FOSDEM 2012, who's coming?

Hi guys!
Who's coming to Belgium on 4 and 5 february 2012? I am, 'cause I live there :-)
Is Arch Linux in the distro's list this year? Else, you'll have to be fast. I'd really like to contribute, if so. I'll help as much as possible.
Tell the world who's coming, why and from where
Ruben

  • Frankfurt 6th of February SDN Meet! Who is coming?

    Hi SDNers,
If you live or work in or close to Frankfurt Germany and would like to meet and hang out with your fellow SDNers for an unofficial evening at the Lorsbacher Tal Appelwoiwirtschaft <a href="http://www.lorsbacher-thal.de/en/index.html">Lorsbacher Tal Appelwoiwirtschaft</a>. Then swing by that pub on Monday the 6th of February starting at 7pm.
I will be there and Benny and let's see who else is interested. Benny called them and they said we don't need reservations, after all it is Monday evening. May be we can surprise them a bit.
If you coming please add to this thread and let us know if you bring friends. Really loved our unofficial events before the SDN Meets Labs.
Really looking forward to it, Mark.
    Address is: Grosse Rittergasse 49-51

    Hi Ramki,
Not sure if you are in the San Francisco Bay Area. If you are, than please join us this Wednesday the 5th of April for an SDN Meet at the San Francisco Airport Marriott: 7pm at the bar.
The first 5 non SAP SDNers will get a prize. Key SDN Team members will be there.
    See you there, Mark.
P.S. More details in a Weblog post soon.
P.P.S. I was asked about pictures from the first SDN Meet, unfortunately I only took three with my bad resolution Treo camera Finally I found the time to load them and they are in the SDN Group on flickr:
http://www.flickr.com/groups/sdn/ Check it out, bring your own camera for this event and put me to shame, not that that is tough.

  • Cannot install SharePoint 2013 with SP1 on server 2012 R2. IIS configuration error

    Hey Guys,
I'm experiencing a problem which seems to be common considering the number of posts I've found about it, but none of the provided solutions worked for me.
I'm simply trying to install SharePoint 2013 with SP1 on a Windows Server Standard 2012 R2.
I've downloaded from the MS Volume Licensing website the "SharePoint Server 2013 with SP1" ISO file :  SW_DVD5_SharePoint_Server_2013w_SP1_64Bit_English_MLF_X19-36118. So
this is the slipstreamed version which is supposed to bring compatibility with 2012 R2.
As I do not have direct access to the Internet I need to perform an offline installation. I also downloaded all prerequisities. When I run prerequisiteinstaller.exe with the necessary arguments, I get the following :
    (Full log file is below)
    I've tried the following :
    - Restarted the server multiple times
    - Manually removing/adding IIS role + restart
    - Running the prerequisiteinstaller.exe from the DVD or from an extracted version
    - Manually installing the prerequisities
    - Installed .Net 3.5 as recommended here (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/0b597d35-b02d-4236-894d-38efc0c7c6f6/sharepoint-2013-with-sp1-install-on-windows-server-2012-r2?forum=sharepointgeneral)
None of the worked. So I'm stuck and I must completed the installation of this before the end of the week for an important project !
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

  • MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) - Boot Camp/Win 7 - Num Lock Problem

    Hey,
I have a client who has a MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) who is experiencing a problem when booted into Windows 7 via Boot Camp in that he cannot type certain character like # (hash character by keystroke alt + 3) without Windows 7 error bleeping at him. He needs the # character as part of his password for logging into webmail.
The Boot Camp setup has the latest Boot Camp drivers installed (this was a fresh Boot Camp setup/install today) and every other part of the hardware works I suspect that this problem is not a key mapping problem but more something to do with Windows registering Num Lock as being active.
If the problem is that Num Lock is enabled then what is the keystroke to disable Num Lock? I thought it was fn + 6 but did this change since the Unibody MacBooks?
I understand that there are ways of resurrecting number pad fuctionality as decribed in the MacWorld article (see link below) but this is a Mac OS X System Preference and as such would not operate when booted into Windows via Boot Camp.

