*** Formatting problems converting for AppleTV

I've converted for AppleTV many times in the past with no problem but I'm experiencing a big problem now.
1. When exporting a full quality QT (self-contained) file from Final Cut Pro and then encoding for AppleTV from that QT file, the result is an AppleTV converted file that has noticeable interlacing. We shoot HDV (1080i). In the past this has not been an issue.
2. I tried exporting for AppleTV directly from the Final Cut Pro timeline and the resulting AppleTV encode is 4:3!!!!! What?
Are there some good 'ole preferences I should be trashing? The interlacing and text quality I'm currently getting just isn't acceptable.
Thanks in advance!

Have the same issue with DV through imovie, I know it's different circumstances but it's the same issue, I'm in the UK and wonder if my problem is because of regional differences in field dominance, you don't say where you are from. Any way my workaround is to take the full quality export from imovie and push it through streamclip to do the de-interlacing and the AVC conversion.,

  • Unable to Convert for AppleTV

I have some .mov files that I am unable to put on my AppleTV because iTunes will not let me change them. I receive a message "could not be converted because this file does not allow saving or conversion." I also tried to do this using Quicktime, though the options are greyed out. Is there another way to do this?

If you can tell us what these compression codecs are it might give an indication as to why you're having issues.
If you google Techspansion or iSquint try the free iSquint converter designed for video iPods with your .mov file. If it can convert it to an iPod compatible format(also AppleTV compatible file but lower resolution) then you're in with a chance of doing the conversion somehow - if it can't handle it then the .mov may be protected against conversion in some way. The programs I listed are freeware video file converters for Mac, that can be quite handy. Lots of people like the commercial version of iSquint called VisualHub as it's an easy to use program. The others are a bit more involved in terms of settings, but I find MPEGStreamclip to be extremely useful tool. Quicktime/QT Pro don't do everything and some of these other apps come in handy (or are faster!).

  • Movies converted for AppleTV won't sync to 2nd gen iPod touch with iTunes 8

I have about 40 movies that I converted to "Apple TV" format with Quicktime Pro. They all play fine on my Apple TV. But only one of them will sync with my new 2nd gen iPod touch... and that one was converted by someone else for me to Apple TV with iSquint!
iTunes tells me the remaining videos cannot be played on this iPod. ***? They play in iTunes, they play on the Apple TV... what's the difference with the iPod?
So now I'm having to completely reconvert all my movies to iPod format with the function in iTunes 8 "Create iPod or iPhone version" but this is PAINFULLY SLOW!!! One video on my brand new 3.06Ghz iMac Intel Core 2 Duo took FOUR HOURS
Anyone else having this problem? Anyone else find a faster way to fix it???
    HELP!!

    It just does.
You can do it quicker using other tools.
For instance I have a hardware device called Turbo.264 which shifts the conversion off the computer and is much quicker.
You can read all about it here :-

  • Converting for AppleTV

    hello,
I extracted some SD-Videoclips (using MPEG streamclip) from a DVD (authored with iDVD some years ago). The extracted clips are QT-movies with a frame size of 768x576 (Codec Motion JPEG A, Integer, Big Endian). Framerate is around 30.
Using Compressor I converted these clips into mp4 with a frame size of 720x540 and 25fps. (Codec MPEG-4 Video, AAC, MPEG-4 SDSM, MPEG-4 ODSM, Hint)
But the resulting clips are not playable on AppleTV.
    What is my mistake?

Review this technical note from apple:
    http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/technotes/tn2007/tn2188.html
If you prefer to encode using customized settings, use the MPEG-4 Export Component located in the QT7 Export Dialog:

  • Can iTunes video format be converted for use with other media players?

    Besides iTunes and Quicktime?

    Pauls43:
Please start your own topic with your question.  You posted in a dormant topic that has seen no activity in over 3 years. Your question has nothing to do with the original poster's (OP) topic, and out of consideration to the topic's originator we try focus on their question and to not drift off-topic.  You will get speedier and more targeted assistance for your needs if you post a new topic in the iPhoto forum.  This will also activate the feature which lets you award stars for helpful answers which can be an encouragement to some to reply.
I can say this to your question, playing photos on a DVD player will not be easy unless the player comes with media playing capabilities which many do these days.  Then it is a matter of copying the files to a DVD and you reading your player's manual to see how this is done.  If you are trying to make a standard movie-style DVD it requires special authoring software.  Apple no longer sells iDVD and there's really no low-cost equivalent.  You can try the free application "Burn" but be prepared for something that has quite a learning curve.

