Except for the iPod shuffle, you cannot restore an iPod to the PC format from any Mac OS X application while retaining the capability to use that iPod as a music player. You can use the Disk Utility in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder to reformat it as MS-DOS, but it will only work as an external flash disk until it is restored.
You need to either restore the iPod on a PC, use the Windows version of iTunes in either Boot Camp or Parallels Desktop to restore it, or use the Disk Utility in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder to format it, which will cause it to only function as a flash disk.

  • HELP connecting my iPod 5g to a Windows from a MAC

My iPod 5th generation won't connect to my Windows PC.
I have tried the 5Rs and nothing works.
When i plug in the iPod to the USB, it comes up under the Computer tab as Removable disk 'G'.
My PC refuses to recognize my iPod as an iPod.
I connected it to a MAC first, and it works fine from there, and is recognized as an iPod.
As well i have the latest version of iTunes, and it will not recognize it in iTunes on my PC.
    Any ideas? Please!

The reason your iPod is not showing on your windows computer is because it is in a mac format. windows format will work on a mac but mac will not work on windows. The only way to fix it is to reformat the iPod to factory setting, which its obviously not showing up in. Try putting your ipod manually into disk mode by toggling the hold switch back and forth then put it on the off position (no red showing) the hold the the menu and center select button until you see an apple, still holding in the center quickly switch your finger from menu down to play and continue to hold the two buttons together. it should come up saying disk mode eject before disconnecting. if it does not come up and say disk mode at all and just turns on try doing it while plugged into the pc and if not, try laying it flat on the counter and trying again. if you can get it in disk mode it should show up in itunes promting you that it is in a mac format and needs to be restore, restore your ipod, note this is going to erase EVERYTHING

  • Hi, I need the program of access from the office, so i'm going to but the Microsoft office 365 university, will i have to but any other program to use the access from my mac? or to open any database that I will have did from any other computer (not mac)?

There has never been a Mac version of Access. Microsoft never created one, realising that it was very inferior to the FileMaker Pro database application.
So if you must run Access you will have to run Windows on your mac.

how can i uninstall windows from my mac?

Use the Boot Camp Assistant in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder to return the drive to a single partition setup. If you were running Windows from a disk image, delete that image.

  • HT1329 Can I reformat a video ipod from a mac format to a windows format?

I am wanting to give my old video ipod to my mother. The problem is that I use a mac and she uses a PC. Am I able to reformat this ipod to a PC for her?

    Hello there Kelly,
When you follow the regular syncing steps outlined in this article named iOS: Syncing with iTunes found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1386, iTunes in Windows will prompt you that the iPod needs to be erased and synced. That process will format the iPod to the use the Windows file system.

  • IPod used with windows, now bought Mac and want to transfer music

    Gang:
First of all, I fell in love with apple products when I received an iPod for Christmas last year, loved it so much, i have turned around and bought an iMac G5 lol. Here is my dilema: I have been using my iPod w/ Windows, but now I want to quit using Windows, and use same iPod (with all its accumulated music) on my iMac. I made the mistake of connecting my iPod to the Mac it erased everything on my iPod (thank goodness I kept my Windows machine with the back ups) ... what do you suggest to transfer my music? Is there a way to use the iPod or do I have to buy 3rd party software as my brother has suggested ... thank you for your help! Cheers

Read through this. It explains how to use your iPod
    to transfer the music...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173
Also, as long as the iPod is formatted for use with
windows, it will work on both.

First of all, I want to thank you for your tip in the right direction; my iPod is now fully functioning with my iMac. This, however, is not the complete tale. I went to the document you referred, and began following the directions step for step. I got to a point where I was copying my iTunes folder onto my iPod when I encountered my first problem. Midway through the copy, I got an error to the effect of "cyclical redundency error," or something to that effect. Windows aborted the transfer and I was left scratching my head. To make matters worse, my iPod would no longer connect to either iTunes or the PC, it would just be in a constant state of "Do Not Disconnect." My windows explorer would show "e:/" was a removable drive, however it said it now needed to be formatted. I thought, "this is wicked annoying, but ok, lets use the iPod updater." No dice. It continued in its "Do Not Disconnect" state indefinetly. I tried resetting, etc., same ends. I tried formatting by totally removing iTunes, then the iPod program itself. The I tried reinstalling the iPod program as if it was the first time (remember, all you Windows users, when you first set the iPod up for use with Windows, you must format it), still that endless "Do Not Disconnect" (and if you put your ear to the iPod, you heard what I would call "click, click, whhrrr" over and over). Finally, I had it. I did a comand line format (c:\format e:) and that worked to reformat it. Then, I basically had an iPod in its "new" state and followed the above link tit for tat, no issues this time. All told, 5+ hours just so I could use my existing iPod ... I'd like to blame Windows for this one, but who knows.
None the less, it seems the ends justify the means in this case; so once again, thank you, everyone, for all your help.
    Cheers

  • Windows-formatted iPod getting recognized as if it was Mac-formatted

I have been using my iPod on a computer running Windows XP for about a year and just plugged it into a new laptop running Windows 7. This message pops up:
"iTunes has detected a Macintosh-formatted iPod. You must restore the iPod before you can use it on Windows"
    ...any ideas?

    Hello smellhound,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Not sure what's going on, but have you tried resetting your iPod with it still connected? To do this, toggle the hold switch on and off, then press and hold the Select (Center) and Menu button together until the Apple logo appears.
It sounds like you are going to have to restore the iPod as instructed in order to use your iPod with your new Windows 7 laptop. Very strange though...

    Hi Susan,
since Fusion is not an Apple it would be better to use their own Product Support.
    However, see here http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=display KC&externalId=1014529 and here http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=display KC&externalId=1003420

  • How do you transfer music from a mac based Ipod to a PC based computer

I have my main Itunes music collection on my "authorized" computer(Mac)at home and would like to transfer/move a copy of my collection to my "authorized"copy of Itunes computer(Windows) at work. My ipod is set up for the mac. Any clues hints or help would be appreciated

If your iPod is formatted for Mac it won't run natively on a PC because Windows operating systems don't recognize Mac OS-formatted disks (HFS or HFS Plus formats). Mac formatted iPods can only be used on a PC that has a third party helper program such as XPlay or MacDrive installed. XPlay is an iPod specific program and can be used as an iTunes alternative, it will also let you copy songs from an iPod to a computer. MacDrive is more general and lets you access various types of Mac formatted drives on Windows such as CDs, DVDs, hard drives etc:
    XPlay

  • Syncing ipod when you have playlists from another computer on ipod

i have a playlist on my ipod given to me by a friend. She did this by syncing my ipod to her itunes on her computer. Now i want to re-dock & sync my ipod to MY itunes library, but am worried it will wipe the gifted playlist off my ipod. How do i do this?

Another method you can use to auto-sync your iPod with iTunes is "Sync Music - Selected Playlists". Syncing selected playlists is just like syncing your whole library only on a smaller scale and more "selectively". This is particularly useful when your library is larger than the capacity of your iPod. When your iPod is is set to sync selected playlists it automatically picks up any changes you made to that playlist in iTunes since you last connected. Anything you added to the playlist will be added to the iPod, anything you deleted from it will be deleted from the iPod. In other words the iTunes playlist and the iPod are kept "in sync".
Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -My iPod for example (the dash will position it at the top of the playlists in Sources). Drag whatever content you want to have into the playlist. Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod: Syncing Music to iPod