  • Who should do  rgb-CMYK conversion - designers or printers?

I have been having a very interesting discussion on a previous thread in response to problems with the colour conversion from rgb to CMYK using InDesign and the resulting unsatisfactory colours in the final magazine delivered by my printers.
This has raised a number of issues and led me to further research. I would like to air these for a wider debate hence this post.
Perceptive readers will note from my spelling of colour, that I am English and indeed I work out of the UK. I am a historian, writer, photographer and editor. These days it is as a full time freelance but for a long time I was part time when I helped my partner publish a specialist sports magazine.
We started it a long time ago, in the days when you sent a typesetter galleys of type and photos and agreed on a layout. Our typesetters migrated to Pagemaker and we went with them. They and we were PC based and we still are, which is a bit of an anomaly in the design world.
Creating the text in Word was easy enough but the images remained a problem before digital cameras. We had a scanner but it was a flat bed scanner and created rgb images. The printers needed they said CMYK images then only available using cylindrical professional quality scanners. So there was a period when we paid the printers to scan the images for us, from the original photos, paying per print.
One of our small amateur publishing team was a well known professional photographer, so we started out with some high quality images but even so the scanned results, as they appeared in print, were patchy. I particularly remember one feature, covering a major international event where we had been supplied with high quality transparencies by a top class sports photographer and we duly passed on to the printers to scan. The results were clearly out of focus and the photographer was enraged and said he would not work for us again.
Of course we got proofs but they were low resolution in general and when we queried the quality of any image, we were invariably told that the proof did not reflect the final quality image as it would be printed. Trouble was it often did.
We ourselves continued to strip out costs from the magazine and eventually one of our team went on a series of Pagemaker courses and got some hands on experience working next to our former typesetter who was coming up for retirement. We took over the design and found a sympathetic new printer, down the road, also familiar with Pagemaker where we could pop over to look at the proofs, and get a second scan if the first was not OK. All went happily along for quite a few years. The sports magazine got sold and then I got a contract to edit a magazine dealing with the historic environment. By now digital photography had come along but we simply supplied hard copy prints (we use a lot of historical images) or digital images to the printers, with the Pagemaker files and they did the conversion. This routine stayed in place for a few more years and then the owner of the printers sold up and retired.
We found a new printers', a short run magazine specialist who agreed to accept our Pagemaker files (by now 6.5) although they were primarily Quark and Apple based. They did have a handful of PC clients and kept one PC for proofing their work. We continued to send the new printers Pagemaker files for printing and included the source images in case they needed to be redone. It quickly became apparent that the new printers worked down to a price rather than up to a quality and a fast turn around was the main aim. Conversations with their chief designer were perfunctory but because we had a lot of Pagemaker expertise we did not need a lot of support. We were under pressure to move to InDesign and it was probably time anyway.
Around two years ago matters can to a head with a font problem. This turned out to be a known issue with Pagemaker but resolving it caused problems with the printers, who said we had to upgrade to InDesign and it would go away. We were also assured that if we did so, and supplied them with a .pdf from InDesign, we could get a guaranteed result. We were told not to send them any more source images for comparison but to provide CMYK images. How we converted them was up to us.
Our designer went on several InDesign courses but they dealt with the design process and differences from Pagemaker.  Getting to a .pdf was the target, not balancing colour thereafter. That was considered the role of the printer and his workflow press press processes.
When we needed to export our first .pdf from InDesign, the chief designer called up our designer and talked him through it. The importance of compatible profiles and presets was never raised. We have never been given any written information by the printers on .pdf presets or profiles we might need to set up at our end. As explained in my earlier thread, we are now required to submit all our images already converted to CMYK and this has caused and continues to cause, problems with the colour balance, in general the final result has too much magenta in it. Matters came to a head with the latest issue.
We are in talks with the printers to resolve this but it seems the chief designer has now left and not been replaced. We have asked if they can do the colour conversion to CMYK for us and the answer has been a definitive "No". Approaches to other printers has met witha standard salesman's response that all we need to provide is a .pdf from InDesign and they will do the rest. All require CMYK images.
It seems to me in all this saga, that the printing community has been busy de-skilling and downsizing and putting responsibilities back onto the end user wwho may not be experienced enough in the area of prepress and colour, to understand the issues involved.
So the question then arises, why can't the printers do the rgb to CMYK conversion anymore? Our printers maintain they are not able to accept any work which requires them to do this. But reading around the subject it seems there are printers who are moving to handling the rgb conversions for their customers "late  binding rgb workflow" I think it is called. This is a link to a very interesting article about it in Print Media Management (I assume I can put links here). http://www.printmediamag.co.uk/technical-articles/205.aspx
What does anyone else think about this as a concept?

