Forgot to uninstall Office Test Drive?

Just used Migration Assistant to transfer everything from my G4 iMac to new Intel iMac, including my Office 2004 stuff in Applications folder. After, I realized I had read somewhere to remove Office Test Drive from new iMac before installing the full version. Now they are both in my applications folder. I've started Word, Excel, Powerpoint and all seem to be working fine. So what do i do with that Test Drive folder? Can I just toss it in trash? (When i hit "remove office" in the Test Drive folder, it appears like it would remove ALL Office stuff, including my registered version.)
Thanks for any tips!

Hello,
If you have not yet launched the Test Drive version (as in run it), then you should be able to safely just move it to the trash and empty the trash. It should only be a problem if you had run the Test Drive version or if they were in the same folder.
From what you describe, you should be able to just trash it and forget it. I've done it that way once in the past without any trouble.
I hope this helps.

  • Uninstalling office test drive

    Hi everyone,
I had got my first mac recently, I don't know about mac. When i tried to uninstall office test drive which was pre-installed, I ran the remove office inside the office 2004 folder. After running it, it put many files into the trash. But when I go back and look at the application folder, office 2004 is still there, all the files too. I tried to run the remove office again, it says there is nothing to uninstall. Could i just drag the office 2004 folder to trash to completely uninstall office?
Another question is when i uninstall, there is an application called office X, what is the difference between office x and office 2004?
    Thanks a lot,
    Jimmy

Thanks David for the quick reply. I just rebooted leopard and tried to remove office again. this time, it removes all the files and the office 2004 test drive folder to the trash. Empty the trash and its gone. Hope this could help someone who may have the same problem.

I am in the process of installing a full version of Office 2004.
Now i want to uninstall Office Test Drive.
I started the procdure with the uninstaller, and i am asked what programs i want to uninstall:
1 - office 2004 test drive - OK i do want to unsinstall it
2 - office v.X - what is this?? i never heard of it (i am mac newbie). can i uninstall it?
    thank you very much
    ciao
Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

If you Mac mini is new then more than likely there is a single uninstaller for both products and Microsoft has just been a bit lazy by listing both. Regardless, if you uninstall both you won't have an issues.

  • Can't uninstall Office Test Drive

I have both the test drive and the whole version of Microsoft Office and neither will allow me to open documents inside an email. There is no Microsoft Office X in my applications to install the test drive. Does anyone know how to uninstall this program (Idon't have the CD anymore).

I would start off by visiting this web site

  • Uninstalling MS Office test Drive

I am trying to uninstall MS Offic Test Drive as I am using NeoOffice now. Every time I try and open a document it tries to use MS Word - which is annoying....
    Anyway...
I tried to use the "Remove Office" utility and it looked like it was working - it saw the test drive, started removing files and then stopped b/c I was in a non-admin account. I logged into my admin account and tried the same thing and now the Remove Office is not finding any installs of the software - but I can see then - click on them and it starts opening the trial.
    Weird...
So, is there another way to get rid of this?
    Thanks,
    Rebecca

Try this app to clean up unwanted programs it finds the files that can be removed http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/32740 but always check they dont have an uninstaller program first, MSOffice does but doesnt seem to remove the associated files. Mitch

  • Microsoft office test drive

Microsoft Office Test Drive came with my new iMac. I already have Microsoft Office and it was copied over when my files were transfered to my new computer. I would automatically be taken to Test Drive whenever I opened a document I had already created. This became a problem when the Test Drive period was over and it asked me to purchase a registered copy.
My only option was to open my already registered copy of word, excel, etc. and open the file I wanted. This is workable solution, but not I am not enthused.
I have removed Test Drive and now when I try to open a document U get an error message saying "The operation cannot be completed. An unexpected error occured (error code -10660)."
So the computer is obviously trying to locate the Test Drive version that is no longer there. How can I make my registered version the default? I tried searching the message board, but I only found people who were having problems uninstalling Test Drive.

The Office Test Drive version should be removed from the hard drive before installing the full version. The following was copied from Microsoft's Mactopia website:
    http://www.microsoft.com/mac/default.aspx?pid=office2004td
Note: You should remove the Test Drive version of Office 2004 before installing the complete version.
I'm afraid you need to remove Office 2004 and re-install it.

  • Removing Office Test Drive from new iMac

I purchased Office 2004 with my new iMac. The installation instructions inform me to remove "...any Preview or Test Drive versions....". My attempts to uninstall the Test Drive have failed. The "boxes" I am instructed to check are not there. I have searched for hours on this and the MicroSoft site to find an answer to this dilemma. Did I miss the solution in my search?

Just drag the "Office 2004 for Mac Test Drive" folder
to the trash - empty it - and install the new
    software.
Just to add a bit here: this should work if you've never actually run the Test Drive version. Until you've actually run the Test Drive, nothing has been installed for the uninstaller to find.
Once you've run the Test Drive version at least once, it'll install all of its libraries and fonts and stuff all over the hard drive, just like any other program. Then you'll need the uninstaller.
This page has more information that might be helpful.

  • Since upgrade to Tiger jumps to Office Test Drive

Recently upgraded to Tiger and although I can open previously installed (in Panther) Microsoft Office 2004 by going the long way round (File-open etc) if I click on any existing Office document it always automatically opens the Office Test Drive then says it has expired. How can I get it to divert to the Office that's already installed? If I remove Office from the test drive folder will it delete all Office programmes? Hope I'm making sense.
Most recent update last week to 11.3.7

I just bought a new MacBook with the office test drive on it, and am having the same problem--except the solution will not work. I immediately migrated my old Office X for Mac to the new computer and deleted test drive. Yet it will not stop choosing office 11.2 for all my word files. Each time I try to open something I have to do control-click and then choose the earlier version of office. Each time I try to do "get info" and then choose to open with the earlier office version, and then hit "change all" and then CONFIRM this choice...it still does NOT change.
Do I have to uninstall and then reinstall office? This seems to be an annoying ploy to get me to buy the newer office suite.

