Formulas and Columns

Say you have a list of hours in column A, and a list of hourly rates in column B. Is there a way to make all of the cells in column C equal to the product of the cells in A and B for the corresponding row? +Cx = PRODUCT(Ax,Bx)+, but not have to enter this for every cell in C. Can formulas be generalized down columns this way?
Thanks.

Hi dr.k,
Yes.
You'll find details on this in the article "Autofilling Table Cells," in Chapter 4, _Working with Table Cells_ of the Numbers '09 User Guide, starting on p. 78.
The guide is available as a searchable pdf document through the Help menu in Numbers.

  • Excel layouts: Usage of excel formulas and column references

    Hi!
I have a question on how BPS excel based layouts work:
    - Can you enter your own formulas (e.g =SUM) in an cell which will be saved in a cube?
    - Can a cell to save in a cube contain a reference to another cell in another worksheet?
    Points will be given.
    Regards,
    Christian

    Christian,
           To answer your questions,
      - Can you enter your own formulas (e.g =SUM) in an cell which will be saved in a cube?
Yes you can enter your own formula and calculate the
value. Its only value that is saved into the Cube not
the formula. So when you retrieve that value from the
cube, you wouldn't be able to see the formula.I am
assuming that you are trying this in data columns,
where you would normally enter the values to save
into the cube.If you do it anywhere else other than
the data columns, you will not be able to save
anything in this cell to the cube.
    - Can a cell to save in a cube contain a reference to another cell in another worksheet?
As we can't save any formulas and link in a
particular cell into the cube, its not possible
to do it from an excel cell perspective. But I have
used exit function that refer particular cell(s)
and used it for data manipulation/linking dynamically
I did this only on GUI, not on web.It was very
        custom routine.
    Hope this helps.

  • Row and Column Formulas on a Data Form

I am creating a data form which has both row and column formulas. I would like the row formulas to show for some of the cells but it seems to default to the column formula.

  • Formulas results outside of row and column axis

The report has an area of row axis and column axis. This area is where the results from BW are displayed.
We have a requirement where we would have to create formulas using the BW Analyzer results of the row axis and column axis and display the results after the last row of this area.
For example, after the BW Analyzer displays the result area to the Excel, we are required to take Excel Cell D10 * C7 and put the results to B33.
    <b>B33 = D10*C11</b>
Excel row 30 is the last row from the row axis result area.
I have searched through the forum for Cell Editor, but it seems that the requirement is to use 2 structures and use Cell Editor only when there is a formula collision. Our requirement has 1 structure, but I guess we can create the other structure for the column axis results. But still I think Cell Editor is a computation of formula collision within the row and column axis result area.
My question is will Cell Editor meet our requirement if we want to get formula results from the row and column axis and then display the results outside of the row and column axis result area?
Our approach was to use the Excel cell formulas in the workbook or possibly macros, but it seems that the Excel formulas will do.
Would someone clarify about the Cell editor for this requirement and how would you approach this?
Would this be effective to do the formulas from the query level? We are working on 3.5 SP11.

Can Cell editor do the following:
    1. Create structures
    2. Run the query
    3. The results of the structures are displayed in the row and column axis of the BEx Analyzer
    4. Save as a workbook
    5. Use the Cell Editor to pick and choose the cells (Not the Excel cells) to create formulas
    6. The formula results are then displayed outside of the row and column axis.
    Would this be another approach?
What scenario can Cell editor be used? What scenario can Cell editor not be used?
    Thanks

  • Difference between aggregation rule and column formula in edit formula

Anybody please help what is the use of aggregation rule and column formula in edit column option.
What is the difference if I apply sum in aggregation rule with apply sum(column name) in column formula.
When do I need use which one.
    Thanks in advance

When you build a column in the rpd, you have the option of determining if the column should be aggregated in some way or not. For dimension columns, you wouldn't put aggregation. For say, an accoun ledger balance column, you might put the aggregation SUM or AVERAGE. Whatever aggregation you put on this column will be the "default" aggregation of the column in Answers.
So in Answerrs, if you use the Account Ledger Balance column and you only have Region as the dimension, OBIEE will aggregate or SUM the ledger balances so you have a SUM for the region level. If you had district, than the ledger balance column will aggregate to the district level. This is a convenient way to build reports without having to specify what the aggregation should be.
However, OBIEE gives you the ability to override what the default aggregation is for a particular column. This is the purpose of the drop down in the bottom left of a column when you click the fx button.
Say the default aggregation of ledger balance is SUM in the rpd, but for the report you are building, you want the average, you can apply the AVERAGE function in the fx window and it will overridge the SUM aggregation rule that was in the rpd.
    Got it?