  • I've been giving HD videos in MTS format and convert the for editing in FCE.  Looks good in the program, but when I export the finished film, quality had been noticeable diminished.  Is there any way to prevent FCE from lowering the output quality?

    Hello -
I've been sent HD footage in MTS format and converted it to Mp4 for editing in FCE.  It looks good in FCE but when I export the movie, the quality is noticably diminished.   Is there any way I can prevent FCE from lowering the quality on export?
    Thanks.

    >I use Foxreal video converter for Mac to convert the MTS using the Apple intermediate codec setting and the problem is that I don't get image, just audio
My thought would be to NOT use Foxreal video converter.
    Use MPEG Streamclip or Clipwrap.

  • What is the best format to choose when converting mts files to fit well with iMovie? I am using iCoolsoft for conversions and can pick from almost any kind of formats to convert to. I don't want to get the black frames... what do you advice me to pick?

I have lots of MTS files stored on an external hard drive that I want to use in my iMovie films. Now, as you know, iMovie doesn't like them. I have bought iCoolsoft for converting my video files into any format I want but now I've got another problem: what format is the best for iMove? Some of the formats I've tried are giving me a black frame around the video clips and some are bigger and other smaller but anyway I don't want them at all! Can anyone recommend what format to convert to to keep the original clip's size and no frames and still be liked by iMovie to be able to import them?
Much thankful for any kind of support and reply on this one.
    Eva

The format iMovie uses when you edit video after it's imported is Apple Intermediate Codec, it will have the file ending .mov but internally it's set so the Mac can edit individual frames easier and play them back easier at full speed. If you have the option of saving to QuickTime .mov see if there is a pulldown list of all the different "codecs", that's the style or flavor of compression applied to the video frames. If Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC) appears on that pull-down list choose that as your codec when you save to .mov.

  • Whats the best/fastest format to convert avchd to, for edit purposes?

Whats best format to convert 1920/1080 avchd to, for editing purposes?
I tryed converting to HDV but didnt like the quality. I then tryed to convert the raw avchd files to mpeg2 @ 35 mbps. That is much cleaner but renders slow...about 1-1 ratio.
Looking for a codec that is fast to convert to & clean.
I have aPC, Win 7,  6 core, 32 gig ram,Raid 0,  fast cuda card ect...

AVCHD has the same data rate as DV, so shuttling that fast will not be a disk problem, even from a single drive, let alone a RAID 0.  If it stutters, it's a CPU thing.
Conversion to any other format is going to expand the data rate significantly, requiring your RAID to work harder.  Though the CPU will likely work less, so that could fix the stuttering.
You can always add all the clips to a sequence, and then add that sequence to the Source Monitor for editing as if it were one long clip.
Having said all that, if you still feel the need to convert then I recommend the free and lossless UT codec.  You can export out the combined clips right from PP, and the new media will not suffer any quality loss due to conversion.

  • Convert Web Page to PDF formatting problem - 1st line of each paragraph outdented

    Hi Folks,
I get a formatting problem when I convert any web page to PDF using the 'Convert Web Page to PDF' option - the 1st line of each paragraph is outdented.
eg if i convert http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/whats-new-acrobat-xi.html I get this:
I get the same problem using IE 9, Chrome (latest) or Firefox 30.0. I don't get it converting a Word doc to PDF.
I'm using Adobe Acrobat XI Pro on a PC running Windows 7.
Is there a simple setting somewhere I am missing?
    Any help much appreciated!

Are you using "Adobe PDF" or "PDF or XPS?" I sounds like "Adobe PDF," but trying to be sure. Have you updated your Acrobat to the latest version? If not, try that.

  • Whatsnew page for 3.6.17 has formatting problems with Firefox and I.E.

