Formatting options with text wrap

We are running BPC MS v10 and gave users the ability to enter comments with our input forms this year. I am pulling the comments into a summary report using a local member which works fine. The problem is I want to format these cells and use left alignment with word wrap enabled in order to view the full comment in each cell. When I select any of the cells in the comment column the alignment and text wrap options are both "selected" in the Excel ribbon but it is not wrapping the comments onto the next line. I have to uncheck the wrap text option in the ribbon and reselect before it will actually wrap to the next line.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Not trivial, but you could Select All, Copy to get the entire imported document onto the Clipboard. Then open a New Pages Word Processing document and then Edit > Paste and Match Style. The new document will match the defaults in the template. If you find that you will be doing this often, make a custom template for this use.

ID CS5: Problem with Text Wrap being Forgetful :(

I am having a problem with text wrap. Whenever I open this INDD file I am working on now, some of the images shift from having what I call "actual" text wrap to having "false" text wrap. "Actual" text wrap *actually* wraps the text around the image as it is supposed to; "false" text wrap says that "Wrap Around Bounding Box" is applied to the image yet no text is wrapped. After opening the file, making sure to unset and reset the text wrap on each offending image to show an "actual" text wrap WITHOUT changing layer order, saving the file, closing, and reopening, some images have "false" text wrap again! This is a 77 page document with images on every page.
Another occurrence is if I largely change the flowed text. If I must remove a paragraph on page 7, for example, then the "actual" text wrapped images on page 10, 12, and 18 change to "false" text wrapped images and I have to reset the text wrap on each image. There are often images in between offending ones that DO NOT change, but it doesn't seem to be the same ones each time. So once image A, C, and D will change to "false" text wrap, while B, E, and F are fine; the next time, A, B, and F are wrong and the others are fine. This is driving me crazy as I have never in 8 years of using InDesign encountered a problem using Text Wrap. Please note:
Ignore Text Wrap IS NOT selected.
The text box IS below the images.
The copy is flowed throughout the document.
Preferences>Composition>"Text Wrap Only Affects Text Beneath Selected"" DOES NOT FIX IT.
"Wrap around bounding box" IS showing as selected for the image/images.
There is NO CLIPPING PATH / PHOTOSHOP PATH / ALPHA PATH on these images.
The images / text box order is not changed between being correct and being incorrect.
Anyone else with this trouble? And, if so, how did you fix it? Thanks,

Anchored Objects with text wrap, need vertical space

Hi. I'm a fairly new InDesign user and have just this past week learned about anchored objects, threading text frames, numbered lists, and some other fun options. So far InDesign has done most everything I need fairly elegantly. However, I have not been able solve one issue.
In my book I have numerous pages that have this issue; I'll just describe one case. On this page there are 4 graphics running down the right side of the page. These are not anchored graphics. They do have text wrap defined on the left side and bottom. There is text that wraps lovely on the left.
Each of these four graphics has a specific paragraph it needs to top align with. However, the text it aligns with may not take up as much vertical space as the graphic does. When I anchor each graphic with the paragraph it needs to align with, the four graphics overlap each other.
At the moment, to make it look right, I have placed each graphic individually and added a blank paragraph above each paragraph of text that should align with a graphic and use the Space Above of each blank paragraph to have it align with the graphic.
I'm not even sure what to search to try and solve this. I looked briefly into compound paths, but that didn't look like it would help.
I hope this is clear and thank you for any assistance at all.

No problem. Click your cursor somewhere in the paragraph that ought to be aligned with the next image down, then run this Javascript.
It's not entirely accurate, as it uses the font size to do a minimal adjustment where it actually should use the font's cap height -- but you cannot get to that through scripting. This final adjustment is necessary because ID does know the baseline, and your first line ought to dip just below this to have the top of the first line aligned to the top of the image.

Contour Options in Text Wrap?

I am new to CS6 Indesign. However, I have gone through the Classroom in a Book by Adobe and I have searched the Lynda.com site. Please help me find the answer.
I made an object box. I put a large letter G in the box. I inserted and anchored the box in a text box full of text. I selected the object box and turned on text wrap. I selected wrap around object shape. I want the letters in the text box to wrap around the edge of the letter G in the object box, but contour options is grayed out so I cannot use those options. Why would contour options be grayed out and unavailable, and how do I accomplish my task?

Problems with Text Wrap

Hello,
I'm new and getting more and more frustrated trying to wrap text around a couple of images in InDesign.
I saved my picture file as, Save for Web & Devices in Photoshop, and in the text wrap options I clicked "wrap around object shape" and under contour options I chose Detect Edges. I don't know what I'm doing wrong and all of my searches for possible errors are coming up short.
Does anyone know what I could be doing wrong?