  • Question regarding Dashboard and column prompt

My question regarding Dashboard and column prompt:
    1) Dashboard prompt usually work with only for columns which are in subject area. In my report I've created some of the columns which are based on other columns. Like I've daysNumber column that is based on two other columns, as it calculates the difference of two dates. When I create dashboard prompt I can't find this column there. I need to make a prompt on this column.
2)For one of the column I've only two values 1 and 0. When I create prompt for this column, is it possible that in drop down list It shows 'Yes' for 1 and 'No' for 0 and still filter the request??

    Hi Toony,...
I think there was another way of doing this...
In the dashboard prompt go to Show option > select SQL Results from dropdown.
There you need to write your Logical SQL like...
SELECT CASE WHEN 1=0 THEN PERIODS.YEAR ELSE difference of date functionality END FROM SubjectAreaName
Here.. Periods.Year is the column which is already exists in repository's presentation layer..
and difference of date functionality is the code or formula of column which you want to show in drop-down...
Also write the CASE WHEN 1=0 THEN PERIODS.YEAR ELSE difference of date functionality END code in fx of that prompt.
I think it helps you in doing this..
Just check and inform me if it works...

  • ASO MDX member formula and performance

    Hi,
I am doing some testing about MDX formulas and performance. I found a performance issue but I can not understand why is taking so long time a report.
    The situation is:
I create a report or a MDX query with:
6 dimensions in row and 1 dimension in column
    rows:
Period - Filtered using a member
Year - Filtered using a member
Relationship Manager - Filtered using a member
Report Type - Filtered using a member
Local Relationship Manager - 4400 members level 0
Global Relationship Manager - 10400 members level 0
    Column:
    Account dimension, only a member
The member selected for Report Type (RM.Local) has a formula
My Report Type dimension has 10 members, there is one member where I store data called : RM.Input
    My first test was
RM.Local his formula is [RM.Input] , the report is run in 1 second
RM.Local his formula is ([RM.Input],[MTD]) where MTD is a member level 0 store in my view dimension. The report run in 20 minutes. I was not expecting so bad performance when I only pointing at [RM.Input],[MTD]
Do you consider this time is reasonable when I am using this formula?
    The mdx report is:
    With
set [_Local Relationship Manager3] as 'Descendants([All Local Relationship Managers], 2)' = level 0 members
set [_Global Relationship Manager4] as '[Global Relationship Manager].Generations(4).members' = level 0 members
    set [_Period0] as '{[Period].[Oct]}'
    set [_Relationship Manager4] as '{[Relationship Manager].[Dummy1)]}'
    set [_Report Type0] as '{[Report Type].[RM.Local]}'
    set [_Year2] as '{[Year].[FY-2013]}'
    select
    { [Account].[Expenses]
    } on columns,
    NON EMPTY {crossjoin({[_Local Relationship Manager3]},crossjoin({[_Global Relationship Manager4]},crossjoin({[_Period0]},crossjoin({[_Relationship Manager4]},crossjoin({[_Report Type0]},{[_Year2]})))))} properties MEMBER_NAME, GEN_NUMBER, [Global Relationship Manager].[MEMBER_UNIQUE_NAME], [Global Relationship Manager].[Memnor], [Local Relationship Manager].[MEMBER_UNIQUE_NAME], [Local Relationship Manager].[Memnor], [Relationship Manager].[MEMBER_UNIQUE_NAME], [Relationship Manager].[Memnor], [Period].[Default], [Report Type].[Default], [Year].[MEMBER_UNIQUE_NAME], [Year].[Memnor] on rows
    from [DICISRM.DICISRM]

    Ok Try this one
But here you have to change the MDX formula every month.
    Year
    --FY2009
    --FY2010
    --FY2011
    --FY2012
    Period
    --TotalYear
    ----Qtr1
    -------Jan
    -------Feb
    -------Mar
Let say if you're CurrentYear  is FY2011 and you're Current Month is March then you're MDX will be
    case when contains([Year].CurrentMember,MemberRange([FY2009],[FY2010])) and contains([Period].CurrentMember,MemberRange([Jan],[Feb]))
    Then
    B
    else
    C
    end
For the Next month you just have to make a change in the MemberRange I.e.,(Replace Feb with Mar)
    *case when contains([Year].CurrentMember,MemberRange([FY2009],[FY2010])) and contains([Period].CurrentMember,MemberRange([Jan],[Mar]))*
    Then
    B
    else
    C
    end
I tested it and Its working fine.
I think this will solve you're problem but there might be a more elegant solution out there.
    Regards,
    RSG