I just updated from 3.6.16 to 3.6.17n and the whatsnew page, displayed after Firefox restarted, has formatting problems in the lower right hand corner.
I checked it with I.E. 8 and it also shows the formatting problem.
Why wasn't this caught before the page was put into "production"?
    The URL is http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.6.17/whatsnew/
There is a line with the text "Release Notes » Firefox Features » Firefox Help »" that is being displayed on top of other material.
I wonder what a new Firefox user or an inexperienced user would think of this? They might think that they did something wrong or, worse, they might consider Firefox had problems and they won't use it.
    This reflects badly on Firefox.
One more thing, could someone make this textarea taller and wider. It is so small as to cause problems typing and proofing the material.
    The URL is https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/new?product=desktop&category=d6&search=whatsnew+page+for+3.6.17+has+formatting+problems+with+Firefox+and+I.E.&showform=1
How about upping the cols and rows values? They are currently rows="10" cols="40"

As you have a Power Mac you also have a alternative option to consider which is a third-party build from http://tenfourfox.blogspot.com/2011/08/601-now-available.html

  • Best format to convert Ultra HD Flip Camera file for FCP editing?

We are using two types of cameras for a video project and one of them is a Flip Camera. Unfortunately, FCP doesn't play too nice with raw flip camera files so I need to convert said file using MPEG Streamclip. What is the best/recommended format to convert the movie file to for FCP editing?
    Thanks!

From my experience, Pro Res 422 has been the most recommended for any conversion. Thanks!
Should I look for a specific audio compression option or should I just leave it as "uncompressed"?

  • Problems upgrading raw converter for cs6

I have a cs6 license and recently had an update applied to the raw converted to handle my sony a7s.  I also wanted to upgrade the raw converted for my cs6 version on an mac I use at a second home.  It did do an upgrade but not high enough to deal with the new camera.
I'm on a mac mini running osx 10.6.8.  When I try to open a sony arw file in camera raw if gives a dialog box indicating it can't open the file and gives a link to a spread sheet showing the minimum version of camera raw of 8.5 to open the a7s arw file.  If I look at the version of camera raw I'm using I get 7.0.0.308.  To do an update for the raw converter while I am in bridge I go to help and use the update item.  I did an update to 7.0.0.308 when I originally ran the update option but hat is obviously not high enough to deal with the sony arw files.  I basically did the same thing on my main computer and had no problem.
    Any ideas?

Here is an installer for camera raw 8.3, so at least you'll have the newest version that mac os x 10.6.8 supports.
    http://swupdl.adobe.com/updates/oobe/aam20/mac/PhotoshopCameraRaw7-7.0/8.3.52/setup.dmg
If the above doesn't work, you can try a manual install by following the instructions in the following adobe kb.

  • Deinterlacing PAL DV via Jes Deinterlacer for AppleTV...

    Hi all,
I am trying to deinterlace some PAL DV that is widescreen. The problem I have is that the movie export "should" be 1040 x 576 in the final output. If I export for AppleTV direct from Imovie HD that is exactly what I get. However, I'd like to try deinterlacing by using Jes deinterlacer as the results i've seen seem better than via iMovie. If I export the same file from Jes using the AppleTV preset in Jes Deinterlacer, the final exported file is squashed down to 767 x 576. I know that if I then open the file in quicktime and choose to adjust the display settings, the file will then display in widescreen by honoring the anamorphic settings, but the problem with this is that neither Itunes nor AppleTV seem to understand this and display the movie squashed.... I've also tried exporting via the h.264 option and setting the output at 1040 x 576, this also results in a squashed file. I have also played with the anamorphic settings in Jes but seem to be unable to get a true 1040 x 576 export like I can get from iMovie directly. I'd love to get this working in Jes as the deinterlacing by Jes is soooo much better than the results I am getting from iMovie.
    Many thanks for any advice.
    Regards,
    Steve

I exported the clip as a full quality clip from iMovie5 (had to go back to it after audio trouble importing from my HDR-HC1). I get a .mov file and then use that as an input file for JES. The 'converted' file is a .mov.proj.dv file which looks like a squashed 16:9 in 4:3 window in QT. I tried importing it back into iMovie and it imports as a 4:3 with black side bars - no letterboxing. The project I am working on is a 16:9 HD format.
I havent tried any other exporting yet as I'm fairly sure if they look that way in QT and imovie then that's probably how they are.
I do notice that when I make all the settings in JES, as I outlined in my question post, once I change the aspect ratio to 16:9 and then close that window and open it again, the setting seems to have defaulted back to 4:3. I tried it several times... (Ver 2.7.3 - I think that's the latest)
    I really appreciate any advice.
