If you want to sync photos to the iPad then you need to sync all the photos that you want on the iPad together in one go, as only the most recent photo sync remains on the iPad - not including them in a subsequent sync is how you delete them from the iPad (as they can't be deleted directly on the iPad). Photo syncing doesn't affect non-synced photos i.e. those taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer, particularly before any restore, update, etc.

In most countries, music and apps can be downloaded for free in the iTunes/App stores if you log into the new iPad using the Apple ID with which you used to purchase them. The same goes for most films. You can also sync the old iPad with a computer and then sync the new one with the same computer, and restore it from the backup you made of the old iPad.
If you have notes and emails on the old iPad, go into 'System Preferences' and make sure they are saved into the iCloud. You can then retrieve them from the cloud by logging in to the same email/iTunes accounts on the new iPad.

Create a new user in windows to keep your iTunes library separate and log in. Make sure your new computer is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.

I was trying to delete some podcasts from my ipod, and was following the directions on the help menu which told me to go to preferences and choose manual update, then delete. I tried it, and it didn't work. When I decided to go back to auto update, I received a message that everything on my ipod would be deleted and the update would be just what is on the itunes on that machine. I have more than one computer, and have itunes on each one. There are different songs on each computer. If I go to manually update on this computer, it will erase the songs I've put on from other computers. All this and I still have the unwanted podcasts. Can anyone help me to go back to auto-update without losing songs? If worse comes to worst I guess I'll have to update, lose the songs, and then re-update at my other computers. thanks.

Afraid that's not possible. If you go to auto-update, the iPod gets cleared and replaced with the current contents of the iTunes library.

Switching from PC to MAC formatting issue without losing Apps

Hi! I will be receiving my new iPhone 4 this week and will need to sync it to a windows computer. However in about 4 weeks I'll be getting my IMAC back and want to move everything over to there. How can this be accomplished without losing my Apps or any 3rd party Apps I may have? I do not want to re-buy them. I'm not all that familiar with this and would appreciate it if there are simple instructions to follow.

Assuming your library is consolidated, that is all the media is inside the *Tunes Media* (formerly iTunes Music) folder, which in turn is inside the main iTunes folder which has the library files, then it should be easy. Simply hook the Mac & PC together over a network, open up a share, copy the entire iTunes folder from the PC to your user's Music folder on the Mac, rename *iTunes Library.itl* as *iTunes Library.itl* and delete *iTunes Library Genius.itdb*. iTunes will treat this as the same library you iPhone previously synced with and everything should work properly, with the exception of Photos where you will need to choose a new folder to sync with (if you want) and PIM data. I sync with Exchange so I'm not sure of the details if you sync local address books, calendars etc.