Just after the turn of the century I was working for a large-format output service. ID had just been released, but nobody used it, and Quark 4 was state of the art. Color management was a "new" concept to everyone I knew.
One of our vendors sold us paper with the promise that they could provide profiles for every stock to match our HP plotter (not that I think we would have necessarily, at that point, understood how to use them). They never managed to do that, and we never managed to match color from the same file on glossy and matte papers. Nor were we able to reliably match color that we saw on screen or in a customer's inkjet or laser proof without making test strips and using five or six times the paper in trial and error adjustments as it took to make a single poster the customer ordered. It was ridiculous, and expensive, and it convinced me that I needed to learn at least the basics of color management. Shortly after I left that job and went freelance.
I switched to InDesign partly because it actually handled color management better than Quark in those days (and may still -- I've never looked back and stopped buying upgrades at 6.5), and I read as much as I could (Real World Color Management from Peachpit Press is an EXCELLENT and easy to understand primer). I also found a local printer for offset where the prepress manager understands CM and profiling, and was willing to talk (we're now good friends), and I also found another large format service where the staff was CM literate. I use a colorimeter to calibrate and profile my monitor, I use the output profiles they recommend and the export settings they ask for, and what I see in print from these vendors "matches my screen as close as dammit," to use the OP's words.
The owner of the offset printery said something I found flattering, but a little shocking, the last time I went for a press check -- I supply the best color in files that need the least amount of adjustment on press of anyone they print for. My attitude is if the print is off at make-ready, it means my numbers are off, and that was my fault. I usually complain the reds aren't bright enough, then let the pressman convince me that if I tweak the reds too much I'll lose the blues and to have confidence that things will fall into place when the ink dries because his measure ink density numbers are where they should be. He's always right, by the way.
Is this shop unusual? Maybe a little for my neck of the woods, but there are plenty of them out there with the same dedication to keeping up with technology at the pre-press end, and the knowledge and experience with putting ink on paper and a commitment to quality and service, so you should be able to find someone almost anywhere. And size is not necessarily an indicator -- this printer is a mom-and-pop shop with two presses, a folder, and a half-dozen employees. Dad has been in the print business for about 40 years and knows only what's rubbed off about color management, but he knows about presses and ink and paper and what will work. The oldest son is the prepress tech, and he's a complete geek, and either one of them will talk to anyone, and wish more of their clients would take the time to ask questions about the printing process and file preparation, and how they can improve the quality of both what comes in and what goes back out.

  • How to get the vm ip address in scvmm 2012

    Hi,
I want to get the vm ip address in scvmm 2012, who can help me?

I have seen lots of people ask this because they can see IP addresses in other Virtualization Consoles, Unfortunately SCVMM doesn't show IP address of the VMs on the console but you can use below script to populate Custom1 property of VMs with IP address
and make Custom1 Column visible (manually) in SCVMM Console... HTH
    param ( $VMMServer = 'localhost')
    $CustomProp = Get-SCCustomProperty -Name Custom1
    $VMs = get-SCVirtualMachine -VMMServer $VMMServer
    foreach ($VM in $VMs)
     $NetAdp = get-SCVirtualNetworkAdapter -VM $VM.name
     if ($NetAdp.IPv4Addresses)
     [String[]]$str = $NetAdp.IPv4Addresses
     Set-SCCustomPropertyValue -CustomProperty $CustomProp -InputObject $VM -Value "$str"