data with the number on the left and the fields going to the right. Is it
possible to switch a table in this way?
It sounds to me as though you wish to transpose a table so that the original is changed from rows to columns and from columns to rows, as in the following:
    Table 1
        A   B   C
    ========
    1   o   p   q
    2   r   s   t
    3   u   v   w
    Table 2
        A   B   C
    ========
    1   o   r   u
    2   p   s   v
    3   q   t   w
You are right - it would be nice to have a menu item to magically transpose a selected block of cells. But there isn't one. So...
One way to solve this is to use the index() and transpose() functions to accomplish row and column cell transposition. If you are going to use a 1:1 cell correspondence and change the header columns and rows also, you can use this:
       =INDEX(TRANSPOSE(Table # :: <range>),ROW(),COLUMN())
where Table # and <range> is substituted as in the following fashion:
       =INDEX(TRANSPOSE(Table 1 :: $A$1:$C$3),ROW(),COLUMN())
Create a second table. Copy the modified formula above with the appropriate substitutions, select the range you wish to have your transposition inserted into (must match the transposed cell dimensions of the original range), paste the forumula and voila! the cells will be transposed.
    Cautions:
o The target table must match the swapped cell length and width dimension. For example, if the original data range is 6 columns wide by 4 rows deep, then the corresponding table or range to hold the transposition must be 4 columns wide by 6 rows deep.
o If your transposed data block is to be offset from the origin of the new table, then you will need to include a subtractive offset into your cell formula, since in the transpose() function the data in the master data range is referenced from its position with the master range, not its cell position in the table. Such an offset is necessary because this example formula uses the target row and column numbers to arrive at indexed positions.
For example, if the new data range is to be offset one column to the right and one row below from the target table's origin then you must subtract (-1) from the cell and from the column references in the formula:
      Example:
      =INDEX(TRANSPOSE(Table 3 :: $B$2:$D$4),ROW()-1,COLUMN()-1)
If someone has a better solution I'd be glad to hear of it.

  • Hi, how can i break the value for a row and column once i have converted the image to the array???????

Hi, I would like to know how can i break the value for a row and column once i have converted the image to the array. I wanted to make some modification on the element of the array at a certain position. how can i do that?
At the moment (as per attachhment), the value of the new row and column will be inserted by the user. But now, I want to do some coding that will automatically insert the new value of the row and the column ( I will use the formula node for the programming). But the question now, I don't know how to split the row and the column. Is it the value of i in the 'for loop'? I've  tried to link the 'i' to the input of the 'replace subset array icon' , but i'm unable to do it as i got some error.
    Please help me!
For your information, I'm using LABView 7.0.

    Hi,
Thanks for your reply.Sorry for the confusion.
I manage to change the array element by changing the row and column value. But, what i want is to allow the program to change the array element at a specified row and column value, where the new value is generated automatically by the program.
Atatched is the diagram. I've detailed out the program . you may refer to the comments in the formula node. There are 2 arrays going into the loop. If a >3, then the program will switch to b, where if b =0, then the program will check on the value of the next element which is in the same row with b but in the next column. But if b =45, another set of checking will be done at a dufferent value of row and column.
I hope that I have made the problem clear. Sorry if it is still confusing.
Hope you can help me. Thank you!!!!

  • Displaying the Row and Column number in the report

I am trying to show row and column number in the report (not just web preview). I am using Hyperion Reports Version 7.2.5.168

use a formula column/row. use RANK function in that. (e.g. Rank([A], asc) will sort the rows based on column A values in ascending order)
you can use this rank in your heading.
But frankly this is not so easy. You have to do it in a very intelligent way, so that rank gives you column number/row number any how.
Have a try and let see if you find a appropriate solution.

  • Report with multiple dimensions in Row and Column with EvEXP

    Hi
We are currently running BPC 7.0 SP3 and try to create the report(or schedule) with more 2 x 2 dimensions in the row and column.
    e.g.
row dimension : Outer row is Entity, Inner row is Account
column dimension : Outer column is Time, Inner row is Category
We created the report with  2 x 2 dimensions like above e.g. with EvEXP and EvNXP, NOT EvDRE
based on default dynamic template:Template13.xlt(Nested Row, 2 x 1 dimensions defined by EvEXP and EvNXP formula).
However, when expanding the dimension with double click these dimensions or change CV of the report with  2 x 2 dimensions defined by EvEXP and EvNXP formula,
error occurs on EvEXP and EvNXP formula and can't retrieve the result correctly.
    [Question]
Can't we create the report with more 2 x 2 dimensions in the row and column using EvEXP and EvNXP function ?
We understand that we can make the report with more 2 x 2 dimensions in the row and column if using EvDRE.
    Thank You in advance
    Kenya

    Thank you for your advice.
I understand that we should use EvDRE when creating the report with multiple dimension in the row/column because EvEXP have some erros, poor performance, etc.
    Then, we have two questions.
    1)
    >plus they had some errors in the designs.
what kind of errors they have as an example?
    2)
    >If you must build the EVEXP and EVNXP, I would suggest building the template from scratch
We built the simple template with just 2 x 2 dimension from scratch.
But this report doesn't work well when double-click the dimension or changing CV...
Would you please check the following template?
    <https://sapmats-de.sap-ag.de/download/download.cgi?id=RCZE1ME4YSORY3DCDO4NNMANZLBL1L5ZBUOB2F71YVNVS8XDJW>
It would be greatly appreciated if you could give me your advice for the template.
    Thank you again
    And my best regards,

  • How can I preserve row and column addresses on multiple cells at once in Numbers?

How can I preserve row and column addresses on multiple cells at once in Numbers 3.2.2? I do a lot of rearranging and sorting and want to reference cells in other sheets. After entering the formulas (example: '=Sheet1::Table 1::H126') I will sort the table and the formulas will not move with the sort.  I think I can fix this by going cell by cell checking the 'preserve row' and 'preserve column' boxes when editing the formula.  I want to avoid having to go one by one.  I know that checking the boxes creates a formula like this: '=Sheet1::Table 1::$H$126'  I have also tried entering this manually and filling down but it doesn't include the preservations (the $$) in the autofill.  If there is another way to remedy my sorting problem that would also be welcomed!
    THANKS!!

The title of the post is this
How can I preserve row and column addresses on multiple cells at once in Numbers?
I restated the Question as follows
Can "Preserve Row" an / or "Preserve Column" be set on multiple cells at the same time.
In both cases it is not asked if multiple cells can be set to....
    That is a given.
Step back a second...  It is like selecting multiple cells and setting the text color of the currently selected cells to red. This can be done. More than one cell at a time modified because they are currently selected.
Whats is being asked is:  if more than one cell is selected at the same time can the settings "Preserve Row" an / or "Preserve Column" be applied. No table I put up will help with that question.
    YES or NO
    If YES how?

  • Navigation on row and column total in pivot report

    Hi All,
I have created a pivot report with 2 dimension columns and one measure and defined row and column total. Now, users wants to have a navigation report on the row/column total so that once he clicks on total value, he can see the detail report. • Key figures in row and column.

    Dear all,
I have a requirement in my BEx query to have to key figures in both the row and column. This is the scenario, I have a formula defined in the row which does a total up and the user would like to see this key figure formula in the column while still maintaining all other key figures in the row. How can this be done?
It seems that once I have a key figure in either the column or row I can only use either one- not both at the same time.
Thanks in advance and points will be awarded.

    Hi,
You can use KF in either in Row or Column. It's not possible to use in both in rows and columns.

  • Report Writer Row and Column Format

    Hi
Was wondering if there is a possible solution to this :-
Understand that column format is controlled by format groups. This means that all figures in the same column will take the same format (such as scaling and decimal place).
    Scenario is ->
Colunn #1 -> column set as displaying no decimal point
    Rev                  120
    OP                      5
OP margin %     4.2 -> how to set this to 1 decimal point. Any formula syntax that I can use?
    Regards.

    Hi Vinay,
Based on my research, freezing row and column headers are different in table and matrix.
In a table, if we want to freeze column header, we should make the changes in the first Static row group in Row Groups pane with Advanced Mode as you said. If we want to freeze row header, the table should have a group ahead, then we can enable “Repeat header
rows on each page” and “Keep header visible while scrolling” options in Row Headers in Tablix Properties dialog box.
In a matrix, if we want to freeze column header, we can enable “Repeat header columns on each page” and “Keep header visible while scrolling” options in Column Headers in Tablix Properties dialog box. If we want to freeze row header, we can enable “Repeat
header rows on each page” and “Keep header visible while scrolling” options in Row Headers in Tablix Properties dialog box.
    Hope this helps.