At my wits end: Placing anchored object inline with text & wrap

Granted I never learned InDesign the way I should. Once upon a time I fared well with Aldus Pagemaker. But I've just spent the last two hours trying to resolve a massive gap in my knowledge and I can't do it. I'm exasperated and desperate for help.
What I want to do: I have a tech manual with lots of text and need to place graphic objects in a way that the text will wrap around the object and if I need to edit the text, the graphic will move with where I inserted the graphic.
What happens:
1. I have a text frame with text. I place the cursor at the beginning of the paragraph and click File> Place, thereafter choosing a graphic.
2. Using the selection tool, I click the graphic and then click the icon "wrap around bounding box".
3. The text shifts a teeny bit but does not wrap around the object.
4. Object is, however, inline/anchored, with text.
OR
1. With nothing selected I click File> Place, thereafter choosing a graphic.
2. I place the graphic on the lower part of the page over a blank space.
3. I move the graphic over the text and then click the icon "wrap around bounding box".
4. The text flows but when I edit the text, it does not flow around the graphic.
Conclusion:
I am retarded. I even went through Lynda's example here: http://www.adobe.com/designcenter/video_workshop/?id=vid0073 I was able to place my object in her document and watch the text flow around the text wrapped graphic.
I read the help docs (I'm a big fan of reading).
The only thing I can think of is I've set my text box up wrong or I have no idea. I'm so frustrated I am seriously almost in tears.

Alrighty, this is bizarre. I couldn't leave well enough alone and I'm still trying to hammer this one out. But I just followed my first method described in the original message and then...
I clicked and dragged the edge of my graphic and the text began to flow around it and it moves with the text.
What on earth?
While I can do this for each image, I'd rather not. What am I still doing wrong, although I seem to have a half baked workaround.

Problem with text wrap on anchored objects

Hi, I'm using CS5 on a Macbook Pro OS 10.6.8
I'm laying out a multiple page biographies section of a conference program and I need to anchor the photo boxes to the beginning of each new bio. I made a photo box and assigned it the proper text wrap attributes. But when I copy and paste the photo box into the text, it sits on the line of type and the text is not wrapping properly at all. I've included a screen shot to illustrate the problem. I want it to wrap as shown in the right column. But what I get is what you see in the left column.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

But then I'd have to do that every time I place hundreds of these boxes, right? Instead I've created a style sheet for the paragraphs with with boxes to have a 6 line drop cap and that seems to be working. Probably a wierd work-around. I'm open to another more straightforward method of getting the anchored box to sit within the copy every time I paste it in.

Missing Invalid Format option with Spry TextField

I am inserting a Spry Validation Text Field into a form for an email address. The only options I have from the preview states menu in the property inspector are these: Initial, Required and Valid. There is no option for Invalid Format.
I am following along with an exercise in Dreamweaver CS5 Classroom In a Book Lesson 13.
I have worked back through the lesson in case I had missed something but nothing leaps out at me.
I would appreciate any assistance in tracking down the issue.

I've checked the samples.
The standard submit example validates the fields the XHR example does not.
I added the following code from the XHR sample
if (Spry.Widget.Form.validate('register') == true)
Spry.Utils.submitForm('register', registerResponse);
However Spry.Widget.Form.validate('register') always returns true regardless of the state of the Spry validation
Any more ideas to get the XHR submit to recognise the state of the Spry validation for the form

Date Format Mask with text only...

Hi!
I have a problem with my date text item: the format mask is set to YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS and it work perfectly if the user enter only numeric character, it will validate the date correctly. But if the user enter a value only alpha (something like 'uuuuyyyy') instead of validate with the mask format it will fire an error trigger ORA-06502.
I want to know if it's possible to check if the user has enter only alpha to bypass this problem.
Also, how can a check that a date field is null. I Try with : IF :BLOCK_NAME.DATE_ITEM IS NULL THEN ...
AND ALSO with IF TO_CHAR(:BLOCK_NAME.DATE_ITEM) IS NULL THEN... and nothings seems to work.

AFAIK, the only way to do this is to have two items. One is a hidden database item, type DATETIME, to hold the date value.
The other is a non-database character item, visible to the user. You populate it at POST-QUERY from the database field, and use an ON-VALIDATE-ITEM to copy any value entered/changed by the user over to the hidden field. If you're smart, you'll write a library procedure to do the on-validate stuff, passing it the names of the two items.
In that procedure, you can attempt to convert the entered text into a valid date using whatever date format(s) you like, only raising an error if you can't do it at all.

Text Wrap not working in Muse (CC 2014)

I'm attempting to wrap text around a slideshow. I have already inserted the slideshow in the text box, used the wrapping options to justify to the left, with the text running to the right and beneath the slideshow. In the design layout, it shows up perfectly. However, in the preview tab as well as previewing on the web, the wrapping does not show. The slideshow simply appears over the text, with the text running behind the slideshow. Any ideas on how to fix this problem or is it simply a bug that Adobe needs to eventually correct? Hard to tell from the screenshots. A couple nuances of text wrap that may be unexpected:
1) If you select an item with text wrap and move it up or down in Design view, that will move the item but will not change the area that is knocked out for text wrap purposes. Thus text can overlap on object that has text wrap applied if the item has been moved up or down while in the text flow.
2) Where an object is inserted in a flow is important. Generally it will provide the most predictable behavior if the graphic is inserted at the very start of a paragraph. If a graphic is inserted in the middle of a paragraph and text wrap is applied, exactly where the graphic will appear will be dependent on how the browser line breaks the text of the paragraph before where the graphic was inserted. A change in line breaks can result in the graphic appearing a line higher or lower in one browser versus another, since every browser has it's own text layout engine.
Assuming neither of the 2 points above fit what you're seeing, it's probably most expedient to send us the .muse file along with a link to this thread for context at [email protected] and a note to let us know where to find the problem situation within the file so we can see the exact situation and settings for what you're encountering. If the file is larger than 20Mb you'll want to send it using a service such as Adobe Send, WeTransfer, Dropbox, etc. Thanks.

Text Wrap disables vertical justification

I am using InDesign CS3 5.0.4 on Windows XP Pro SP3.
I have the following problem: I have a text frame with vertical centrered text in it. Now when I put some object with text wrap near it, the vertical justification is just ignored (also blanked out in text frame options) and the text justifies at the top of the text frame. I think this is very annoying and I don't understand why this works the way it does. I remember this problem also ocurred in QuarkXPress but I hoped Adobe would do it better :)

How near is near? If the object is too close to the text for comfort it's going to need text wrap or there'll be a
collision. And vertical justification will be lost.
Does the object span the full depth of the text frame? If so, just ignore text wrap, narrow the text frame and take its
edge away from the object. If the object cuts into the text frame so some lines are wrapped and others are not, then the
vertical justification will be lost.
You could fiddle it by eye by breaking the text into three frames, with the text in the top frame aligned to the bottom,
the text in the middle and bottom frame aligned to the top. Then align the text in all the frames to the same baseline
grid (you can set a grid for each frame), and jiggle the depths appropriately.

Text Wraps on Interactive Report

I created an APEX 4.1.1.00.23 application with some interactive reports. On the interactive reports I had a problem with text wrapping around so a string like this:
505 EAST 144TH STEEET
Would display as:
505 EAST
144TH
STREET
I corrected the problem with the following java script in the Execute When Page Loads page attribute:
$('td[headers="ADDRESS"]').attr("style","white-space:nowrap");
The user requested that the report break on two columns. I opened Actions>Format>Control Break, selected the columns, and saved the report. Now the java to format the address column does not seem to take effect. Before I applied the breaks the text would sometimes wrap and I could correct it by pressing the F5 key but this does not work anymore. How do I get the java script to take effect or otherwise correct the text wrapping problem?

With the control break the IR generates different mark-up, so you need to add another selector to the rules so there's a match on the column cells in both the standard and break report views.

Reports and flaky text wrapping

Hi There, we have a 10g pdf report running that does some strange things with text wrapping.
If a person were to enter a big long string of "UUUUUU" or "SSSSSSS" or "TTTTTTTTT" or "RRRRRRRR", they would break differently at the edge of the field. The "S"s break at the edge, which is good, the "R"s and "U"s break a little past the edge, which is not so good, and the "T"s break even farther out of the field.
Is this a known issue with Reports? Any suggestions on how to fix? We're stuck with the client's template, so changing the font isn't an option.

Instead of drawing boxes around the text fields, try right clicking on the text field and under the border tab choose single for all four sides and then export and see if that works for you. Just a thought.

Frame doesn't slide with text

I have a WP document that contains a spreadsheet frame. The problem is when I add text to the document, the text starts to scroll under the frame, forcing me to constantly rearrange the document. I know I can paste the frame at the insertion point, but then the spreadsheet frame is not editable. Is there a way around this?

AppleWorks has two classes of 'objects', inline objects and floating objects.
Inline objects, as you've noted, are treated as if they were a (large) single character in the line of text, and maintain their position with respect to the text—as text is added above them, they are pushed down the page.
Floating objects float in front of (or behind) the text, and keep the same position with respect to the top left corner of (the front page of) the document. They move only when you move them.
A floating object may have the property Text Wrap applied to it. With Text Wrap applied, text no longer flows under the object, but is diverted around it. To apply Text Wrap, select the object (in your case the spreadsheet frame), then go Options > Text Wrap..., and choose Regular, then click Apply.
Hint: Position the object toward the left or right edge of the page to keep all text beside the object on the same side.
Hint2: Text in a Text Frame will not wrap unless the frame has Frame Links applied. (Options menu again)

I achieved the URL link in SBWP using <a> anchor tag in task description as
<x href="&LINK1&">test</x>
Note : replace 'X' by a
LINK1 is a container element which has the iniital value as http://www.google.co.in/
In SOST the link appears as test and when i click on it , it directly opens the google window.
But the same is not appearing in the Outlook mail.I have seen some of the existng forums but could not find the answer
for this.If anyone has resolved this issue please share.