  • Kalu: Keeping Arch Linux Up-to-date

    Hi all,
Yes, there are already a few “update notifier” out there, but I couldn’t find one that would fit my needs (granted I didn’t search too hard, I was also interested in making my own as a fun exercice…) so I decided to make a new one.
kalu (which could stand for “Keeping Arch Linux Up-to-date”) is a small application that will add an icon to your systray and sit there, regularly checking if there’s anything new for you to upgrade. As soon as it finds something, it’ll show a notification to let you know about it. (In other words, revolutionary. )
    What kalu can check for:
    - updated packages (A word about this: kalu does not sync your "actual" databases, to avoid potential problems, but instead uses temporary copies of the dbs.)
    - updated watched packages (i.e. packages not installed, but for which you still wanna know when there's an update)
    - updated AUR packages
    - updated watched AUR packages (same as watched ones, but for AUR packages. Who would've guessed?)
    - news (from archlinux.org)
(on its tooltip, kalu can also report how many (if any) dbs can be synced)
When system/AUR upgrades are available, notifications can include a button to start the system/AUR upgrades. You can specify the command line to be executed when the button is clicked.
And for the fun of it, it comes with an integrated "system updater," to do what `pacman -Syu` does but in a GTK GUI. Because why not? Also, I wanted one. :-)
The system updater can also execute one (or more) command lines of your choice after a successfull upgrade, and you can use a variable ($PACKAGES) to be replaced by the list of upgraded packages. (Note that the list actually is of all packages involved in the sysupgrade, i.e. also those removed or added, e.g. when a package is replaced by another one.)
If you don't like it/the idea of a graphical system updater, and not using it isn't enough, you can use configure option --disable-updater and turn kalu into a notifier only.
From v1.1.0 onwards, two command line options - --manual-checks (-m) and --auto-checks (-a) - allow to run manual/auto checks from command line. No GUI will be used at all, everything gets printed on stderr/stdout (using the same templates as for notifications).
This can be done without the need for a DISPLAY/running X server (i.e. no GTK init performed), thus works from a tty or through SSH. This can also be useful to use kalu from scripts.
Alongside those options is a configure option (--disable-gui) to make kalu a small CLI-only binary (i.e. no dependency to GTK nor libnotify), which could be useful on GUIless box (e.g. servers), where kalu can then still be used to check for upgrades, watched packages, etc
With v1.2.0 it is now possible to have kalu re-show the last notifications. So if you missed them or forgot what it was about, one click will re-show all notifications instantly without the need to ran the checks again. And, somewhat similarly to what happens after a system upgrade using kalu's updater, you can now use variable $PACKAGES on the command line to perform AUR updates. Can be useful to start some helper/script to handle the update of those packages automatically for you.
Also note that kalu's source code (and issue tracker) has been moved to a git repo (was mercurial before), and is now hosted on github.
Thanks to Painless Rob for his great icons.

  • Another pointless whinge?

Right, new here so not really sure what I'm trying to achieve; I suspect that, like many here, I've just become so desparate that I'm hoping writing it down may be cathartic.
My issue began in March 2012 when I asked BT to install a phone line to my house. In brief:
-An appointment was made for a week later, I took the day off but the engineer didnt turn up
-Second appt set 2 weeks after that, engineer took 30 secs to look at the line then disappeared without explanation
-Third appt, 3 week after that, engineer didnt turn up (I've been offered £10 compensation for each missed appt which I'm thrilled about having used up 10% of my annual leave so far....)
So here we are almost in December and nothing has happened in between. Yes, lots and lots of phonecalls to India but absolutely no action. On one occasion the 'customer service' operator did explain that it was a problem with a company called 'Weighleads' who BT subcontract the line installation to; I asked whether I could have their telephone number to see if I could chase them but became suspicious when the operator told me that although they are a UK based company they do not have an address, telephone number or email address. I subsequently found out that the root of the issue may be in granting 'wayleave' to cross a nearby farmer's land and that the operator was confused as to the nature of the relationship between BT and Openreach and thought that 'Weighleads' was the installer! God help me. Incidentally, the farmer is a close friend who maintains that he has never in 9 months being asked for permission to cross his fields. BT cannot tell me whether or not he has ever been contacted.
So it rumbles on, a family of 2 young children, a baby and mum and dad (who used to work from home) having had their lives turned upside down by the sheer incompetence combined with arrogance that could only be borne from an organisation operating safely from within their virtual monopoly. We are three miles from the nearest village and have no landline or mobile reception which naturally worries me, especially when I am overseas. BT have suggested we can use the 'hotspot' in the nearest McDonalds (26 miles away) to work from; I'm not sure my waistline would stand 40 hrs a week based from McDonalds!
My parents tell me this level of service was endemic in the '70's but that it was tempered with a human element which did result in common sense prevailing. I fear BT has captured the worst of both worlds and for the first time in my life, I feel like the helpless victim.
I suppose the icing on the cake was the Ombudsman finding that BT were not liable for failing in their universal service obligation to provide a landline as they had sub-contracted the installation to Openreach whose regulation are not within their remit. Toothless springs to mind!
I was obviously aware of BT's reputation for customer service and have purposefully placed my company's business with an alternative provider as we depend on the provision; however, I could only guess at how bad it could get for a domestic consumer who has no alternative. As consumers we should not allow this to happen and should put pressure on government to act; either to empower the Ombdusman to enable them to hold BT fully to account or to enable other providers to economically enter the market so that consumers can make an informed choice as to what sort of provider they wish to engage with. I'm doing this through my MP and would encourage others who find themselves in the same situation to do the same.

Yep, thought I would join this thread in the hope that like your self writing something down would prove helpful (even if its just to myself).
    Try to keep this short.
Firstly the buyer of our house gave BT a moving date of begining of of Nov. I phoned to say this was not going to happen and got that cut off cancelled.
Then got a letter saying he would be taking over the line middle of November. I phoned and got that one cancelled.
Then got a letter saying he woould take over line from 21st November. I phoned and cancelled that too.
I get home from work on the 21st to find infinty not working. I phone BT and have a long complicated conversation with a gentlemen that tells me I have never had infinty!!! After about ten minutes of arguing I realise he thinks I am the new home owner and when I ask him to confirm the number I am calling from, he does not read out my home number, instead he reads out the number of the new home owner.  So we realise what has happened and he says it will be restored over night.
    I stupidly believed him.
The next evening, I phone BT again and have to explain the whole situation again. Despite it being really obvious to me what has happened (they have already transferred the line and stopped infinty) the rude person on the other end of the phone tells me, I have been cut off for not paying my bill, as as such will have to pay to get reconnected. Not happy at this point and ask to speak to a supervisior. Eventually he comes on the phone and I expalin again. He says he is sorry but as I have already be disconnected he will have to pass me over to "sales/new customers" to get the phone line restored. Ah ha I think I get through to someone in England and very helpfully told how sorry BT are. My phone will be sorted in a couple of days, but even though I already have the hardware for infinty installed that will need an enginner to visit. This should be less than 7 days but beacuse they are busy the afternoon of 4th December is the earliest they can do (nearly two weeks away).
So we get to last weekend Saturday afternoon and the home phone rings, its BT asking to speak to the proposed new owner, I say he has not moved in and I am the old unhappy owner who still has the new owners phone number. She listens to the whole story and says yes she can see it on her computer that my order it there for infinty and changing back the phone. I ask her to send through confirmation, and she does indeed send an email a few minutes later.
However the email says my phone will be connected on the 7th December, and with a new number not my old number and the engineer will not visit for infinty till 17th!!
Guess who had to phone BT again this morning to try and find out what was going on. Yep me. Half hour and all I found out is an engineer visited the house today and done something, someone may or may not turn up tomorrow afternoon and do something, my phone line should be restored by the 7th but he couldn't tell me to which number. Finally my infinty will definately not be activated till the 17th, so he doesn't know what the engineer who is coming (or probably not) tomorrow is going to do. At the end of the call he then has the cheek to ask if he can help me with anything else.
So tomorrow I'm going to have an expensive afternoon at work waiting for no one to turn up.
Rant over, don't really feel any better for it.

  • Nokia 701 Screen

I have been looking at the specifications on gsm arena for the 701 which is due to be released Q3.
I notice that the phone will not be coming with gorilla glass display as does the 700.
Would there be a reason that Nokia will not be including gorilla glass display for the 701 and what are Nokia planning as an alternative  to make the screen more resistive to knocks and scratches ?
    Thank you for any information.
    Solved!

     Well thats Some Post :
I am in the UK and wanted the 701 because of its bright screen as it is not available in the UK I bought it  Europe in May 2012

  • FED UP!!!!!!! Phone Service

We've had comcast HD Triple Play about a month or so now, and if this issue is not investigated or an answer found I am disconnecting my phone service and going elsewhere, regardless of expense...we are getting at least 10-15 calls a DAY from CA, particulary NAPA Valley CA, latest was last night 5/19/15 at 12:45 a.m while I was sleeping and having to get up at 6:30 a.m for work, this is very disturbing, I call these numbers back to find out why we're being called, I've actually spoken to some of these people and they confirmed it was Napa Valley CA and that they DID not call me, yet their number is showing up on my caller ID, yet my own son who is in my area code cannot get through!!! What the heck is going on???? Please do not tell me to change my land line number, i've had this number over 20 yrs so not changing it is an option, we have a family member who is coming to their end of their life, my husbands father and getting calls at 1.am is a bit upsetting in every way possible.  So I wil do what I must to stop this....we're getting church calls, everything from Napa Valley, check my records and investigate to be sure the installation was done properly....I am going to take my phone service back to WOW very soon if no answer is found.   I had no such issue with them at all!!! It all started once my # was switched to Comcast. Thank you
    Jerry & Wendy Alley

These are scammers (not legitimate telemarketers), mostly from overseas, who are spoofing numbers to cover their tracks and steal your identity or money. There have been several stories about this online and tv, where they will: pose as an IRS agent or utility company and demand that you pay them via a green dot card or pre-paid credit card, and if you refuse, they threaten to call the police and have one of their co-workers call you back pretending to be the police;posing as a computer tech and saying your computer is pinging them, and they need access to your computer so they can fix this (where they are actually feeding a virus into it to steal your information;pretending to be a relative who needs money to get out of jail or foreign country; andposing as a person who can lower your APR or telling you that you won some contest/lottery but you have to send money to get the prize or check. The thing is not to fall for these tricks. If you answer the phone and it says push a button to be removed from list, DO NOT DO THIS! it just tells them that the number is live and they will never stop calling you. The newest thing is that these evil individuals spoof the number that they are calling so that it appears you are calling yourself! They hope you will be curious and pick it up:http://www.bbb.org/council/news-events/bbb-scam-alerts/2014/06/scam-alert-how-scammers-use-caller-id-spoofing-to-pose-as-you/ You can either: use NOMOROBO as someone suggest, but this will not block legitimate private citizens' landlines that are being spoofed by these demons;buy one of those TBlockers from Amazon where you can program up to 1200 numbers to block (even just the area code and first three digits, since each scammer tend to change the last four digits only). I have a 2012 version of TBlocker and it works great, but scammers still know that line is active because the blocker picks up the line and hangs up before your phone actually rings if the number is in your blocked list. But at least your phone remains silent, especially at night.on your answering machine, record the SIT tone (disconnect phone line tone) as the first part of your outgoing message. This is suppose to tell the auto-dialer that the number is no longer active and remove it from their computer system. I just recently implemented this because someone spoofed my own number when they called me, so I changed my outgoing message starting with the SIT tone, and then a message that informs people who are calling my number because it showed up on their caller id that it was probably not me because some scammer has spoofed my number. I really don't want to come home to a bunch of angry messages on my machine, when I am just as much a victim as they are! Don't know if it will work, but so far scam-free today (usually get at least two a day). FYI, it is not exclusive to landlines - now I am getting a few on my cell phone too (and I only give that number out to people I know). Thankfully there are apps to take care of that too.

