot of problems for someone who want to write in foreign languages, where accented characters are used. Those characters are available, but in such way that they are unusable for someone who need to do serious work, let say in french, german or spanish.
I can't find an App that do this job. Is there one?
(By the way, the best will be that Apple offer this choice in the next iOS...)
    Thanks

Sorry, there will be no immediate or short-term fixes through an app.
Those who need or want to do "... serious work..." on the iPad, by which I guess you must mean a lot of typing, need to get a keyboard to do it with, the current choice being between the Keyboard/Dock and a selection of wireless BT models. I'm going to assume that using one of those will give you as close to the functionality of a 'normal' setup as you're likely see on the iPad.
As for some fix in a future iOS release, you should first think out exactly how you would like them to fix this issue, describe it in some detail, and then forward it along to Apple via their established

Sorry, I only have English on my computer. Is that a dialect of American you are speaking? lol Actually American terminology would be another thing I would like to be able to uninstall. lmao
    Pete
LOL.  It's 'de-install' Pete, if you really want to be purist about it.    Please let me know if you ever find an app that can do that.
Personally I don't see the point of keeping junk like language files that will never be used on my HDD, despite that I have oodles of space left on my 750gb internal.  I'd rather the space be used for something useful. Removing them will be one of the first jobs I do when ML has finished downloading and has installed itself successfully.
On the other hand, if you do leave them on your HDD, they can be considered as a sort of space-saving device that is easily removed if or when you realise that space is suddenly getting tight.  Just whip 'em out and problem solved - temporarily.
Just need to remember never to remove any English language files. They could be being used by OSX and removing them will certainly cause trouble.

  • By mistake I have lost My "Firefox" that was in the English language & instead I have one in a foreign language. How do I change it back yo English?

I have an apple computer.A week or so ago a window appeared that ask if I wanted an upgrade on Mozilla Firefox & if so click on "Install" which I did. Somehow by mistake this changed my Firefox program from the English language to a foreign language.( I think it might be "Turkish" but not sure.) How do I change it back to English?

Firefox 4 versions and later do not run on a PowerPC Mac.<br />
Firefox 4 and later require at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.

I need to add a foreign language fonts. How do I do it?

There were 2 armenian fonts and I added them to my keyboard.  However, most of the keys are typing square boxes...!!!!!
Are you really not able to type it right here on this site like I can below?  The top row of keys is
    (HM QWERTY) ճւերտյւիոպ
    (Western QWERTY) խվէրդեըիոբ
I am wondering if you are perhaps trying to type into MS Word?  That app tends to be defective.  If so, try selecting the text and setting the font to Mshtakan, which is a complete Armenian font that comes with OS X.

  • Replacing HTML text :  English to foreign language

    Hi Guys
What is the easiest way to find and replace text on the website?  I need some english words and dates translated to a foreign language that is not listed in the culture.. ??

    Hello,
Mukul described the work flow for translating Captions and Closed Captions, but I do not know if that is sufficient for you? Could you explain what your course precisely is about: do you have captures and if yes do you have to capture the app in a different language? Do you have buttons in your course, Quizzes, assessments etc? Using master slides and object styles could help your to make the work flow easier. Was planning to blog about some tips for localisation but up till now did not find time. I have created several courses that I had to translate in 2 other languages.

  • Stuck in recovery with foreign language can't insatll os COMPLICATED!!

Stuck in recovery (lanuage is set to foreign country and not changing when clicking on any other country) no wifi connecting tried ethernet not working? Just bought from ebay..2010 macbook pro..it was working fine when first put it on then i wiped the hard drive and tried to reinstall os mavericks but i cant understand any if of it because its in foreign language setting i go up to the right hand corner and change the language but it still just stays the same? I think the airport card could be broke? I put in ethernet and it read it as working but still wouldn't letting me install os? Could someone help?

A late 2011 MBP came with Lion (10.7).  Since you say that you have erased the HDD, I suggest that you do the following:
YOU WILL NEED A SOLID INTERNET CONNECTION.
Boot the MBP with the OPTION+COMMAND+R keys.
That should result in a display with a revolving globe.
This will connect you to the Apple servers and allow you to install the original OSX (LION).
    Follow the instructions.
Installing Lion will create your own account with Apple.
Then you may download and install Mavericks (10.9) from the App store..
    Ciao.

  • Cleaning out foreign language files

I installed the latest Micro-Smith Spring Cleaning Ap.
To save space I've been deleting foreign language files.
How many of these can be removed?
    I've currently got 5627.
For example, do I need any Arab files?
I thought that when I initially installed Leopard I opted for only English, but the Spring Cleaning Language File Folder indicated that I had over six thousand.
MS Tech Support said, "I don't have the exact number of how many non english files there are. If you want, you can probably contact apple to see if they have an exact number of non-english files. To be honest, I would just leave it alone. Those files don't take up much space, and its not going to do your system any harm."
The files do take up space. If I don't need them why shouldn't I delete them?

As per one other respondent, I have used Monolingual with OSX (note:prior to Leopard. I haven't seen anything to confirm it won't mess up Leopard) but I haven't had any problems with it.
The advice it offers is to leave any file related to your main language - in other words if you use US English, keep International English. I also erred on the side of caution and kept anything that mentioned English. You can easily save about 2Gb of space doing this as it deletes a lot of project and help files related to apps like iDVD.
I'm no expert but if you opt for English as your installed language it might be the case that OSX installs in English but additional stuff like iLife still installs all the foreign language files.
It also gives you the option to remove unwanted processor architectures. I was wary of this option but I had no problems, although it didn't save quite as much space.
    Good Luck

  • I downloaded Pimsleur foreign language mp3's and put them on my iPad but now cant find them.  Any advice on how to access these files?!  Thanks

I downloaded foreign language mp3's to my iPad and iPod nano and cant find either one of them on the device even though they both claim to be there under "other" memory when I plug them into my computer.  Any advice on how to find these files on my iPad/iPod device?

I put them in iTunes and then dragged them to my devices.  On my iPad it looked like it put it under the 'purchased' tab but I looked in the music app and purchased tab and still cant fine them anywhere.  So I tried to move them over again but it says they are already there do I want to skip or duplicate.  Also, when my iPad is attached to my computer, I cant find them either.....

  • Final Cut Pro Foreign Language Menus

I have OSX 10.28, originally a Japanese version, with Final Cut Pro 4 Japanese. I can switch my OS into Japanese, English, Spanish and others, But Final Cut Pro I can only switch Japanese and English. No Spanish, nothing!
Now that I am in America, does the English version of Final Cut Pro 4. switch into Spanish? Does the Eng.Ver.FCP4 switch into Japanese?
Someone running FCP4 could you check for me if those languages come up in the English version, that would be great. This all happens in the International settings of the System preferences, drag the the language to the top. Then the menus changes into the foreign languages, after the program has been closed and reopened.
Adobe acrobate, Text editor, Keynote all switch into all three but fcp4 does not. What's up?
    Thank you in Advance

Final Cut Pro 4. switch into Spanish? Does the
    Eng.Ver.FCP4 switch into Japanese?
Normally Apple apps are all the same in terms of the localizations included -- i.e. there are no Japanese or English versions. You can usually check what a particular app offers by doing Get Info on the icon and hitting the languages tab. It may be that FCP4 only had a couple of localizations and that later versions have more.
PS This note indicates FCP4 only does English, French, German, and Japanese:
