Forms 4.5 Migration to Oracle Forms 10g

Hi All,
I want to know abt migration steps i.e. i 'm doing migration of Oracle Forms 4.5 to Oracle Forms 10g. Then existing forms is on Windows NT based environment and the database is Oracle 8.
What is the better way to approach this issue? Whether, directly open the existing Forms into Oracle Forms 10g or first open the form into Forms 6i and then after 10g?
Tell me the System Specification.... Database version.... Which Application Server is suitable.... And whether the Oracle 9i database possible for Forms 10g or not.
Pls Give me solution.
Thanks

4.5 to 10g (strictly speaking is not supported) but should work ok - Generally speaking you just open your Forms in the 10g builder and compile. You should check out otn.oracle.com/formsupgrade which gives you some good pointers including the Forms built-in procedures that have be desupported and removed from the product.
4.5 -> 6i -> 10g was the supported route (but even 6i is desupported now).

10g or not.OAS 10gR2, DB 9i is good.

  • How to do Oracle Forms 4.5 migration to Oracle Forms 10g

    Hi All !
I will start a process in order to migrate our currently Forms/Reports 4.5 application to Oracle 10g (Forms/Reports 10g). I need to know in order to begin this process.
For example: What Oracle Application Server my customers needs to buy ? and about licenses that they need to have ? What are the Basic Steps to follow? And Related Information.
    HELP me.
    Thank you

It is a Migration to 6i, then to 10g or 11g. This will take you about 1-1.5 days per form Manually (Migration Assistant is used to help on the 6i to 10g/11g portion). There is a lot of changes that need to be considered, and this is a very daunting task, especially from 4.5. You need to change all of the Forms from Character Mode to Real for one. There are are over 160 statements that have either changed or have been de-supported (This means won't work now, not like the 3.0 commands that worked through 9i).
There is a tool that my company offers that can do the 4.5 -> 10g/11g Upgrade is as little as 5 days (No matter how many forms/reports you have). I don't mean to advertise, but it is the only thing on the market that does this. www.pitssamerica.com is the site and PITSS.con is the tool. Look at this.

  • Migration from Oracle Forms to HTML DB ?

    Dear all,
is there a tool allowing to migrate from Oracle Forms to HTML DB ?
    Thanks.
    Best Regards.
    Marcello.

    Hello.
    Thanks for your response.
    Here is the motivation.
We have still applications developped with Oracle Forms 6i (old version no more supported). We are investigating for doing the migration with a limited expense to Oracle Forms 10g or HtmlDB.
    Another questions are :
Is it possible to migrate from Oracle 6i to Oracle Forms 10g ?
Oracle Forms will still exists ? until when ?
    Many thanks for your cooperation.
    Best Regards.

  • Migration from oracle forms to SOA

    Hello everybody,
I work in a company that develops a product for financial institutes. we have the product developed using oracle forms, and we want to migrate it to an SOA environnement but i have some questions that i'd be happy if someone answered to them.
1- We want to use oracle soa suite for the migration, in this case should a client, who will buy the application, buy oracle SOA suite. if this is the case, what are the minimum components of oracle soa suite a client should buy.
2- Can we implement a service oriented architecture without using an ESB??
3- What steps could we follow to migrate from oracle forms to oracle SOA suite.
    thanks

From my knowledge acquainted through White papers - This is what I think - Even I am in the process of understanding and learning SOA enablement technologies,
Migrating from Forms world to SOA - If there is a real need to migrate the solution to latest technologies then we have to capture the forms logic to redesign in ADF of the Fusion Middleware techstack but if the business need currently works well with the forms based application and we have other system which need integration with this forms based system - You can definetly keep all the hetrogenous systems and architect using SOA to talk to each other - For this it would beneficial to use ESB and BPEL (ESB - To primarily serve as a communication medium between the hetrogenous systems and BPEL to overall orchestrate the process from end to end)
In this way you have all the disparate systems communicating and business running smooth through a SOA based process and in the mean time you start on the reverse engineering process of all the individual systems to migrate to the latest technologies (If there is a business need for the technology shift)
It would be really beneficial to you if you spend some time reading about the SOA and more than technology what exactly is the underlying goal of SOA and then understand what are all the various components of SOA to govern this architecture such as ESB, BPEL, BAM, Rules etc..,
    Thanks

  • Migrating from Oracle forms 4.5 to 9i

Please tell me if i can directly migrate from forms 4.5 to 9i?
If i migrate first to 6 and then to 9i when do i web enable my form?
What are the steps should i follow for migration from Oracle forms 4.5 to 9i?

Strictly speaking we only certify the upgrade from 6i to 9i, however, the technical details of going from 4.5 directly to 9i are the same and in many cases should work as going from 6i to 9i.

Are you currently deployed on the web or as c/s. Generally speaking for upgrading Forms its a case of open in the builder, regenerate and run. For c/s to web there may be some extra steps to do but generally speaking most Forms will run out of the box.
    CHeck out otn.oracle.com/formsupgrade
There is also a batch option to help you and there are of course Oracle partners who can help as well.

  • Migration from Oracle Forms to Oracle Apex 3.2

Hi I am learning Apex, I mainly work in Oracle developer. I have converted one Oracle form into Oracle Apex. the migrated Form appears on the screen, works, but not as I like it to be. All the triggers are migrated into Apex but they don't work as they did in Oracle Form. I cant make the form work as it should be. please help.

Triggers in forms will NOT work EXACTLY like they do in Forms, that is the nature of the beast.. APEX runs under a browser and you are running with html events to trap on..
Suggestion, the Forms conversion tools converts only so much, you will have to do some work to get what you want. Also, I would suggest re-evaluating your application, since it was probably a client server based application, moving it to the web will involve some re-engineering..