  • C#: Building a SOFTWARE SOLUTION from scratch to finish

Hello good people of MSDN. I have a VERY SIMPLE REQUEST... (Here goes)
I'm trying to build an Application (from scratch, custom specs) that allows the user to manage, organize and keep track of books that are available in a library. This system is to be made use of in environments such as personal library, public library, any
situation that requires/involves the constant movement of BOOKS.
Now, I have presented a solution to the client which works OKAY but there has been a SUDDEN CHANGE of heart, now the client wants the solution to be implemented quite differently. The solution that I BUILT is basically an ASP.NET C# Application that runs LOCALLY
so it opens up in the browser (IIS installed and all that) for the user to make use of the Application. Now when I want to have the entire Application to FUNCTION on another system I simply copy the Database, the Application folder (that has all the files
in it) place it in the IIS Directory... ... (So as not to waste your PRECIOUS TIME). To access the Application we simply open up the BROWSER enter localhost/the Application's URL...
The client, first of all does NOT want the BROWSER in the mix of things (ANYMORE !!!); secondly, does not want to have to go through all of this process of COPYING FILES INTO LOCATIONS, IIS etc etc in order to get the solution to WORK/OPERATE on another/several
other computers. The client wants to be able to have an EXECUTABLE INSTALLATION file that when clicked installs a SOFTWARE APPLICATION that opens up in its own WINDOW ENVIRONMENT without the help/assistance of the BROWSER !
This is my PREDICAMENT there's NO TIME... I need to AT LEAST present a working prototype in less than 24hrs!
    So my questions are:
1.) Is there anyway for me to convert my ASP.NET C# Web Application into an installable client software without losing any of the components that make it work?
2.) If I have to build the ENTIRE Application into a WinForms PROJECT (I'm using VS 2010) can I STILL MAKE USE of the DATABASE I used for the ASP.NET C# Application?
3.) I don't want to have to DUMP my SQL SERVER DATABASE (as it is) to start creating a DB using something else like MS Access. Do I have a choice?
I have included with this post a Notepad doc that details the sketch of what I am HOPING to ACHIEVE. I would Appreciate it if anyone can (KINDLY) take it up and create according to the SPECIFICATIONS included in the doc. I have tried to be very DETAILED and
DESCRIPTIVE in the doc to make it easy for  the DEVELOPER to FOLLOW THROUGH. Can it be done?
(If ANYONE can take it up and provide the solution it would be a good thing because it would ALWAYS be available to other DEVELOPERS who can read through the CODE and become better C# PROGRAMMERS and better at using Visual Studio. As this is a VERY REAL
LIFE SCENARIO coders can LEARN from the SITUATION).
At the end of the whole CODING PROCESS I intend to BUILD the Source to become a SINGLE EXECUTABLE FILE that will INSTALL the Application on the clients system. If anyone can PROFFER (and MAYBE RENDER) a SOLUTION that's ACCURATE, SPEEDY, RELIABLE to me, I would
    be grateful!
The Software is to be used in a school. Students are only going to REQUEST for books, RETURN the books that they collected. They are NOT BUYING books!
    Working/Functional Prototype
(The PROTOTYPE I hope to present REALLY SOON should be CAPABLE of the FOLLOWING)
    1. Navigate/Move through the different Forms/GUI Screens when the appropriate buttons are clicked
    2. Interact with the DB (to some extent) and carry out (for now)TRANSACTIONS like adding books, viewing list of books, delete book, Register Student (other DB operations can be included much later)
    3. When the Application is LAUNCHED a Splash Screen is displayed introducing the Application (while the Application is loading), then when it's done Loading, the Application opens to present the Start Screen
    4. An EXECUTABLE INSTALLATION FILE that can be used to conveniently INSTALL the Application on multiple systems... Just in-case it is to be installed on a computer system that's not Windows OS, I'd like for it to carter to dependencies appropriately.
PLEASE ANYONE that chooses to ASSIST (based on the SPECIFICATIONS) should KINDLY include the DETAILS of how the result was ACHIEVED so at least I can read through and understand the Application and conveniently make suitable/any necessary modifications (should
the CLIENT require that I do so). eg Step by step instructions on how to get the whole SOURCE CODE into INSTALLATION FILE, Setting up the Splash Screen, how the DB is made to connect to the front end GUI (eg ODBC, OLE DB that type of stuff)... etc etc
I'm trying to keep the prototype VERY SIMPLE so I can ACHIEVE something TANGIBLE in this short space of time then LATER any SOPHISTICATION can be included.
PS: I have done MY VERY BEST to plan out the Application Logic. So it should be easy to just READ over the Notepad docs I'm including here... As a pointer (should YOU decide to ASSIST) it would be FASTER to START with the WinForms, then MOVE to CREATING
    the DB, afterwards LINK THEM...
    Thank YOU ALL.