  • Office Test Drive: relaunching the initial Entourage setup?

I have been playing about with the Office Test Drive--does anyone know how to run the initial setup that Entourage performs on its first launch, again? I was testing the import of an old database; now that I see it works well I want to trash that database and rerun the initial setup again, but there is no option to do so that I can find.
    1. "Import" does not work as it won't allow me to select from the Office Identities or Main Identity or Database folder/files. (I want to do this from a backup of the database and not from a program itself. This worked on the initial setup but does not seem to want to work in the "Import" command.)
    2. I cannot seem to trash the old identity; when I drag it to the trash it goes into the trash but the trash will not allow me to empty it as it says the Database is in use.
    3. Holding down the option key upon launching Entourage worked once--it went to launch Database Utility but quit unexpectedly, and when I launched Entourage it was wiped clean and gave me the "new import" option, but I wasn't prepared to install the new database at that moment and now launching Entourage again does not give me that option. Also, when I have tried that trick again--holding down the option key during the lauch of Entourage--Database Utility launches correctly now! It does not "wipe clean" the program this time.
Should I delete the Office Test Drive and reinstall a new copy? I found it on Mactopia; I'm just worried that the computer will detect that I'm reinstalling Test Drive and refuse to allow it. (I still have 30 days left of the Test Drive as it stands now.)
    Any other suggestions?

It doesn't make sense to me that you would have a
problem like this. I have bought 2 iMacs this year.
One of them was about 7 weeks old when I got it and
my installation of the test drive worked just fine.
Bought a 3 month old e Mac last year and used the
test drive for 30 days while awaiting delivery of my
    full version of Office.
It has nothing to do with the date the software was
installed but from the date it was first opened.
Wierd problem. Did you buy this Mac new?
yes brand new, from the apple store online at apple.com,, I talked to some guy on the apple help chat thing and he said my machine was manufactured on 10/22/05 I ordered it 11/28/05. Anyway I did trash it lastnight and am going to try and reinstall it it. The tech suggested it then he said he didnt think it would work lol. I also downloaded the program suggested and it works well also.. so either way Im covered now.

  • Microsoft office test drive expired new PowerBook, help

hi. I don't know where else to ask this question. I have had my PowerBook for about 6 hours and I am already frustrated ... I tired to use the Microsoft Office Test Drive that is on the machine only to have it tell me that my 30 day trial has expired. How can it be expired when the PowerBook has only been used for less than 6 hours and Office for the install only? Any suggestions on how to get this to work? Or who to complain to? To Apple? It is almost impossible to complain to Microsoft or to get an answer from them.
I have purchased a copy of Microsoft Office but it hasn't shown up yet.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Microsoft office test drive - Expired??

Hi there. I bought an emac about 2 months ago, and it had 'microsoft office 2004 for mac test drive' which is supposed to be a 30 day free test drive. But as soon as i tried to open it it said it had expired!
I rang up the store and the lady said to drag it to the trash, then re-install it by using my grey 'Mac OS X install Disc'
But when i use the disk and go to 'Optional Installs' i get to the 'custom install' page and there is no 'microsoft office test drive' to tick. under applications it only has iLife, iTunes and about 6 others.
Anyone out there who could help me?

You can download MS Office 2004 for Mac Test Drive from the MS website, also. Here is the link:

  • Help deleting Office Test Drive

    Good afternoon.
I have never used Office Test Drive on my mini. My daughter, who's in college, purchased Office:Mac and I want to install it on her iBook, as well as the mini, as she often does work on that also.
I can't seem to delete the version that is on the mini, which needs to be done before you can install the version she bought.
When I click on the Remove Office icon in the Office folder it goes through and searches my drive. A .txt file is put on my desktop which says it found Office 2004 test drive for Mac. However, when it goes to the results screen in the removal tool, where I suppose to select what I want to remove, nothing is showing up. If I click on continue, it tells me that I've chosen not to removed any office components. Well, duh!! There's nothing to select!!!
How can I get rid of this to install the full version my daughter purchased?
    Thanks for the help.

    Hi wyzard,
On your hard disk, open Microsoft Office 2004 folder that contains the Test Drive. Any documents you saved in the Microsoft Office 2004 Test Drive shoud be moved somewhere in your documents folder.
In the Microsoft Office 2004 folder, double-click "Remove Office". In the Results window, choose Microsoft Office 2004 (including Test Drive) and then click "continue" and follow the prompts.

  • Removing Office Test Drive

If I click to remove office from the Office Test Drive folder will it remove the 'real' version of office I have installed?

It's best to use the built in Remove Office app- this is in the test drive folder- and THEN install your copy of Office, after test drive is gone.
    HTH
Edit: the remove office app will present you with a choice of which install you want to eradicate. Might be best to do them both, then reinstall. YMMV...

  • Can't delete Office Test Drive.  "Remove Office" doesn't see it.

I've searched the web and these forums for a solution to my problem but came up empty, so I'm hoping someone can help.
I'm trying to delete Office Test Drive from my brand-spankin' new (refurbished) mini, and I've followed the instructions that I found posted several times in Discussions threads, but the procedure isn't working. When I run "Remove Office" and it searches for installed Office products, it doesn't find anything, which means I can't select anything to delete!
How can I completely get rid of it if the uninstaller doesn't work?
    Thanks.