  • Attach Forms With Comm Port in Oracle Forms

I am trying to make connection of Oracle forms Builder with my device using comm port but i dnt know the complete procedure to attach the comm with oracle forms also i have no idea to convert asquii data to normal form. Please any one help me to attach comm port with my oracle forms and also convert asqui code which is showing on hyper terminal into normal data. Also I am using oracle forms 6i

Make a java component (PJC) and use a rxtx library (http://rxtx.qbang.org/wiki/index.php/Examples) ...
I have made a PJC to use a RS232 port from oracle forms for Hypercom POS terminal..
Here is my code (in short i will post a component on PJC site (here I can't post a complete code because of 30000 char limit ;) )..
If you look in method "public void init(IHandler handler) " I make a download of rxtxSerial.dll from my forms server and then I call System.loadLibrary("rxtxSerial");"
In other way you must put the dll in windows/system32 path.. This dll is native library for rs232 communication.
If you look at the method "public void doTransaction" you can see the initialization of comm port...
With inputStream and OutputStream you read and write datas to/from your rs232 port..
p.s: the code is not complete but you can see how I made the rs232 communication (also the code is not final ;) )

  • From Forms Product Management - Success of Oracle Forms

The Forms Product Management team are pleased to announce we have posted a new paper on OTN which tells you
about the success of Oracle Forms.
If you want to find out who is using Forms, the kind of applications that are best targetted by Forms, and what is the future
of Oracle Forms then please go to:
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/forms/htdocs/Forms_Success/forms_success.html
As, always, we welcome your feedback.
    Regards

    Forms Product Management

Oracle Forms is quit impressive as both a client/server and web-based solution. I have yet to see an application run over the web the way Oracle Forms does. It appears as a client/server application, except it's completely web-based.
That's quite amazing, however, I have found that the rich interface and the sophistication of running Forms over the web comes with a big cost. The 8MB Jinitiator download turns a lot of people off.
What I'm really wondering is if there is anyone out there who is using Oracle Forms as a web solution ?
    Thanks for your time.
    Best Regards,
    Bob Mazzo

  • Migrating an Oracle Forms 4.5 application from Windows Server 2000 to 2003

We are upgrading a number of servers from Windows Server 2000 to Windows Server 2003 (Standard Edition, R2). Can we re-install Forms 4.5 on 2003 and what is involved. If not, what can we do.
    Kind regards,
    Malcolm

Forms 4.5 has been desupported way before Windows 2003 was ever available. So, you can be sure that Forms 4.5 is not supported on Windows 2003. You could give it a try, but you could very well run into problems.

  • Migrating Oracle forms and reports from 6i to 10g Application server on Uni

    HI Guys,
We are migrating from Oracle forms and reports 6i to 10g.
We will be having application server on Unix box.
I understand following will be the changes i will have to do in this respect -
    1. Fonts are to be revisited only Java fonts are supported.
    2. Obsolete items, function calls, triggers are to be removed.
My question is since this application can be cross platform application,
Can anyone provide me with changes that I will have to do with configuration files like -
    1. Formsweb.cfg,
    2. forms.conf
    3. default.env
    4. registry.dat
Keeping in mind that the application server will be on unix box.
    Thanks,
    Av.

Java fonts are only supported for the Forms version.
You can use your own fonts for Reports however, there is some legwork to do this. I know because I just went through it.
If you will only being using the PDF output (which for me replaced the Preview mode that existed in 6i), then you have to install the TTF for the missing font, an AFM (use the ttf2pt1 utility to generate the AFM file, but make sure you remove the AFM extension when moving it to Unix). You'll want to use the PDF Subset in the uifont.ali (which exists under the ORACLE_HOME/guicommon/tk/admin directory and add the line underneath the PDF Subset "Font Family Name"="TTF Font Name" The font family name is found when you open the AFM file in textpad or wordpad for the font you generated. This is what you enter. The TTF Font Name is the name the TTF font. You'll have to restart Reports Server after this.
If printing to the printer directly is an option you must have, I will tell you it does not work in Linux right now. You can print to the printer but if the font doesn't exist on the internal memory of the printer, it won't work. There are 3rd party utilities like ORARRP and PDFPrint that can take care of this but, each has its own limitations. The one thing I found with ORARRP is if you generate a Report with an RRPA file extension and open it on Windows, it works great, the printer dialog comes up asking you what printer you want to print too. However, if you call this in Linux/Unix with the filename, it brings it up in the web browser but doesn't prompt you for your printer to print too automatically. So, for me, it's a show stopper. My only other option is to install the fonts on the printer that are missing.
As for the files you want to change, you'll obviously have to make changes to the formsweb.cfg, default.env, forms.conf. I have to modify the reports.sh for some PL/SQL attached libraries to make sure it picks them up. I did have to modify Registry.dat.
There is alot of work but mainly forms wasn't too bad, unless you had fonts that weren't supported. Usually there is another font that you can use to replace the old one but you have to know which fonts exists on the server and try all the keys on the keyboard to find the corresponding keystroke.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to Migrate Oracle Forms 4.5 to Forms 10g

    Hi All,
I want to know abt migration steps i.e. i 'm doing migration of Oracle Forms 4.5 to Oracle Forms 10g. Then existing forms is on Windows xx and the database is Oracle 8.
    Thanks.

For Forms Upgrade information I would firstly checkout the Forms Upgrade Center. If you don't find your answer there I would post your question to the Forms