    Start/Welcome Screen
When the Software Application is launched and the Software is done loading this is the FIRST screen that the user sees. This Screen presents the users with options to carry out certain actions. Also it presents some brief/summary information to the user in
    a presentable manner.
Options include: Administration, View list of books, Relase Notes
Brief/Summary of information include: Total no of books in store, Total no of new books added
    List of books Screen
When the user clicks on this action link from any where in the Software Application this page comes up. It displays a complete list of the books that are available in the store and also relevant info about the books. It reads DIRECTLY from the Books table inside
the Database and presents the info in a tabular format. It also provides the user with certain options to carry out some actions.
Options include: Request book (button beside every book item)
    Administration Screen
The Administration Screen is segmented into several Areas that allow the operator to carry out individual/independent tasks. On this Screen the operator of the system has options to carry out many vital tasks as regards the Application. Rather than having to
present many different Screens, all the control/Administrative tasks of this Aplication are included here on this ONE Screen.
Options/Segments include: Add book(s), Delete book(s), View list of books, View books requests, View books returned, View all Students, Request for book(s), Register Student, Return books
(All of these Options can be done/carried out on this one screen without having to bring many different screens to do the different tasks)
    >>Add book(s) Area
This area FEEDS info DIRECTLY INTO the Books DB. To accept Data input into the Application this has following text boxes: Book Title, Author, Edition, ISBN, Category Name
    >>Delete book(s) Area
Presents the options for deleting a book. It also relates DIRECTLY with the Books table in the DB. It presents the list of books as they are available in the Books DB and places a DELETE action button for EVERY book so that when this button is clicked it removes
the book from the Books DB.
    >>View list of books
This will simply bring up the list of books Screen since already we have a screen for this.
    >>View books requests
This reads DIRECTLY from the UsersRequest table and just presents the info to the user in a tabular form.
    >>View books returned
This reads DIRECTLY from the BooksReturned table and just presents the info to the user in a tabular form.
    >>View all Students
Lists out all the students that are registered in the Application System. It READS DIRECTLY from the Students table. This area is used by the Admin/Operator of the Application to view a List of all the Students that have had transactions with the Application.
    >>Request for book(s) Area
This area relates DIRECTLY with the UsersRequest table in the DB. It FEEDS in Data into the UsersRequest table. This area allows the admin to collect info of the student that's requesting for the book. It provides texboxes such as: First Name, Middle Name,
    Surname, RegNo, BookTitle
    >>Register Student Area
This area relates DIRECTLY with the Students table in the DB. It FEEDS in Data into the Students table. This are allows the admin to input info of students that are new to the system.
In other for the Admin to keep track of NEW students who are coming in to request for books this area is very important. It allows the Admin to register a new student so that the student can now request for books.
There are text input fields on this Screen that allow the Admin to collect certain infomation about the student and feed it into the Students table of the DB. Textboxes inculde: First Name, Middle Name, Last Name, RegNo
    >>Return books Area
This area relates DIRECTLY with the BooksReturned table. It FEEDS Data into the BooksReturned table. Textboxes include: Book Title, Author, ISBN, First Name of student, Last Name of student
    Release Notes Screen
This Screen has three tabs that contain their own individual MESSAGES. The tabs are: Version, Known Issues
